Cynical types will accuse Disney of milking the "greatest" concept until it's drier than Tinkerbell's fairy dust ("Supercalafragilisticexpealidocious," "Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Da," and "Heigh Ho" were hits off of Vol. 1; "Bare Necessities," "It's a Small World," and "Some Day My Prince Will Come" stole the show on Vol. 2), but a glimpse of this installment's track listing is all it'll take to squash their suspicions. Once again running reverse-chronologically, Vol. 3 opens with Jonatha Brooke's gorgeously achy ballad "I'll Try," from 2002's arguably not-so-great Return to Neverland, and gradually reaches back through the years to re-raise the curtain on Toy Story 2 ("When She Loved Me," performed by Sarah McLachlan), The Lion King ("Can You Feel the Love Tonight"), Mary Poppins (Julie Andrews's classic "A Spoonful of Sugar"), Pinocchio ("Give a Little Whistle"), and a bundle of treasured others, bottoming out at 1933's "Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf" from The Three Little Pigs. Vol. 3 is not without its weak moments--would a G-rated movie-goers' poll produce Beauty and the Beast's "Gaston" or The Hunchback of Notre Dame's "Topsy Turvy" on a hits list? Seems unlikely. Still, the bulk of these tracks are, as the included Little Mermaid song goes, "Part of Your World," and the spread of decades they represent proves their staying power. Don't expect Disney to latch the lid on its inexhaustible archives until a dozen or so of these records, each as strong as the next, beckon you back for more. --Tammy La Gorce
Customer Reviews:
Disney's greatest hits, volum 3.......2007-05-13
This is one of the better volums for kids and for those who are
above 18 but still have some kid in them
Timeless Disney Music.......2007-05-07
Nothing brings sweet recollection of Disney movies like hearing the wonderful songs. In an age where there so much music with no redeeming qualities, these Disney CDs are priceless. Wonderful for the entire family to listen to around the house or in the car while traveling. We can't help but sing along. We love that these are the original tracks from the movies! Wonderful! We now have all three volumes.
Disney songs are the best.......2006-03-18
I love the songs on this volume. I'll Try by Jonatha Brooke is such an amzing somg. I especially bought this CD fort that song but, was pleasantly surprsed by the rest of the playlist.
Great Disney Music.......2006-02-21
I have bought the first 2 volumes of Disney's Greatest Hits and the 3rd volume doesn't disapoint. My 2 young children love to listen to this CD and talk about the movies that they come from. A definate must have!
Not as good as Vol 1 and Vol 2.......2005-09-11
This Disney CD represents the "leftovers" that didn't make it on Vol 1 and Vol 2 of this series. Although it has some of my favorites, I don't listen to the entire CD often. Disney could have done a better job of editing the which sound files should make the cut on this one. Still, it's nice to have all 3 CDs.

Producer and composer Paul Schwartz thanks many people on State of Grace, but there is one notable exclusion: the 12th-century nun Hildegard von Bingen. Although these aren't her compositions, echoes of her ecstatic hymns and sequences resound throughout Schwartz's latest electronica-classical opus. He composes his own 21st-century gothic chants, which are sung by the impassioned soprano Lisbeth Scott. Scott is a powerful singer who brings a more emotional, perhaps even lustful, tone to these electro-Gregorian evocations, gliding over synthesizer ministrations and violin from the durable Gavyn Wright. Paul Schwartz was also responsible for the Aria CDs, on which he updated operatic arias with dance beats. State of Grace benefits from the less oppressive rhythmic regimentation, letting these soaring melodies ring out. When Schwartz deviates from his gothic inspirations, State of Grace flags, notably on a predictable rendition of "Amazing Grace," a misguided Celtic take on the Shaker hymn "Simple Gifts," and a trio of instrumentals. --John Diliberto
Customer Reviews:
Similar to Mehdi??? .......2007-06-14
I had to laugh at the tag "similar to Mehdi"...that's like saying the Beach Boys are similar to the Monkees....
For a while this CD never left my rotation, and I play a lot of music. I still get a quick thrill of anticipation when I run across it in my stacks of CDs, and decide to play it again.
This is spiritual music, true, but it is modern vocal/electronica as much as anything. It has a beat, it has soul, it is full-toned and gorgeous. But not too sweet, as the female vocalist puts grit into the tunes. Don't be put off by "Amazing Grace": yes, its that song, but not like you've ever heard it before. The arrangements add a new feel, and counterpoint the melody in an interesting and new way. All the "familiar songs" are like that: e.g. "Gift to be Simple (AKA Lord of the dance, the Shaker song)". The original works are similarly wonderful. You will be amazed.
Paul Schwarz has found a niche that I hope he never leaves. If he can continue to match the quality, beauty, composition and orchestration on this effort, he will become one of my top favorite artists of all time. (Other artists I enjoy: Enigma, Mark O'Conner, David Arkenstone, Acoustic Alchemy, Lesiem, Mars Lasar, Secret Garden, Bela Fleck, Moby, Bill Douglas, Dave Grusin, Fourplay, David Benoit, Angels of Venice, Loreena Mckennit, Andreas Vollenweider to name a very few. Mehdi is OK to go to sleep to.)
The best of Lizbeth Scott and Paul Schwartz.......2007-05-28
I was totally hooked on this style of music after hearing this CD. It is incredibly deep and beautiful and lyrical and just the kind of music that brings ancient language and sounds to the 21st century. I have all of the music that Lizbeth Scott records - she is a very good writer of her own contemporary style of music. The entire State of Grace series is incredible but this one is my absolute favorite. Right behind this is Aria 2.
Amazing !!!!.......2007-05-14
I too checked a copy of this out of my local library! I put it in my car stereo and rocketed down the interstate but soon had to pull over. I was crying uncontrollably! I could not believe how beautiful Lizabeth's voice was!
I took my copy to a friend of mine, who has a B&O system and played the masterpiece for him. He was positively blown away and plays his copy every night.
I just bought a copy of the disc along with the second version, which I am listening to now.
To be treasured.......2007-01-29
I Treasure this cd, Always. Every listening moment from beginning to end is a joyful journey. With each passing year, State of Grace grows more precious and meaningful to me. I always know where this cd is and turn to it whenever I anxious or afraid and it's peaceful, lovely grace never fails to flood through me, revitalizing my soul. State of Grace puts me into a state of pure peace and assuring grace. I hope you purchase and enjoy this cd as much as I do, it's just beautiful.
My favorite song on the cd is "Be Still My Soul."
Be still my soul, the Lord is on thy side/ Stand calm within, the storm of grief and pain/ Trust in thy God to order and provide/ Through every change, His faithful light remains/ Be still my soul, the restful peace within/ Through trying times leads to a joyful end
Be still my soul, the wind and waves sure know/ The voice who ruled them when He dwelt below/ Torment and doubt have slipped into the past/ All darkened mysteries shall shine at last/ His burning sun shall melt the ice of fear/ Lift up your heart, His soothing voice to hear
Be still my soul, when light you cannot see/ And trembling skies speak to the fear in thee/ The face of God illuminates the light/ Amending peace and trust in perfect light/ Be still my soul, when tears fall from above/ You are divine, eternally in love.
Soar!

Enhanting and Soul-Calming.......2006-02-01
I stumbled upon this CD at my library and was enchanted by the angel on the cover so I checked it out last week. It is an amazing, soothing, calming, meditative, soul-stirring rendition of music. The voices on the songs are lyrical, haunting and mesmerizing.
"Be Still My Soul" is like a musical tranquilizer, a heartfelt, beautiful melody that brings tears to my eyes every time I listen to it. It makes me feel as if I'm safely enfolded in God's wings and listening to His heart beating just for me.
I'm eager to find more music like this. I highly recommend this if you love soothing, uplifting music.

Customer Reviews:
Great songs on this CD with a lot of different artists..........2007-02-11
This CD is growing on me by the minute! The classic voices of Rosemary Clooney and Bing Crosby are not to be missed. Mix that with the fun tunes from the movie "White Christmas" and the wonderful voices of Danny Kaye, Peggy Lee, the Mellowmen, and others... and you've got a treasure.
Warning: This is NOT the original movie soundtrack. I don't really think the origninal movie sountrack exists because I have searched pretty extensively. However, all the songs that were in the movie are included (some twice by two different artists, e.g. "Sisters"), most are just not the MOVIE VERSION of the song. Also, there are songs included that are not even in the movie (e.g. "Susie Snowflake", "Winter Wonderland.") All in all this is an excellent CD and well worth the price for the 22 songs.
Ultimate White Christmas??.......2007-01-11
Well I was a bit disappointed with this CD, it does not have many of the original recordings from the movie and the recordings that they do have sometimes lacks one of the artists that sang it originally, for example Rosemary Clooney is absent from the "Snow" number, which I found disappointing. Despite this if you like White Christmas the movie this is still a must have, just don't expect it to meet all your expectations.
Searched Over 20 Years For This!.......2007-01-10
I have searched over 20 years for the orginial soundtrack to White Christmas. While this is not exact to the movie, it is close enough for me, and brings so many happy memories of my mom, who passed away one Christmas when I was young. All I need to stir a warm thought is Bing's "Count Your Blessings". It is the last song my mom sang the night before she died and I just get the chills. ANY fan of this movie, this soundtrack is a MUST for you! Highly recommended!
Finally - A White Christmas Soundtrack.......2007-01-10
This was a difficult disc to find at local stores. Lovely soundtrack - just like the movie. Amazon did the job.
This Recording Is All we Have sadly.......2007-01-08
Each december 1st I wish and hope and pray that the original 1954 soundtrack to this holiday classic would make it's cd debut, but it never does dammit!. I bought this cd and have to say that it's very good, and is the nearest thing we have to a movie soundtrack of this Irving Berlin jewel. I love this cd and have played it many times, even after the holidays are over. We can only hope that a ligit recording comes out someday, but untill then, this is a fun disc. Mike

The magical triad behind Rushmore's spunky, starry-eyed soundtrack--music supervisor Randall Poster, composer Mark Mothersbaugh, and director Wes Anderson--leaps forward a decade from that beloved soundtrack's '60s gems, in the process adopting a more pensive feel for The Royal Tenenbaums' musical backdrop. It may lack the euphoric sing-along feel of, say, Creation's "Makin' Time," but the rock and folk tracks here perfectly match the film's crumbling characters and their dilapidated relationships. The Ramones' "Judy Is a Punk" is a burst of nostalgic rebellion but surely causes a sad twinge in light of Joey Ramone's untimely death in 2001; gloom-folker Nick Drake's "Fly" and Elliott Smith's excellently depressing "Needle in the Hay"--which is used to chilling effect during a wrist-slashing scene--further deepen the dark thread running through Tenenbaums. But those who prefer the sunny disposition of Rushmore will be thrilled by the calming concoctions of Mothersbaugh, who heralds the coming of a new scene with graceful woodwind/string parts ("Scrapping and Yelling") and playful sitar pieces ("Pagoda's Theme"). Throw in the Clash's squalling "Police & Thieves" and the Velvet Underground's petal-soft "Stephanie Says" and you've got another winning soundtrack from the film biz's most in-tune music lovers. Tenenbaum or not, you can go home again. --Kristy Martin

Great easy listenening .......2007-02-02
I like this soundtrack because its very laid back. Enjoyable songs that help you relax.
Help trying to figure out the title of a song.......2006-04-17
Hey, maybe you guys can help me, does anyone know the title of the song playing on a radio while owen wilson is getting high (or preparing to do so) with his friends and his dad and brother step in and tell him they want to help him. I really love that song and i have no idea what the title is
omitted song.......2006-02-01
For anyone interested, one song which was omitted from the soundtract which has not been mentioned is:
Emitt Rhodes - Lullabye
A beautiful track played in the scence where Royal is lying in his bed sucking down a shake and reading a book when Chas say "lights out old man" and switchs off the light. One of my fav songs in the movie along side the rolling stones - she smiled sweetly. sadly both songs were omitted but still a beautiful soundtrack.
Where's Van Morrison?!.......2005-03-16
This is a near-perfect collection of 60's and 70's pop and folk. The sad but hopeful vibe of the songs fits the movie's tone perfectly and you can't really agrue with songs like "Stephanie Says." it's also nice to hear the two Nico cuts since Nico's solo work really doesn't get the acclaim it deserves these days. My problem with this album is that it favors symphonic songs from the film instead of pop songs also used in it such as "Ruby Tuesday" and Van Morrison's "Everyone." I'm really bummed about the exclusion of "Everyone" because i thought it closed the movie so well. They should have released the score and the soundtrack separately so all these great songs could be included.
The Royal Tenenbaums Soundtrack.......2005-03-14
The Collector's Edition Soundtrack leaves out two great Rolling Stones' tunes She Smiled Sweetly & Ruby Tuesday. Also left to the winds is John Lennon's Look at Me, the Clash's Rock the Kazbah. The First Edition leaves a few tunes off too but it is a far better Soundtrack. Puckstar

Great Music.......2007-07-03
It has a great variety of songs. They are well orchestrated and fun to listen, too.
Nice No words.......2007-02-15
I didn't realize that when I bought this that it was just instrumental. However my husband loves it wordless and all. If your looking for background music or relax music this is definitely the cd for you.
good instrumental.......2006-02-28
a very pleasant and somewhat haunting cd, easy listening at it's best for western songs,cd only has 10 songs on it but they are all very good and easily worth the price. This cd would be good to play for background music also.I would like to see more of these cd's.
Nice Cowboy CD.......2003-11-03
i really like the CD. it has nice instrumentals of many classic cowboy songs. the quality is very good too. the only downfall is that the CD is only about 30 minutes long so it is quite short. but other than that, i recommend it for anyone wanting to hear these nice classic songs.
The Greatest Cowboy Songs Ever.......2000-01-09
By far, the best instrumental of Western songs I have heard. Very well done! Truely does make you feel you are back in the Old West spiritually!

In adapting Chris Van Allsburg's beloved, 1986 Caldecott Medal winning children's Christmas fable, director Robert Zemeckis fused the technologies of live-action motion capture and CGI to an unprecedented degree, producing a visual sensibility that perfectly embodies the netherworld between fantasy and reality that made the book so inviting. Musically, Zemeckis has shrewdly teamed longtime collaborator Alan Silvestri with hit tunesmith Glen Ballard for the original half his soundtrack, then given the rest over to a star-packed tribute to pop Christmas past that includes such timeless chestnuts as Bing Crosby's "White Christmas," "Winter Wonderland" by the Andrew Sisters and Perry Como's "It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas." But the Silvestri/Ballard originals here are the main event, from Tom Hanks' vigorous vocal mugging on the title track and "Hot Chocolate" through the innocent charm of "When Christmas Comes to Town" and the over-the-top, jumpin' jive of Steven Tyler's "Rockin' On Top of the World." Josh Groban's "Believe" overdoes the treacle, but Silvestri's rich choral workouts and underscore suite are grand Hollywood-scaled tributes to the spirit of the season. Also available in a deluxe, illustrated children's book format gift edition that includes an actual encased jingle bell embedded in the cover. --Jerry McCulley

The Polar Express.......2007-05-24
A dream of a boy comes to life in the great book polar express. It is about a great journey to the North Pole to meat Santa Claus. He meats lots of friends and has many good and bad/ dangerous things happen to him.
The main character has brown hair and eyes also he is about 9 of 10. During the book you can tell he is very generous. also he get in to many bad situations like when we dosent belif in santa claus.
Excellent! First Rate.......2007-04-11
We give it a strong 5 stars. Young and old alike will love this movie. Nothing in it is offensive, and it has a great message of hope.
Polar Express is hot.......2007-04-11
I am 57 yet I thoroughly enjoyed the movie and as a result bought the soundtrack. It plays in my Subaru's CD and has songs that remind me of childhood, songs that are fun, and others that make me want to move to the beat. It takes you through the movie and I find myself recalling little scenes from the movie. It was an outstanding performance by Tom Hanks and he puts just the right amount of train conductor and wise sage in the cuts he does on this soundtrack. I am glad I bought it.
Polar Express music CD.......2007-02-06
Quick to receive. Only slight thing I noticed was a crack in the cover but the CD itself was in perfect condition.
PERFECT!.......2007-02-02
This is the BEST Heart-felt Christmas Story I have seen in years. I have 2 copies of this and still had to watch it everytime it was on TV. AWESOME!!!!!

Baltimore's greatest filmmaker has demonstrated a deep appreciation for that very American crossroads of kitsch and sensationalism since the late `60s, at least. Of course, quirky Christmas anthologies abound already - the three best probably being Christmas Party With Eddie G, American Song-Poem Christmas, and Where Will You Be Christmas Day. But the songs on A John Waters Xmas are novelty songs for the true connoisseur, including recordings so saccharine and horrifying you wonder how the engineers did not run from the booth screaming; "Happy Birthday Jesus" by the precocious Little Cindy is likely the scariest thing you will ever hear in your life. Not everything is so "Outsider"-y and thrift store score; there's the rocking, funny "Fat Daddy" by Fat Daddy, a delightful song by the Coctails with the singing saw as the lead instrument, and a gorgeous obscure doo-wop number called "Christmas Time Is Coming (A Street Carol)" by Stormy Weather. --Mike McGonigal
Album Description
These Christmas classics were hand picked by Waters himself: "Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer" by Tiny Tim, "Happy Birthday Jesus" by Little Cindy, "Sleigh Ride" by Alvin And The Chipmunks, "Here Comes Fatty Claus" by Rudolph And Gang, and "Santa Claus Is A Black Man" by AKIM & The Teddy Vann Production Company, to name a few.
Customer Reviews:
Not the Typical Christmas Music.......2007-01-20
Like John Waters' classic Christmas movie Female Trouble, this is far better than the usual corny holiday stuff. It's the only Christmas album that I actually enjoy.
Excellent.......2007-01-16
This is an excellent CD. I've been looking for a song on it for years
I wanna wish everybody Happy Kwanzaa, Happy Kwanzaa, Merry Christmas, Have a Nice Time!.......2005-12-20
This CD apparently features records from John Waters' Christmas record collection. They seem to be recorded directly from old records, because some of them are rather scratchy. Most of these records are pretty rare, probably on account of the fact that they aren't very good. I'll go over the CD track by track.
1. "Fat Daddy" is really Santa Claus, he says. Bizarre and stupid.
2. Tiny Tim did a better version of "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer" on his Christmas album.
3. "Christmas Time is Coming" is a pretty good acapella doo wop song that is reminiscent of "Daddy's Home".
4. "Happy Birthday, Jesus" is an awful, corny recitation by a little girl.
5. "Here Comes Fatty Claus" is a mildly amusing, somewhat vulgar, novelty song.
6. "Little Mary Christmas" is another corny recitation, this time by the DJ who collaborated with Brian Wilson on some of his early songs.
7. "I Wish You a Merry Christmas" is a decent, early '60s style R&B number.
8. "Santa! Don't Pass Me By" is a mediocre country ballad.
9. "Sleigh Ride" is not even by the "real" Chipmunks, it's by the '80s revival version.
10. "Sleighbells, Reindeer and Snow" is badly sung by what sounds like a little girl.
11. "First Snowfall" is a forgettable instrumental featuring the theremin.
12. "Santa Claus is a Black Man" features a little boy badly singing a song about how Santa Claus looks like his dad.
There you have it. It's not good, but I suppose it has some "camp" entertainment value.
Oh The Christmases We Used To Know?.......2005-12-17
If one wants to hear the wackiest Christmas collection, look no further. Take a listen to A JOHN WATERS' CHRISTMAS. It is, indeed, a big snowball full of wacky, tacky and horrific songs. However, this may not be the Christmas collection for every family member, hence the parental advisory warning due to the tune, "Here Comes Fatty Claus."
Waters' collection goes beyond the old tunes that we all know so well. However, he adds a few familiar favorites with a little spin and dementedness - Tiny Tim's version of "Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer" and The Chipmunks' "Sleigh Ride." Speaking of demented, the songs on the CD bear similar reminders to late night listeners of the Dr. Demento Show or the hall of fame of Christmas tackiness, "Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer." With that in mind, there are a few gems in the collection, such as the country western feel of "Christmas Time Is Coming (A Street Carol)" by Stormy Weather and the Motown-ish sounding "I Wish You a Merry Christmas" by Big Dee Irwin and Little Eva of "The Locomotion" fame, which will get you in the Christmas groove. Where will you hear the touching "Little Mary Christmas" by Roger Christian? With all its 1950s or early 1960s storytelling about the ill fated, this is the poignant tale of Mary the orphan who wishes for a family for Christmas; the Nashville-like tones are a delight to hear. By far, the highlight of the CD is the opening track, "Fat Daddy" by Fat Daddy himself who tells us who the real Santa Claus is, and the doll-like vocals of Little Cindy and her "Happy Birthday Jesus (A Child's Prayer)".
The only unfortunate aspect of the CD is the lack of extended liner notes that make reference to the release date of each song. However, Waters' own notes are quite hilarious to read. A JOHN WATERS' CHRISTMAS is as Christmassy as one can get. If you're looking for a little laugh from all the shopping and the Merry Christmas debates, Waters' CD provides an alternative to the different versions of "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town" or "Jingle Bells". So, get the Yule log burning, put your dancing shoes on, indulge in a little eggnog, and enjoy.
Happy Holidays..........2005-12-16
...from the clearly insane Mr. Waters...this dude truly ain't hooked up rite, as we'd say down South...faves from this collection are the creepy "Happy Birthday Jesus", the scurrilous "Here Comes Fatty Claus" and last, but not least, "Santa Claus is a Black Man"...This is the perfect pick me up for any X-mas party. Trust me, your friends and family will not have heard these highly peculiar carols...

The title might be immodest, but it's accurate. Just about every holiday song parody and comedy sketch you can imagine is jimmied onto this hilarious, sprawling collection. While you'll find a smattering of well-known Christmas wackiness (including "Grandma Got Run over by a Reindeer" and the Singing Dogs' "Jingle Bells"), the Doctor's specialty is unearthing the obscure, such as Wild Man Fischer's weirder-than-weird "I Am a Christmas Tree." You'll never listen to "The 12 Days of Christmas" quite the same way after hearing the spins put on the tale by both Allan Sherman and Bob and Doug McKenzie, and you're likely to check your Christmas cookie for "special ingredients" after hearing Cheech & Chong's "Santa Claus and His Old Lady." --David Sprague

A family favorite.......2007-04-01
This CD is a family favorite. My kids love to sing along to it, particulary the Hippopotamus song (which is very difficult to find). Although I originally bought this CD for that one song, we have found the entire disk highly enjoyable.

Brings you back to when you were young.......2007-01-19
This CD was very good. It reminded me of when I was younger and the types of songs my parents played while preparing for the Christmas Season. There are some newer titles and versions and all in all they are good.
Good Variety.......2007-01-16
This is a fun collection, and a worthy addition to the "Now That's What I Call Christmas" series. Nice variety of old and new.
OK But not as good as ones I bought in the past.......2007-01-12
This CD was somewhat of a dissapointment. Wasn't as good as I thought it would be. Was okay but definitely not one of my better Christmas CD's.
Now that's what I call great..........2007-01-11
Great mixture of classic songs and classic artists - something for everyone - now that's what I call a great 2 CD Christmas compilation!
Review.......2007-01-09
