5 out of 5 stars Roy Clark Greatist Hits.......2007-07-09

For those of you that have heard Roy Clark's voice, this is a treat from memory lane and, for those that have never heard his voice, it is also a treat. One of the most talented stars of country music and a collection of some of his most memorable songs. I'm very pleased.

5 out of 5 stars The Original Roy Clark.......2007-01-13

This CD is veritable collection of Roy's memorable favorites of three to four decades ago. Roy's distinctive mellow tenor voice can portrays a variety of songs from ballads to Bluegrass to humorous tunes, making them all very entertaining fare.

5 out of 5 stars I REMEMBER ROY.......2006-01-01

About 1936 or 37 I heard the Carter Family on the radio and fell in love with country music. I listened to them all as I grew up. Roy Rogers, Hank Williams, Minnie Pearl (she was a comedian and I thought she was the greatest), Hawkshaw Hawkins, et al.

I always liked Roy Clark. I enjoyed his pickin', singing and story telling. He was great at all of the above. Somewhere in the 80s he came to Chicago. Several friends and myself went to see his show.

He walked out on the stage with nothing but a stool and a guitar. He sat down on the stool and proceeded to keep the whole audience spellbound with his singing, pickin' and storytelling. He was the greatest!!

This album brings back a lot of good memories because these are the songs that were hits at the time. He told the story of life -- Right or Left at Main Stree; Thank God and Greyhound You're Gone. And those love ballads. Fantastic. This is a compilation of, what I think are, his best songs and my favorites. This is Roy at his best. You will not be disappointed when you purchase this, or any other of Roy's, records.

5 out of 5 stars Essential Recording.......2004-05-05

Here is the single best Cd of Roy Clark available.

All of Roy Clark's biggest and best known songs all in their original versions all on one disc.

Very good packaging also, with a great biograhpy along with recording dates and chart positions.

5 out of 5 stars Greatest Hits (Varese) Roy Clark.......2002-05-09

I received my CD today, and appreciate the speedy way my order was shipped. The CD is typical of Roy Clark's music; entertaining and delightful. I especially love "Come Live With Me and Yesterday." These two songs seems to me to be Roy' Clark's signature songs."

5 out of 5 stars Finally on CD.......2007-02-26

In 2004, Rhino Handmade released the long out-of-print soundtrack "Finian's Rainbow" on CD. But because it was a limited edition, it was only available for a short term and sold at a high price.

Collector's Choice has wisely released the soundtrack at a lower price, and with fine remastering, fans of the underrated musical can finally own the soundtrack without paying too much money.

"Finian's Rainbow", directed by Francis Ford Coppola, was released in 1968, a period when the era of musicals was pretty much over. The film was not a big hit, but it's actually a beautiful film despite some creaky plot points and some outdated ideas.

What makes the film so special is the music and the performers who sing it. Fred Astaire and Petula Clark make an ideal father and daughter. Astaire is as charming as ever, and Clark truly comes into her own as a singer and actress. Although I love Clark's own recordings in English and French, this film is what made me a true fan. She glows on "Look to the Rainbow" and her duet with Don Francks on "Old Devil Moon" is both romantic and sensual, not the typical sentimental duet you see in musicals.

It's been a long time since this soundtrack has been readily available. I highly recommend this soundtrack if you are a fan of the film, and especially if you are a big Petula Clark fan.

4 out of 5 stars Great Banjo introduction.......2003-03-11

I love Roy Clark from Hee Haw and this CD introduced me to more great banjo hits. I wish I had known there wasn't any singing on this disc but its still worth it none the less. Also I wish there was more info other than a title list inside. I buy CD's for more than just the music I like to read about the artists and songs.

    3 out of 5 stars Good...kinda weird, but good.......2003-02-28

I'm a bluegrass banjo fan and I found this CD to be pretty good...kinda weird....but pretty good. Roy proves himself to be a master with his hard driving banjo style particularily the double banjo pieces with Trent. However, some songs have drums and even keyboards, which, when coupled with banjo, yield a bizarre ragtime sound. I don't want to sound like the bluegrass police or anything, but some stuff on this CD like "beerbarrel polka" are definitely not bluegrass. Still, it's well worth listening to.

5 out of 5 stars Banjo Bandits Roy Clark/Buck Trent.......2001-06-03

This is a great banjo album. How Roy and Buck can play that fast and in unison is a mystery to me. If you like 5 string banjo, this is a good album.

5 out of 5 stars Fan of fast, twangy, jug-blowin, and foot stompin music!.......2000-05-02

The person who invented the banjo never would have dreamed it could be played like this! These guys are amazing, if everyone could play banjo like this, the world would be at peace. I don't know how, but I am sure it would. Even people who dislike the sound of banjos would love this CD, just because of the pure excellence of it. Buy this CD now, there isn't a bad song on it.

Capitol initially released Roy Clark's first album in 1963 to little fanfare. Razor & Tie's reissue of this fully instrumental LP, recorded before Clark signed with the label, is valuable in that it showcases his remarkable six-string gifts on a "groovy" blend of traditional country-swing and the modern twist sound that was so popular with the kids at the time. Just when you think he can't pluck 'em any faster, he'll double-time at blazing speed with continued precision accuracy. The one drawback is that the total running time is relatively brief, at about 30 minutes. Twelve tracks in all, this record allows country fans to get in touch with some of the genre's roots, albeit in a "hip" setting, and confirms that "the guy from Hee Haw" can really play. --Jason Pascal

Got this for my dad for his birthday, and he loves it. No slow songs in the bunch!

    5 out of 5 stars A Must-Have.......2002-08-18

Being a hard rock fan of Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, etc., I caught a portion of "Texas Twist" at friend's party and asked who the incredible guitarist was. When I was told "Roy Clark", I said "You mean...?". That's right. The same goofy guy I saw on HEE-HAW as a kid. For anyone who appreciates guitar, any guitar, Roy Clark may be the best of time, and of all classifications.

5 out of 5 stars Told you so.......2001-12-02

I told my Freind who is an educated guitar player about seeing Roy Clark on HEE-HAW when I was a child (13). I remembered him as really "cooking" and proved it to him tonite with your helpful snips. He wants it now .

5 out of 5 stars What a flood of memories!.......2001-09-02

I still can't believe that I found this album on CD. My parents bought this album when I was a kid, maybe 10 years old. I ended up confiscating it and wearing the grooves off it. If you love guitar pickin' (Alvin Lee, Steve Morse, Outlaws,...) you'll love this. I saw Roy on an episode of "The Odd Couple" and he just RIPPED UP!! an acoustic guitar with a 2-minute flamenco thrash solo. WOW! The Cd's short (30 min. +/-) but Oh So Sweet! Thank god for CD's. Now I can play it to death all over again. Memories...

    5 out of 5 stars AMAZING.......2000-02-12

A little short but unbelievable. I have only listened to Roy Clark on Hee Haw. I found this CD at Yahoo's Broadcast site where you can preview the entire thing for free. I immediately came to Amazon to see if I could buy it! As another review I read explained ... the title says it all, and if Roy Clark were a classical guitarist he might be the best ever. This CD leaves you begging for more, and makes you wish you could have seen these songs played live. Can he really move his fingers that fast? Next I am going to Ticketmaster to see if Roy still tours!

3 out of 5 stars The Best of... His Capitol Years.......2002-04-30

If you are looking for his "fast picking Hee Haw sounding songs," sorry. To be honest, he never recorded anything like that. He usually recorded slow, string-laden ballads. These recordings are from his mid 60's tenure on Capitol records where they tried to market him as a pop singer. Lots of strings and background vocalists. Not bad music by any means. Included is his masterful, and original, version of "Malengunua," and also "The Tips of My Fingers." If you are serious about your collection, this belongs in it.

1 out of 5 stars not what you expect -- (and the sound samples are wrong).......2000-01-19

If you're hoping for the fast-pickin' country music that you probably heard Roy Clark play on the old Hee Haw TV show, this is NOT what you're looking for. This is slow, schmaltzy (and in my opinion boring) music.

The sound samples available as of January 18, 2000 seem out of sync with this album. If you click on the songs and hear the singing of someone who sounds a bit like Julie Andrews in "The Sound Of Music", then you're not hearing the samples from the Roy Clark CD. Someone at Amazon goofed.
