CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL JUST KEEPS ROCKIN' AND ROLLIN'........2007-02-13
I will be writing a review on the legendary compilation album entitled "CHRONICLE, VOLUME TWO, TWENTY GREAT CCR CLASSICS" by one of Rock's most sacred legendary bands of all-time, I give you one of America's pride and joy's, CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL. This legendary album would be originally released in 1986 on Vinyl/LP, Cassette and Compact Disc on the Fantasy Records label. Like "CHRONICLE, VOLUME ONE, 20 GREATEST HITS," "CHRONICLE, VOLUME TWO, 20 GREAT CCR CLASSICS is released on a special Two-24-Karat Gold Compact Disc set edition. The 24-Karat Gold coating produces a highly reflective surface for the laser signal. In fact, the Gold CD is the ultimate experience in recorded music. As always, if I hear any new additional information concerning this legendary compilation album or the artist, I will edit this review immediately so that you the consumer will get the best informative and most accurate review possible.
The whole world was blessed with the original "CHRONICLE, VOLUME ONE, 20 GREATEST HITS" when it was released in 1976. Now the whole world would be blessed again ten years later with the release of "CHRONICLE, VOLUME TWO, TWENTY GREAT CCR CLASSICS" in 1986. Its only appropriate that Fantasy Records would release another compilation collection on this legendary band, there was just not enough room to put all of their hit songs on the first volume. When you listen to "CHRONICLE, VOLUME TWO, TWENTY GREAT CCR CLASSICS," you realize that this band really recorded some fantastic hits throughout their whole career. It also makes you wonder what took Fantasy Records so long (Ten years) to release the second volume. In my opinion, "CHRONICLE, VOLUME TWO, TWENTY GREAT CCR CLASSICS" is another true testament of the sheer greatness, graceful genius and a fine tribute to a legendary band that has already been proven to be ahead of their time.
Now we get to the most important part of the whole review, the music. If you want to hear the true Rocker's on this compilation album, listen to the songs such as "Walk On The Water," "Susie Q (Part two)," the breathtaking "Born On The Bayou," the Little Richard classic "Good Golly Miss Molly," the rugged "Tombstone Shadow," "It Came Out Of The Sky," the Elvis like Rocker "My Baby Left Me," the wicked "Pagan Baby," the soulful heartfelt "It's Just A Thought," the tough rockin' "Molina," the spirited "Born To Move" and the Ricky Nelson classic "Hello Mary Lou."
The slow Rock Ballads on this compilation album are the classics such as "Wrote A Song For Everyone" and "(Wish I Could) Hideaway." CCR could really show their sensitive side by playing a little more mellower.
The only slow Blues Rocker on this compilation album is the classic song "Night Time Is The Right Time." This Blues number is a true heartfelt song recorded the CCR way. CCR could really play the Blues.
The Country Rockers on this compilation album are the classic songs such as "Cotton Fields," "Don't Look Now (It Ain't You Or Me)," the ever popular "The Midnight Special," "Before You Accuse Me" and "Lookin' For A Reason." These are pure Country Rockers, my favorite is "The Midnight Special."
Overall, this is one hell of compilation album that compliments the other original volume perfectly.
I would like to highly recommend purchasing this second volume compilation album to own as a valuable and important part of his or her own personal music collection. This legendary compilation album has already been proven to stand the test of time and will always be around to be enjoyed, appreciated and cherished for many years to come, NOW AND FOREVER.
In closing, CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL will forever be remembered as the people's band that represented the youth culture and the bikers of the turbulent sixties and beyond. Their music expressed the feeling of how the times were unfolding during the turbulent sixties and into the seventies. When CCR broke up, one of Rock's greatest all-time bands would be silenced and laid to rest. The world was waiting for a reunion but all hopes would be shattered with the untimely death of TOM FOGERTY on 6 September 1990. FOGERTY would die as a result of AIDS given to him through a blood transfusion. Prior to his death, the FOGERTY brothers did not get along and would be fighting constantly throughout their whole career together. TOM FOGERTY was establishing himself in his own right as a songwriter and singer but remained in the shadow of his brother JOHN FOGERTY throughout their whole career. TOM FOGERTY would be the first CCR member to quit the band and go solo. CCR would later break up in 1972. However, the remaining surviving members would have a brief reunion while receiving Rock's highest ultimate honor of being inducted into the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame in January 1993. As of this date, JOHN FOGERTY resolved his conflict issues and legal disputes with his old record label Fantasy Records and is now back with his old label better than ever keeping the CCR legend alive. So here's to you John, the late great Tom, Stu and Clifford. And as the saying goes, "AND THE REST IS ROCK N ROLL HISTORY," am I wrong? Thanks for reading my review and I hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it for your reading pleasure. I also hope that you will read all of my other reviews in the near future when time permits. CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL LIVES. JOHN FOGERTY RULES. R.I.P. TOM FOGERTY, Born 9 November 1941, Died 6 September 1990. Long Live Rock n' Roll. Rock out always and take it easy. Forever In Rock, John L.
Chronicles 2: Twenty great CCR Classics by Creedence Clearwater Revival.......2007-01-19
The band CCR formed during the turbulent times of the 60s and early 70s, they gave poetic justice to that period with original compositions and made even greater classics out of old tunes. They created entertaining melodies with political fore-thought. They did this without profanity nor by debasing the religious beliefs of others...unlike many of today's young artists. This album deserves five stars.

A Collection that epitomizes Delbert's accomplishments.......1998-11-25
To answer the proverbial desert island question, as it would pertain to only one Delbert McClinton album, "Plain from the Heart" must be the choice of a true Delbert enthusiast. From the raucous, can't keep your seat, gotta dance and sing-along tunes such as "Rooster Blues" and "I Wanna Thank You Baby" to the slower, thought-provoking, and lyrical classics like "I've Got Dreams to Remember" and "Lipstick Traces", Delbert makes all the songs he sings his own, with his inimitable vocals and arrangements. Even a remake or cover like "In the Midnight Hour" is a new experience when a musician like Delbert can make you feel like HE feels. Delbert can make us feel that way, because you can't help but feel tha Delbert is one of us, and we are one of him. So, I strongly suggest you go to your desert island, take along "Plain from the Heart" (and maybe an extra long extension cord), kick back with "plenty o' red wine, a whole lotta sunshine" and Delbert McClinton on the "Sandy Beaches".

Excellent compilation, very few 'clinkers'........1998-07-30
Very appealing if you like OLD music ... however, that doesn't mean boring. I have vol.1 & vol.2 and they are both good. This CD seems to have more 'back porch' and less studio recordings than vol.1 ... but then there isn't a lot of difference with this kind of music. Get them both.

Customer Reviews:
Frequency modulation .......2005-11-09
I love this CD.
It's like a perfect little mix, circa 68-71, but in addition to music both popular ("I Got a Line on You," "Eight Miles High," "Alone Again Or") and more obscure ("The City," "Barabajagal"), it also contains resin-tinged commericals for jeans and waterbeds, news announcements, ads for concerts and commentary by uber-smooth L.A. DJ B. Mitchell Reed.
Basically, it's like listening to 73 minutes of California FM radio during its best period.
I got the other volume first, years ago, the one with Tom Donahue, and I liked it for the most part because I dug the concept and Donahue is endlessly amiable, but the tunes in that collection didn't fit together as seamlessly, and I knew almost all of them.
On this second volume, the raps are integrated more ironically and the song selection is just stronger and more unified in tone.
Makes me yearn for the pre-Clear Channel radio era, or at least for the left-of-the-dial college radio, both of which are now pretty much gone forever.
little slice o history; freeform underground radio.......2003-05-25
B Mitchell Reed was one of the founders of freeform rock and roll radio in the mid to late 60s. He, Tom Donahue, Dave Diamond, Uncle T., and others created a new medium, one which made the DJ more than a disc spinner. He became the radio listener's friend and advisor, and his choices of tunes(called a set) helped shape the evening. He would also hip you in to good concerts around town, happenings, etc. A typical set would run 3 to 6 tunes, sometimes with a common theme; Say, Casey Jones by the Dead, Traintime by Cream, and Train, Train by Blackfoot. The commercials are also very low-key and listener-friendly. This CD has excerpts from some shows from those times. it really does give you a feel of what radio was like in those days. BMR is so cool that Joni Mitchell wrote a song about him....
Is FM Radio Cool?.......2000-10-03
Since the advent of the F.M. rock radio format in the early 70's, A.M. radio has been relegated to the status of "uncool", which is more than unfair. A.M. radio lives on in the hearts of "real" radio fans, who listen to the likes of Art Bell and Jay Marvin(WLS Chicago). These guys are the true "rogues" of the airwaves, discussing relevant issues and stirring up the rebel in all of us. For me, the "real" underground radio is still found on A.M.
An Eclectic Gem!.......2000-06-01
This interesting compilation of favorite tracks played by the immortal DJ, B. Mitchel Reed, is a must for any lovers of free-form radio and obscure music tracks. While tracks by artists such as The Byrds and Steppenwolf are familiar classics now, the clear standouts are Jefferson Airplane's version of "Wooden Ships," and Brewer and Shipley's terrific cover of Jim Pepper's rockin' "Witchi-Tai-To." The late Mike Bloomfield's guitar mastery is evident on the Electric Flag's "Killing Floor," and Tina Turner manages to make "Honky Tonk Women" more interesting than the original. Perhaps what's best of all are BMR's signature voiceovers and commercials in between the tracks that really put this CD over the top. Highly recommended for all radio and music lovers!
FM Radio When It WAS Cool!.......2000-01-20
Think FM radio is cool now? Check out one of the founding fathers of FM Rock Radio. BMR rocks and so does the music. BMR is gone but through this CD he and the music live on

Customer Reviews:
A generous sampler of Rural Rhythm's rusticity, rootsy sounds, and historical value.......2007-01-03
With over 50 years in business, Rural Rhythm Records has built a catalog that connects many dots from past to present. Since its 1955 creation, Rural Rhythm has released hundreds of classic performances by many legendary bluegrass and old-time musicians such as J.E. Mainer, Don Reno, Red Smiley, Mac Wiseman, Vassar Clements, Hylo Brown, Bill Harrell, Jim Eanes, and many others. This album samples that archival catalog. The label owes its Arcadia, California start to Uncle Jim O'Neal whose vision was to release the music of many top bluegrass and old-time musicians in the 1950-70s, seeking success where Starday had failed by producing records of limited appeal by lesser known, albeit talented, musicians. Early ads for records released by Uncle Jim O'Neal stated that the LPs sold for only $3.50 apiece. The self-professed "Little Cotton Picker," O'Neal also took an approach of releasing 20 songs on each 33 1/3 RPM album. These would have been great bargains in the mid-1960s when major label monaural records (with only about a dozen songs) were selling for $3.98 and stereophonic records were $4.98. The items still sold well, and Rural Rhythm Records thrived and flourished.
A sampler such as this CD will give you a taste of the large and varied Rural Rhythm musical archive. Featured bands/artists inlcude Don Reno & Bill Harrell, Reno & Smiley, Mac Martin & The Dixie Travelers, Frosty Mountain Boys with Raymond Fairchild, Mac Wiseman, Earl Taylor & Jim McCall, Jim Greer & The Mac-O-Chee Valley Boys, J.E. Mainer (with Morris Herbert), Jim Eanes & Bobby Atkins, Fiddlin' Buck Ryan, The Sometime Band (with Bobby Atkins & Vassar Clements), Bobby Smith & The Boys From Shiloh
The label continues to demonstrate great business acumen in both issuing and reissuing traditional material to give it the attention and respect it deserves. Resurgence of interest in such material compels music fans with intellectual or fanatical streaks to dig deep into such archival material and seek it out. Songcarriers and musicologists would be particularly interested in this type of archival material. Don't expect to hear many vocal harmonies, elaborate arrangements or the same level of clarion studio recording quality we hear today. Most of the cuts span about 2 minutes apiece. Just enjoy and relive a classic bluegrass sound of yesteryear. The strength of a sampler like this is its inherent rusticity, rootsy sounds, and historical value. If you're a traditional bluegrass fan, you're sure to discover artists for further exploration. (Joe Ross, staff writer, Bluegrass Now)

Could Be Much Better.......2004-01-05
I am a big Firefall fan. I am also spoiled rotten that they are local in the Denver area, and I get to see them regularly in small pubs. Quite often The Little Bear in Evergreen. What kills me is this..... They are the most phenominal band to see live. They jam out on their songs like you can't even imagine! Some of the best gutar solo's I have ever seen come from Jock Bartly. Unfortunately this CD doesn't give the seeker of those jams what they are after. I have even mentioned that to the band after their small venue shows......and they agree there is nothing out there that we all are seeking. Who knows if it will ever come. But!!! See them LIVE ! They are amazing! PLEASE GUYS !! Give us one of those Little Bear or Patrick's Pub shows on a CD..... PLEASE !......... Jim, Pine Colorado
Nostalga tours aren't always best........2003-05-06
I loved them when I first saw them decades ago. I wish I had left them in my memories. First, the sound quality on this album is muddled, which with today's technology there is no excuse for this. As for the band itself, their strengh was their song writing and their harmonizing. This live concert demonstrates just how weak their individual vocals have grown over the years or maybe my memories have made them better than they were decades ago live.
In this recording, at times, the harmonizing is good but the solo's leading up to them are almost painful to listen to. The instrumentals are also muddled by the mixing.
The only positive I can say is their best known songs are all here, but a greatest hits album would be preferable, as there is no effort to make new interpretations, or different arrangments with the cuts as many artist are doing with live material these days. Basically, this album is just live versions of the original recordings and not played, sung, recorded, or mixed well. Greatest hits or best of albums are available. If you are a die hard fan, maybe you need this album. Otherwise, save your money.
