    Yes he has the SAD songs, but he tells them like NO OTHER! and the positive side to listening to Red is; No matter how bad we may have it, there is always somebody worse off! So really his great music tells us to be greatfull for what we have. He is a Legend and always a top with me. I have had 7 LPs from the 70's and still got them today!!!

    My dad and I used to listen to this tape when I was really young on the weekends when he was back from driving those 18-wheelers. Listening to Daddy's Girl, Giddy-Up-Go, and Teddy Bear with him is one of my earliest memories. When I accedently recoreded over the tape he was furious, and I am so glad that I could find this CD for him because it has some very touching memories for him and for me.

    I grew up listening to these songs on this album whenever I visted my grandparents. As an adult, I have continually tried to find the Teddy Bear song on CD for my Grandmother. When I finally did, and gave her this album she cried, and I cried. We sat down and listened to it over and over again remembering days gone by. I am so happy that Amazon provides this service, of being able to find older and different music.

    Or more than a touch, really. For anyone who's ever driven tractor trailer, for anyone who has had family that's driven tractor trailer -- even if you know no-one who's driven those eighteen wheelers, you can find something worth listening to with Red Sovine.

    While he probably is best known for his touching trucker-songs - like Giddy-Up-Go or Teddy Bear, perhaps - he touches on other subject-matter as well. In short, if you're looking for something to touch your heart and possibly bring a tear to your eye, Red's some of the best anyone could ask for. Granted, keep in mind that he isn't strictly that, but that's him at his best.

    Even before his first hits (including two duets with Webb Pierce) in the mid-'50s on Decca, Red Sovine, who later discovered Charley Pride, was a master honky-tonker and one of the last remaining exponents of the dying art of spoken recitation. After hitting his stride with Nashville-based Starday Records in 1965 with "Giddyup Go," he joined Dave Dudley and Dick Curless at the top of the then-vibrant trucker-music market. He applied his storytelling skills to the trucker tunes "Phantom 309" and the sentimental, million-selling 1976 CB-themed recitation "Teddy Bear." But Sovine also had a powerful baritone he applied to a variety of other songs, among them Eric Clapton's "Lay Down Sally" and Dudley's "Truck Drivin' Son of a Gun." The value of his cover of Walter Brennan's insipid hit recitation "Old Rivers" may be debatable. This collection also omits a few lesser-known Sovine trucker gems like "Freight Liner Fever" and "Hitch Hiking Girl." It nonetheless stands as a respectable overview of his Starday years. --Rich Kienzle

    This Man has touched my life in so many ways through words and as a child when my grandfather was still with us Red was all he listened to. I remember with daddys girl we would put in grandpas girls and the smile on my grandfathers face was priceless i take this with me when i visit his grave and sit adn listen sing and cry. I lost my last cassette i had adn am having a very hard time finding one but believe me as soon as i do I will have it again. Kasei(springsteen) Otis

    I'm trying to locate a record (don't know title) where the Dad was always too busy to play ball or have time for the little boy when growing up, and then when the little boy became a man, HE was then too busy for the dad and it saddened the old man as it did the little boy when he begged for his dad's attention. I'd like to purchase that record if you could supply me with the name.

    I was a little girl when i herad red and i feel in love with his music. I remember sitting in my daddys lap and litsening to daddys girl together and i can still close my eyes and remember it like it was yesterday ,because his songs touched me in a way i will always remeber .     Red Sovine is without doubt one of the truly great old time entertainers. My grandfather actually played with Red Sovine once in Cincinnati at the Saturday night country jam and he said you never seen so many people laugh and cry at the same time. That was the magic of Red. You just can't go wrong with any of Red Sovine's music.
