Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars A Marvelous group of songs and musical poetry.......2003-12-19

I am on my second tape of this! 3 songs stand out especially: The title song 'Rose of the San Joaquin' will take your breath away,"Somebody's Husband, somebody's son" is just exquisite, absolute ear candy delivered as only Tom Russell can, and the achingly beautiful "Tramps & Hawkers" will have you listening again and again. The rocking "Out in California" moves at a pace that will wake the dead. My personal favorite is "Sky above, Mud Below", a Blue Roan horse lovers delight of a story song. A lot less Volver-volver would have suited me, but all in all if you like Tom Russell you have to own this.

5 out of 5 stars The Best Russell CD Yet!.......1999-01-11

No one can write, and sing like Tom Russell. And he proves it, more than ever, in The Rose Of San Jaoquin. I haven't been able to stop playing it since the first time I opened it. A Must!Jay MarvinKHOW Radioauthor of Punk Blood

5 out of 5 stars Tom Russell is not well known, but a first rate talent........1998-06-13

This album is one of the best of a whole series of great albums he has recorded. His song writing is wonderful and his performances are first rate. My wife says his voice reminds her of a young Johnny Cash.
