4 out of 5 stars RCA vs. ARISTA version.......2006-06-01

Hello to everybody. Someone told me that the ARISTA (anerican) version contains an unreleased track and a live track plus than the RCA (english) version. Someone have more info about?
Many thanks in advance.

4 out of 5 stars A listening delight for fans.......2006-04-27

Well, just play me some "Mountain Music." It's been 25 years since Alabama signed its first record deal with RCA, and in celebration RCA/Legacy has released the three-disc box set Alabama: Livin' Lovin' Rockin' Rollin': The 25th Anniversary Collection, covering the Alabama phenomenon.

Unlike 2005's The Essential Alabama set, this collection cherry picks songs from across the years. Plenty of hits are to be had as well as eight previously unreleased tracks. The set comes with a detailed 52-page book with photos, band timeline, track annotations and an essay by Robert Oermann. This set tells about the band's legacy and gives you an understanding of why RIAA named them the "Country Band of the Century."

From the get go, disc 1 captures you with "My Home's In Alabama (Live)," "Forty Hour Week (For A Livin')," an anthem for millions of people, and a seven-plus minute medley of "That Silver Haired Daddy of Mine/Suppertime/Teach Your Children/Don't It Make You Want To Go Home." This is followed by "Mountain Music," which always gets my foot tapping.

Disc 2 starts out with "Feels So Right," a song that millions (me included) slow danced to many times in the '80s. A song that surprised me was Alabama's version of "God Must Have Spent A Little More Time on You," with 'N Sync doing the harmony vocals. Though 'N Sync made the song famous, Alabama added real feeling to it. Granted, they're different music genres, but it's the quintessential Alabama that has been keeping it "real" all these years while America's popular music tastes have varied widely from the artificial sounding '80s, the grunge '90s and whatever it's called today.

Disc 3 just keeps the good music rolling and finishes off with an interesting trio of songs, the story-telling "Ripperly O'Tucke (Demo)," the name dropping "Hats Off" and ending appropriately with "The Fans."

51 songs including almost two dozen number one songs, over half a dozen live/alternate versions, and eight previously unreleased tracks, Livin' Lovin' Rockin' Rollin' is worthy of anyone's music collection.

"We hope you remember, we are just the boys in the band. And what keeps the fires a'burnin,' is always, you the fans." Many fans remember fondly all right. Alas, the band's retirement from the road won't keep fans from looking forward to more recordings.

5 out of 5 stars Must Have.......2006-03-20

This Anniversary album is a must have for anyone who appreciates what country music is all about. The group's timeline and explanation of how each song on the album came to be is great. The pictures provided are awesome and help explain their roots in Ft. Payne, AL and what the "Boys" have accomplished. The mix of songs is great and a few that I'd never heard before. If you don't have it, get it.

5 out of 5 stars A rich, career spanning box set.......2006-02-24

In celebration of 25 years since their signing to RCA, the newly formed RCA/Legacy has issued the group's first triple-disc set. In contrast to 2005's two-disc "Essential" set, this collection is more of a full band biography than a straightforward recitation of their chart hits. There are hits to be heard (including nearly two-dozen #1s, seventeen in their original studio incarnation, and a half-dozen in live or alternate versions), but there's also a good helping of cherry-picked album tracks, and eight previously unreleased sides. Together with the richly detailed 52-page book (which includes a lengthy essay by Robert Oermann, track annotations, a band timeline and a generous helping of rare photos), this is a lot more than a triple-CD set, it's a package that tells the band's entire story, including their chronology, live performances, and, as mentioned, a good helping of their incredible string of hits.

Over the course of their 22 years with RCA, Alabama defined what it was to be a successful country music band. In an industry dominated by star singers and their backing players, Alabama looked to both the '70s Southern rock experience (Allmans, et al.) and the twangy style of Nashville to forge a new country identity. Their electric guitars and drums are topped with pure country harmonies, and their songs (both originals and those picked up from others' pens) were down-home. While the rock world was busy with the purposely artificial sounds of new wave throughout the '80s, Alabama kept the guitars and drums burning, particularly in their live performances, and turned out touching ballads with equal ease. Their '90s hits like "I'm in a Hurry (and Don't Know Why)" are prime examples of how modern country could take in pop influences without becoming crossover mush, and latter-day top-20s like "The Cheap Seats" and "Born Country" are filled with warmth.

Those looking to understand Alabama's chart dominance may be better served by last year's two-disc set, but anyone who wants to learn (or relive) the band's whole story would be well-served by this new set. Longtime fans will enjoy the opportunity to recount select album tracks, listen to several well-known hits in live versions (and in the case of "Face to Face," an alternate studio take), and hear unreleased items that include the one-off 1982 live medley of "That Silver Haired Daddy of Mine / Suppertime / Teach Your Children / Don't It Make You Want to Go Home" and the 1973 Randy Owen acoustic demo of "Ripperly O'Tucke." Those who first heard these songs in their original release may find the lack of chronological ordering to be disconcerting, but overall the programming flows smoothly.

This isn't the all-encompassing Alabama box set that will satiate everyone's needs - there are far too many hits missing, or replaced by live versions to be definitive. But as a retelling of the rise and sustained artistry of country music's most successful band - the band that defined success as a country music group - it's a winner. I love this CD! Wanda Jackson does rockabilly like no one else can!
Such excitement and twang it's absolutely the best I ever heard!

Rock on Wanda!!! You blew me away with this CD! You are Great!

5 out of 5 stars Killer Rockabilly/great teen angst.......2005-07-26

What a great CD this is. I was introduced to Wanda Jackson at the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville where I saw her in a video singing Hard Headed Woman. It just knocked me out. And this CD shows it was not a fluke. Wanda just rocks with the best of the men. This ranks right up there with Carl Perkins and Billy Lee Riley. Rock Your Baby, Fujiyama Mama, Honey Bop - a great rockabilly. But there's more! Songs like You're the One for Me and Did You Miss Me? are teen love songs that are just as good as anything from Connie Stevens or any other teen queen of the 50's or 60's.

This is just a great album. And the price is incredible.

5 out of 5 stars Jackson's peak as a rockabilly filly!.......2003-05-14

Having struck gold as a rockabilly filly, Jackson pumped up the volume for her second Capitol Records album, and many of these tracks will be familiar to oldies fans -- "Mean Mean Man," Honey Bop," "Hot Dog! That Made Him Mad," and "Fujiyama Mama," which made her a celebrity in Japan (despite its iffy cultural politics). This CD reissue includes a half dozen songs taken off old singles, and are all hard country (or teenpop) ballads, tasty treats for the discerning fan. Highly recommended!

5 out of 5 stars Expanded reissue of top-notch rockabilly collection.......2002-12-06

This sterling reissue of Jackson's 1960 compilation of rockabilly sides shows just why she's so highly regarded by rockabilly aficionados. Jackson blazed the trail with and for the small number of original female rockabillies, cementing her place as one of the genre's legends. Capitol's reissue is a treasure chest sporting original cover art, bonus singles and B-sides, detailed liner notes, and period photos.

1960's "Rockin' With Wanda" cherry-picked a dozen sides (augmented on this reissue with six more) waxed between 1956 and 1959. Included are the iconic rockabilly hits "Fujiyama Mama," "Honey Bop," "Hot Dog! That Made Him Mad," and the self-penned "Mean Mean Man" and "Rock Your Baby." In contrast, "You've Turned To A Stranger" is sung as a twangy country ballad, and "I Gotta Know" splits its time between rockabilly and waltz (as does "I Wanna Waltz" on her debut album, "Wanda Jackson"). Bonus tracks include pure country B-sides "Sinful Heart" and "Reaching," and the cool soul of "Savin' My Love."

Backed by world-class picking from Buck Owens, Joe Maphis, and Ralph Mooney (among other luminaries), Jackson is utterly authoritative on everything she sings. This, and the accompanying "Wanda Jackson" reissue are equally essential.

Album Description

Always revered for marathon concerts, The Dead's famed 1972 tour of Europe is roundly hailed as one of their finest live jaunts ever. And this inspired (and rare) 3-CD recording presents one of the most stellar shows from that now-fabled sweep of the continent. The first complete show release from that tour, Rockin' The Rhein - never before heard on pro audio - captures the Dead at their legendary best.

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Great, but i little inconvenient.......2007-02-19

this cd is great, but it has three cds in it and all the best songs r spread out between them (or at least my favs), but if i want to listen to all of my favorites, i've gotta cart around all 3 of the cds...:( i don't have a ipod. Other wise, it's great, but i just wish Truckin and Casey Jones were all on the same cd. but this is great if u do have an ipod or other mp3 device

5 out of 5 stars One of the Strangest but Best Sets in the History of the Dead.......2007-02-19

3 CD set of the well-documented Europe '72 tour- April 24, 1972 complete. Disc Three (Set Three) starts out with a 26 minute Dark Star for the ages, but then suddenly out of nowhere "Me And My Uncle" phones in for three minutes --then we are transported back to the center of the Universe for another 15 minute Dark Star coda. Almost 45 minutes of dark star then one of the best Wharf Rat renderings and the jam still isn't over...we end up at Sugar Magnolia.

And you still have disc one and two!

5 out of 5 stars German-English Genuine Cognates.......2006-12-28

The Europe '72 tour was a fertile one for the Grateful Dead. It lead to the Europe '72 live double album, probably one of their most flattering official live releases (a personal favorite of Tipper Gore's, believe it or not), as well as One Hundred Year Hall and Steppin' Out. And now Rocking the Rhein, which is billed as the first-ever official complete show release from the tour. They were energized and playing well back then. It was probably hard to limit the original Europe '72 album to a single version of each song when they were playing so well all around.

The Dead were uncharacteristically chatty on that night, April 24th, 1972, under German skies (meanwhile, back in Skokie, Illinois, I was cruising along the edges of furniture, contemplating taking my first steps.) Lots of on stage banter between songs, from cornball goofiness ("I say, my dog has no nose," "then how does he smell?"...), to charitable edification (after playing "El Paso," Bobby steps up to the mike to explain: "The hero dies.") I presume they were freed up by the assumption that their audience was primarily non-English speaking.

And, we have the moment when Bobby introduces newcomer Donna Jean Godchaux. Imagine the anticipation of the crowd. Of course, she is awful. Right out of the gate, she launches into a soulful wail that is nothing but sour notes. I feel bad saying it, I'm sure she's a nice person, and I'm no accomplished vocalist myself. But I didn't stand up there night after night and ruin nearly a decade's worth of bootlegs. Still, the German hosts are generous (or intoxicated?) and they give Donna a warm welcome.

Beyond the history of the gig, the music was great. Disc three has a "Dark Star" into "Me and My Uncle" back into "Dark Star," that is nearly forty-five minutes long altogether. Over ten minutes pass before the first words of the first verse, which is generally a good sign. It is a dense and rigorous Dark Star, with Jerry reaching in all directions up high battling Phil's Teutonic-tinged bass grumbles that lurk and menace throughout, anchoring the music down yet threatening to erupt at any moment. When the "Me and My Uncle" broke through, I burst into laughter. Standing shoulder to shoulder to armpit on the train in the rush commute, iPod buds in place, I burst into laughter and people turned. I had become one of those guys on the train, and I didn't care.

Also great: The ChinaCat/Rider is great, Truckin', Tennessee Jed, a great Mr. Charlie, always nice to hear Casey Jones, and Pigpen's vocals and organ soloing on "Hurts Me Too" are classic.

5 out of 5 stars Whew!!!.......2006-10-13

This is a mindblower. I like this one better than Steppin' Out and it has a better mix too. Just get it with Hundred Year Hall. The Dark Star jam is one for the ages.

5 out of 5 stars Pigpen's night.......2006-03-09

I'm just starting to become a true fan of Pigpen. Earlier, I just didn't get him and I would constantly skip forward to more of the GD extended jams. Lately, I've started to get what he was all about and what made him such an important part of the early dead shows. I'm glad I picked up this set.
It's Pigpen's night and we should all be happy for this nice memory. Pick it up.

Note: the rest of the band has some fine moments too!!

Blaine Larsen's 2005 debut revealed a talented 19-year-old whose passionate delivery and traditionalist bent belied his youth. At 20, those assets remain intact. After a bracing start with the witty Tejano-flavored "I Don't Know What She Said," he delivers "Let Alone You" in homage to his longtime hero George Strait (who had first dibs on recording the song). The acerbic humor and furious, careening arrangement of "No Woman" is balanced by the thoughtful affirmation of marital fidelity in "I'm in Love with a Married Woman." In Larsen's hands, Mac Davis's 1972 pop hit "Baby Don't Get Hooked on Me" seems fresh and new. His duet with Gretchen Wilson on "Lips of a Bottle" transcends Music Row's usual "vocal event" gimmickry to recapture the feel of the best George Jones/Tammy Wynette duets. As on the first album, Larsen again reflects maturity beyond his years with the somber social commentary of "Someone Is Me" and the powerfully inspirational "At the Gate." While sophomore efforts are often letdowns, Larsen projects here the same heart, humor, and excellence--perhaps a bit more. --Rich Kienzle

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars A New kind of feel country.......2007-01-11

First album I listened his sound. Good sound, Cool voice, guitar. I prefer adding more acoustical songs or female chorus. I hope next album .

5 out of 5 stars Five plus..........2006-09-09

I can't add more to what has already been said. Except, This is simply a "MUST HAVE" CD.

5 out of 5 stars Keep 'em coming.......2006-08-27

For a young man, Blaine Larsen has a wonderfully mature voice. This, his second CD, is even better than his first. You won't be disappointed by buying this CD. The CD is shock full of good tunes, unlike most CDs which only have one or two good songs on them.

4 out of 5 stars +1/2 -- Superb 2nd LP from astounding young country talent.......2006-07-24

Larsen's sophomore release disproves the idea that you have the initial years of your life to record a debut, and scramble to put together the follow-up. Not only has his preternaturally mature voice become even more sophisticated, but he convincingly transcends the high-school material of his debut and slips comfortably into songs about dating, relationships and marriage. On raw ability alone -- tone, control, phrasing -- Larsen vaults past the current crop of young Nashville stars to grab your ears with the emotional depth of country music's most iconic voices. He sounds old-school even amid the overly polished performances of Nashville's studio pros, a credit to producers who let him sing unabashedly country.

Highlights include the album's sweetly funny lead single "I Don't Know What She Said," the post-high school John Mellancamp-styled romantic loss of "Rockin' You Tonight," and the Gretchen Wilson duet "Lips of a Bottle." Mac Davis' "Baby Don't Get Hooked On Me" uses Larsen's low register to terrific effect, and the socially conscious "Someone is Me," also recently recorded by Kenny Rogers, is a great fit for a 20-year-old. Throughout, Larsen's confidence and natural way with song tempos amplify his natural gifts. 4-1/2 stars, if allowed fractional ratings. [©2006 redtunictroll at hotmail dot com]

5 out of 5 stars Great Songs: Things That Move Me.......2006-06-19

"I just love great songs, things that move me, and they could be about anything, so there's a wide variety of subjects. The music should make me feel something, make you want to cry or get up and dance. Thematically, we explored more adult subjects, and that might be the big thing people notice. I was 16 when I did some of the songs on the last album, and a lot has happened since then." Blaine Larsen talks about his new CD at the ripe old age of 20.

The magic of Blaine Larsen is his rich baritone voice. It is the voice of a much older man, much like his hero George Strait. The songs that Blaine sings are a reflection of his country roots, straight-ahead, traditionalist country. Blaine Larsen is from Washington State, and he developed his country flare from his step-dad. He began singing at an early age and at the age of 16 had his first country CD.

This is the second CD for Blaine Larsen and with his rich voice he finds himself opening for Gretchen Wilson on her "Redneck Redemption Tour"

He also sings with Gretchen Wilson on the song, "Lips of a Bottle". Blaine wrote this song with a friend form Washington state. This duet brings back the feeling of George Jones/ Tammy Wynette.

The first song, is a witty, ditty "I Don't Know What She Said," a song about language differences in Mexico, and it has become a Top Forty on the Country Music Charts.

My favorite song is Mac Davis's 1972 pop hit "Baby Don't Get Hooked on Me". It seems fresh and new sung by Blaine Larsen.

"I'm In Love With A Married Woman" gives us a fresh look at love and sung with some sensitivity. He has surprise for us with this one.

He has a somber commentary of "Someone Is Me" and the delivery is sweet.

"At the Gate" is an inspirational tune that talks about his family and friends who have died and he remembers fondly.

This is a CD of note, and one I have listened to several times. He's delivered a terrific album, one that qualifies as a totally unexpected and wholly enjoyable surprise. Blaine Larsen projects heart, humor, and excellence.
Highly Recommended. prisrob 06-18-06

4 out of 5 stars Not-So-Good Album Cover, but GREAT songs!.......2007-06-15

We have a joke in Atlanta: "Didja hear about those two ***s that attacked that woman? One of 'em held her down, and the other one did her hair." As on all first five Judds' albums/CD's, Wynonna is...well, I can't be totally "disinterested" here, becaue I've had a crush on her since about '85 - but - ugh - Naomi looks like those ***s got to her. Regardless, "Rockin" is a fine, FINE bit of music: back when Don Potter was directly responsible for their sound, and before Naomi got sick. And it's been mentioned (a LOT) of places elsewhere, but about this time, I got fed up with what was considered "popular music," Rock And Roll having died with E in 1977. DREADFUL time, folks - but Country was going thru one of its all too rare renaisances, beautiful Women, and Men that didn't whine, like Dwight and Clint. And the seventh song on the album, "Cry Myself To Sleep," honest, was the VERY CATALYST that finally made me put down my treasured Presision Bass and pick up my ancient Epiphone-something acoustic. And I began frequenting "Open Mike" nights whereever, and was very gratified whenever I'd find a Lady who sing Wynonna's part, and let me sing Naomi and play my acoustic. Rambling, yes, but this album/CD - WOW: "Have Mercy" "Grandpa" "Workin In The Coal Mine" (God Bless Don Potter for the beautiful guitar he played for them!) - but as I said, "Cry Myself To Sleep" has since become one of my equals with treasures such as "Gimme Shelter," "Once Bitten Twice Shy," "In My Life," "Whiter Shade Of Pale," "Dock Of The Bay" - I guess you get the message. The ultimate compliment: "Rockin' With The Rhythm" is one of those all-too-rare CD's that you can put on and PLAY ALL THE WAY THRU without skipping over yucky tracks.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome Judd music.......2006-08-21

As many people have already said, this is a great follow-up to the Why Not me cd. One of my all-time favorite Judd songs is Grandpa, Tell me bout the good ole days.(which is about Wynonna's grandpa) I think this really is a showcase of Wynonna's vocals and Naomi's accompanying harmony.

5 out of 5 stars Judds Rhythm.......2005-08-13

I just love their music. This is a good CD to sing along, full blast. Love the CD.

5 out of 5 stars Great follow-up to Why not me.......2004-02-22

The Judds became major country stars as a result of their previous album, Why not me, which yielded four number one country hits (although one of them had already appeared on their debut min-LP). So - how did they follow that? The answer is - with this album, which yielded a further four number one country hits. The overall sound is different with the backing music much more restrained. The result is a smoother but sparser album than Why not me. This album therefore relies much more heavily on the voices of Wynonna and Naomi, which are of course excellent. Of the two, I prefer Why not me but I can understand why a lot of people prefer this album. The songs are of an equal standard.

The four big hits here are the title track, Have mercy, Grandpa tell me about the good old days and Cry myself to sleep. You've probably heard most or all of these tracks but there is much to like about the other six tracks here. Those tracks include a cover of Allen Toussaint's Working in the coalmine (originally a pop hit for Lee Dorsey). If I were you, Tears for you, River roll on, I wish she wouldn't treat you that way and Dream chaser are all wonderful songs.

Traditional country fans looking for a relaxing album full of quality need look no further.

4 out of 5 stars The Judds did it again!.......2003-03-20

It just seems the Judds are almost unstoppable. This is a good CD. Most people know and like the singles "Have Mercy", "Grandpa", and "Rockin' with the Rhythm", but this is one of those rare releases where almost ALL the songs are great. While "Cry Myself To Sleep" is, in my opinion, the best track here, "River Roll On" is just beautiful, and their cover of "Workin' in a Coal Mine" is quite fun and daring. "I Wish She Wouldn't Treat You That Way" is also a very fun song. If you like the Judds at all and don't have this release, you are missing one of their best works.

5 out of 5 stars ONE OF THE BEST LA ALBUMS EVER.......2006-11-16

This album had a huge influence on me. It ranks as one of my top 3 albums ever. First of all, many of the players and singers on this album were friends and fellow session mates of mine, including the great James Burton who's playing is the tastiest you'll ever hear.
Cut in Coldwater Canyon in a house owned by Brian Ahern, this album has an honesty that's the essence of what California country rock was to all of us who played it and lived it.
What a cast..Herb Pederson, Emmory Gordy, John Ware, Hank Divito, Emmylou Harris, Ricky Skaggs...all weaving the best of their talents behind the angelic voice of Jonathon Edwards. Every song is a gem..from the incredible playing to the flawless singing & harmonies.
To this day, I listen to this album as a reference for every country rock album I'm involved in.
Don't miss out on this rare gem of an album that captures what was the real heart and style of what is now called California Country Rock.

4 out of 5 stars worth buying for "white line".......2006-09-28

i heard "white line" at about 4 a.m. driving home from a late night e.r. shift and it was so moving. one of those songs you really have to have. i think "sailboat" is overall his finest album but rockin' chair is worth buying just for white line.

4 out of 5 stars Overlooked/Underrated.......2005-09-24

It's not as good as his phenomenal debut, but this one is a hidden gem. There aren't wall-to-wall beauties like the first one, but at least three strongs stand among Edwards' finest: Hearts Overflowing (an ideal wedding song), White Line and the title song. The production is a little too lush, and lacks the acoustic immediacy of the debut. So I keep comparing this album to "Jonathan Edwards" and coming up short. Still, if you've got that one and are looking for more, this may be the next place to go.

5 out of 5 stars A must.......2007-01-11

A absolute must for R & R scolars and fans alike, a great album.

4 out of 5 stars Ass kicking "yiaaaah" rock&roll with a touch of country.......2006-01-03

Travis Tritt is more of a country & western artist, but on this one much of the songs has an ass kicking" yiaaaah" rock and roll feel over it with a stream of country on some of the tracks, as they are the weakest one on this CD. But how can you possible go wrong when you use Little Feat as a backing band on tracks like the "fast moving" Bible Belt, (Track 3). The ones i realy like is rock and roll tunes like that which shows the rock and roll side of Travis Tritt. Maybe we can call it "foot stomping" rock & roll, with a dash of hard rock feel. Like Track 2 T.R.O.U.B.L.E which sometimes has the magic of Jerry Lee Lewis with the "humping" and "stomping" over the piano, with enough woooha and yiaah to make youre feet move automatically to the rythm. Skip trough the slower ones, which doesnt show his "real rockin side" . Sorry to say i don`t like his version of the Eagles hit Take it Easy, otherwise this is a fine collection which realy shimmering one most of the tracks, on the "rockin" side, but not one the slower ones which doesnt has the right "rockin sting".

3 out of 5 stars Questionable Song Selection.......2002-02-10

Travis is a master at everything from soft country ballads to southern rock. This collection supposedly concentrates on the latter. However, a couple of tracks here don't fit the theme while a couple of obvious choices were overlooked. "The Whiskey Ain't Workin'", Travis's duet with Marty Stuart, is included here. While this is a good song & I like it a lot, it's nothing more or less than a honky-tonk country song. Not very "rockin'". Travis's cover of the Eagles' "Take It Easy" is also here. Again, nothing against the song. But just because it's by a "country rock" band doesn't necessarily qualify it as a "rockin'" song. Actually, it's pretty easygoing (hence the title).
On the flip side, where's "Homesick", unquestionably Travis's hardest-rocking song & one of his very best? This was an absurd omission. A case can also be made for "Southern Justice", a moody, almost Bad Company-ish song with a "rockin'" chorus.
The new isn't all bad, though. There are great country-rock & southern-rock tracks here, such as "Put Some Drive in Your Country" (in which he pays tribute to Duane Allman), & Travis's hard-charging cover of the great Jude Cole song "Start the Car". Other very good tracks here include "Looking Out For Number One", "Blue Collar Man" & "Hard Times and Misery". Taken as simply a collection of Travis Tritt songs, this is an excellent cd. But given it's "rockin'" theme, it could've been a lot better.

5 out of 5 stars Either you get it or you don't.......2006-08-21

Donna the Buffalo is a great example of a whole being greater than the sum of its parts. Jeb Puryear's winding guitar lines are unremarkable if you listen too closely, but are perfect sonic accents when you let it be part of the whole. Puryear's nasally, laid-back voice, with its lazy enunciation, lackadaisical intonation, and limited range, is the perfect foil to Tara Nevins' chirpy voice; an entire album of either voice might become tiring, but alternating their warm voices gives each one the opportunity to be welcomed back like an old friend. The relentlessly positive outlook of the lyrics, with their hippy-dippy platitudes of toleration and acceptance, are set in such catchy, sometimes sumptuous, melodies that the cumulative effect is uplifting. All the parts fit together into a wonderful illustration of the pantheist universe that seems to be the wellspring of every song.

That said, how is this album? It doesn't matter. I can't see anyone settling for one Donna the Buffalo album. If you like their feel-good, 'the world is one' message, and their mix of Appalachian, reggae, zydeco, and rock, then you'll want all their albums; they're all the same. If you don't get what they're about, then one album will be too many.

5 out of 5 stars Fun CD from a Fun Band.......2003-12-22

Tara Nevins voice, plus a talented multi-instrumentalist, vocalist band make this CD a great listen. Even better are their
many concerts. I saw them in Charlottesville, VA in November 2000, and they were at their best. They were at anyone's best.

Sounds a bit like Grateful Dead meets 10,000 Maniacs (which I think was an actual billing about 10-15 yrs ago!)

4 out of 5 stars Good Stuff.......2003-09-24

This album makes me feel good. The only reason I dont give it 5 stars is that I would love to hear Tara Nevins sing all the songs. The others do very good, but I love her voice and her song writng.Don't compare it to the Grateful Dead or the String Cheese Incedent. Love it for its own merits.

5 out of 5 stars Greatest. Album. Ever........2003-08-02

This album is ridiculously good!
Every song is a masterpiece. This album will keep you rockin' from the first song to the last.
I strongly recommend that you check out this album, and also see Donna the Buffalo in concert.
They will blow you away!

2 out of 5 stars Herd Festival?.......2001-05-24

It's hard to criticize a band whose songs are as obviously heartfelt as Donna The Buffalo's--an amalgam of country, zydeco and roots rock. There is some great guitar playing, moments of grandeur, a handful of mildly entertaining songs, and quite a lot of filler. I haven't decided if "Funky Side" is the catchiest song I've heard in a while, or the most annoying. A lot of the songs (Funky Side, for example) suffer from repetition---after the first 2 minutes you've pretty much heard the whole song. "Each & Every Direction" is a good song to groove to, but there's not much of a melody. Not bad overall...but hardly overwhelming. To be fair, I can envision myself buying another Donna The Buffalo CD. It's just not something I would listen to a lot.

I heard one of the songs on my radio station and knew I had to have this cd. I finally found out who had recorded it and finally found it and I am completely happy with the whole cd. I love it. I might be an old grandma, but I still feel like I did years ago.I would love to hear more of their recordings even tho they are an older band, they are great!

5 out of 5 stars Confederate Railroad Rockin' Country Party Pack.......2002-10-12

Confederate Railroad is truly an awesome group. They really know how to toss it in a bucket and blend it together without coming up with mud. My favorite song was definitely I Hate Rap. This is one of those things you just cannot live without.

4 out of 5 stars Let's All Have a Party....Southern Style!.......2000-08-29

Once again Confederate Railroad gives us traditional country bar stoolers something to cut a rug with. The Rockin Country Party Pack draws from all of CRR's previous albums throwing in a few dance remixes and one new tune just for fun. This is the kind of music that you can kick back and have a shot and a shout too. CRR has defied all attempts by the "New Country" big wigs to define them. Political correctness means nothing to these guys they are in your face with songs like I Am Just a Rebel, I Hate Rap, Trashy Women and Toss a Little Bone. But even displaying this much attitude does not preclude them from softening with their always tender Jesus and Mama and Daddy Never Was A Cadilac Kind. The only drawback to this walk down CRR memory lane is the timing. There were a lot of problems getting their last CD, Keep on Rockin, released and perhaps it was lackluster sales of that title that prompted CRR to put out this release which is simply another Greatest Hits entry. As country music becomes overpopulated with has been rock and rollers, one hit wonders, and crossover queens, groups like CRR with traditional honky tonk sound and a we-do-things-our-way mentality are finding it harder and harder to be heard on radio which hurts sales and contributes to fewer new releases. I only hope that the boys will take some time off the road now and get some new material burned for a new CD to keep the bar dance fires burning.

5 out of 5 stars This was great.......2000-08-26

This was a fabulous CD, it was very funny and shows the humor of Confederate Railroad. The songs, "The Big One" and "I hate rap" were hilarious!
