Product Description
A gorgeous lost treasure from 1973 reissued courtesy of Heavenly's Jeff Barrett, Chris Smither's Honeysuckle Dog is a great singer/songwriter album in the musical tradition of Tim Hardin, Gene Clark, Townes Van Zandt and Tim Buckley. Rich in country soul and featuring great players like Mike Mainieri (vibes), Ralph McDonald (percussion), Patti Austin (vocals) and the guitar genius of Lowell George, Honeysuckle Dog is an absolute listening treat dominated by Smither's delicate, intricate guitar work. Forever Heavenly. 2005.

On his first totally controlled album for his own label, Toby Keith adds another title to his résumé: producer. Throughout, the former Oklahoma wildcatter, who's taken heat for his blustery patriotism and outspoken remarks, seems to be seeking new respect, shifting the focus off of politics and grandstanding and back to his talents as a musician. While his last album, White Trash with Money, found him flirting with R&B and adding horns for a bit more bump, his latest effort finds him nearly in a singer-songwriter mood, taking more time to craft the sound of the tracks and laying down his own harmonies. He's still relying on gimmicky wordplay and cartoon puffery for his full-tilt radio numbers ("High Maintenance Woman," "Big Dog Daddy"), but he also showcases the sensitive, ballad-heavy side of his personality that hasn't been as apparent since the '90s ("Does That Blue Moon Ever Shine on You," "We Were in Love"). He achieves this with some fine cowriting--the winsome "I Know She Hung the Moon" and "Walk It Off," and the lusty "Burnin' Moonlight." He also finds two excellent covers, Fred Eaglesmith's "White Rose" (which combines nostalgia for full-service gas stations with that of a teen's coming of age) and the thoughtful Craig Wiseman/Chris Wallin ballad "Love Me If You Can." The latter, a quiet social commentary, revisits Keith's familiar theme of holding one's ground, but with a far more compassionate approach than he's tried before. Consider it a meditation from a brash king of the hill who hasn't forgotten how to be humble. --Alanna Nash

Big Dog Daddy.......2007-07-06
I was skeptical about purchasing yet another Toby Keith CD but am glad I made the purchase. Once again, Toby comes through with his distinct voice and ear catching tunes. Toby is by far one of the best song writers yet in country music. I went to see a concert at the Tweeter Center in NJ and let me tell you, I am still impressed with the show he performed. The song "High Maintenance Woman" is cute and funny. The cd was a very good buy.
quality maintained.......2007-07-05
I like toby because he has a fine distinctive voice and uses it well on differing song moods and his backing is well thought out. Especially liked the Jack Daniels track as we visited the distillery in april and our guide called Dusty was memorable ..............keep going toby and always try new things.
This Album will Cure Your Insomnia.......2007-07-03
This is the worst kind of trash I have ever heard. The chord progressions are not unique, and it is not even true to the spirit of punk rock. The guy can't even sing. In fact, I heard he lip syncs at his concerts. After I heard this album, I stomped on it and threw it in my garbage. Maybe you should buy it to do that yourself.
Another album with a dumb title.......2007-06-28
Another album with a dumb title after 'White Trash With Money': 'Big Dog Daddy'. Sounds 'very Country', doesn't it? It sounds more like a book for toddlers than a Country album. How can this guy be taken seriously?
I don't think he knows exactly what his fans want. His songs about bars, drinking, booze and women may appeal to people like him but they are not to the taste of everybody. If he thinks it is what all his fans want he is wrong. He doesn't know his audience. Some of his fans are not really interested in songs about Jack Daniels whiskey, a couple having sex in a pickup truck, a woman in a mini skirt ( what's next? A song about a woman in a bikini?) or his pro-war politics ( I don't get how this warmonger claims he 'prays for peace on earth every night' ). Same garbage. No originality. It seems that it is all he has to offer. Very disappointing. It is not hard to figure out why he has lost a lot of fans.
On the brink of unlistenable..........2007-06-27
I approached "Big Dog Daddy" with an open mind but I have to say that it rivals K-Fed's "Playing With Fire" as the most unlistenable album of all time (and appeals to the same dumbed-down audience). It is one of the most over-produced, insincere, steaming piles of garbage I have heard in a long time. The guy just has nothing to say. You can't let your "boots do the talking" through the speakers. I guess he should have stuck to football.

Still as good as when they were young.......2007-07-07
I got to see them June 15th 2007 at the Saratoga Winery. They were a blast!!! You thought it was yesterday. They still got it, they still sound as good. They took "Momma Told Me Not To Come" and turned it into a Rap for fun, and the way they did it, you would have thought it had alwasy been sung that way.
I found myself remembering the words to most of the songs, that I thought I had forgotten. You don't forget, the words are just tucked away. They had a couple of new band members but the rest were the good ol' guys we remember. If you don't get to see them, this CD will be the next best thing. You will really enjoy listening to the songs on this CD.
After buying this, go check out "ToTo". They were the opening Band for Three Dog Night!!!

Though fans shouldn't mistake this various-artists soundtrack for the next Toby Keith album, the music for Keith's star-turn film (also featuring Kelly Preston, Burt Reynolds, and Willie Nelson) builds from reflective balladry to unbridled, triumphant rock. It may be hard to separate the thematic sequencing from the movie it accompanies, but the soundtrack itself tells a story. It begins with Keith's melancholy, violin-drenched duet with Lindsey Haun on the title track; progresses through the spiritual uplift of a revival of "Uncloudy Day" that finds Willie Nelson and BeBe Winans joining Keith, as well as Sonya Isaacs's testament to faith on "The Battlefield" (with harmonies by Vince Gill); and culminates in the rambunctious "Big Bull Rider," the bluesy boogie of "Zig Zag Stop," and the full-throttle rock 'n' roll of the closing "Jacky Don Tucker (Play by the Rules, Miss All the Fun)." Matraca Berg, Fred Eaglesmith, and Keith's running buddy Scotty Emerick are among the others contributing tracks. While Keith sings on only 7 of the 13 cuts, there's a unifying vision throughout. --Don McLeese

Awesome Soundtrack.......2007-06-15
Toby Keith hit the jackpot! Not only is the movie one of my favorites, the soundtrack is also a favorite. You will cry a few tears in the movie, and the soundtrack will also produce those tears as you live the story all over again. I highly recommend this one.
Broken Bridges Soundtrack.......2007-05-14
I greatly enjoyed the movie and knew I would enjoy this soundtrack. I think any Toby Keith fan would. The songs are full of country charm. The movie did not get much hype, but I had seen a video clip of one song from the movie and rented it after seeing it on the display rack at Blockbuster. I loaned the movie to a friend, and we both had to go out and buy the soundtrack!
Love this soundtrack.......2007-05-09
Love the music but not really a country music fan. I heard this once and ordered it the same day.
Broken Bridges.......2007-05-07
Loved the movie, and hope to see more of the same quality soon. Had a great cast, and excellent music. Was surprised to learn this was Toby's first movie- and hope he plans to continue making movies.
Loved the movie--soundtrack is even better.......2007-04-15
This is one of the best soundtracks I have ever heard. I don't buy CD's very often, but this is one I simply could not pass up. Toby Keith has created something truly great here.

This 1991 Seattle supergroup brought together Chris Cornell and Matt Cameron of Soundgarden with the surviving members of Mother Love Bone (Jeff Ament, Stone Gossard) and Eddie Vedder, later of Pearl Jam. The experiment worked. Cornell shines, seeming more comfortable here on this tribute to his former roommate and deceased MLB lead singer Andrew Wood than with his own band. "Hunger Strike" and "Say Hello 2 Heaven" combine glam and grunge better than anything in Love Bone's catalog, while "Wooden Jesus" is less didactic than anything in Pearl Jam's oeuvre. Most of the songs may be about loss and addiction, but this is compelling music for black days. --Charles R. Cross
Customer Reviews:
A solid effort.......2007-06-27
Cornell was better with both Soundgarden and Audioslave, but this is definitely better than his solo career material and worth a purchase if you're a fan of Soundgarden or Pearl Jam.
Great start, but weighed down in the end by the grunge of Seattle.......2007-06-21
The highlights of this album are probably the best Seattle-based stuff to come out in the whole Seattle-fixation era, and maybe that's because this was a release done out of heart-felt effort.
The back story is quite well known by now--when Mother Love Bone spiritual center Andrew Wood died, bandmates joined with members of Soundgarden under the name Temple of the Dog for an indirect tribute--wanting to honor Andrew's spirit with music. This clearly inspired the first two tracks (and probably among the best stuff on the album), "Say Hello 2 Heaven" and "Reach Down" (which is one of the best 11-minute rock songs out there). The album continues with a couple more strong tracks, "Hunger Strike" (still listenable even after all of the overplay in the Seattle-craze days and also includes Eddie Vedder) and "Pushin' Forward Back."
Had the so-called Seattle sound always had such depth of emotion and drive, it probably would have become more of a school of influence than a passing musical fad and fashion--the first four tracks alone are worth buying this disc for. There is a unity of sound and spirit in these songs, the sense of a band that plays to each other rather than out to the crowd for attention and approval (and, let's face it, the money). Also, the range of length among these four tracks show them to be songs that define themselves, that dictate their own needed sound rather than have a format cookie-cuttered onto them. Tracks 1-4 will show you some of the highest potential Seattle grunge could have brought to the world.
But, unfortunately, after that, the album sags aplenty. I have little that keeps me going for the last 6 tracks except maybe "Your Savior," but that one doesn't even always capture my interest. Cornell's vocals feel a little more standardized, the song construction a little more hackneyed. I'll freely admit that part of this was to connect to the fun element of Mother Love Bone, and after all it's all rock and not poetry, but still, there's a lot I find I just want to skip over for the last half or so of this album.
But that's all a shame to say, because the first 25 minutes or so will really perk up your ears. Andrew Wood is properly paid homage to here, but in the end the Seattle script wins out.
Temple of the Dog (self titled).......2007-05-12
Chris Cornell and Eddie Vedder at their best, in the grunge band days before they became mainstream.
Awesome!.......2006-12-05
This is one of my favorite cd's. I am very bummed that this is the only cd they released. "Wooden Jesus" is fantastic, and of course "Hunger Strike" is great! I have a really hard time mentioning just a few songs because all of them are spectacular!!! This cd is a must have for every collection!
Overlooked gem.......2006-10-29
I used to be a big fan of today's alternative rock when I was in high school, but as I grew older I realized the lyrics were depressing, meaningless, profanity laden rants about the lead singer's unhappy childhood.
People were telling me today's alt rock couldn't compare to the stuff put out in the 90's, and after buying Soundgarden's A-sides I saw what they were talking about. Here was a band that rocked hard, produced catchy tunes, and while the lyrics were still depressing, they meant something universal and could be communicated without cursing.
I really liked Soundgarden and the song "Hunger Strike" so I decided to pick this albumn up. Songs "Wooden Jesus" and "Your Savior" mock condecending televangalists and other religious folk while "Four Walled World", "Times of Trouble" and "All Night Thing" are songs of loss and hope. Every song on here is top notch and they all flow smoothy together. It would've been better if Cornell and co. had recorded one more song, and "Reach Down" is a little long, but if you like Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, or grunge, you need to listen to this. It's amazing

Since Toby Keith's commercial success and canny image manipulation show how shrewd he is, perhaps the best explanation for songs as lackluster as "Note to Self" (a generic Rolling Stones arrangement with a hokey lyric) and "Runnin' Block" (about bedding an unattractive woman for the benefit of a buddy) are either laziness or pandering. On White Trash with Money, his first release on his own Show Dog imprint (and without longtime producer James Stroud), Keith occasionally appears to be stretching himself--on the string-laden balladry of "A Little Too Late," the tender "Crash Here Tonight," and perhaps his finest vocal performance to date on "Too Far This Time"--but often seems to be coasting. "Get Drunk and Be Somebody," "Grain of Salt," and "Brand-New Bow" are never less (and little more) than dumb fun, while "Can't Buy You Money" is a clever twist on the "money can't buy you love" adage. The most contentious track here, "Ain't No Right Way," is just waving a red flag at those who refuse to reduce complex issues to simple black-and-white. Keith insists that he only writes as many songs as he needs to record; this time, some quality control might have required writing a few more. --Don McLeese
Customer Reviews:
Disappointment.......2007-04-16
I have generally really enjoyed Toby Keith in the past. I respect his integrity and songwriting skills, but this album diappoints. At it's best, it offers little in the way of new sounds, new ideas, or new flavors. At it's worst, it's dim and, in some cases offensive. None of these songs excited me (like "Beer For My Horses" or "Let's Talk About Me" or wooed me like "I Love This Bar" or "Wish I Didn't Know".
Songs like "Running Block" are downright offensive (and no, I'm not overweight, I just have compassion).
obviously great! .......2007-02-06
music is great or we wouldnt have bought the cd in the first place :)
Machismo Music.......2007-01-28
Toby Keith is cheeky without being arrogant. I like his voice. His music has a baseline brass knuckle truth. I have a friend that I think of every time I hear the the song "I love this bar" Toby Keith has no pretentions to "air"

Product Description
With 6 albums under her belt, an active touring career throughout the U.S. and a string of accolades from the likes of The Washington Post, The Village Voice and The New Yorker, Susan Werner has become one of the defining artists of the folk music genre. Her songs effortlessly slide between folk, jazz and pop, and are delivered with a sassy wit and classic mid-western charm. Her new album "The Gospel Truth" explores the role of the Church in contemporary American life. Quite possibly the first "agnostic gospel" album, her new songs speak in a wide variety of voices, from faithful and traditional to the critical and even the unconvinced.

Gospel Music for the rest of us -.......2007-07-09
If you don't miss "That old time religion" but you do miss the music give this a listen!
Sunday Morning is particularly sweet.
Gospel Truth...it ain't no lie........2007-06-27
This CD is a real treat for anyone who wants creativity, honesty, thoughtfulness, originality and inspiration for their daily lives presented in tunes you can walk away singing. If thinking things through and living a right life are dear to you, you'll love this one. If you're not self-righteously judgmental and not afraid to look at yourself this CD can only delight you. Auburn Annie
The whole truth and nothing but.......2007-05-22
This is a great CD! Good vocals, good instrumentation, and great writing. Susan Werner takes on all comers - phony evangelists, exclusionary fundamentalism, and the boys club mentality of the Catholic Church. When she is not lambasting theocrats, she is expressing the contradiction and confusion experienced by those trying to make "sense" of spirituality and theological concerns. "our father" by itself is worth the price of the CD.
The Gospel Truth.......2007-05-16
Beautiful lady, smooth voice, good compositions. Commentary on religion, such as "How Can I Love One who Hates Me?" My family and my church choir members have just about worn out my copy and many have ordered their own.
Made You Think!.......2007-05-14
Susan uses the gospel style to explore her thoughts on religion. She reflects the experiences of many people her age. "You ask too many questions, dear. No, I think you ask too few." This is a dialogue from one of the songs, and gets at the root of discontent with traditional faith. Yet, the gospel style is so upbeat that you can't help but feel optimistic about the whole process.

I was wishing for a better album.......2007-05-28
"STEADY PULL" is one of my favorite albums of the last 10 years or so. This is not quite in that league, but its still more engaging than her "circus" recording.
Her best album.......2007-05-20
It's hard to believe that after so many albums Jonatha Brooke would take a step up in material but this is a level above the others which were good to start with. The title cut is one of the best songs and singing performances of her career.
Another great record.......2007-04-20
It would seem from previous reviewers that you have either been a huge fan of Jonathas'since the days of the Story or you have never heard of the lady. Well I am in the former camp as I have all of her work and I rate this among her best. I do however notice a recent shift to more of an electric performance, as recently evinced by the Live in NY CD (not a bad thing)
The Cd kicks off with 3 great tracks and continues in that form utill the track in French........maybe I need to hear it more, and does not let up till the end.
A pure class CD and in these days of manufactured music such tallent in both songwriting and performance is indeed VERY rare
A must buy!!!!!!!!!!
Dramatic and superb.......2007-04-07
I've reviewed each of Jonatha's CDs and in the process have come to appreciate both the gentle beauty and the dramatic power of her delivery. This CD meets, even exceeds expectations, on all counts. Some reviewers have noted this may be her best studio effort ever and they may be right, which is high praise. The power of Hearsay, with its message about keeping and revealing secrets, features the best in songwriting and singing from this Dynamo. Matches "Linger" and several other of her signature electric songs. Then, with "Leave The Light On", we hear that sweet sound that, in the end, makes one want to come back to Jonatha and fall into her arms. Stunning song that matches "So Much Mine" or any of her mellow, acoustic beauties. Though they all say Jonatha Brooke, I love hearing different influences in the songs, with the high harmonies that go from British bands to the Beach Boys, and then the instrumentation, even the use of an oboe, makes each listen something special. Following so closely on the heels of the absolutely electric live CD and DVD, Jonatha Brooke proves to be a star with an incredible band who's limited only by her imagination. This CD helps me forget the Circus CD, which in my mind was a bomb. Why only 4 stars? It's not perfect. The song in French is a toss-away for those who don't speak the language, plus the music is nondescript. And Forgiven is too noisy. Crosses the line. I can't get through the song without forwarding to the next. But in summary, this CD is a winner, Jonatha Brooke is a superb talent and the only sad thing is that I don't see a Northeast Ohio visit on her touring calendar. Ugh!
And here's the thing...This album is stunning........2007-04-05
Great songwriting in the Elvis Costello/Aimee Mann school of wit and pop sophitication. The production is fun and stimulating. I would've thought Jon Brion was the producer of some of the tracks. If Aimee Mann's "Whatever" is one of your favorites, you must get this album. The title song is the stand-out track for me, one of those songs that will stand the test of time 50 years from now. "After The Tears" is another, the kind of song that comes along every 10 years.
I'm really enjoying this album.

Johnny Depp and director Gore Verbinski hatched the idea for Rogue's Gallery while filming "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest"--that idea being to cast genteel rock superstars like Bono, Lou Reed, Bryan Ferry, Andre Corr, and Sting to reinterpret gritty seafaring standards for an exhaustive 43-track double-disc set produced by Hal Wilner. Throw in a bunch of credible folk stars (Loudon Wainwright III, Richard Thompson), their offspring (Rufus, Teddy) and a string of other curious characters (Jarvis Cocker, Antony) and what results is one of the strangest compilations in recent memory, if not exactly the most historically authentic or, well, digestible. Nick Cave embraces the role just a little too hard on "Fire Down Below," while Ferry can't help but sound like he's singing for the cast of "The Love Boat," but cut through the chaff and there is some real bootie here: Bono's "Dying Sailor to His Shipmates," Jolie Holland's "The Grey Funnel Line" and "Boney" by a mysterious tramp called Jack Sh**, which must be some kind of anagram for Johnny Depp. --Aidin Vaziri
Album Description
While working on the two "Pirates Of The Carribean" films, Johnny Depp and director Gore Verbinski became fascinated with the lore and fable of the pirates and sailors who ran the high seas. Enter legendary producer Hal Wilner, who brings his knack for matching maverick musicians with extraordinary material. Artists on this double disc set include Bono, Sting, Nick Cave, Bryan Ferry, Lou Reed, Richard Thompson, Lucinda Williams, Jarvis Cocker of Pulp, and many more. "Rogue's Gallery" offers a look at the hardships, the horrors, the lusts and lurid depths, and the crystal beauty that led men to the sea in ships for hundreds of years.

Fun--but not great.......2007-07-03
What a concept--a pirate song co-produced by Verbinski and Depp inspired by the "Pirates of the Carribean" series. It should be great and in places, it is. The big question I came away with is--who is Jack Sh**? That one definitely has me guessing.
I won't belabor the song content or the production value. I think the most notable reviews have got that down pat, although I'm not marking down as far as they have because I'm giving points for originality being a fan of Spike Jones and some other truly demented people.
One thing to note: this is not a CD you'd buy if you were looking for something to amuse your kids. Some of the content is very bawdy and Mom and Dad would have some serious 'splaining to do to the little pirates. There's both some language and some situations that are more twisted than a Hangman's knot.
aaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrghhhhhhhhhhhhh!.......2007-06-09
Some of the songs are quite good(mellow)others a little odd. Its what I expected, but not what you would expect.
Disappointment would be an understatement.......2007-06-04
It is not unusual to find sea shanties performed by not the greatest musicians or singers in the world. It is not unusual to find shanties sung by people who have difficulty keeping perfect pitch, or tempo. But at least they understand what the music is about, and sing it with heart and enthusiasm and a love for the genre.
Hal Wilner should stick to whatever genre it is that made him know enough to be approached by labels, because he clearly has no understanding, and less enthusiasm for *this* genre.
If you love lively music from the maritime era, you can only be bitterly disappointed by this collection. Out of 43 tracks, I found 15 that were salvageable. Sort of.
I've already tossed this onto the pile to go to the resale shop. It wasn't worthy the cost of shipping.
Zzz..........2007-04-04
I have to admit that I have no idea what kinds of music the pirates sang aboard their ships. I know it probably wasn't "yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me," but I expected something different than this. I think my expectations have been colored by groups like The Pogues, Flogging Molly, The Tossers, and the Real McKenzies. I have an annual Pirate Party and I was hoping to find some good music here to get people in the mood for a treasure hunt or pirate liar's dice, but instead, the music on this CD is something I'd put on if the party went on too long and I wanted to encourage people to leave. Some of it is actually awful and the rest is too slow and plodding to inject much energy into any situation.
I appreciate what was attempted here (contemporary artists paying homage to sea chanteys in the spirit of our romanticized version of the pirate era) but it just doesn't really work. The effect is similar to what would be achieved if the London Philharmonic Orchestra attempted to play rap "music" with Luciano Pavarotti rhymin' while flashing gang signs.
another set of hopes are smashed.......2007-03-29
the selection of titles attracted me. The quality of the arrangements, the voices, and the music---are all quite bad.
It is VERY sad that these same titles, could not have been produced for quality. They sound like a nightmare.

Produced by the infamous Dr. Dre with assistance from Mr. Suge Knight, Doggy Style was the first solo outing by Calvin Broadus a.k.a. Snoop Doggy Dog. Incorporating a straight gangsta vibe into the deep funk grooves pioneered by George Clinton and his Parliament-Funkadelic ensemble, Snoop and Dre dogmatically invent the "G-Funk" aesthetic. Espousing an irreverent dope, bitches, and guns mentality, Doggy Style garnered the Parental Advisory for explicit lyrics it sorely deserved. Still, Snoop's lazy-yet-acrobatic rap/drawl is distinctive and undeniably entertaining. With additional vocals from Tha Dogg Pound (Nate Dogg, Warren G, Kurupt, and Dat Nigger Daz), this disc is deceptively professional and musically quite slick. "Murder Was The Case" is practically an inner-city classic, while "Ain't No Fun" is another blunted, urban-rap anthem. Woof! --Mitch Myers

Customer Reviews:
A true Death Row classic!.......2007-07-05
This is by far Snoop's best project and he's had some pretty good stuff in recent years. This cd takes back in time when i was out there running the streets and doing my thing on the party tip. This album really put Snoop's career over the top.
Great production but lyrics can get monotonous .......2007-05-31
This album could've really been something amazing, but due to the constant repetitive lyrics Doggystyle falls short of it's potential. The production on here is fantastic, and there are some definite classics, but some might find it hard to listen to this album from beginning to end because the lyrics get incredibly monotonous.
Nevertheless, 'Doggystyle' remains a great release and possibly the best Snoop has put out. The funky production is great, and it features some classic tracks (Gin & Juice, Murder Was the Case), though my favorites are Lodi-Dodi (a spaced-out, kick arse track, my personal favorite), That Shiznit and the already mentioned 'Murder was the Case'. There's not a single awful track on here, and it features some great guests as well. Unfortunately, if Snoop would show some emotion once in awhile or rap about something meaningful this could have been something epic. As it stands, 'Doggystyle' is a great hip-hop release that will go down in history for numerous reason. I probably might have made this sound like a negative review, but I am only pointing out the cons over the pros because the vast majority of the reviews are proclaiming this as a flawless classic when it definitely has some problems.
Brings Back Memories.......2007-05-06
This is the first album I ever got. I got it in Junior High School from a friend on cassette tape and back then I was a very casual rap fan unlike now, but I have to say I loved it. I now have the 2001 re-release with 13 tracks. Every song is a winner and definitely helped propel the rap industry into the G-Funk Era in 1993 and 1994. Snoop's drawl definitely complements Dr. Dre's awesome melodic funk. I like this one better than the Chronic, and that one bangs too! One of my favorite jams here is "For All My N----z And B---es" where Tha Dogg Pound and Lady of Rage kills the track with relentless gangbanger flows over a bass heavy mobbin beat and loud whiny synths Dr. Dre popularized in the early to mid 90's. "G'z And Hustlaz" is interesting, for the beat brings in elements of rock n roll guitars and Snoop kills the track. He has one of the best flows in the game on this album. I really can't say much more that what has been already said. "Serial Killa" again brings in that whiny synth and Tha Pound and RBX bring so much heat to the table; all 3 kick such mainy flows right out the mental ward, what a classic. "Gin And Juice," "Doggy Dogg World" are what they are, classic G-Funk that stand the test of time; songs like those were repeatedly looked to for influence on other West Coast and even some southern albums in the mid 90's era. "What's My Name" definitely is bouncy, anthemic, and catchy over a P-Funk type sample, another G-Funk stable. If only rap was as passionate as Snoop, Dre and his guests were in this day of age. Timeless classic is the best way to sum up Doggystyle.
Snoop Will Never Be Tha Same.......2007-03-08
I bought the Doggystyle CD about 3 or 4 weeks ago. I had liked Snoop's recent singles like "Drop it Like it's Hot," and "That's That" but man, his singles from 93 are, there's no other word for it, classic. The singles "Gin and Juice and "Who Am I(What's my Name)" are phenomical. Unlike some rap artists, Snoop Doggy Dogg's work is almost always good rap music whether it's from Doggystyle to Tha Blue Carpet Treatment (I have both CDs) but his music was the best on this album for some reason. It might just be because I like this album the best or because of several differences of his music style.
Pretty much every song on here has amazing funky and West Coast beats unlike a lot of his newer music. Don't get me wrong, I loved Tha Blue Carpet Treatment but most of the beats on it weren't very...funky.
Snoop Dogg can still rhyme but not quite as well as on this CD. Like Jay-Z, Snoop spits out the right words at the right time(as I said on a Reasonable Doubt review). I don't know what it is but he's just isn't the same. Doggystyle is probably one of the most worthy rap albums of being a classic along with Jay-Z's Reasonable Doubt, Dr. Dre's Chronic, and Eminem's Marshall Marthers LP.
As for his other albums... I'm not really writing this to explain them but most were quite good. Though I enjoyed Paid Tha Cost to Be Da Boss and Tha Blue Carpet Treatment, like I said, they're not the same. His next album, Tha Doggfather was a fine follow up but it's just not classic. Snoop Doggy Dogg will probably never be able to match this effort. Most of his fans know that and I think he does too. But I doubt it will be forgotten anytime soon after all of its impact. This is it. Snoop's 4x platinum Death Row Record album. A true classic, not an average modern rap CD that will be out of print in 10 more years.
Doin' it DOGGYSTYLE!.......2007-02-24
This album is a straight up classic from top to bottom. Every song is great including the intro and skits. Standouts include "Gin and Juice", "Tha Shiznit", "Murder Was The Case", "Who Am I"(best track in my opinion), and "Aint No Fun." This was the last album Dre produced the entire album for another artist and Dre's production did not disappoint. Dre took a whole lotta samples to create a G Funk masterpiece. This album was Snoop's so i gotta give credit where credit is due. On this album, he was young, hungry, and his voice sounded so smooth and on point which perfectly meshed with dre's beats. Snoop brought a whole new flow, look, and attitude to being a rapper. He's so different than any other rapper in the game and that's why I'm a fan. All guests on the album hold their own especially Kurupt sort of stealing snoop's spotlight on a couple songs. I think Tha Dogg Pound should always be the most heavily used guets on Snoop's albums because they got alotta talent and them w/ Snoop create the ultimate Dogged out team. I constantly listen to this album over and over and never get tired of it. I just wish the songs "Doggystyle" ft. George Clinton, "Tha Next Episode" ft. Dr. Dre, "Gz Up Hoes Down", and "Playing for Keeps" ft. the Convicts were included because each one is produced by Dre and each one is hot. i understand they wanted to keep the album short and sweet and that's why these tracks were not included, but they would make this album even crazier...imagine that? Death Row to this day still hasn't released these songs so i'm getting tired of waiting. This was Snoop in his prime although I also like Tha Doggfather, Tha Blue Carpet Treatment, Tha Last Meal, and a select few from "Da Game is to be sold not to be told" and "No Limit Top Dogg" but they still don't compare to "Doggystyle." His stuff with the Eastsidaz are also solid. People give Snoop a lot of criticism when they only hear his commercial stuff nowadays. Snoop changes his style up for every album and i understand that and i'm still a fan. All y'all Snoop Doggy Dogg haters need to slow up. Anywayz,I would like to see snoops last album with dre production on every song but this is highly unlikely but would be crazy. If not, we always have DOGGYSTYLE...my favorite rap album of all time. Other West Coast classics are Ice Cube "Amerikkkaz most wanted" and "Death Certificate", Mack 10's self titled album, WC-"Curb Servin", Dr. Dre "The Chronic", MC Ren "Kizz My Black AZZ" and "Shock of the hour", Bad Azz "Word on tha Street", Tha Dogg Pound "Dogg Food", Eazy E "Its On-187um killa", and so many others. West Coast rap all night betta yet foe life! and i'm out ssssssssssee ya......

"Loaded with three-part harmonies, orchestral strings, heavy reverb, and fuzzy guitars." - ROLLING STONE
"Continuing a Philly psychedelic tradition that spans from Bardo Pond to Sun Ra." - SPIN
"Not that any great band really comes from anywhere expected or anything, but HOLY FUCK where did these guys come from?" - THE FADER
Abandoning their usual method of production and opting for a new experience, Dr. Dog recorded We All Belong on a twenty-four-track, two-inch tape machine as opposed to their previous releases, which were recorded on their faithful eight-track. A band that thrives on using creative muscle to overcome the inherent limitations of a minimal amount of equipment, the twenty-four-track introduced new possibilities as well as new challenges. Taking full advantage of both, Dr. Dog managed to make an album that captures the organic spirit so important to the band while introducing new layers of vocal harmonies and textured instrumentation the band had only been able to imagine prior. The recording sessions for We All Belong yielded material that the band did not feel worked with the album as a whole but seemed to work as an excellent bridge between Easy Beat and We All Belong. Dr. Dog released this material in September 2006 as a six-song EP, Takers and Leavers, which Rolling Stone raved "matches The Shins with smart, retro psych rock." We All Belong was recorded in between headlining dates, a European tour with Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, and US dates with The Strokes.

Favorite CD of the year so far, by far! .......2007-07-02
Dr. Dog just puts a big smile on my face. They mix elements of the Beatles, the Beach Boys, Bob Dylan, and the Band. They also have a nice "off the cuff" attitude (i.e. rough around the edges, like Exile On Main Street)...their music still falls under the category of indy/alternative, but again, they owe a lot to 60's and 70's rock. There are lots of vocal harmonies on here, lots of piano and organ, great guitar licks, and some terrific songwriting. A few of the songs sound remarkably like outtakes from Music from Big Pink (the Band), and in a GOOD way... This CD grabbed me the very FIRST time I listened to it; now the songs are starting to embed themselves in my brain, in my consciousness. I highly recommend checking out this new Dr. Dog CD.
BEST BAND ON THE PLANET.......2007-04-24
There is a review below that really says it all in how superb the music and lyrics of Dr. Dog is, this album is a must-have (as well as their previous effort, Easybeat). Thoughtful, intellegent lyrics combined with great musicianship and a stunning live show lead up to the obvious statement: Dr. Dog is the best-kept secret in music. It's now time for the world to know.....
Than Kew!.......2007-04-15
Do the right thing. Get this CD. Dr. Dog is not only some of the best pop since Squeeze, but it's old fart friendly. Get a copy for gramps.
Absolutely Amazing!.......2007-04-10
I first heard Dr. Dog when I saw them open for The Black Keys in Minneapolis MN. I was amazed at the fact that I had not heard of them considering how good they are. I became in instant fanatic and ordered all four of their CD's. In my opinion, their most recent effort, "We All Belong" is their best. What I love about Dr. Dog is that they are familiar in the way that they are everything I love about bands from the past such as The Beatles and The Band but yet they are also incredibly original and new. This album is lyrically brilliant as well as musically superior to just about anything on the radio today. Dr. Dog write true songs rather than three chord numbers in which the chorus in rammed down your throat over the 30 to 40 times that is repeated in the song. In any given Dr. Dog song there are numerous chords used and many of them are somewhat advanced chords such as diminished chords. Between the chord structure and the perfect backbone made up of classic sounding bass lines and drums that are the very definition of rhythm and timing this band is simply better and more enjoyable to listen to than virtually any other out right now. The three part harmonies really add to the vintage sound of the record. Not many bands have used three part harmonies and executed them this successfully since the 1960's. It is hard to pick standout songs considering the fact that literally every song is a masterpiece but I guess if I had to choose, my favorites would be "Keep a Friend", "Alaska" and "My Old Ways". This is the best new record to come out during my life of 22 years. It is a simply a must have!
It pops ! It rocks !.......2007-04-04
I might be a teensy bit biased since I'm from Philly, but I can't stop listening and can't get the songs out of my head. Very impressive!
