Customer Reviews:
Great Debut.......2007-07-02
This is a great traditional-flavored debut country album by Sara. Sara has a great voice. I'm not much into the traditional country sound, but I think this album really won me over because of its great energy on the uptempo stuff mixed with truly engaging ballads. Here are notable songs:
True Lies
Shame About That - very high-spirited
3 Chords and the Truth - ballad about reconciling with lover after hearing song on radio
If You Ever Want My Lovin
Even Now - really moves
Tiger by the TAil - very feisty, listener wants to dance around
Walk Out Backwards
Sara's done good stuff since, but nothing better than this album
Early Sara Evans.......2007-05-16
It has a country twang you don't find on the newer Sara Evans albums more traditional, but good
A great debut album!.......2007-03-31
This is one of Sara's best albums. It's very country and has a great country songs on it. Too bad Radio didn't like it - It hit a wall with radio sadly. But if you love old-fashioned country songs, this is for you!

Sara's Best!.......2007-02-18
If you only buy one Sara Evans album, this should unquestionably be the one. This is a truly superb album. I have found it very, very rare to have the reaction that I had to this fine collection of traditional country songs. From the very first Patsy Cline-ish introductory notes of "True Lies", I was entranced by the warmth and emotion of the words and music. Sara's voice is wonderful and many of the songs were penned by her. This is not Pop/Country crossover along the lines of Faith Hill or Shania Twain; this is "Old School" country at its very best. (Unfortunately, Sara diverged in that direction on later albums before returning triumphantly with "Real Fine Place", another wonderful country CD. If you have a few dollars more, get "Real Fine Place" next.)
Sara Evans - Three Chords And The Truth.......2005-10-14
This is probably one of the best counry performances, ever. Sara is not ony beautiful but she is a dynamic singer who puts her whole being into her singing. Hearing her sing "Imagine That" puts her a very close second, if not and equal, to Patsy Cline. I have never heard anyone other than Patsy sing this song with the feeling and quality that Sara does. "I've Got A Tiger By The Tail"? Absolutely super! This CD is a must for anyone who loves pure country.

Some of the guys were clappin' their hands, and some of 'em were laughin' out loud........2006-02-04
This was the second, and last, album released under the Rip Chords name. The Rip Chords were originally Phil Stewart and Ernie Bringas, but by the time this album was recorded, producers Bruce Johnston and Terry Melcher had pushed them aside and sang most of the Rip Chords songs themselves. (Phil Stewart was allowed to sing lead on two songs on this album.) Regardless of all that, this is a fun album that features the early-'60s California sound. Bruce & Terry didn't write too many original songs for the album, relying mostly on covers of Fantastic Baggys and Jan & Dean songs. (The hit single "Three Window Coupe" was, in fact, originally a Jan & Dean song.) The CD adds three bonus tracks, including the Rip Chords last chart single, "One Piece Topless Bathing Suit". (Which was another cover of a Jan & Dean song!) This is a fun album, which fans of the California sound will enjoy.
a few points.......2005-07-28
Just to clarify, an earlier point made by Bobbie Mcfarland, he says "THE GROUP HAD DONE THIS WITHOUT THEIR HELP ON HEY,LITTLE COBRA. AND THEY HAD A GREAT GREAT ALBUM." Actually Bruce and Terry had been involved prior to this, and in fact are singing on Hey Little Cobra. The Rip Chords were really just a convienient vehicle for Terry and Bruce to get their product out. Bringas and Co. did participate, but it was Bruce Johnston and Terry Melcher all the way, when it comes to the Rip Chords.
Three Window Coupe is a must have for anyone wanting a great "window' to the emergence of the Southern California rock scene. SOngs like Beach Girl show the growing sophistication with which Melcher and Johnston were developing their studio prowess.
Babes & Cars & Surf & Sun!.......2002-10-08
This CD is full of harmony-filled word-paintings, fab falsettos and finger-snapping choruses, which bring about visions of endless summers, sexy beach babes and that big wave!
On the Rip Chords' car crusin' classic single "Three Window Coupe," the lead vocals were shared between soon-to-be-Byrds' producer, Terry Melcher and soon-to-be-Beach-Boy, Bruce Johnston. Original members (from "Hey, Little Cobra") Ernie Bringas and Phil Stewart were present but didn't participate on this work, nor on most of the recordings after that. Touring group members, Arnie Marcus and Ritchie Rotkin were not at the session. (From the CD's liner notes from Stephen J. McParland editor of California Music Magazine.)
The lovely ballad "Beach Girl" on this CD easily competes with the Beach Boys' "Surfer Girl," and "My Big Gun Board" is a definition song about a surfer dude's favorite mode of transportation -- his surfboard!
And who's the young, attractive girl with the big-gun board that surfs in her yellow bikini, who "walks with a wiggle that turns me on?!" It's "Wah-Wahini." (P.Sloan - S. Barri)
"Hot Rod U.S.A." is somewhat harmony-reminiscent of "Drag City" by Jan and Dean. "Old Car Made in '52" has a countrified lead vocal. And "Surfin' Craze" happily reminds me of the Beach Boy classic, "Surfin' USA."
Check out the charming "This Little Woody" with its cool guitar lick, along with hot-rod rockers "Bonneville Bonnie" "Red Hot Roadster" and "Gas Money," the latter highlighted by a groovy sax solo!
"Summer USA" has more fine falsettos and super sax work:
"Find yourself a girl now with long-blonde hair,
'cause summer means fun most anywhere.
Yeah, it's summer......... USA!" (Terry Melcher-Bruce Johnston-Judy Lovejoy)
If you fancy the Chantays' Pipeline, you'll like "Big Wednesday" which features both a superb bongo intro and guitar interlude.
An added bonus is "One-piece Topless Bathing Suit." (It's not what you think, guys!)
Contributing musicians on this album included Hal Blaine, Glen Campbell, Daryl Dragon, Larry Knechtel, Bruce Johnston, Ed Hall, Steve Douglas, Phil Sloan, James Burton and Leon Russell, to name just a few.
Catch the new Rip Chords on tour sometime with Bob "Dr. Robert" Rush, Mitchell Schecter, Fred Brog, Larry "Lorenzo" Branca and original member Ritchie Rotkin!
TOO MANY COOKS SPOIL THE SONGS.......2001-03-13
THE RIP CHORDS ARE A GREAT GROUP. BUT THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE FACT THAT ONE OF THE LEAD SINGERS IS MY COUSIN ERNIE BRINGAS. HEY,LITTLE COBRA HAS GOT TO BE ONE OF THE BEST HOT ROD ALBUMS AROUND. WHEN THREE WINDOW COUPE CAME OUT, THE WAS ALOT OF TENSION WITH THE FACT THAT TERRY MELCHER HAD BROUGHT IN BRUCE JOHNSTON,AND TOGETHER, THEY STARTED WRITING AND COMPOSING THE SONGS FOR LITTLE COBRA. THE GROUP HAD DONE THIS WITHOUT THEIR HELP ON HEY,LITTLE COBRA. AND THEY HAD A GREAT GREAT ALBUM. ITS UNFORTUNATE THAT SOMEONE HAD TO COME IN AND START TELLING THEM HOW TO WRITE, HOW TO COMPOSE AND HOW TO SING. LIKE SO MANY GROUPS AT THAT TIME, THEY FELL LIKE A BUCKET OF BRICKS. HERE TODAY, GONE TOMORROW. BUT THE RIP CHORDS LIVE ON...THEIR MUSIC IS STILL GREAT... HEY,ERNIE!! YOU STILL DID A GOOD JOB ON HERE I STAND!!!
More forgotten classics.......2000-11-25
"Three Window Coupe," the Rip Chords' follow up to "Hey Little Cobra," (see my review of it, too) is even less remembered than the first album, and it's a shame, because "Three Window Coupe" was just as great, and in some ways better. The title track isn't quite as good a rocker as "Hey Little Cobra" but it's still a great song. While it's a cover of a Jan & Dean song, the Rip Chords improved considerably on the original, adding the "Three window coupe, you're the toughest in town" and "Three window coupe, make a trophy run" lines in the chorus and making it much more upbeat. "This Little Woodie" is a great song, reminding us that just because a car can't do the quarter mile in 10 seconds doesn't mean it's bad. "Hot Rod U.S.A." is another good one, and makes an interesting companion to the Beach Boys' "Surfin' U.S.A." when you compare them. "My Big Gun Board," in my book, ranks right up there with any of the surf tunes by The Beach Boys and Jan & Dean, and "Red Hot Roadster" is another great rockin' hot rod song. As little remembered as they are, the Rip Chords are worthy of sharing the title of "Kings of Surf and Hot Rod Music" with the Beach Boys and Jan & Dean.

blah.......2007-01-26
allright Ducky Boys "Dark Days" and "No Gettin Out" are two of my favorite CD's in my collection. the new ducky boys CD's however i cant stand, its sounds to commercial, like a song youd here on m-tv being requested by a lettle girl with a room full of unicorns or something im gonna sell it to a used cd store and pretend i never bought it! oh ya "the war back Home" is even worse.
now to be fair to the music and to the Ducky Boys, because with there other music i consider them my favorite band! my style of music is punk! you might like the newer ducky boys, to each is own!
MUST HAVE THIS........2006-02-25
What a great music and lyrics,,,,that's my wrap-up. This CD is still my rotation ever since I bought it a month before the release through Thorp records. When I am energetic I always start listeing from the begining (sound transition from track 1 to 3 is outstanding). When I do not feel good about life, I start listening from the track 7 ("Stand By Me"). Although I love all songs, if I have to pick one favorite, I might select either "Richmond Skyline" or "Crumbling Heart." These songs are incredible, man! I mean, everything good are in here-excellent song structure, sweet vocal, nice guitar works, awesome lyrics-this cd is purely good. I am afraid that next Ducky Boys CD might not surpass the productivity of "Three Chords" but I hope that "The War Back Home" is at least as good as this album (I know they'll live up to my expectation!). I have to reiterate that this album is monster! Also I do not understand why some fans do not like this album as much as "Darky Days" because the band has successfully extended their range of instrumentation to be more heuristic. To conclude, everything that Mark Lind does are phenomenal, since he is a very creative artist.
Solid albumn, no breakthrough though.......2005-10-04
I have liked the Ducky Boys since their first release. They bring more of the same but with a serious upgrade in production.
The resulting sound is mellower, more intentionally melodic, and less raw.
It is a good record but it isn't these Bostonians best
must own.......2005-05-06
Absolutely outstanding. Mark Lind and The Ducky Boys have a masterpiece here from the first track to the last. . . BUY THIS RECORD!!! And while your at it, pick up 'Dark Days'.
I can't get enough! .......2005-01-31
This is the first album I own by this group, and I can't get enough. This is very good, driving, guitarsy punk rock, along the lines of Social Distortion, Naked Raygun, and Dropkick Murphys. I highly recommend this. My favorite tracks are "Break Me", "One for the Underdogs", and "Crumbling Heart", but there's not a song on this album I don't like. You'll find yourself singing along!

Amazon.com essential recording
Bartók's Mikrokosmos ("Little World") essentially comprises 153 teaching pieces, divided into six books of progressive difficulty. These works make ideal vehicles for budding piano students who are ready to face the myriad challenges of 20th-century keyboard music. They also reveal the kernels of the Hungarian composer's uncompromising compositional style. György Sándor was a piano pupil of Bartók's, and his fluid, perceptive playing is unfailingly idiomatic, from the simple, canon-like exercises at the start to the demanding Six Dances in Bulgarian Rhythm that crown the cycle. The mono engineering is thin but acceptable. Suffice it to say that the composer would have been proud of what his pupil achieves here. --Jed Distler
Customer Reviews:
The slender difference that makes the great difference!.......2006-09-29
At the actual moments it's hard to find out that unusual and missed way of play Bartok with these well known dissonant inflections, for all of us who had the immense privilege to watch this legendary pianist twice in Caracas in the seventies and eighties. To this reviewer, it will be absolutely impossible to forget his egregious presence and powering [...], steeled phrasing hovered by that special reverberation and acidic lyricism at the moment to play Out of doors that cold night of December 9, 1982.
Without another intention in mind, but intending to illustrate and motive the newcomer listener, I would say that in just few counted occasions (Richter and Prokoviev, Ravel and Cortot) there has been such chemical rapport between composer and performer.
At least in my case, I have not heard about any other pianist able to sound so sarcastic, reverberating and genuinely Hungarian as Gyorgy Sandor did it.
So I really hope you to keep in mind all these previous considerations at the moment to make this wise choice. Go for this record without any shadow of doubt.
This album is now part of the mythic legend of the treasures for keyboard.
No other pianist will sound so astonishingly as Sandor does.

Customer Reviews:
Blistering, Lyrical, Boisterous.......1999-08-19
Rakowski's music is all about energy -- his music is the rarest of this genre in that it contains the vibrancy of bebop or rock, with the lyricism and smarts of the best of the European tradition. Envision this: Alban Berg, standing onstage in a smokey nightclub in 1950s New York, burning it up on his sax, while Maurice Ravel comps on the keys, and the Ramones provide the rhythm section. After you're through with that vision, rub your eyes, put on a clean t-shirt, and go out and buy this CD. Somebody hand this guy the Pulitzer.
David Rakowski's music is visceral, voluptuous, and humorous.......1999-06-24
From the blistering opening of the piano etude "Martler" to the gorgeous middle movement of "Sesso e Violenza," this disc features some of the most exciting classical music around. Other treats include the suitably raucous "Attitude Problem" and the haunting and delicate song cycle on poems of Louise Bogan. Perhaps due in part to the performers' close association with the composer (Rakowski has written works for all of the artists involved), the virtuoso performances on the disc are expert and the interpretations definitive.
