Album Description

Eggs Over Easy had a huge influence on many British bands of the period, especially Brinsley Schwarz. According to the Brinsley's Nick Lowe, the Eggs had over 100 great songs at their fingertips. Just before they split, Eggs Over Easy recorded their lone album, Good 'n' Cheap, in 1972. This album, produced by Link Wray and the Eggs, is now thought of as a classic. It is now reissued here with 4 bonus tracks, supplied by the band. The accompanying 16 page CD booklet includes extensive liner notes, plus an additional note by Loudon Wainwright. Also, full lyrics to every track, rare photographs & reproductions of the original LP sleeve.

This Album, Produced by Link Wray and the Eggs, is Now Thought of as a Classic. It is Now Reissued Here with Four Bonus Tracks, Supplied by the Band. '111 Avenue C' and 'across from Me' were Both Recorded at Olympic Studios in London in 1971/72. 'bar in My Car' was Released as a Single in 1974, and 'scene of the Crime' was Recorded When the Band Reunited Briefly in 1980.

Eggs Over Easy was a pub rock band from the early '70s. Their only album was Good 'n' cheap, a country rock album produced by Link Wray and the Eggs. It was released in 1972. The only song on it that appears on another album is "The Factory", a hard rock song that is one of the best songs on the album. There are other great songs on the album including Austin de Lone's "Party Party" and Brien Hopkins' "Henry Morgan". Also Jack O'Hara's "Arkansas". This album sounds like an old favorite the first time you hear it.

The albums that make up this twofer demonstrate that there is a lot more to Anne's music than just the hits, of which Destiny (written by Jose Feliciano) was Anne's biggest from the songs included here.

Anne does superb covers of Night owl (James Taylor), You've got a friend (written by Carole King but a big hit for James Taylor), I know (Barbara George), Cotton Jenny (Gordon Lightfoot), A stranger in my place (Kenny Rogers) and I'll never fall in love again (the Bacharach/David song that provided Bobbie Gentry with her only British number one hit.

Most of the other songs are likely to be unfamiliar to all but Anne's committed fans, but they are well worth hearing. Sing high sing low was a minor hit in America and Canada, but achieved its greatest popularity in New Zealand.

Brian Ahern, Anne's record producer in those days, would achieve greater fame with Emmylou Harris. It's not difficult to see why Emmylou wanted him to produce her records. The overall feel of the album is easy listening pop country - just what you expect from Anne.

When Anne Murray burst out of nowhere with "Snowbird" U.S. Capitol didn't have a clue what to do with her. The first U.S. album combined disparate Canadian tracks with a truly odd cover. Then came the non-titled "Anne Murray," the U.S. version of "Straight, Clean and Simple" stripped of its multi-meaninged title which frightened the U.S. execs (who would buy straight music from a clean and simple singer?), its cover art recropped and ruined. Now finally here is the opportunity to hear the album in its original Canadian sound--straight, clean and simple--coupled with the wonderful "Talk It Over in the Morning." This is a star just beginning to shine and sparkle but she's already a bright, blazing star. The wealth of music here is astounding and has certainly weathered the years.

This 2 CD set of Anne's early Canadian Capitol Records sessions is a treat for her fans who have waited patiently for the recordings to be resurrected. Her trademark clear and effortless contralto soars above the pop/folk/country arrangements that never sound slick or over produced. And it is interesting to hear how the great instrument that is Anne's voice has evolved from these early years to the present. The entire Signature Series is a remarkable achievement by a remarkable artist. This collection of musical Canadiana is a must for fans of arguably, one of the best pop voices of our time.

A super budget 5 CD collection of all of Grainger's Piano music.
Every last note!
The shipping alone would be $17.00+ for the 5 individual Cds.
Englishman Martin Jones plays these as if he wrote them. He is thoroughly inside this music.
I think his best work to date.
He is joined on CD #5 by Richard Mcmahon and Phillip Martin. Where they rollick in various combos and trios on 1, 2 and 3 pianos. This is exhilerating. Especially on an truly uplifting version of Green Bushes.
The entire set is strongly idiomatic and given a clear, crisp, warm and spacious recording. FIRST CLASS sound.
There are too many highlights to single out, but the In A Nutshell Suite and Green Bushes are especially GOOD!
There is not a bad note or "vibe" on any of these CDs.
Highly recommended for Granger fans and fans of English Piano Music.

Two Classic Multi-million Selling Albums from the Canadian Singing Queen!

Anne's career waned a bit from 1981 to 1983, but she recovered nicely with the two albums on this CD. Anne had six consecutive singles miss the #1 spot on the country charts from March 1981 to September 1983, and the accompanying albums were some of her less distinguished recordings, in my opinion. But that all changed with "A Little Good News", when the lead single and title cut took her back to the top. As one reviewer noted, it's one of the very few political message songs that Anne recorded, and it was very well-received: she received the CMA Award for Single Of The Year for it. Strong song choices abound on "A Little Good News". I've always been fond of the second #1 from this album, "Just Another Woman In Love", and the Kenny Loggins-penned "The More We Try" is a beautiful sad song. The sound was varied slightly, and she sounded like she was having fun again. Her career reinvigorated, she then released "Heart Over Mind" in 1985 and scored yet another #1 country single with "Nobody Loves Me Like You Do". This album is poppier than some of her previous works - Anne was continuing to search for that elusive pop hit during this time. [She went full-out pop on her next album, "Something To Talk About", but still only managed a #92 pop hit with "Now And Forever (You And Me)"]. Interestingly, Whitney Houston recorded two of the same songs from "Heart Over Mind" on her debut CD that was out at the same time - "Nobody Loves Me Like You Do" and "Take Good Care Of My Heart". Anne's versions are easily as good, and "Time Don't Run Out On Me" was a classic Carole King-Gerry Goffin song as well. All in all, these two albums are definite highlights of her '80s output and well-worth the purchase price.

The first album of this twofer, A little good news from 1983, yielded two number one country hits. The title track was something different from Anne. I'd never heard her do anything remotely political before. What I particularly like about this song is that it highlights problems without expressing an opinion on how they might be solved, only a wish for a solution. Nobody will work out anything about Anne's political opinions from this song.

The other number one was Just another woman is love - it is the kind of song I expect from Anne, and she sings it brilliantly. There were other singles from the album, but they didn't do much, which was a pity as this is a great album full of wonderful songs.

The second album, Heart over mind from 1984, makes a more conscious effort to win over pop fans, but ultimately it is still Anne's singing that counts. The two big hits here were Time don't run out on me and a duet with Dave Loggins, Nobody loves me like you do. Of the other songs, I first heard Our love on an album by Elkie Brooks, but I have no idea who recorded the song first. It is the last track and as such it makes a great way to end another excellent twofer in this long series.

      I was amazed to find out that Sarah was only 16 when she recorded this. Her individual style flows through the lyrics and notes effortlessly. It is so difficult to categorize this music, because it has a little of so many types of music, the sweetness and soul of oldies like Brenda Lee, but the modern touch like Norah Jones. It is the perfect CD to have on for just about any mood. I can't wait to see where this girl goes! I'm going to follow her, that's for sure! Just listen to some clips, and hear for yourself.

      Sarah puts on quite a show in person, and, after seeing her sing live last summer, I had to have this CD. After listening to it many times since then, I still can't believe that so young a performer could be such a talented singer/songwriter. I look forward to following her career and hearing her next CD, which should be out soon. Sample some of her tunes and then try this CD. This music really grows on you.

      When she recorded this, her first album, Sarah Gautschi was only sixteen. I can only imagine that Eva Cassidy sounded similar when she was 16. The song, "Come on Home" sure doesn't sound like a 16 year old wrote it, nor does the title song, "Light Up the Night". Sarah's voice is clear and silvery like Patsy Cline, but with power. Listen to the sample songs. You'll buy the CD and you won't regret it. I've listened to it for a year now and never get tired of it.
