The back cover of this 1997 release jokingly calls the artist "America's Favorite Western Dance Combo," but after spinning this groovy platter, you realize that it may not be a joke after all. While the pulsating musical mix blends elements of swing, rockabilly, and the in-between country boogie, Big Sandy (Robert Williams) and his pure tenor croon with polish and flair. What truly makes this record worthwhile is the strong assortment of Sandy originals: "What's It To Ya?" could be right out of the Bob Wills book, "If I Knew Now" sounds remarkably like an early-century pop standard, and "Loser's Blues" calls to mind Merle Travis. The lone cover, Webb Pierce's "Have You Ever Had the Feelin'," is really a reworking of Wills's "Blue Bonnet Rag." All the while, super-fluid guitarist Ashley Kingman and sneaky steel player Lee Jeffriess (who contributes a jaunty instrumental) engage in friendly but formidable sparring. --Marc Greilsamer

Album Description

Billy' Mitchell's songs are inspired by the whimsy of Jimmy Buffett, the wit of Shel Silverstein, the eccentricity of John Prine with a dash of Spike Jones thrown in for good measure. "Billy's music is like a trip to Key West via "The Twilight Zone"; great fun, full of musical surprises." says Ed Dillon, former touring member of The Clancy Brothers (Irish Folk legends).

The songs were written during a stay on the Gulf of Mexico's Florida coast and not only captured the carefree spirit of the region, but reflect Billy's "the glass is half-full" philosophy. The 12 song ebut CD of original songs spans genres from Beach tunes, to Bluegrass, to Folk, R & B and Country. The songs are classic lyric based, story songs written from an angst-free, post adolescent point of view. Not to be taken seriously, the CD is full of serious fun. "What's so Bad About Feelin' Good?" was produced at Ark Studios in Fairhaven, MA and features 14 guest musicians.

Obvious damage on the master tape - it's true..........2007-06-11

I also bought this CD because I love the sounds of POCO. Unfortunately there is noticeable damage which one can hear on track 9 as well as other tracks. The end result is that instead of enjoying the music ones ear is inclined to become much more critical - listening for imperfections instead of listening for the pleasure of it all. These are 2 of my favorite POCO albums (especially "POCO...A Good Feelin' to Know"). Purchase the EPIC versions of these 2 albums because they are truly worthy of 5 star status.

Bad product by Beat Goes On.......2002-09-17

Based on the excellent past releases (really remastered sound, good liner notes, graphic package restored) by BGO label, especially those from Robim Trower, i don't even think when i saw this product. Two of the most satisfying and enjoyable albuns by Poco, in one cd... what a bargain.... I bought it right away. What a disapointment... if the sound of this disc is remastered, keep your mastered versions by Sony label.... it's by far much better... and this is not the only complaint... two tracks have evident damages on the sound, with very annoying "effects" on the left chanel not present on the original releases... the music of Poco doesn't deserve this treatment, nor the consummer... Too bad BGO.

Terrific 'Real' Country Music.......2000-05-07

This CD is another breath of fresh air in country music.....it's country as country was meant to be. There aren't any annoying pounding drums or screaming, wailing rock guitars. The steel guitar, fiddle, mandolin and take-off guitar are are all VERY well done. Mr. Day does a great job in putting across a good variety of country songs and subjects.....clear vocals, and original songs that mean something to the listener. My personal favorite is "Losin' My Life" followed by "Beer on the Bar" and "She's Just an old-time Memory". The title track "Country Feelings" is A+ too...very nice, relaxing song.

I loved Beer on the Bar. It's truly a classic country song. Also good, is "High" and "She's just an old time memory." Congratulations, George, you're keeping traditional country music alive. Thank you.

I Love "Country Feelin's".......2000-05-03

My favorite song is "She's Just An Old Time Memory", but "Beer on the Bar" comes close. George has a great voice....real country. The band is awesome, especially the piano player in "Beer on the Bar." I've recommended this CD to many of my friends. George deserves the support.
