The splicing together of nu metal, rap, funk, and sterile electronica laced with dark melodies as infectious as anything Britney has to offer inspired 6 million people to purchase copies of Limp Bizkit's Significant Other. With Chocolate Starfish, they perfect their formula. From the electro-infused "Intro" through the contagiously chugging "My Generation" to the straight-up rap of "Getcha Groove On," Chocolate Starfish is a slick, clinical, and flawless platform for Fred Durst's effortlessly savage--and occasionally unintentionally comic--sociological rants geared toward disaffected youth. Ultimately, though, it's that undeniably intelligent musical backdrop--the brooding guitar sound that gave the Mission Impossible 2 theme haunting new life and menace, and that defines "Hot Dog," "Full Nelson," "My Way," "Rollin'," "Boiler," and "It'll Be Okay"--that makes this a seething work of genius. The fact is, with rap and rock saying pretty much the same thing, Limp Bizkit have plenty of competition. They just do what they do better than everyone else. --Dan Gennoe

Infantile, laughable, retarded, yet catchy. .......2007-05-14
There are many people who hate them, and many who love them. I kind of stand in the middle. At times, I think they have shown their potential, like with their first two albums. But lately, they have become more idiotic. Definitely a gimic band. This album was fun to listen to when you were drunk at a college party, or when you needed something mindless to sing along to on a long drive. I tend to be embarrassed that I own their albums when talking to other fans of the heavy music scene. I think that I have learned to stay away from any new bands that show similar qualities to LB, but God help me, when I was first getting into heavier music, LB was there to bridge the gap. All my friends were into it. My musical taste has become heavier over the years, but LB is still a guilty pleasure at times. I think they have a talent for writing good hooks, but Fred is not a good vocalist. Wes Borland is very talented, and I'm glad he was smart enough to branch out from LB and do his own thing, because it must have been suffocating to be in such a scripted band. Oh well. I take this album for what it is. Mindless fun with little lasting value.
IDIOTS!!.......2007-04-21
Oh my God! Somebody said they were the creators of thrash metal? That is the biggest piece of crap ever! Hello, thrash was back in like 1981, with Slayer and Tallica. Back when Fred Durst was waxing his mother's wang.
Limp Bizkit is quite possibly the worst band since WHAM. Even the Dixie Chicks could wipe the floor with 'em. All of their songs are they same poser bullcrap. They are a gimmick. How can you take a band seriously when they have a song like Hot Dog? And My Generation? That song is such crap. It is sad that a bunch of loser kids who like to think they are cool listen to Limp Bizkit. LIMP BIZKIT IS FOR LOSERS, POSERS, MORONS, IDIOTS, and Fred Durst's family members!!
Don't buy anything LIMP BIZKIT!!!
Rap-metal at it's finest!.......2007-04-06
First off that dude that said that Limp Bizkit is the kreatorz of thrash metal, I agree. Not only can they mix thrash, speed, power, grunge, & all types of metal, but they can mix hip hop, funk, rap, & nice phat beats with'em as well. Fred Durst knows how to put his mind to it when comes to rap-metal genres & no this metal band is not, I repeat not nu-metal. This band is a hundred percent heavy metal with mixtures of rap vocals, oh yeah! To the haters below, whats the deal with hating on Limp Bizkit for, they're the real deal metal baby. But as me I like both rap music & metal music, epecially in combine form as naturally well! Limp Bizkit will indeed go down in all history in the heavy metal hall of fame.
P.S. Get the LB albums in permanent order:
1. 3 Dollar Bill Y'all
2. Significant Other
3. This one right here, Chocolate Starfish & The Hot Dog Flavored Water
4. Old New Songs remix
5. Results May Vary(that album is not bad)
6. The Unquestionable Truth Pt.1
7. Greatest Hitz with 3 extra tracks
8. Wait for Unquestionable Truth Pt. 2 coming out this year!
Must admit that this is a good album.......2007-04-04
Especially now that nu-metal is dead and korn and linkin park are the only thriving nu-metal bands it is embarrasing to admit to liking a limp bizkit album. I am not a huge limp bizkit fan, but this album is definately worth listening too. Every song on this album is entertaining if you are a hard rock fan. This album is definately a good album to get the adrenaline going. Even if you are embarrased to have anyone know that you are listening to limp bizkit it is definately worth listening to in secret.

If you have read my title, it sayz that Limp Bzkit are the kreatorz of thrash metal.... And that's a fact! Thoze pozerz like old Metallica, Pantera, and Slayer were nu-metal you idiotz. Thrash metal didn't come around until KoRn and Limp Bizkit came around and came up with the great of idea and actually including SOLOZ in their songz. Thrashing guitar soloz that show pozerz like Eric Clapton and Jimi Hendrix and "Dimebag" Darrel how to play a guitar solo.
Fred Durst is a musical genius- that showed on their debut. It showed he was a tortured artist whoze genius could only be understood by other tortured artists, like me, who watch MTV and TRL.
Limp Bizkit will go down as the greatest heavy metal band of all time.

To the person who posted this piece of s**t of a review...What the hell have you been smoking?! I swear your review is the most funniest I have ever read here on Amazon and when I finished reading it I was giggling with laughter!...If you think Limp Bizkit is the greatest heavy metal band, then why are they not around anymore?! Limp Bizkit doesn't even come close to being a heavy metal band...By the way how the hell can you even say Metallica, Slayer, or Pantera are a nu metal band when they are NOT?! They don't even come close to being nu metal you stupid dumbass. Nu metal would be bands like Korn or Linkin Park or that band called Limp Bizkit. What I don't get is how you think Eric Clapton or Jimi Hendrix are posers when they were doing solos long before Limp Bizkit even existed. Fred Durst doesn't even come close to being a genius because either he or someone had come up with the most dumbest cd title I have ever read..and it's people like you that makes me really laugh because smart people know when to stay the hell away from MTV because they don't know what a real rock band is or a metal band for that matter... That's why they suck b*lls*

Damned Good Presentation.......2006-05-05
Colin Towns and his big horn-laden band have really honoured Frank Zappa with this live recording.
The music is more similar to a Zappa concert in that the arrangements aren't just well-played duplicates of the released product, rather more of what it felt like to be in attendance at an actual Zappa concert. It's as if Colin and the boys use Zappa's music as a vehicle to show off their own musical chops and style.
Each peice rings with certain familiarity to the Zappa-penned music, but is executed with the band's own flair and compositional skills evocative of Zappa, but truly their own.
My only gripe is that signature epic Zappa peices the likes of "King Kong" are "horribly foreshortened", to quote the great man himself. The head section of King Kong is played very well and is very familiar, but then the band totally improvises the rest for just under three minutes before segueing smoothly into the next tune. I wished they really let that tune go longer and perhaps revisited the main theme through different instrumentation a few times in-between soloists. Sorry fellas. "King Kong" cannot be reduced to a mere three minutes.
Among my favorite peices are "Brown Shoes Don't Make It" with it's intricate and complex percussion work and "Stevie's Spanking", which begins with unfamiliar guitar jamming before suddenly kicking in with the very familiar opening strums of that rockin' tune. It just sneaks up on you and you feel like Frank and Steve Vai are jamming again. Watermelon in Easter Hay is played very nicely with some of the guitar solo being replaced with horns. Reminded me of the very excellent use of horn that Zappa used to replace the guitar solo in the '88 tour version of Led Zeppelin's "Stairway To Heaven". A nice surprise.
On a side note: I'm curious as to how this particular track was allowed to be released. As far as I know, "Watermelon in Easter Hay" is legend to be Zappa's most personal signature composition, and is not allowed to be recorded by anybody outside of Zappa's own family. I hope that Colin and his affiliates don't have a big lawsuit to contend with as a result, but I'm happy to listen to that beautiful music.
All-in-all, the band performed this difficult Zappa music nicely - not copying it, but evoking the true spirit of what Zappa was about as a composer/arranger and performer.
I think Frank would appreciate the effort and style of this live performance.
Brilliant Jazz-Infused Big Band FZ Tribute.......2006-04-23
Leave it to the Europeans, who always appreciated FZ more than we sad, plaid Americans, to put together a hot band and a shimmering recording like this one. Without a doubt, this is the best Frank Zappa tribute recording I have found. It is a brilliantly arranged, movingly performed homage both to FZ's music and to his legendary live performances. This release achieves the elusive goal of being highly original while at the same time staying very true to FZ's music.
For those who have attended your fair share of FZ shows, this CD will transport you back to the days before the music died in 1993. If you're listening intently, you might even shed a tear for FZ when you hear the highly evocative opening guitar solo to "Watermelon in Easter Hay." This one song is the best single musical tribute to FZ I've yet to hear; listening reminded me very much of the first time I heard Warren Zevon's "Keep Me In Your Heart For A While," with the same emotional impact.
This is not a collection of reworked "hits." The only thing that comes close would be either "Peaches En Regalia" or "G-Spot Tornado." This is a collection for the experienced and knowledgeable FZ fan, who's got the "Stevie's Spanking" riff in his head when he sees the title, who remembers when "Black Napkins" debuted on "Zoot Allures" and all of the great audience participation FZ choreographed with the "Be-Bop Tango." The CD stands together as a single performance piece. As a live recording, the crowd presence is there, but not overwhelming. There are no board fades, with the band vamping and waning under Towns' direction as they move deftly from one song to another.
The band has a very impressive sound. This is a truly boss big band, with 4 trumpets, 3 trombones, a tuba, 5 saxes, and then keyboard, bass, guitar, percussion, and drums. This lineup harkens back to the Greatest Band You Never Heard in Your life and that 1989 ultimate, self-destructive FZ tour (which I saw in Mannheim, Germany), and then some. There is a core sound which is unmistakably Zappa, with some remarkably imitative yet original guitar work by Stephan Diez, and a number of sax solos which have both the sound and feel of the sax work captured on the "Live in New York" album.
Total running time is over 65 minutes, with extended jams on "Eat That Question," "Watermelon in Easter Hay," and "Little Umbrellas/Big Swifty." All tracks are instrumental, with the exception of only three words, spoken twice. A bold and clear baritone intones, "Just smells funny" early in "Intro and Anthem." This, of course, refers to FZ's classic line from the "Be-Bop Tango" from the "Roxy & Elsewhere" album, where he says, "Jazz is not dead, it just smells funny." This is Colin Towns' way of telling us in three simple words that he's very, very hip to FZ, his music and history, and that this concert will be a jazzy homage to the hungry freak who laid it all down so many years ago. A good comparison is the well-done, clearly respectful, but ultimately uninspiring 2004 "Greggary Peccary & Other Persuasions" release from Ensemble Moderne; the FZ sound is there, but it's too close to the original, too tone-on perfect and antiseptic, and ultimately a bit hollow.
The CD opens with a pseudo-band warm-up, which transitions into the twisted "Introduction & Anthem." Towns' choice of this tune as an opener seems to be a clear homage to Frank's country of origin. The band transitions right into a ballsy and up-tempo take on my all-time favorite, "Peaches En Regalia." This is a traditional FZ closer, and I interpret its placement early in the program as a position of honor. It's a pretty divergent arrangement, but then again, how many different times did FZ rework it himself? A few of the harmonies are arranged a little differently, and the bridge is pretty far out here. The band's horns are boss in every way, early in the show, coming hard and fast to punch up the chorus.
"Eat That Question" follows, and is an extended jam, very true to the original FZ sound. "Willie The Pimp" which got a rough and arguably ugly makeover by Captain Beefheart, gets a radical overhaul here, becoming a rocking jazzy piano breakdown, straying close to ragtime at times. Another personal favorite, "Let's Make the Water Turn Black," is arranged strongly up-tempo, becoming a big-band ska tune. It's not a bad take, but it's definitely different. The closer is "G Spot Tornado," and it's thoroughly enjoyable. It's slowed down a bit, with a rocking drum backing and some hot solos that make truly danceable; I'd call it avant garde stripper music. All of the other tracks are equally enjoyable-I've been playing this CD non-stop at home for over three weeks now.
Bottom Line: This is not an entry-level FZ recording. If you're new to FZ and thinking about an initial purchase to see what the fuss is all about, or even if you've got a few albums and are looking to expand your collection, wait on this one. Round out your original FZ release acquisitions first, until you reach the point where the titles on this CD, and all of their versions as performed by FZ/MOI are thoroughly familiar to you. Then you'll be ready to truly appreciate this recording. This is an absolutely fantastic album, and stands alone as inspired and expertly performed instrumental rock/jazz, but is best appreciated by the more mature and experienced FZ/MOI aficionado, those devoted ones who know all of the titles at first glance, who know what they want to hear, and can look forward to and appreciate seriously different yet unmistakably reverent arrangements of hard-core FZ standards.
Inventive and Entertaining Live Coverage of Frank Zappa.......2006-04-15
Overall I like this album a lot. My only complaint is that the production is not the best. At times the details of the performance are not as clear as they could be. Maybe it just came down to what level of engineering they could afford, but this is not a Zappa production. Now I know he's gone and we won't be hearing his particular slant on the guitar any more, but good production is still possible, so that was a bit of a let down. None the less, it is a live album and the sound is growing on me as I write this review.
Complaints I have read about the Imaginary Diseases album relate to the arrangements not making enough use of the full diversity of the brass and horns. Well, Colin Towns put this selection together doing just that, making full use of the diversity of the brass and horns. The arrangements are very adventurous but still very true to Zappa in my opinion. Peaches is not just a same sounding rerun and there are some interesting harmonic variations and small solo insertions. Eat that question is firstly ominous and then it's all over you. Followed by a whimsical Let's Make The Water Turn Black.
Controversially, there's a rendition of Watermelon In Easter Hay. What I like here is that the guitarist doesn't have a style like FZ's and he doesn't try to sound like him. I like the way it's played here within the context of a big band. Brown Shoe's Don't Make It is a cut down version and the music is perfect for big band. Then come Willie The Pimp, King Kong and Pound For A Brown and just like with Peaches they don't just mimic any version you've already heard. The composed sections of Waka Jawaka are probably the closest to the original of all the pieces on the album.
Stevie's Spanking is played like a big band having a rock jam, Sinister Footwear -2nd Mvt is not a densely melodic version but is just very much a sinister ambience, Little Umbrellas/Big Swifty is very nicely done and starts off with a very interesting arrangement of Little Umbrellas. The Big Swifty part refers not to the themes of that piece, but to a medley of well known themes from various great composers including Tchaikovsky's 1812 overture that is taken from the latter part of the arrangement of Big Swifty on Make A Jazz Noise Here. Black Napkins has a really nice throaty sax solo, that guy didn't learn to play that way at a school, Be-Bop Tango is a short version which starts with some really nice piano work, and G-Spot Tornado, well it sounds like a big band doing G-Spot Tornado.
All in all I would highly recommended this album. What I would really like of course is the opportunity to see a show like this in the flesh.

what the hell happened after their debut cd?.......2003-03-10
yeah there are some catch songs yadda yadda yadda...but im missin the 'Three Dollar Bill Y'all' style...seems to have vanished after they did the video for Faith. maybe they liked selling out except for Wes eventually when he quit. i've heard a track off of the new album 'Bipolar they have set for this summer and its not bad, im hoping that they go back to the Counterfiet and the Leech shuff...
doods, they need to 'bring that beat back!' as they once said.
Pure Garbage.......2002-04-28
I NEVER liked Limp Bizkit. In fact, the ONLY reason I bought this cd is because a friend of mine said that it was "the best thing Limp Bizkit has ever done." Boy, what a load of crap that was! This cd perfectly displays how Limp Bizkit was one of rock/metal's biggest mistakes. It's a pure disgrace to know that KoRn, the most important band in metal history in my opinion, discovered these [guys]. The music that Limp Bizkit plays on here is as always, repetitive and bland. Fred Durst doesn't even attempt to sing on here. Why bother? We've all heard him try to sing, and he just plain [not good]! And also, the constant use of the f-word is just kind of immature. REAL musicians don't find it necessary to constantly use profanities in their songs. Avoid this cd at all costs. Nothing on this cd is worth anyone's time.
limp bizkit rulz.......2002-03-16
Believe me when I say this. This CD is great. I love all the rock songs especially "My Way" and "Rollin (Air Raid Vehicle)". WWF Superstar the Undertaker has "Rollin" for his entrance music. I'll admit this guy is not my favorite wrestler but because he uses this song he has the best entrance. Anybody who loves Limp bizkit or other rock stars like kid rock or Korn will love this Cd.
Limp Bizkit-AWESOME CD!!!.......2001-12-05
Wow......where do I start?? This CD is for anyone who likes rap AND rock. It has swears, so make sure ya check w/ the 'rents before you buy this CD. The songs have a great beat. I love this CD!
stupendous.......2001-12-02
It is now ok to be the real, mature immature, stupid rude jerk that is actually how everyone feels but never had the self confidence to be. Yeah, no stupidly sappy sad serious drama-get over your parents and be the rude jerk that you honestly are-I can sing "yeah" to that song better than any lyric in anyother song anywhere. Yeah.

Austin, Texas's Asylum St. Spankers take their genre-melding to the hilt, provided the genres are all forms of American music pre-1940. On Hot Lunch, the 10-piece collective mixes hot jazz, ragtime, blues, kitsch, and country into an amalgam of its own, with goofy lyrics and plenty of humor. The Squirrel Nut Zippers are an obvious comparison, but the Spankers' focus is on strings, not brass, and these tunes don't need to swing to work. On "U.F.O. Attack," the group pays homage to Spike Jones with plenty of musical saw and washboard, the title track is a Gypsy-inspired romp, and "Island Angel" is a soft Hawaiian ballad. Coproducer Bob Brozman even joins in on a few songs and adds some serious instrumental chops on his National guitar and ukulele. It's fun, campy, and--yeah--hot. --Jason Verlinde
Album Description
The Asylum Street Spankers, a loose, unplugged collective of Austin, TX, pickers and bon vivants, seem to have little trouble, on Hot Lunch's 16 cuts, deftly blending virtuosic musicianship with seemingly effortless musical and lyrical wit. The band flits between ragtime, country, old-style am radio pop tunes, swing, and country-blues with equal ease. The Spankers particularly on such puckish, narrative cuts as "Trippin' Over You," "Sad Bomber," and others manage to walk the razor thin line between novelty and just plain fun-lovin' jamboree frolics.
Customer Reviews:
A great CD to introduct the Spankers to others or yourself.......2005-01-18
The Asylum Street Street Spankers are as much a lifestyle philosophy as a band. As such it's impossible to capture the essence of them in a recording. Even strictly musically they cover such a range of style and subject matter that striking the right mix can't be easy. I'd reccomend getting everything they've done. But if you just want to try them out or if you want to turn someone else on to the band, the best way is with a fresh helping of "Hot Lunch". The Album offers a great balance of humor, homage, irreverence, and superb musicianship. If you can see them live, do so. If you can't I reccomend "Hot Lunch".
Emphasizes the music, not the comedy.......2003-02-23
I've seen the Spankers dozens of times in person, and there is nothing like it. But I didn't think their albums translated well to the world outside of Austin...Until Hot Lunch. This album has the right approach; it captures the band's raw musical talent and leaves out the had-to-be-there fun that totally works live but can end up sounding campy on vinyl/other. This album brings out the true greatness that makes the Spankers so amazing: Stan's smooth, woody clarinet, Pop's poignant ukulele, and Christina's lush vocals.
So good it Hurts!.......2002-08-03
This was the first of their albums I bought, and, with the exception of LIVE, it is their best. This is some of the freshest music out there today. I give it as gifts. You cannot be depressed when listening to this lively all real instrument band of people who all just love to play.
It's good but not their best.......2001-01-07
If you are a die hard fan or have a collection of their stuff, then this is a good CD to have. There are some redeemable qualities on this one, but it's just not their best. It's not really up to their standards. If you have not heard very much from them or are experimenting with their style of music. Please start with one of their other Cd's first, then move on to this one.
swingy, jazzy, jumpy.......2000-06-17
I'm a fan of Andrew Bird's Bowl of Fire, and this is an interesting cross between their style and the Squirell Nut Zippers. An eclectic mix of serious musicians playing not-so-serious music. The 30s-40s era harmonies are a blast.
Swing on!

Review by Steve Huey
A wildly erratic slice of funky soul-jazz in keeping with Lou Donaldson's . Also featuring guitarist Melvin Sparks, organist Charles Earland, and trumpeter Ed Williams, the ensemble late-'60s commercial accessibility, ... really catches fire on "Turtle Walk," a Donaldson original where the groove sounds natural and helps push the soloists. The Donaldson-penned title cut also gets pretty funky, though the underlying vamp is a little insubstantial to stretch out over ten minutes. The Tommy Turrentine ballad "Bonnie" returns Donaldson to the sweet, romantic territory he's mined so well over the years.

The splicing together of nu metal, rap, funk, and sterile electronica laced with dark melodies as infectious as anything Britney has to offer, inspired 6 million people to purchase copies of Limp Bizkit's Significant Other.

Oh my..........2002-10-09
What astounds me is that Three Dollar Bill is so ... good, but Significant Other is so mediocre and Limp (more Fred than anything) decides to follow that mediocrity with an even [worse] CD! For one, the melodies and notes are too disjointed to sound proper, he tries to maintain this tough-guy image with hard and drawn-out riffs with rough vocals and also (for some odd reason) this sensitive guy image ... where he tries somehow to mix melodic soft singing with his completely inept singing voice... (...buy the CD just to cringe over his obnoxiously horrible vocals...)
He's making himself into what he used to hate: a fake. ...
An awesome record!.......2002-02-20
I don't really care if they've changed! So what if tracks 9 and 14 are rap?!?! Not ME!!! This is the best LB cd and I don't see why people think LB is weak!! They're a miracle that happened to the world! Sure, maybe there's 1 bad track(Hold On,) but 14 of 15 of the tracks are good!! This album is full of some of the best songs I've ever heard(Hot Dog, Rollin'(Air Raid,) Full Nelson,) and others. Here's proof:
Intro: I thought it would be bad, but I love the electronic sounds of the unique intro. 10/10
Hot Dog: One of the best songs I've ever heard. I love the begining with Fred Durst singing "Introducing, the chocolate starfish and the hot dog flavored water!" I want more of that! 10/10
My Generation: This has another great begining. I also love the music video to this song. 10/10
Full Nelson: This is my favorite song on the album! Great riffs and lyrics. 10/10
I think you've had enough proof that this album kicks. Buy it if you're a fan of rap/metal!

Rest in peace Buck Owens........2006-04-01
This was Buck Owens comeback album from 1988. He had been pretty much retired for the previous seven years, until Dwight Yoakam brought him out of retirement to sing a duet of Buck's old song "Streets of Bakersfield". After that song became a #1 hit, Buck was given a recording contract by his old label, Capitol Records. And that's where this album came from. It is a short album, being just 26 minutes long. The only songs here that Buck never recorded before are the new song "Put a Quarter in the Jukebox" and Eddie Cochran's hit "Summertime Blues". The rest of the material consists of new versions of songs that Buck had previously recorded. Most of the old songs that Buck chose to redo here are songs that he felt were good, but hadn't received as much attention as they deserved. The one song here that actually was a big hit for Buck way back when is "Under Your Spell Again", which is redone here as a duet with Dwight Yoakam. This is actually a very good album. Buck sounds just like he always did, and they wisely didn't try to update his sound too much. Buck's fans should enjoy this album. Here is the complete track listing:
1. Don't Let Her Know
2. A-11
3. Summertime Blues
4. Memphis
5. Hot Dog
6. Put a Quarter in the Jukebox
7. Under Your Spell Again
8. Second Fiddle
9. Sweethearts in Heaven
10. Keys in the Mailbox

As created by renowned illustrator Gary Baseman, Disney's Teacher's Pet spins the wistful tale of Spot, a dog who wants to be a boy, but whose mad scientist/would-be benefactor miscalculates his dog-year math and gives the hapless hound the body of a middle-aged man instead. But as did South Park before it, the film adaptation of the Emmy honored series trumps its small-screen rival with an ambitious musical soundtrack that's not only an unexpected delight, but one whose songs and performances sometimes rival many an over-hyped, contemporary Broadway stage production in the bargain. After the bouncing teeny pop of co-star Christy Carlson Romano's title track cover dispenses with the youth marketing angle, the album settles into a collection that's split between the more traditional show sensibilities of songwriters Cheri Steinkeller, Randy Peterson and Kevin Quinn and Stephen James Taylor's more contemporary pop/swing/rock pastiche underscore. Broadway vet Nathan Lane infuses his title role with dollops of loopy sincerity and charm on the opening "I Wanna Be a Boy," the wistful ballad "A Boy Needs a Dog" and elsewhere, while Kelsey Grammer imparts his mad scientist turn "I, Ivan Krank" with a delightful, perfectly-pitched hammy bravura. Underappreciated musician/actor Jack Sheldon swings merrily through "Take the Money and Run" while Debra Jo Rupp, David Ogden Stiers, Megan Mullally, Jerry Stiller, Shaun Fleming and Paul Reubens variously make even the briefest of turns memorable on the singalong "Whole Bunch of World," the merry march "Small But Mighty" and the goofy canine affirmation of "Proud To Be a Dog." --Jerry McCulley

Fantastic.......2004-02-04
This is a very good CD. "Teacher's Pet" is my favorite song on the CD.
The following is a reply to CowPunk©'s question:
"What I really wanna know is; who did this arrangement of the 1956 Joe Lubin tune "Teacher's Pet"? (Doris Day recorded it in 1958)
It's driving me wacky... I know it had to be one of my old '80's power pop faves now making a living in Toon Town cuz their kids are watching the same shows as mine. Which is cool- just who is it? I do love that Power Pop sound.
CowPunk©"
No, that's Christy Carlson Romano. She played Ren Stevens in "Even Stevens" and voices Kim in "Kim Possible"(both Disney Channel series).
I agree about the sound.
Better than Broadway.......2004-01-21
The happiest score in years! These are songs to memorize and sing along with. More fun than a B'way cast album. Think of South Park, Family Guy or Simpsons, except that everyone can join in the song-fest!
Disney's Teacher's Pet.......2004-01-20
Certainly some of the tunes are funny and some homages to Disney classics contained therein. Redeeming social value? Get a life! I believe the soundtrack in this case is worthless without the visuals. Anyway, "Teacher's Pet" is much better as a 30 min TV gig.

Homages R Us.......2004-01-20
I'd like to discuss this soundtrack with anyone interested...especially you, Bondorf. My email address is Janarrah1@aol.com....I think this soundtrack was fairly radical for Disney...almost on par with the South Park soundtrack. ONe of the songs struck me as a (sunconcious?) take on "Be Prepared" from The Lion King...but since they got away with using the Blue Fairy/Pincocchio riff and this is a Disney production, the rules of fair use are pretty flexible. What other songs did any of you hear echos of in this soundtrack?

A GEM FROM THE PRINCESS THEATRE . . . .......2005-09-07
I agree with Mr. Behrens that this recording is a "must" for anyone serious about the American musical theatre, but I found the whole thing a trifle boring. (I would have given it 3 stars, but I was worried about turning people off.) The performances are splendid, and the original orchestrations for 10 pieces are a delight to hear. Upon hearing the overture, you might think you're listening to a superb digital restoration of an early 1900's recording. It's a gas.
Mr. Behrens states that the score contains neither a hit nor a miss and is an "improvement on the bubbleheaded competition," but the operettas of Sigmund Romberg, Rudolph Friml, Victor Herbert, et.al, were overflowing with far better songs than Jerome Kern would write for this or any other Princess Theatre Show. Many of the lyrics for "Eddie" are pretty inane, typical for the time, however. Kern wrote a much better score two years later for "Leave It to Jane" (1917), lyrics provided by long time collaborator P.G. Wodehouse. (A wonderful recording of the 1958 revival of "Jane" is available on AEI Records.) With Lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein, II, Jerome Kern wrote "Show Boat" in 1927, giving us the first truly great American musical. He also contributed some of Hollywood's most memorable songs, including "A Fine Romance," "The Way You Look Tonight," and "The Last Time I Saw Paris."
(...)
A musical as it used to be.......1999-10-24
My fellow reviewer from Monterey Mass. hit the nail on the head. Though not as good as some of the "Princess Theater" shows to come ("Oh, Boy," "Oh, Lady, Lady," and the rest--this musical is quite an improvement on the bubbleheaded competition it had not only in its own time but long after it. It is also a relief from the "musical play" that replaced the musical comedy. Not a single hit song and not a single poor one in the whole show that was a pioneer of the great "integrated" shows to come, not the least of which would be Kern's own "Show Boat." This is a must for every serious collection of Broadway shows.
Wonderful version of a charming show.......1998-09-08
This is a 1915 show but it has more snap and charm than the current long melodramas that masquerade as entertainment
