Customer Reviews:
Her best concert, EVER! .......2004-09-25
Liza live from Radio City Music Hall was an historical event, she broke the record and the show sold out every night in 1992. Her performance is so versatile, clearly her vocal abilities are not has multi-faceted as they used to be, but instead her voice has reached a certain level of huskiness. The show starts out with the wonderful "Old Friends" medley, first with the "Overture" and then it slowly fades into "Teach Me Tonight" Liza delivers a fine and satisfying performance. Afterwards she turns to "Live Alone and Like It" which is a cute anecdote about life and how to adjust to the fact that you're going to get old. As she tells; the old woman in the first song was a strong one but the woman in "Sorry I Asked" is not quite as confident. After she gives a taste of a lost treasure from the original production of "Cabaret" with "So What", the song was originally performed by the legendary German cabaret singer Lotta Lenya. Liza also shows a very funny side of herself in "Sara Lee" ending the song with a "YUM" she's so funny, HA. After "Sara Lee" she breaks into another Broadway tune from Gypsy "Some People" which she performs with such a forceful drive that clearly shows just how great a Mama Rose she could have been. When the hype is over, or at least you think it's over and then she gives a very emotional performance, with a tribute to her father Vincent Minnelli on "Seeing Things" her performance is truly magical and will forever stay in our hearts. On "Stepping Out" she gets some company by her demon divas, they all deliver such a funny but forceful deliverance. It continues with the wonderful "Men's Medley" and god, those girls can sing, but Liza clearly reminds them just who they're performing with. Towards the end of the medley Liza break into one of her old classic tunes "The Man I Love" and the audience went crazy. Later she delivers a less convincing rendition of John Lennon's old classic "Imagine" Liza sounds detached and a bit cold, which I never thought was possible. After you think that you've been let down she scrolls and then breaks into a powerful performance on "Here I'll Stay/ Our Love is Here to Stay" and she pulls you right back in. She then ends the show with one of her signature songs "Theme from New York, New York" on the specific song she delivers such a powerful deliverance both with her vocal and her physical performance. Liza stepping out at the music hall was an historical event.
I was there........2002-09-16
I had the distinct pleasure of sitting in the audience at Liza's "Stepping Out at the Music Hall" concert. It was for my 39th birthday in May of 1991. Liza has the ability to sing every song as if it were written especially for her. And she also made me feel as if she was singing directly to me. This album is good, even with the cuts. Her opening number at the concert was "The Nearness of You." and 2 of Aznavour's songs were deleted from the album as well. I know that time constraints were a factor in making the album, so I've forgiven the cuts. And overall, listening to "Liza Live" brings back some wonderful memories. She remains a survivor, and I hear her new show, "Liza's Back" opened to rave reviews at the Beacon in June of this year. For her fan's sake, I hope she takes her new show on the road.
Beautiful Liza, but not her very best.......2001-04-01
When Liza Minnelli sang at Radio City Music Hall in 1992, her voice was a little raspy around the edges, but she gives in all she's got. My favorite song on this compact disc is the Reprise version of "Stepping Out," because she starts tap-dancing and the audience cheers her on. When Liza sings "Seeing Things," she sings about her father (director Vincente Minnelli), and her mother (singer/actress Judy Garland). That is a very touching song, and I think should be considered a classic.
Fabulous!.......2000-04-11
You have got to have this album. Liza is in great form. The songs are fun and energetic, and the audience's enthusiasm is just as energetic! I got so caught up in this album, I was sorry when it ended. I've listened to it over and over. I absolutely love it. There's no one like Liza!

Liza was sensational in this record-breaking engagement. I attended the first and last 1991 performances and also the final 1992 encore engagement performance, and she got 'em on their feet every time at the end. Another peak in her rollercoaster career, this CD captures a lot of electrifying moments. Check out the video and laser disc as well, as the show was a visual knockout to boot.
