Eddy Arnold's rich, mellifluous baritone and butter-smooth delivery made him one of the few singers able to cross effortlessly between pop and country during the 1950s and 1960s--and that versatility means this collection has something for everyone. Originally released in 1961, the album sees Eddy put his stamp on traditional religious carols like "O Little Town of Bethlehem," as well as spry secular seasonal songs such as "Jingle Bell Rock" and "Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town." And since he never forgot his roots in rural Tennessee, he puts a special spin on the touching "Will Santa Come to Shanty Town?" They just don't make them like Eddy Arnold anymore--and that's a cryin' shame. --David Sprague

Great Christmas Classics.......2007-01-10
From the start of the first song, it brings me back to my childhood Christmas. Must have Christmas CD!
Smooth and soothing Christmas music. Light the fireplace........2003-12-18
I just found this CD after having lost my LP back about 10 years ago. I couldn't be happier! This album was around from the late 50's to my early recollection. My father used to sing many of the songs from this and other Eddy Arnold music as far back as I can remember. But, the one I really missed was "C-H-R-I-S-T-M-A-S". I appreciate it even more now as an adult than I did as a child. This particular song has the meaning of Christmas tied up in one 2.28 minute message: C is for the Christ child, H for herald angels, R means our Redeemer, I means Israel, S is for the stars, T is for Three Wisemen, M is for the manger where He lay, A is for all He stands for, S means shepherds came.
Even though I heard "Will Santa Come to Shanty Town" on the same LP, it never confused the issue for me. There was room for the plea of a poor child to ask if he would be remembered too on that wonderful day. I could identify with him.
EA has another CD on which both of these songs can be found although it doesn't have just Christmas songs. It's called: "Eddy Arnold The Cattle Call". It has many of his older songs on it. Enjoy.
I want this CD!!!.......2002-12-29
I was so excited when I found that this album has actually been made onto CD. We wore this album out when I was growing up and, like some of the other reviewers, our tape is not going to last. My sister and I have been looking for the CD for years!!! It is by far our favorite Christmas music EVER!!! Eddy Arnold's songs are so heart warming and our holidays are just not the same without them. I hope that Christmas with Eddy Arnold is re-released so we can share it with our children. PLEASE - I NEED THIS CD!!!!!!
Wonderful Christmas Memories.......2002-11-26
I finally found the CD version of Christmas with Eddy Arnold after three years of searching! Evidently, the CD is very rare. This was one of those Christmas records I grew up on and it brings back such good holiday memories of my mom who passed away in 1993. I'm very excited to have it among my Christmas CD collection. I think RCA/BMG should re-release this album on CD. I'm sure there are many more people out there who would love to have this CD to add to their Christmas memories too.

Like most of the reviewers, this was among several Christmas records that we listened to when the season began just after Thanksgiving. We had music from R. Conniff, P. Faith, B. Kaempfert, A. Williams, D. Martin, A. Fiedler and more. However, my mother was particular fond of E. Arnold music and this album probably received the most air time. As she passed away a few years back, I have been collecting the holiday recordings that we listened to in CD form. Christmas was her favorite time of the year, and as I listen to the music that I have collected, it surely brings back the good memories my family had during the holiday's. This is the only recording I have yet to find and hope that someday we can see this in release so that all who are searching for it will be able to bring back their particular holiday memories with this music.

Christmas With Eddy "Average" Arnold.......2006-07-14
I'm not a huge country music fan but I love Christmas songs recorded in the 40's, 50's and 60's. Songs on this CD recorded 1960 and 1961. I like some of the less popular selections: "Christmas Can't Be Far Away," "Up On The Housetop," & "Jolly Old Saint Nicholas." Mixing some of these songs with other Christmas CDs wouldn't be so bad...but the tempo on every song is quite slow. Almost a bit depressing after 5 songs. If you're wanting to add to your "vintage Christmas collection," then buy this CD. Otherwise, I'd recommend Johnny Mathis, Perry Como or Al Martino.
