Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Most Complete Set Available, But..........2007-06-24

Ronnie Milsap had 59 hits that reached the Top 40 of the Country charts between 1973 and 1993. Six of his hits also crossed over and hit the Top 40 of the Pop charts. This 2 CD set has forty of those hits, and is the most complete collection currently available. Unfortunately, the mastering of this set is not as good as the mastering of the single CD "Ultimate Ronnie Milsap". The "Ultimate" CD has better-defined bass and brighter highs--the "Essential" set is dull by comparison. If you need all forty songs, then "Essential" is truly that, but "Ultimate" is the better choice for the casual fan. For the true fanatic, get both.

4 out of 5 stars Missing Goodies.......2007-05-07

I'm still hoping Ronnie will release some of his great hits like,
Two Hearts Don't Always Make A Pair
Everywhere I Turn, Is Your Memory
All I Can Do
She Thinks I Still Care
He'll Have To Go
plus plenty more............

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful, Wonderful, Wonderful........2007-04-20

Thanks to the previous reviewers, I picked the Correct CD to purchase. I read almost all the reviews for guidance and they have not let me down yet. I'm a real Ronnie Milsap fan. All of his songs are my favorite, but the one that has meant the most to me for all of 30 years is "Just in Case" and I don't find it on a lot of CDs. If you could buy only one Ronnie Milsap CD, this is the one I would reccommend.

5 out of 5 stars Ronnie Milsap.......2007-04-15

I was looking for a collection of Ronnie Milsap's hits I remember hearing on the radio. This was the best collection I could hope to find. This is the only cd I needed.

5 out of 5 stars ESSENTIAL FOR THE MILSAP FAN!.......2007-03-22

This CD is wonderful! It took me back to the first years of my marriage and our first daughter's birth. I know it sounds corny! I'm a music fanatic...what can I say! Ronnie Milsap is one of country's best.

5 out of 5 stars ONE OF THE BEST.......2004-11-12

ALL AROUND EXCELLENT ONE SONG BETTER THAN THE NEXT. A TRULY ENJOYABLE CD FOR ANY RONNIE FAN

4 out of 5 stars She thinks i still care.......2004-09-11

I am hunting for the CD containing "she thinks I still care" by Milsap. One of the greatest tracks he ever sang. the music and his mesmerizing voice has it all :)

5 out of 5 stars Best single disc set available on Milsap.......2003-04-17

Ronnie Milsap is one of the most productive artists RCA ever had with continuous chart appearance between 1973 and 1992. This Essential Collection is comprised of hits between 1979 and 1992 (a second volume of the earlier hits was promised but never released). Of the 20 recordings found here, 16 made number one on the country charts. Even more impressive is the variety of styles Milsap adopted in his music. He gets very soulful on a remake of Barbara Lewis' "Snap Your Fingers" and nostalgic on the doo-wop flavored "Lost In The Fifties Tonight." Hard blues gets a nice workout on "Stranger In My House." And just when you think he was getting firmly rooted in straight pop like "Any Day Now" or "Make No Mistake (She's Mine)", he would return to his honkytonk roots on a ditty like "All Is Fair In Love And War." With so many hits, it is not surprising that this Essential collection avoids album cuts and previously unreleased tracks. What you do get is a consistently entertaining, well-balanced set that is far superior to the numerous 10 cut sets RCA had already released.

Since this collection's release, a double disc 40 number one hits retrospective has come out. It is the best Milsap overview available. If you can only afford one disc however, this is the set to get.

3 out of 5 stars Obsolete.......2000-08-04

Milsap's "40 #1 HITS" collection makes this one obsolete. That one includes everything you'll find here except "All's Fair in Love and War" & "Turn That Radio On", & does include many hits that should be included on any "essential" Milsap collection. Well worth the extra money.

5 out of 5 stars Country Soul at Its Finest.......2000-05-27

As one of the triumvirite that ruled the pop/country crossover market of the late 70's and early 80's (the other two were Kenny Rogers and Charlie Rich), Ronnie Milsap has always been a favorite of mine. "The Essential Ronnie Milsap" features hits such as "Nobody likes Sad Songs," "Any Day Now," and "Lost in the Fifties Tonight." The twenty cuts are all noteworthy, with a special recognition to Milsap's duet with Rogers entitled "Make No Mistake, She's Mine."

It is unfortunate that a later release "True Believer" is unavailable for purchase at Amazon. This 1993 release is a superlative showcase for the always musically satisfying Mr.Milsap.
