Editorial Reviews
Jim Musser, July 2000
The sound is crisp and punchy with homeboy Bo Ramsey lending his guitar wizardry. This biscuit's a beauty.

Product Description
Vigorously colliding country, rock, folk, Americana and alt-country (with ominous, spaghetti-Western overtones), Kelly Pardekooper & The Devil's House Band have gelled with jaw-dropping rapidity. Kelly's concise, regional-specific original tunes are devoid of fancy or fakery - they ring true because they're drawn from Pardekooper's particular space and times, and the band makes them jump.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Great guitar driven music.......2002-07-11

Saw these guys do a great live set in Illinois and the disc is just as good. I've heard their other albums since then and have enjoyed each one. I just found their new website and new music at kellyp.net. Highly recommend to those looking for guitar driven new music and great lyrics. Always good to find a band whose recorded work is just as good as the live show.

5 out of 5 stars One of my top 5 albums.......2001-09-16

If you don't own this cd, buy it. If you haven't seen this band, go see them. After listening to the cd you'll understand how talented a group this is, but you have to see them live or you'll never believe how much energy they have on stage. If you haven't heard of this band you will soon.

5 out of 5 stars Slightly biased cus I'm from Iowa, but . . ........2001-08-08

This album is great! I originally bought it last year based on a newspaper review and to support local music. I thought it would be good, but wasn't expecting it to be one of my favorite CDs of the year! It hasn't left my CD player since last September. I have seen Kelly and his boys play several times opening for Bo Ramsey, Richard Buckner, Teddy Morgan and Greg Brown - he and the band definitely hold their own.

4 out of 5 stars If alt.country's your bag..........2001-07-25

...then this is an excellent, locally produced disc. Iowa City is one of the great unknown music scenes, home to the likes of Greg Brown and Bo Ramsey (who just produced Lucinda Williams' great new Essence) and Dave Moore. It's a regular haunt of Kevin Gordon and Teddy Morgan. And those names have all influenced -- in the best ways possible -- Kelly Pardekooper, a hard-working songwriter with a great band. The rhythms are never stale and the writing is crisp. You might sometimes wonder, like I did, who wrote what sounds like a Nashville classic. It's Pardekooper every time. Ramsey throws in some licks and what it adds up to is a fine debut. Lots of twang but plenty of punch, too.
