Elvis - A tribute to the King.......2004-03-25
This tribute exceeds any type of rating. Ronnie McDowell does a super super job. I can listen to him all day. One of his best. It is hard to tell whether it is Elvis singing or Ronnie singing. Way to go Ronnie!
Greatest ever tribute to the King.......2001-12-02
Ronnie McDowell has long been associated with the music of Elvis Presley, having been employed as Elvis' singing voice in several films and television shows. McDowell also enjoys a successful career in his own right, with country hits spanning from the 70s to the early 90s. In 1997 he recorded this 20 track Elvis tribute in his usual tasteful and exciting style. What makes the project extra special is the musical backing provided by Elvis' original guitarist (Scotty Moore), drummer (DJ Fontana) and vocal backing by the fabulous Jordanaires. Standout tracks include One Broken Heart For Sale, with a slightly reworked vocal line to the original, plus fantastic, rockin' versions of Got A Lot O'Livin' To Do, Lawdy Miss Clawdy and King Creole. It's also a delight to hear Ronnie cover ballads including Love Me, It Hurts Me - one of Elvis' most under-rated songs - and Crying In The Chapel. The album closes with the only original song, Tupelo's Too Far, which illustrates Ronnie's individual talent. Forget the majority of bloated Elvis impersonators who embarrass themselves and the memory of the legend. Ronnie McDowell's tribute to his hero is faultless and should encourage the listener to buy Ronnie's own CDs which maintain the quality of this release.
Tribute to the King Ronnie McDowell.......2000-03-21
I think this man has more talent in his little pinky than most of the artist you hear over and over on the radio 20 times a day! I know I speak for MOST Americans out there, when I say I wish they would give us more variety to listen to over the radio, and play some of the older artists too! They are still just as popular and talented today, and I wish we heard more of them! I GIVE THIS ALBUM, ALONG WITH OTHERS OF RONNIE'S 2 THUMBS UP! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK, WE LOVE YOU!

what better way to let Elvis fans know after 20 years that Ronnie McDowell is still his biggest fan. These songs prove that. Mostly Elvis songs with the Ronnie touch.. and yet after 20 long years one can still hear echos of Elvis. The additon of Tupelo's Too Far closes the tribute...well done Ronnie and thank you once again for bringing us Scotty Moore's "nostalgic" fantastic talent. :)

KEITH STILL HAS A LOCK ON OUR HEARTS.......2003-01-06
Everything old is new again. Or perhaps that's what the marketing big-wigs at RCA were thinking when they decided that latest CD by Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops Orchestra should simply be a "greatest hits" package -- selections culled from Lockhart's five previously released CDs. It's a gimmick that works, since those tracks chosen are truly the best of the best: "Riverdance" and "Magh Scola" from the Grammy-nominated "The Celtic Album;" "Sleigh Ride" and "Farandole" from "Holiday Pops;" "The Stars and Stripes Forever" from "A Splash of Pops." To add a bit of freshness, the closes with "Long Live the King!" a medley of Presley tunes recorded love at Boston's Symphony Hall for a PBS special. No wonder he can't help falling in love -- once again -- with the man who keeps a lock on our hearts.
The Boston Pops at Their Best!!.......2001-07-14
This has got to be the best orchestral CD I have ever purchased! My intent for buying the CD was not because of the Pops themselves (I wasn't very familiar with them or Keith Lockhart at the time), but my orchestra had played two of the songs on the CD so I thought it would have been neat to have a professional recording of them. A couple months later, here I am, I know how each one of the songs go, it never leaves my CD player unless I go somewhere (it goes too) and let me tell you Mr. Lockhart is a hottie- whether he knows it or not! Only because of this Cd, (and watching Pops Goes the Fourth) I have bought every other Boston Pops CD conducted by Keith Lockhart. They are outstanding musicians and this is the best "greatest hits so far" CD. It has pretty much 2 songs from each past CD- Tracks 1 and 4 from Runnin' Wild; Tracks 2 and 5 from The Celtic Album; Tracks 3 and 8 from American Visions; Tracks 6 and 9 from Holiday Pops; and tracks 7 and 10 from A Splash of Pops. Track 11 is Keith's introduction to Long Live the King and Track 12 is, obviously, Long Live the King-A Tribute to Elvis which has never been released before. And it's pretty sad I knew all of that without having to look at the CD case, huh? That just shows you how well put together this CD is, with a mix of everything for everyone. From the slow, beautiful "Magh Scola" ("The Level Plain") to "American Patrol" back to "A Hymn to New England" (written by former Boston Pops conductor and composer to just about every famous movie their is John Williams) and of course, their trademark "Stars and Stripes Forever", this CD is perfect for anyone with a love of classical music, or the Boston Pops Orchestra. And their tuba player better watch out- I am definetly going to replace him soon :)
The Best of the Best.......2000-07-26
Keith Lockhart does it again. All of America's favorites on one album plus a tribute to the King. It goes to show what a wonderful and masterful conductor Keith is and what a great orchestra the BSO is. Their finest album with Keith thus far. He truly is one of the best conductors in the business. I highly recommend this to everyone who loves the spirit of the Pops. It's superb all around.
Best of the Boston Pops.......2000-06-25
This is a wonderful repertoire of the kind of music played by the Boston Pop. It's for all ages. If anyone wants one CD that is representative of the Boston Pop Orchestra, this is it! Kudos to Keith Lockhart for including a medley by the King. This is my favorite Boston Pop CD next to "Runnin Wild" and the "Holiday at PoPs".
6th CD!.......2000-04-25
I went home this weekend and look what I picked up! The 6th ablum by Mr. Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops! Great CD, love the music selections that Keith made to put in this one and I loved the Long Live the King! A Slaute to Elvis. You haven't heard anything until you have heard a full orchestra play Elvis Presley music. Number six, and it was great! My favorite piece is DoddleTOWN Fifers, or whatever it is called. The MCV (Middlesex County Vouleenters) are great, and I'm not just saying that because I know Earl, the Music Master for the group, they are good.

I've had this CD since it was released and, later, tried
to buy for friends but it's very difficult to find. Every
artist on this CD gives an exceptional performance
but my favorite was Marty Pello from Wet Wet Wet. He was
just awesome. This was a live performance that was broadcast
on TV. Would love to see a DVD released.
Pop, rock and country stars sing Elvis songs.......2005-07-05
This tribute album has some similarities with the Honeymoon in Vegas soundtrack, which also featured pop, rock and country stars paying tribute to Elvis, but this collection is not as strong overall. Nevertheless, there is some great music here.
Among the performances by country stars, Travis Tritt (Lawdy Miss Clawdy) and Dwight Yoakam (Mystery Train) both turn in rousing performances as expected but some of you may be surprised at the fine performance by Faith Hill (Trying to get to you). Faith has her critics but shows here that, given the right song and the right production, she is brilliant Of the other country recordings, my favorites are Don't be cruel (Marty Stuart) and Let me be your teddy bear (Tanya Tucker).
Highlights among the pop and rock performances include Aaron Neville (a soulful version of Young and beautiful), Chris Isaak (Blue moon), Bryan Adams (Hound dog) and Wet wet wet (It's now or never).
If you only want one Elvis tribute album, I recommend Honeymoon in Vegas. If you enjoy that and want more, this is worthy of consideration.

Customer Reviews:
Great Music, Great artists!.......2007-05-10
I was lucky enough to attend this historic concert at the Royal Albert Hall in London and it was an amazing night of music I will never forget. This was an very interesting variety of mainly British artists who performed these Bacharach/David songs with style and enthusiasm. The standout performances were Petula Clark (wish she would have recorded even more Bacharach/David songs on her albums), Elvis Costello, Dionne Warwick (what Bacharach/David tribute is complete without her), Paul Carrack, and Brian Conley (a big West End and UK TV star), and Brian Kennedy (discovered by Van Morrison and the vocalist for Riverdance on Broadway). A must for fans of Bacharach/David songs.
A Jolly Goodtime..........2006-05-21
This live London, Royal Albert Hall, June 2000 concert tribute recording is not the conventional type. It is comprised mostly of Brits performing uncharacteristcally various Bacharach-David selections. Petula Clark, Dionne Warwick, and Burt Bacharach himself are the anchor for the program. Elvis Costello gives a sensitive take on " I Just Don't No What To Do With Myself" that underated song of heartbreak after a break up. Irish singer Brian Kennedy does a good low key job on the supportive ballad "Reach Out For Me" As much as Yazz tries she can't match Dionne Warwick with "Do You Know The Way to San Jose" a few tracks down the disc. A couple of the interpretors weren't even born when Burt was in his hay day. This kind of makes it interesting for the overall rating of this CD. British TV star Brian Conley does a luke-warm version(when compared to Tom Jones)on "Whats New Pussycat?". He fares better on "24 Hours to Tulsa"! When your not totally familiar with the performers on such an album of American Pop classics; the whole can be compared to just nicely done karaoke. The anonymous recording is first rate. Minimal audience noise. Some brief but helpful notes on the performers are included.
Hit or miss collection.......2003-04-21
This live album recorded at the Royal Albert Hall in London gathers a large group of performers to celebrate the amazing Bacharach and David catalog. With the mix of artists, the results vary wildly, but when it's good, it's very good. High points include the incomparable Irish singer Brian Kennedy, who creates an absolutely shimmering version of "Reach Out For Me;" soul singer Paul Carrack, bourbon smooth on "This Guy's in Love With You;" and Petula Clark, who lends a distinct theatricality to three cuts here. Those three artists do outstanding work, making the cuts sound like their own rather than trying to copy the original vocals.
Some of the other tracks just lie there, including two by Brian Conley (he sounds like a third-rate Tom Jones) and Kenny Lynch, who just can't swing on "Wives and Lovers." Even Dionne Warwick, who gets three cuts here, doesn't seem to be in particularly good voice. The overall result is uneven -- there are better Bacharach compilations out there -- but this disc does have its moments.

Customer Reviews:
Surprisingly good !.......2004-03-17
Just got a copy of this in the post today - and it`s rather good!
It`s not the muzak-fest I was expecting ( and might have enjoyed!) - it`s a country record , really , with a chap named Patrik Tanner doing a confident , T-Bone Burnett type vocal over some nifty steel guitar , some cracking guitar and - maybe synthesised - vibes and harmonica.
The song selection is not as stated elsewhere.
It`s the following
1. Watching The Detectives
2. Different Finger
3. Uncomplicated
4.Alison
5.5ive Gears In Reverse
6.Red shoes
7.Peace In Our Time
8.Hurry Down Doomsday
9.Mystery Dance
10.Everyday I Write The Book
Peace.... sounds great , with a neat guitar coda far preferable to the awful keyboard affect that finishes Elvis`studio recording. Doomsday.. is funny in that Tanner`s vocals are echoed for the same lines as Elvis`s take. Everyday... is clearly modeled on Elvis`country version ( Tanner clearly is a fan - the vocals do not sound some session guy who`s only hearing them for the first time) , with tasty vibes and harmonica.
Different Finger always was a country song and sounds great here.
All in all a refreshing take on some old favourites.

Customer Reviews:
Quality CD.......2001-01-07
Slim Jim can do no wrong in my eyes, but this is a great album. The boys have taken each of these songs and given them a touch of individuality. Super Rockabilly mixed with swing and even some heavy metal. Really entertaining, and gets played over and over again in my household.
AMAZING TRIBUTE TO THE KING.......2000-03-15
This collection of Elvis songs is amazing, entertaining and a lot of fun. Where else can you hear Lemmy from Motorhead singing Good Rockin' Tonight with Johnny Ramone blasting out his signature "distorted" guitar power chords behind him only too be followed on the next track with Lemmy singing in a bluesy, quiet, voice with just a simple acoustic guitar, bass and snare backing track? Every song on this CD has a personality of its own and hearing all these great artists playing the songs that first inspired them to be musicians in the first place is a real joy and very enlightening. Since I bought this CD over a week ago I've been playing it constantly. This is one of those rare CD's that sound great on first listen but still actually gets better each additional time you hear it again. I know I've turned a lot people onto this CD by playing it all day long at work. Special Note: Kathy Valentine, bassist from THE GO-GO's, does an incredible guitar solo on Crawfish!
A Big Dissapointment.......2000-03-07
I have never been more dissapointed with CD like this one. Many if not all of these voices do not fit with the music. Thats a first no-no. The second thing is the style this music is played in. Elvis had a traditional style of music that was proportionate to the era it was being introduced. It should stay that way. Experiments like these should be left in the garage, I mean what's with the super heavy distortion on the guitar? It doesn't fit. Third, Lenny Kilmister, Michael Desbarres, and Jamie James voices do not justify Elviss'voice at all. They were I'm sorry to say "horrible". Let's respect what Bing Crosby thought was amazing voice. This album would have been better and a better use of Slim Jims' time without these three guys and the heavily distorted guitar. I definitely would not call this a tribute to the great Elvis Presley.
