Lovely tunes..........2007-04-21
I love this soundtrack. I never saw the film (it seemed like a coming of age/chick flick, which is always a bad sign), but I love the artists here. Sugar Sugar by The Archies, Hitchin' a Ride by Vanity Fare, and Band of Gold by Frenda Payne are all here. Oh, yeah, and Daydream Believer, a wonderful Jon Stewart tune performed by the wonderful Monkees. The rest of the songs are lovely, too. Picking this up is a lot cheaper than buying the songs seperately. Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful...
Fun all the way!.......2005-06-21
You can listen to this soundtrack any time of the year and it's bound to cheer you up, it's a marvellous accompaniment to a fab film. Although it might lack Nancy Sinatra's classic song 'These Boots Were Made For Walking' thats no reason to overlook the great collection of songs that have been brought together in this great CD. A purchase wouldn't be a waste of money by any stretch of the imagination it's really worth every penny. (or cent as the case may be)
I`m listening to it now!.......2005-05-27
I listen to this soundtrack all the time. Everyone loves it as you can see. I mean who can`t? It`s a great soundtrack. Possibly the best? Who knows? I find it great and if you listen to the samples or buy the cd I bet you`ll love. If you don`t just click no under the helpful review thing, but I bet you anything that everyone will find this helpful. I love the movie and the songs in it so I bought the cd, well my mom did and I am so thankful for it. If you like the movie you need to listen to this. It`s what you need to do. If you like the samples or the cd you must see the movie. It`s PG-13 because of sexual reffrences, laungue, and audult themes. You should be at least 9 to see it. I saw it well when I was ten and it was a little over my head as my mom calls it. Anyway I`m not here to talk about the movie, I`m here to talk about the soundtrack that rocks. Like I said earlier this is a soundtrack you will love and listen to all the time.
Thank`s for your time,
Vicki
This music has a place in my heart.......2005-02-27
I liked the movie, but I really love this soundtrack. It's what I put on when I'm tired of being an adult. The Archies, The Jackson Five, Stevie Wonder... they were all a part of my childhood... back when I took my allowance to Woolworth's every week and to buy a 45. If you remember those days fondly, you'll love this album. It's full of bubblegum favorites that still bring a smile to my face.
buy it! buy it!..........2004-11-19

Wonderful, but not my first choice.......2007-04-07
I believe this was the first recording of Elijah in English that used an "international" conductor and some international singers. Fruhbeck gives a good, dramatic sweep to the piece, with some wonderful dramatic moments. This is an old fashioned performance, with only a solo quartet, and if there is a semi-chorus, I can't tell the difference. This means that the soprano is the Widow, and an Angel, the mezzo the Angel and Queen Jezabel, etc. You really should have a libretto, but you don't get one at this price.
Fischer-Dieskau roughens up his voice for the role, and therein lies a problem. The voice spreads and his diction suffers because of it; that and his unidiomatic pronounciation, with far too many rolled "r"s. He does the drama well, but what works well in lieder works here less well on the large scale. Odd, given his success as on opera singer (check out his Iago), that here he frequently comes off blustery.
Dame Gwyneth Jones belies her reputation and gives a contolled, dramatic performance, using her "edge" to advantage in "Hear Ye, Israel". Gedda's diction is amazing, with exactly the right color for this literature, and projecting a little more blood than an English tenor.
Dame Janet Baker is my star in this performance. Dramatic, heart-rending when need be, and in wonderful voice. She'll chill your blood when she tells the people of Baal to "slaughter him, do what he hath done!".
And as for the people of Baal, the Philharmonia Chorus is wonderful. Incisive and dramatic, with beautiful tone. I could do without the trick of the boy choir for "Lift Thine Eyes", and I miss the small ensembles, but all in all a fine performance, and good recording, circa 1968.
First choice in English, Daniels/Terfel: better Elijah in Terfel, better recording, more authentic orchestra, small vocal ensembles (as per the score) but inferior women (including Fleming: beautiful tone, but where's her head?). In German, it's Sawallisch/Adam all the way.
But if you're singing Elijah, and have a score, this is a good choice.
THE BEST recording of the BEST oratorio ever..........2006-08-15
Okay, I'm gonna admit I'm biased- I first sung in the chorus of Elijah when I was 14 and it made a BIG impression on me!
This recording is in every way wonderful. Starting with Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau. He IS Elijah to me. His singing is perfection. He has amazing phrasing and his diction makes it possible to understand the lovely, inspired libretto to this heavenly music. There are so many pieces that are ephemeral, but a couple of my favorites are: #14, Lord God of Abraham and #37, For the Mountains shall Depart. Dieskau does a great job of what I think of as compassionate, heartfelt singing. His interpretation sounds like the voice of God himself. It has a quality of kindness and yet he sounds just as convincing reprimanding the people of Baal. He is the true highlight of this recording.
That said, the rest of the cast is wonderful as well. Gwyneth Jones has a lovely, silvery voice that has a clarion bell-like tone that rings over the large orchestra with ease. She has occasional "misfire" but is a consistent performer. Dame Janet Baker and Nicolai Gedda both perform at a consistently lovely level. The orchestra and chorus are both wonderful. #15, Cast thy Burden upon the Lord, #32 He that Shall Endure to the End, and #38 Then Did Elijah are all highlights.
All said, for me the main reason to get this recording is Dieskau's Elijah- after all, he's the main character. But don't forget the lovely music. This story is exciting and passionate and sacred all at the same time. For me, it's the best oratorio that has a moving story and great music too.
Too bad there are so few recordings of Elijah.......2006-07-03
This is a good recording of an oratorio that deserves more attention. The chorus and soloists are very good--I just wish Fischer-Diskau wouldn't slide around so much in singing the title part!

Country's honey-voiced hopeless romantic gleans his career with this satisfying collection featuring rerecordings of 14 hits, his original version of "Paint me a Birmingham," and two new numbers. He's made fresh gold with "Used to the Pain," which sounds like a classic Tracy Lawrence ballad, full of regret over a heartbroken past, yet dappled with hope for the future. There's also "If I Don't Make It Back," a sentimental male-bonding story of a departing soldier's words to his buddies with a tearjerker ending. The older tunes, like "Birmingham" and "Today's Lonely Fool," stand time's test, as does the undiminished emotional palette of Lawrence's voice. Although most of these numbers are sad or starry-eyed honky-tonk, the set ends with the rowdy "If the Good Die Young," a rocker with the kickin' line "I'm gonna live forever if the good die young." But with more #1 hits than Glen Campbell, Ernest Tubb, and a host of other legends, Lawrence has already attained his own brand of longevity. --Ted Drozdowski
Album Description
There are 17 songs in this hits collection. I re-recorded 14 of my past hits, included the original version of "Paint Me A Birmingham," and recorded two brand new songs. In making this record, I got the chance to study myself as a vocalist and as a person. I listened to what I did with "Sticks And Stones" all the way through what I did with "Paint Me A Birmingham." It was pretty educational to go back through 14 years of my life and pick myself apart. I learned a lot about myself.
We were intent on recapturing the magic for this CD. I wanted the cuts to be as close sonically to the original recordings as we could make them. We matched tempos, snare sounds and guitar licks--everything. I even sang along with the originals to try to get my phrasing as close as possible. We did all that we could, short of stepping back in time, to get as close to reliving the moments those records were recorded.
We worked with a lot of the same players that played on my original recordings. We talked about the studios we played in. We cut up and reminisced about all of the good times on the road during those years. We talked about the path my music had traveled with different producers. I could hear my growth and I could hear the strain in my voice during the times when there was pain in my life. It brought it all back to life for me. In a lot of ways I found the whole process healthy and therapeutic.

I really think this is the best cd I've ever bought. Every single song on the cd is amazing. This is definitely an excellent purchase.
Wow.......2007-04-04
What can be said about this album? It is WONDERFUL!!!!! I've been a fan of his for 16 years and will be one for many more years to come. His songs are great and his live shows are FANTASTIC!!! He makes you feel like a friend during his shows. His music is terrific!!!!!!!
This CD is the Best!!!.......2007-03-11
Six months ago I didn't even know who Tracy Lawrence was, and I kept hearing one of his songs on the radio and finally through much effort searched him out and bought this CD. It is my favorite! I have listened to it to and from work every day since I bought it (four months ago). I love all of the songs.
Great CD, A re-recording notice woulda been nice though........2006-06-05
I have to give this CD 3 stars only because there was no notice anywhere on the CD cover mentioning that this CD contains new recordings of his old songs instead of being a true "Greatest Hits" collection CD. In fact, the sticker on the cover leads you to believe otherwise. None-the-less, the recordings are extremely close to the originals and he does include the original "Paint Me A Birmingham" which makes it an ok buy.
#1 Hits.......2005-12-18
Whether its #1 hits from the past or present, Tracy Lawrence's new c.d. "Then and Now: The Hits Collection" is one c.d. that everyone will want to have. What a thrill it is to enjoy Tracy's hits from before, and his new #1 hits!!! Not only will you enjoy listening to the c.d. over and over again, you will find yourself having a blast from the past-----and future!!!!
So, don't be left out, and pick up the new c.d. everyone is talking about!!! Enjoy!!!!

An early stage of fresh album.......2007-07-02
I listened to the music of Carpenters in various ways, but a quality of them appears this CD most.
Unfortunately there is not sound quality of recording despite best.
However, Carpenters must be DUO superior in U.S.A.
Bought this for one song. They played it........2007-05-13
Forgot how bad they were for the most part.
Still Blossoming But With A Hiccup Or Two...........2007-01-25
After the phenomenal success of "A Song For You," which was still burning bright into 1973, the Carpenters had to come up with something new. The previous years had seen a sudden 'revival' of oldies, partly an outgrowth of the infamous Ricky Nelson "Garden Party" incident. Doing their part, the Carpenters made their contribution on both sides of this classic LP.
I note a number of five star reviews, and I considered doing that myself. The reason I didn't can be summed up in two words: opening song. The opening song of a recording sets the stage - at least on a well-done album - for all that is to follow. The Carpenters opt for another Leon Russell tune to open the album but, unfortunately, "This Masquerade" - while a good song and done in fabulous Carpenter fashion - is just not the kind of tune to open an album. It segues into a number three hit, "Sing," from the TV show "Sesame Street" - the source of countless number one songs like "It's Not Easy Being Green."
We then get the first taste of Carpenter greatness with an abbreviated version of "Yesterday Once More" - and by abbreviated, I mean only the first verse and the closing chorus. Following the successful pattern of "A Song for You," we get another Richard Carpenter instrumental, "Heather."
The upbeat "Jambalaya" is another remake, this of a 1952 Hank Williams classic. But the Carpenters make it their own with a great performance capped by the traditional Carpenter overdub sound. "I Can't Make Music," a melancholy melody by Randy Edelman closes out the first side. Karen's vocal carries it well.
The second side is an ode to the oldies. Starting with Richard's new composition, "Yesterday Once More," the Carpenters go on a twenty minute tear of rock 'n' roll classics. They start with "Fun, Fun, Fun" by the Beach Boys and are interrupted by a 'hip' DJ (Tony Peluso, author of the "Goodbye To Love" guitar riff). It segues into "The End of the World," the Skeeter Davis Classic. Following are "Da Doo Ron Ron" (Crystals), "Dead Man's Curve" (Jan and Dean), "Johnny Angel" (Shelley Fabares), "The Night Has A Thousand Eyes" (Bobby Vee), "Our Day Will Come" (Ruby and the Romantics" and close out with a rapid fire acceptable version of "One Fine Day" (Chiffons). Interspersed are the DJ interacting with his audience including a 'Guess The Golden Goodies Group Contest.' The caller, Mark Rudolph, gets it wrong and the DJ mocks him.
The second side is, in its own way, a classic. Rather than a note-for-note remake of these songs, the Carpenters put their stamp on some of the classics and all of the versions are more than acceptable. Indeed, they make the album a must hear classic for all Carpenter fans.
The cover art is also, in my view, the best of all the Carpenter albums. You probably can't see it on the screen, but Richard is in the driver's seat and Karen in the passenger side.
Two smash hits and an entire side of Carpenter versions of classics? What are you waiting for? Get it today.
Short, but sweet.......2006-06-12
This is one of Carpenters' better albums, I think. It's true that there's not much of it (The first half includes five whole songs, one of which is an instrumental, the second is, apart from 'Yesterday Once More', entirely composed of a hits medley), but what is here is loads of fun. Of all their albums, with the possible exception of Passage and A Kind of Hush (I know many will disagree with me about those), I think this is the most fun to listen to.
On the first half, there is the hit 'Sing', which may not be the greatest song, but it was a hit for a reason; it's very listenable. Then there is their sultry, jazzy version of 'This Masquerade', which is lovely, and predicts the direction their music will take by the end of the decade. The aforementioned instrumental, 'Heather', might be taken for filler, but it's actually very good. The upbeat 'Jambalaya (On The Bayou)', which was a hit in the U. K. and the Netherlands, is another fun, feel-good song, in true Carpenters fashion, themed around a celebration in the Deep South. 'I Can't Make Music' is a very good song about disappointment and lonliness. Then, there is the mostalgic mega-hit 'Yesterday Once More', which is beautiful, and bookends a medley of classics from the early 60s, including the Beach Boys' 'Fun, Fun, Fun', the Crystals' 'Da Doo Ron Ron', and the Chiffons' 'One Fine Day'. I think it works well, and it's great to hear those songs in the Carpenters' sound. For those who have suggested the existance and length of the medley imply that they were short on things to record, I'm pretty sure the medley was intended from the beginning. My only regret about it is that it is just that, a medley. It would be great to her them do the songs in their entirity, and maybe a few others ('Be My Baby', 'Up On The Roof', for example).
All in all, this is a good album for anyone interested in Carpenters. Good songs, great singing by Karen (Particularly on 'This Masquerade', 'I Can't Make Music', and 'Yesterday Once More'), and lovely backup arranged by Richard. However, be warned that the tone is pretty light and upbeat throughout the album, and if you're into slow, serious ballads, I'd check out Horizon or A Song For You, instead.
Great Remake of Classics.......2006-03-29
This is a fantastic Carpenters album....My favorite track is "Yesterday Once More"....Shhhaaa La La La...A Carpenter classic!....Also like "Sing"...its great song and Karen sings it very well ...Yesterday Once More and Sing were the only two singles released from the album and they both charted at #2 on Billboard Singles.....Other highlights from the album include..The End Of The World,Johnny Angel, and One Fine Day....Make sure you pick a copy of this up today and as well as the rest of the Carpenters classic albums.

Rogers song My Land is Kenya.......2007-06-02
I saw a live Roger Wittaker on tv a few years ago and they played the song "My Land is Kenya". I have all of Roger Whittakers music, but I was never able to find this song on any album or CD until now. If you love Roger Whittakers music then you must hear this song. I found it on a DVD tape at a garage sale last year and the tape was "Roger Whittaker in Kenya" made by Sony. A video of Kenya plays while Roger sings this song. It with out a doubt is one of the most moving things he has ever done not to mention the beauty of the song. Treat yourself to something special. John Garner Roseville, Ca.

Born in Kenya of English parents in 1936, Roger spent his childhood in Kenya before moving to South Africa in 1956, later moving to Britain in 1959. He didn't originally plan a musical career but gradually drifted into one, or so it seems. Success was slow to come Roger's first significant success came in 1967 with Mexican whistler, which was a huge hit in several European countries but failed to chart in Britain. His popularity spread to Australia and Canada before he finally had a top twenty UK hit with Durham town at the end of 1969. In the following year, Roger made the UK top ten with I don't believe in if anymore. A UK top twenty hit, New world in the morning, came later that year. Two minor hits (Why, Mammy blue) followed in 1971, after which the hits dried up - for a while.
In 1975, Roger had his most successful hit when Last farewell made number two in the UK and also made the top twenty in America. Elvis Presley later covered the song. Despite making further excellent records such as River lady and First hello last goodbye, Roger again disappeared from the British charts. He returned just once more, when a duet with Des O'Connor (Skye boat song) just made the UK top ten in 1986.
Seven UK hits hardly does justice to Roger's illustrious career, in which he has sold many millions of albums around the world, but this collection contains all those songs, plus the others I've mentioned and some other great songs including two new ones specially recorded for this compilation, which provides a great introduction to Roger's music.
Remakes Remakes.......2005-05-11
I am disappointed with this album, because though I thought it was a re-mastered version of his original hits, my four favorite songs - Last Farewell, Durham Town, I Don't Believe In IF Anymore, and Mon Pays Bleu are all inferior remakes.
Greatest Hits and Then Some.......2005-01-17
If you are a true RW fan, you will love this album; not only because all his greatest charting hits are present, but because a few gems from hard-to-find recordings have made their way onto the album. Sure, all the best are here: "Durham Town," "Mammy Blue," "New World in the Morning," etc., but the strength of the album lies in the pleasant surprise tracks: "I'm Back," a selection from the 1970s Kenya concept album that doubles as an announcement that Roger's short-lived retirement is over; "The Other Side," a complex and moving song about death and heaven that Roger wrote after his father was murdered; and "The Best I Can," from his "Celebration" album, written for Roger's 30th year in the music business. This album contains a generous 22 tracks, the final two tracks being two of the best cuts from his newest album, "Moments in My Life." "Jenny" is a catchy tune that I can't stop singing and is a translation of the German version, while "Feather On The Wind" is the story of a man whose feet are made to roam. This album truly spans the years, and is a great addition to anyone with an RW collection.

Customer Reviews:
A musical treasure-box.......2006-09-10
Both the music and this actual product are masterpieces. John Dowland's collected works here - covering 12 compact discs - exhibit the depth and power of this composer, a composer who many now regard as suffering from clinical depression. I doubt that the issue of the diagnosis of Dowland's depression can ever be settled, however, it is certainly obvious from his music, so completely on display here, that he was a man with very dark depths and corners in his mind. Dowland's various manifestations and "takes" on his own tune, "Flow my tears"/"Lachrimae" are here. This tune has haunted me ever since I first heard it when I was a child. It seems to sum up Dowland's feelings - at least Dowland seems to have thought so.
The First, Second, Third and Fourth Bookes of Songes, A Musicall Banquet, the keyboard transcriptions, all the lute music, consort music are here and virtually everything else written or supposedly written by John Dowland. Anthony Rooley and The Consort of Musicke perform this music with style and feeling throughout. This 12 CD set is something of a monument to the ensemble - I only wish they'd finished their collection of Monteverdi madrigals, which was equally good (La Venexiana are currently doing a magnificent job of recording all Monteverdi's books of madrigals for the GLOSSA label).
This is an expensive set, however, you will probably never need to buy another John Dowland CD again after buying and listening to this collection.
I bought this CD set on a mild Summer evening of 1998 and listened to it while sitting in my sun room - which a glorious orange sunset in progress, and a glass of wine. It brought back so many memories.
a beautiful journey into melancholy.......2001-06-15
I'm amazed at how many people tend to associate John Dowland's music with a tragic sense of drama. While no doubt this is art highly based on sadness, the "tragic" sense of it is more a legacy from the Romantic period. During the Renaissance, however, sadness was undestood as a very aesthetic way of approaching life. That is also the reason why Shakespeare's tragedies appear more sophisticated than his comedies.
Dowland, a contemporary of Shakespeare, discovered that meditating on a sad theme is, at the same time, a way of discovering a special beauty that we tend to avoid (maybe because of the "tragic" heritage of the Romantics). So, in the end, meditating on sadness is an uplifting experience! This box set is a journey into melancholy that includes songs, chamber music, pieces for lute, some rare sacred music and -as a highlight- Dowland's beautiful collection of seven pieces for viola which he called "Lachrimae" (Tears).

Customer Reviews:
What an incredible discovery!.......2007-07-10
Where have I been? This CD has been out for 3 or 4 years, but I just recently discovered Andy. This disc is amazing, top to bottom. What a fantastic player and composer.
Get this one before Resolution. It's the better of the two, IMHO. "Super 70's" instantly made it to my 'Top 100 of all time' playlist on my iPod.
If you like guitar albums (Satriani, Vai, etc.), this is a no-brainer.
Peak performance.......2007-03-09
What a tour de force, far better in every way than his most recent effort, which I already quit listening to except for the first two tracks. This one just delivers song after song, week after week, it's still in my tiny 6-CD rotation in the car, each song has depth, layers, virtuosity out the wazoo...just amazing. It's almost like he's playing with his heart, not just his head, not just showing chops and licks, but "making music", go figure. How rare is that?!
THAT WAS THEN THIS IS WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2007-03-06
I BOUGHT ANDY TIMMONS RESOLUTION CD A MONTH AGO,AFTER HEARING THAT I HAD TO ORDER THIS.WHAT A CD,THIS GUY IS A GUITAR LEGEND UP THERE WITH THE GREATS,VAI,SATCH,HALEN,MALMSTEEN,ECT.HIS PLAYING IS SO TONEFULL AND SO ROCKING HE HAS GOT TO BE ONE OF THE BEST ALL ROUND PLAYERS I HAVE HERD.
BUY THIS CD AND RESOLUTION AS FAST AS YOU CAN,YOU WILL ONLY BENEFIT FROM OWNING THEM.
Great stuff.......2007-02-28
Andy is probably one of the most underrated guitar players out there, next to say Joe Bonamassa. If you ever get the chance to see either live, get up close. This Cd has some great licks, and as always showcases Andy's masterful use of tone, particularly with his Strat. I believe it's Marshall amps with Mesa Boogie cabinets for those curious. He plays all styles. Get each of his Cd's and you'll hear some great hidden gems.
A fine example of musicality shining through virtuosity.......2006-02-07
An unfortunate consequence of playing fast licks and scales on the electric guitar is that emotion and feeling may be lost to mathematical pattern and technique. However, this does not have to be the case. You can play fast or slow with emotion, and how well you do it judges how good a guitarist you are (well, at least, to me).
Andy Timmons is an excellent example of a guitarist who can pull this off, and these songs demonstrate that pretty clearly.
That is pretty much all I have to say.

Customer Reviews:
Though it's admittedly kind of cheesy in spots, this is still a classic jam band album! You'll have lots of fun with it........2006-01-06
O.A.R. is kind of a cheesy jam band (their lyrics are usually pretty bad), but they still deliver some quality tunes. Every track here is fun to listen to, and in the end that's essentially the most important thing. What's great about this album, specifically, is that the production is great - everything is crystal clear even on a low-quality sound file. Marc Roberge also does a pretty good job with the vocals. Musically it's pretty standard jam band material, but every track is catchy with a great hook. If you love jam bands chances are you'll love O.A.R.'s "In Between Now & Then". "Hey Girl" and "James" are definitely GREAT tunes which definitely bumps it up to a "5" from a "4.5". All the pros definitely far outweigh what cons there are here (which aren't many). Highly recommended!
Highlights include:
the entire album!
Terrific.......2005-09-23
This album is terrific. The new "Hey Girl" version is soooo great. "Old Man Time" is also a good song. Basically, you'll like every song on this cd. I bought this album 1-2 years ago, when I realized that it came out, and I didn't have it. I'm a BIG O.A.R. fan. Mark's vocals in this are incredible. Anyone will like O.A.R. Jeez, I wish I could play Hey Girl on the acoustic guitar, since I'm a big fan, and I own a special Fender Telecaster that I want to sell because I want a Les Paul. If you possibly want to buy it, my e-mail is [...] My Telecaster isn't any normal black and white one.
You Can't Help But Like This Band!.......2005-04-23
The first song I ever heard by these guys was Right On Time actually on the radio driving to Maine. I then bought In Between Now & Then and was hooked. I then furthered my habit purchasing 34th & 8th, moving on to Any Time Now and Souls Aflame. This band has a solid and distinctly unique sound. I actually saw them tonight in concert in Kingston, PA and they are even more unbelievable live. A new song titled "5250" has an incredible melody to it. If you can put in one of their CDs and not have the urge to either sing along or at a minimum tap a finger or foot, you are melodically challenged.
Great Band.......2005-01-03
This was the first o.a.r. cd that I bought. It is a great CD, but if you want something incredible, get Any Time Now or another live recording. If you like them, you've really got to see them live, their live stuff is incredible.
More Addictive than Nicotine.......2004-08-21
I just love this band's sound. It gets trapped in your brain and leaves you wanting more and more...the rare times when I'm not listening to OAR, I'm humming their songs in my head. Beautiful. Timeless. Classic. Reminds me of old DMB meets old BNL (think Rock Spectacle) mixed with a touch of Sublime.

Old rock bands never die--or even fade away, for that matter. The unlikely, 21st-century resurgence of the Who may have begun as a typical baby-boomer cash-in tour, but it also spurred the band's first new recordings in 20 years. When the tragic death of John Entwistle overshadowed both projects, Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey stubbornly retrenched, forming what Townshend wryly called the Who's new "Everly Brothers format"; anyone aware of the historical tensions between Phil and Don couldn't miss the parallels with Roger and Pete's own long, turbulent relationship. Running the gamut from energetic early hits like "Happy Jack," "Magic Bus," and the now intensely ironic anthem "My Generation" to the briefest of highlights from their most fertile creative period (Tommy/Who's Next/Quadrophenia), this lavishly packaged and annotated greatest-hits set would seem entirely superfluous if not for the two new recordings that close it. Recorded at the end of 2003 with roots in a Townshend multimedia project called The Boy Who Heard Music, "Real Good Looking Boy" (featuring the bass work of Greg Lake, Zak Starkey on drums, and old cohort Rabbit Bundrick on keys) is a dramatic, stripped-down tribute to Elvis Presley whose energetic immediacy stands in stark contrast to the band's last, overly precious '80s recordings. Written on the Who's tragic 2002 tour and recorded in early '04, Townshend's "Old Red Wine" mines a similar musical vein and stands as the surviving Who duo's bittersweet tribute to fallen friend and bandmate Entwistle. --Jerry McCulley

Timeless Music.......2007-04-11
This is music that has been extended to other generations. And will be for years to come.
Then And Now.......2007-03-28
The Who-Then And Now ****
Back by popular demand reads the cover of The Who's latest collection album. While not the bands first carrer retrospective or greatest hits, but it is by far the bands best to date. A true greatest hits of the band is offered here in chronological order. All the way from the bands 1964 hit "I Can't Explain" through their new single realeased the year of this album (2004), "Real Good Looking Boy."
What you get here is a brief look into one of the all time greatest bands in the history of rock and roll. Really what The Who are is -the- rock and roll band. Classic through classic you get a glimpse into the songs that most people remember the songs that were large radio staples even to this day. While for the hardcore fan such as myself this does leave the mind to wonder where is "Join Together" and "Baba O' Riley" and then I realize while thoughs songs where played on the radio they were not released as singles so they could not be hits which automaticaly eleminates them from the compalation.
What is showcased here is Pete Townshends devolpement from a song writer into a composer. Pete Townshend's growth from a solid player into a full on guitar God, and musical genious. You hear the angst filled voice of a one Roger Daultry. The out of this world bass playing of Mr. Enthwistle, (the opening of "Pin-ball Wizard" is phenomonal). What you get is a look into the playing of the greatest drummer of all time, Keith Moon.
From `mod', to bonafied rock gods, this collection really shows what made The Who the legends they are today. The variety of song styles like "Love, Reign O'er Me" to "Won't Get Fooled Again" show why the who never grew old. "Who Are You?" shows just why the band has always been able to stay relevant without `selling out.'
Then And Now, and back by popular demand because rock and roll just isn't the same without bands like The Who, because they are one of those bands that you just have to turn up all the way because that is the only proper way to listen to rock and roll and The Who constantly reminds us of this and why, so thanks boys!
Not worth the two new songs.......2007-03-22
I own the Ultimate Who and it is hysterical because the track listing is identical minus the added songs on The Ultimate Who's 2 CD's. For a second there I almost thought I owned this CD too because it is sequenced exactly the same. You are better off purchasing the Ultimate Who set as it is far superior to this offering.
As for the two new tracks I am not entirely sure they justify the purchase of a redundant disc. Real Good Looking Boy is my personal favorite of the two. It's a song about Elvis Presley and I got to see them perform it live in Uncasville, CT. Old Red Wine is an ok track but somewhat forgettable.
If you have the means buy the Ultimate Who or any other major compilation and hit Itunes or something up for the other 2.
WHO do you think you're fooling?.......2007-02-18
THEN AND NOW: 1964-2004 is another of the many superfluous WHO collections to come down the pike in the past 20 years. So what if it contains two 21st Century post-Entwhistle mediocrities? Those songs are forgettable anyway.
Unless you're a completist, consider purchasing only: MEATY BEATY BIG AND BOUNCY, TOMMY and THE KIDS ARE ALRIGHT. That's enough WHO for anybody.
TOTAL PLAYING TIME -- 77:04
Good.......2007-01-30
This is a good album, forgot to put Baba O Riley on it. I'd rather get The Who: Ultimate Collection or Thirty Years of Maximum RB.
Buy if on a budget.

Be Careful.......2007-01-25
I was so excited to hear that he had a new CD come out that I didn't bother to pay attention to the fact that it is a release of two prior cd's that I already own. I was slightly dissapointed but have no one to blame but myself by not investigating it more. It is still wonderful music at any rate.
