Shooter Jennings's 2005 debut, Put the "O" Back in Country, outlined the artistic differences--and similarities--between himself and his parents, Waylon Jennings and Jessi Colter. This second time out, his tight, raw trio bristling behind him, his vocal roar remains less weathered, though he deliberately, momentarily evokes Waylon on "Some Rowdy Women," the darkly futile "Hair of the Dog," and "Little White Lines," a fearful, foreboding tale of cocaine abuse. His reflective, vulnerable side emerges on the sorrowful "The Song Is Slipping Away" and the painfully contrite ballad "Aviators." Sly humor drives a revival of Hank Williams Jr.'s "Living Proof" that begins by paying homage to the original, luring the listener into momentarily believing that Jennings, too, is desperate to free himself from a famous daddy's shadow. It is, of course, a brilliant fake-out. Near the song's end, he and the band flip right into the famous instrumental vamp Waylon used on so many of his hits, a wise-assed move worthy of Waylon himself. --Rich Kienzle

Eletric Rodeo= Garbage
Do not waste your time buying this CD
If you wanna hear Real Country go and listen to Wayne"The Train"Hancock, Hank III & JB Beverley & The Wayward Drifters!!
Shooter is just riding on his daddys coat tail!!

5 out of 5 stars GO SHOOTER!.......2006-12-07

Shooter is just the best! Every review that said the good music is on the road and not in Nashville is so true! I saw Tim and Faith this past summer and it was a let down. Shooter is so much more a real muscian and talent. Good country / southern rock is alive and well with Shooter Jennings. I first heard these songs last New Year's Eve when I saw him in concert. I got the album on release day. It is the best. It reminds me of the music I grew up with--Lynyrd Skynyrd, Willie, Waylon, with some old classic rock. You will not be disappointed if you are a southern rock/real country music fan! Go see him in concert too! The best!

4 out of 5 stars Refreshing.......2006-11-21

If you like country music but you think yer gonna puke everytime you have to suffer through a "country" song from Nashville these days, and you happen to like classic rock, you would probably appreciate what Shooter's trying to do here. Folks, this is the Real Deal. I don't mean real country or real rock - this is a hybrid - I mean he's making music that is honest and down to earth. A flash in the pan, he's not. He's going to be around for awhile.

4 out of 5 stars Shooter does it again.......2006-11-05

This album has it all: *actual* country music, a couple of rockers and humour (Aviator). The music that's on here puts mainstream country radio to shame. See Shooter live if you get a chance. You won't be disappointed.

4 out of 5 stars Shooter - Back in the Saddle........2006-08-06

Shooter is back and still riding high. This CD is a pretty good CD. I love the southern rock style Shooter brings to the table.
My favorite song on this CD is Hair of the Dog. There are alot of other songs that come off here good as well but in the end I think this disc falls a hair short of his first master piece. Keep up the hard work Shooter and keep on keepin' on.

Fans of Willy Porter, Ben Harper, and G. Love will all want to check out Jack Johnson's engaging folk- and blues-inflected pop. Born in Oahu, Hawaii, Johnson, a former surfer and film-school graduate, has a knack for acoustic ballads whose calm surfaces hide a subtle but strong lyrical undertow. "It seems to me that 'maybe' pretty much always means 'no,'" sings Johnson on "Flake," which features crony Harper on slide guitar. Production by J.P. Plunier (who also handles Harper's recordings) is simple and uncluttered: acoustic guitar and drum tracks share the foreground with Johnson's easygoing vocals, which evoke everyone from G. Love (who recorded Johnson's "Rodeo Clowns" on his Philadelphonic album) to Nick Drake to Willy Porter. And while Johnson may not have Porter's guitar chops, these songs have a relaxed beauty and understated depth that reward repeated listening. --Bill Forman

For me, that's plenty nuff said, right there!
I don't get blindsided like I did when I caught his act somewhere in the music and was left to wonder "What and Who was THAT?..WoW" Same thing happened during the last membership drive for OPB...caught a snippet...then my dtr in law sent me his album. I thought, Who the heck's Jack Johnson? Now I know. It put the name to the music that haunted me and oh boy is he something else. Fabulous. I think I could probably be happy as a big ol fat mud hen, just to take this CD and maybe a Macy Gray and some Shawn Mullins...and go to that proverbial deserted island, a happy camper. Food?...Well at least my soul would be well fed. I've had a Dave Koz CD in the car's player for 2 yrs. It will finally get to come in the house for a well-deserved rest, while this one goes traveling for a while! The back-up for his vocals are totally outstanding. Nobody can say that I "don't know Jack", anymore; that's for sure! Looking for a new and totally addictive, musical high?....Here 'tis! A beautiful baker's dozen.

Jack Johnson is smooth and the tunes are catchy and stay in your head.

4 out of 5 stars Rythmic souds.......2007-01-25

More laid back that his "in between dreams" album. Great soothing voice. song lyrics vary from topic to topic. Awesome driving music. The song "Bubble Toes" make me want to dance everytime I listen to it!

5 out of 5 stars Jack Johnson is awesome.......2007-01-15

I started listening to Jack Johnson when his Between Dreams CD came out. Who knew this gem was just waiting to be discovered?

4 out of 5 stars Adore him.......2007-01-11

I heard him do an interview on the radio and I fell in love with his music. Hunting down all his CDs :).

5 out of 5 stars Country at it's best!.......2004-09-13

Look out country listeners cause Lee's going to be huge!! Harking the American sound, but with a distinct Aussie style, Lee has crafted a brilliant album of songs that you can listen over and over again without tiring!...

If you have never heard of Lee PLEASE try him out and you will be very suprised!!

5 out of 5 stars The best country artist I've heard in 20 years.......2004-04-18

I have the one-CD "Electric Rodeo 2" and can't stop listening to it. Kernaghan is phenomenal as a singer and songwriter. His music is a breath of fresh air. You can't get any better!

In his voice, I hear a little Merle Haggard, a little John Anderson and a little Slim Dusty, yet a true original. I could kick myself for not getting every CD he's made since 1992 when I was in Australia. The USA should embrace his music and incredible talent -- he should be as big here in the US as he is down under.

Trying to find his CDs in the US is difficult at best. If you country radio types out there are looking for a rare talent, get Kernaghan's CDs and play them - often. As far as other Aussie stars who have had success in the US, like Keith Urban, Kernaghan blows him out the the water without any effort at all.

Even though there are a lot of references to Australia's outback, drovers, and strange-sounding town names, I can't say when I've been so excited about another country artist. His music has renewed my sprit. He is distinctive, poetic, sensitive to social issues in such songs as "In My Next Life", yet also does justice to honky-tonk songs like "Boys from Bathurst". "Spirit of the High Country" is a rousing song that is one of my favorites. In a wonderful duet with Catherine Britt, "Love Hurts" is just good country. She reminds me a little of Dolly Parton.

In some reviews, Kernagahn is compared as an Australian Garth Brooks but I think he's 100 times better. That's because Nashville country all sounds alike -- same studio musicians -- same licks, same sound. He's an original with a distinctive sound that epitomizes Lee Kernaghan.

I'm now looking high and wide for any way I can get a complete collection of his CDs and would like to see him in concert some day. It's tough when your new favorite country artist is on the other side of the world!
