Forty years ago Jennifer Day would have been wearing a ponytail, bobby socks, and saddle shoes instead of slinky black halter-tops and skintight denims. On her debut album, this Florida-born singer mostly serves up heartthrobby, teen-angst love tunes--musical juvenilia with titles like "Yeah Right" and "Somebody Else's Guy." She sings in a sultry, purry, radio-friendly voice that's unremarkable but sweet and earnestly persuasive all the same. Most of the tunes on The Fun of Your Love have the evanescent quality of unfocused beginner's exercises, yet there are a couple selections that cut deeper and stick to the bone. "Fearless" (a particularly impressive Day original) is a powerful anthem of self-realization. "Gone by Dawn" (cowritten by producer Robert Byrne) is a clear-eyed, resolute kiss-off to a former lover who's no longer worth his weight in heartache. This pair of songs gives listeners a hint of Day's potential, once she takes off the training wheels and hits her stride. --Bob Allen

As fans of musical theater, we're used to offbeat projects, but this long-forgotten show takes the cake--and it's completely entrancing. The opening number alone makes nasty fun of the then-popular beatniks and is immediately followed by "New York," a list song enumerating all the awful things about the city. Rarely has so much bile been spilled on the New York stage--but perhaps that's because the show originated in St. Louis. Tommy Wolf's finger-snapping score and Fran Landesman's biting lyrics are very compelling, especially because it's hard to tell when they're serious and when they're drily sarcastic. The energetic cast, which includes Larry Hagman (best known as JR in Dallas), is backed by a jazz quartet, and the result often sounds strangely contemporary. And then you have some numbers, such as "Night People," that are almost Sondheimian. What a strange, wonderful little show this is. --Elisabeth Vincentelli
Customer Reviews:
An underrated gem!.......2003-06-03
The songs in this musical are simply wonderful! Canny, passionate, "beat," and sardonic. The story, its characters, and the lyrics are classic Greenwich Village of the late 1950's. This CD features talented singers and actors (including a very young Larry Hagman),a great lyricist, lush and complex music. To reiterate, it's just WONDERFUL! I ruined my LP long ago, and am THRILLED to find this CD replacement.
Dig that beat..........2002-02-28
A fun recording to have on CD. Very beatnik oriented musical from 1959 with such interesting names in the cast as Tom Aldredge (Into the Woods, Passion) and Larry Hagman!? The song "New York" is a lot of fun. The best of the rest the score include "The Ballad of the Sad Young Man" sung by Tan Seitz and "Laugh, I Thought I'd Die" sung by Richard Hayes. Larry Hagman has one song, "Travel the Road of Love" and although he doesn't embarrass himself, thank God "I Dream of Jeannie" and "Dallas" were still be come. He definitely did not inherit his mother's singing ability. In fact, I think his mother was performing in "The Sound of Music" during the short run of this show.

great singers, great songs.......2006-05-03
Some of broadway's best singers are on this album, including Brian Stokes Mitchell, Debbie Gravitte, Marin Mazzie, and Rebecca Luker. (The cd is worth buying for Rebecca Luker's song alone!) The songs are beautifully orchestrated and sung. Most are light hearted and fun, leaving me with a good feeling when listening.
If you're a fan of broadway showtunes, I believe you'll enjoy this album.

Coulda been country's Britney? But better.......2007-06-18
This is a good album. It's not a strong 4 stars, but I was feeling generous to a debut effort. The songs that are uptempo and zippy are definitely fun and raise up the album. There's a number of songs that really feel like feel though. Overall this is good country/pop and it's too bad Jennifer never put out anythign else. She's got a light, sort of chirpy voice, not real powerful, but that hasn't stopped a lot of singers. Some good songs:
Yeah, right - fun, bouncy tune.
Someday - has spirit
Gone by Dawn - spunky attitude. Singer dismisses a guy
Disappear
Fearless - good, tough attitude
"Completely" Awesome!.......2002-04-07
Jennifer Day's angelic voice sings all of the songs I have ever wanted to sing to a guy. Every one of her songs can connect to almost anyone and tell it just like it is. From the joys of a relationship in "The Fun of Your Love" to finding love in "What If Its Me" and "Someday" and even getting over heartache in "Gone by Dawn". I would definatley recommend this album to ANYONE who was had ANY problems and who have always wondered how to express their feelings. This album has done it, thanks to Jennifer Day.
"Completely" Wonderful!.......2001-10-29
I actually first heard Jennifer Day a few months ago, when the song "Completely" was played in the background of a TV show. I absolutely loved the song...it was stuck in my head all day...and I went out that night and bought the CD. "The Fun of Your Love" is another wonderful song. I had never heard of her before, I wasn't really into country, but I will definately be back to get her next CD because she really has a beautiful voice.
Dynamite in a small bundle.......2001-07-21
A review of a year-old release is like finding that bottle of Sauvignon Blanc in your cellar after 8-9 months. It hasn't gone over yet and you remember the anticipation of your purchase and wonder what the darn you were thinking when you put it away instead.
I bought this disc in a group of others, including Shedaisy, Dixie Chicks and Kinleys, so young Jennifer earned the compulsory listen and then was unceremoniously, and now regrettably, shelved in favor of the more weighty offerings. Then came the new truck and the cleanout of the CD rack. Faithful as a little sister, there she was, still smiling that pixie grin and ready to warble.
Giving Jen the ear she was finally due, I soon discovered that she has plans. The first track is an announcement that she is a Country Artist - that is her chosen ouvre, at least for now. It seems she schemes to cross over into pop/mor sometime in the next week-and-a-half, as the later tracks indicate.
I will buy lunch for the person who can tell me the basis for "Yeah Right". I believe it's Bach, but getting past the bouncy, addictive vocals makes identification difficult. "Someday" has a decidedly Alannis feel to it, but influence is influence; doing what sells, and carrying it off well, is much more a nod to ability and professionalism than an admission of lack of repertoire. "Somebody Else's Guy" is sultry and seductive; while a Shania might have put more fire into it, Jennifer's barely-out-of-braces slink gives it a Nabakovian electricity. As well, "What If It's Me?" is a plaintive, pensive cry for someone to quit looking to the greener grass and start seeing what's in front; artistically, it allows the world to experience the fact that small packages hold the greatest surprises and demonstrates a remarkable maturity on her part.
With range and verve, Jennifer Day announces she's here and we'd all better watch out, or she'll give us an upper-cut to the kneecaps. When her sophomore effort emerges, I'll purchase it separately so I don't commit the same omission again.
If this is just warming up..........2000-12-19
I have to say I was incredibly hurt by the reviews saying that Jennifer's songs were not deep and that her voice wasn't that great. I have been able to relate to every single song on this CD. It is one of my favorite CD's I have ever bought. Her voice is absolutely incredible, but I believe it is best to hear her live... [her show] it is so powerful. I think that anyone would love it (unless you have no respect or taste) and I recommend it to everyone!

If you're into classical music and Fleetwood Mac then this album is for you! It's actually quite nice! I think this string quartet did a very nice job remaking Fleetwood Mac's masterpieces! It's quite interesting to listen to, especially if you're a big Fleetwood Mac fan! I would most definately recommend this album for big Fleetwood Mac and classical music fans!

The exploits of Ian Fleming's British super-agent James Bond have long since become the longest running film series in history, spanning 40 years and counting. Not the least of the cycle's charm has been its music, a body of work that encompasses pop clichés (the twangy guitar of Monty Norman's original "James Bond Theme") and elegant underscores alike. While this collection spans music from Dr. No to The World Is Not Enough, decades of various legal entanglements prevented it from becoming the ultimate Bond music anthology. This is more a credible simulation, a newly recorded collection of cues and suites (including music previously unreleased on the original soundtracks) performed by Nic Raine and the City of Prague Symphony Orchestra. With John Barry's lush, ever-evocative scores both forming the core and setting the tone (but also featuring the work of George Martin, David Arnold, Michael Kamen, Bill Conti, and Eric Serra), it's the most comprehensive--if not exactly authentic--collection of Bond music yet attempted. --Jerry McCulley
Customer Reviews:
almost the perfect James Bond collection.......2005-07-20
this 4 CD box has most of the familiar James Bond compositions.
Still, some tunes are missing(from for instance Thunderball and For Your Eyes Only)and most of the time the attention is on the instrumental version of the title track which is a bit of a shame. And yet, there are too many great pieces on this collection to make it a failure.Alpine Drive,Dawn Raid at Fort Knox,On Her Majesty's Secret Service(every track),Miss Goodhead and so on.All great pieces that not only show the great talent of John Barry but also the great power of James Bond films.Cause when you hear the music, you see the scenes in front of you.
Very much a recommendation to all Bond and Barry fans although sometimes it focusses too much on title songs. The only solution is to buy all separate soundtracks.
Good Collection.......2005-02-24
Very nice packaging and good tracks from the Bond music library make this an anoutstanding item. "From Russia With Love" and "Diamonds Are Forever" contain beautiful and energetic renditions. The John Barry music is handled quite well. I didn't real care for the David Arnold selections. "The World Is Not Enough" was weak. Overall it is a good collection just the same.
Not excatly what I expected.......2003-04-10
I when I read some of the reviews of this I thought that this was a complete collection of all the originals of the Theme songs of every James Bond movie and remakes done by the Prague Philharmonic of some of the other songs in the various movies. After recieveing this ... I started to listen to it and found out that it was all done by the orchestra. The are very good, but to a point it is not the same thing as owning a disc will all the orignal songs on it. Overall, this good if all the you want is the orchestral versions of most of the songs in the movies or the suites out of some of the movies. To a point these don't compare to the orignals. Keep looking if you want a set with all the orignals songs in it.
The James Bond CD for the John Barry purist?.......2003-01-28
Let's cut to the chase. Nic Raine and the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra do John Barry's work justice. 90% of this collection is as close as you can get to the original James Bond soundtracks. The other 10% lends itself to some artistic license with respect to the arrangements. Most notable is the main theme to Goldfinger. Also Nic slips in a few previously unreleased tracks. You will find these on the On Her Majesty's Secret Service and Golden Eye tracks. This CD boxed set is definitely made for the Bond soundtrack fan. The die hard John Barry "purist"/ traditionalist may find some of these tracks questionable at first, but after a few times Nic Raine's artistic license gives a fresh perspective to the familiar Bond/ Barry themes. The only reservation I have with this CD set is with some of selections that are performed. For instance, from Goldfinger, "Dawn Raid At Fort Knox" was a poor selection considering the selection available on that particular soundtrack. The most famous 007 soundtrack of all I dare say. Overall Nic hits the mark, and this CD set is a tribute to Barry's (as well as, George Martin's, Marvin Hamlish's, and Bill Conti's and David Arnold's) work. It's all here in one collection. I am a die-hard Bond soundtrack fan, and to the casual soundtrack fan I say this CD is set all you need to experience the Bond music legacy. To those who are hard core 007 soundtrack fans ...this is a FANTASTIC "addition" to your collection. This has to be the BEST (and probably the only) 007 "soundtrack" compilation. Whereas all the others feature the "main themes" from the Bond films as originally recorded, this one truly gives you the Bond experience.
Very enjoyable with most of the BOND music you'd want........2002-12-08
This is similar but more comprehensive than another BOND collection on one CD by the City of Prague Philharmonic. These are good renditions but clearly not the orginals. I must ask if the Prague Philharmonic does not own a harp? It is glaringly missing in the Goldfinger themes and i am sure on others. That harp is an exciting and beautiful touch to the wonderful GOLDFINGER theme and its absents is unfortuneatly very noticeable. Also some of the other themes can even sound muzaky if thats a word(elevator music)
It gets 3 solid stars good collection yet defineatly something is lacking.

Last Rose of Summer-Deanna Durbin.......2006-02-26
You have sent an e-mail inviting me to give my opinion on this
item.I am sorry I cannot go over 2 stars as unfortunately there
is a defect on last track of the record, precisely on the song
"The last Rose of Summer".Anyhow I intend to buy other Deanna
Durbin's records as I enjoy very much her voice, but unfortunately the wallet is empty now.
Thanks for all your help on trying to find "Shane: a Tribute to Victor Young"but no euccess. I will try to buy another item later.
Last Rose of Summer - flat and lifeless.......2004-09-16
This is a good CD only because of Deanna Durbin, but it is not a good CD for the following:
- It's stated right on the back of the jewel case that the source material used was "original 78 rpm records."
- The music is so compressed that there is no-longer any dynamic range left. I imagine the producers did this to eliminate any surface noise from the source material. But sense the source material was records you need to expect some surface noise, and to try and eliminate all of the surface noise is not good. Because the music becomes so compressed it starts to sound flat with no dynamic range at all. I understand these recordings are mono and not stereo, but there should be some amount of dynamic range to the sound. These recordings sound flat and lifeless.
Therefore, I do not recommend that you buy this CD look else where.

Just Awsome.......2000-02-06
This single is just awsome. It attracts young and older listeners. My daughter (16 months) and I (32) just love it. We sing it all the time together. Can't wait till march to get the CD. Thanks so much Jennifer for this song.
it's wonderful.......2000-01-20
I think this is the best song for any young person male or female. It is so peppy and upbeat and just makes you want to dance and sing along with it!
a good start.......2000-01-01
Granted "The fun of your love" is no grammy award winning song, its not bad. I've been a country music fan all of my life and its sad to hear some of the wannabes these days. Jennifer Day trying not to be a wannabe but an artist. She has written or co written most of the songs from her forth coming album. Its different for country radio and thats what they need, a change.
Incredibly powerful voice.......1999-12-23
This kid is so ready for the top of the charts! This song is just a tiny sampling of what's yet to come..You can hear the clarity, the artistry & the awesome resonance in her voice. This one will make us all happy. Can't wait for the album!
Its Great dont listen to the other post!.......1999-12-15
