Veteran virtuoso Tony Trischka enlists the services of fellow banjoists ranging from seminal inspirations (Earl Scruggs) to pupils and acolytes (Béla Fleck, Alison Brown) to wild cards (comedian Steve Martin) for a series of duets supported by stellar bluegrass musicians such as Sam Bush, Jerry Douglas, and members of Union Station. Most of the tracks are instrumentals, though Dudley Connelly provides vocals on traditional bluegrass standards such as "Fox on the Run" and "Live and Let Live," with Nickel Creek mandolinist Chris Thile and frequent duo partner Michael Davis teaming for harmonies on "Run Mountain." This cd has the best selection of banjo songs out there, as well as different styles played by different artists. This cd includes Earl Scruggs playing Farewell Blues, Tom Adams playing Fox on the Run, Bela Fleck playing Twilight Harbor, and many more. Definitely buy.

I saw Steve Martin on the Dave Letterman show and was stunned at how well he played the banjo. It was a selection from this CD which Steve had written. I immediately ordered the CD and have enjoyed it almost daily since it arrived. If you like banjo pickin', this is as close to heaven as it gets. Tony was Bela Fleck's mentor and I had seen Bela Fleck live and immediately bought his CD. This has some real talent. Enjoy.

this is a pretty good album, some good bluegrass tunes, as well as some cool non-bluegrassy tunes, (track 13 is incredible, just tony and bela on banjos, no other instruments, kind of a classical sounding tune).
i personally didnt care for the couple of songs that had vocals, but thats just me.

      Well, you do have to really enjoy the sound of banjo, steel guitar, ukelele, dobra, etc. to get the full benefit of this album, but if you have any taste at all for "Good Ol' Boy" pickin', you'll love this.

      Now, if you already have "Pickin' On Christmas", you will find three duplications, but the other seven cuts still make this a worthwhile album.

      Notable is Lorenzo Martinez' interpretation of "Carol of the Bells", a really soulful banjo rendition. But the bluegrass instruments bring out new sounds in all of the cuts. As I mentioned in my "Pickin' On Christmas" review, "Oh Come All Ye Faithful" does come out a bit fast & heel kicking for a carol, But basically, this is all good clean fun and highly enjoyable if you like bluegrass at all.
