Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
Mila Mason's debut album, That's Enough of That, has already yielded two Top 20 country hits, the title track and "Dark Horse." There's very little traditional country content in these two singles or in their eight brethren, however. Instead this former model from Kentucky is yet another Nashville newcomer trying to imitate the Southern-California soft-rock of Linda Ronstadt, Carole King, and Christine McVie. There's nothing wrong with this sub-genre--either in its '70s Hollywood incarnation or its '90s Music Row version--and such artists as Trisha Yearwood, Kim Richey, and Matraca Berg have squeezed brilliant music out of this formula. Mason, though, has neither the voice nor the material to match their accomplishments.
Mason has a pleasant enough soprano, but without the power or range to separate herself from the parade of videogenic new singers marching out of Nashville these days. Her producer Blake Mevis, who has worked with everyone from George Strait to Lorrie Morgan, has given her country-pop arrangements that stand up to anything in town without standing apart from any of it. The album's 10 songs represent the work of 21 different songwriters, including such proven hitmakers as Bob DiPiero, Mark D. Sanders, and Gary Scruggs, but this wasn't their top-drawer material. Too many songs turn on contrived puns (a homely man is "Hot to Molly;" her love is riding a "Dark Horse") or maudlin platitudes (you'll never find a "Heart Without a Past;" she shouldn't think of her ex but "Tonight I Know I Will"). --Geoffrey Himes

It's been a long ten years since Take That disbanded. Their recent reformation and world tour offered overwhelming evidence that, far from being forgotten, the post-Robbie quartet can still command hysterical amounts of goodwill and adoration. Beautiful World illustrates why this is so. Written in conjunction with songwriter/producer John Shanks (Ashlee Simpson, Anastacia, Alanis Morissette), the album is crammed full with the songwriting magic that made their rise to fame so meteoric in the first place. Far from being an exercise in nostalgia, the project moves the band in a slightly new direction. The four come across as more mature, more democratic (all members share songwriting credits on the album, rather than just Barlow), and even more adept at making epic pop that somehow avoids the cheese factor. Lead single "Patience" is a perfect example of how powerful and accessible their songs can be. It'd be a good contender for the album's peak moment if the rest of the tracks weren't so damn good too. With traditional Take That style songs (the immediately likeable "Reach Out", the brimming "Like I Never Loved You At All"), nicely punctuated up by incongruous outings like Jason Orange's folkish "Wooden Boat" and Mark's upbeat, Beatles-esque "Shine", Beautiful World sets a whole new standard for a band previously known more for their singles than their long-players.--Danny McKenna

Beautiful World.......2007-05-25
All I cansayabout this album is that Take That has changed alot. It more mature and for all earlyer Take That- fans, this is not for you. But on my conpinion i think the earlyer Take That was a bit nerdie.
I wouldn't have been caught dead listening to a boy band!!.......2007-05-02
But, this is really amazing. I was barely familiar with these guys because I listen to a lot of American and British indie/alternative until my friend said "Remember that song 'I want you back for good' "
Uh...sort of.
After hearing Patience I was hooked and this album is great. Age and experience has served them well.
Take That, welcome back...for good!.......2007-04-30
Move aside Westlife, Justin Timberlake, and Backstreet Boys.
The greatest boy band of our time Take That have returned with a big bang.
Beautiful World is That's 4th studio recorded album, not counting the compilations. It's a nice collection of mellowed-down ballads along with some foot-stompers and crowd-pleasers.
The Manchester boys have grown up. It's been 10 years since the time Gary Barlow, Mark Owen, Howard Donald, and Jason Orange announced that they were parting ways -Robbie Williams ditched the band months earlier and ended up being the most successful of them all, he does not return to the lineup this time around (it's his loss really). The overall feel and sound of World reflects the boys' maturity and self assurance. It also symbolizes the first time the boys share songwriting duties: Gary Barlow isn't the sole writer, Mark, Howard, and Jason all are credited; Jason debuts as a lead singer on the fantastic album closer Wooden Boat.
The album opens up with the breathtaking Reach Out, a beautiful ballad and future single, that reminds us why we loved Take That in the first place. The UK Number 1 singles Patience and Shine are simply awesome, the latter written and sung with conviction by Mark is probably one of the best pop songs I've heard in a long time, while the former is sung by Gary with such an infectious passion; Patience is technically Gary's first hit single in about a decade. Mark's Shine is the most upbeat song on the album with a beat that is similar to ELO's Mr. Blue Sky, with Beatlesque harmonies and an incredible chorus; the music video to Shine includes references to The Beatles' Your Mother Should Know video. Howard's radio friendly self-reflective Mancunian Way, a potential single, is a cool song that will eventually grow on you after a couple of listens, while the feel-good title track, Beautiful World, features one of the best harmonies the boys have ever produced. Gary's lovely ballads Ain't No Sense In Love, another potential single, Like I Never Loved You At All, and the first group effort I'd Wait For Life produce a nostalgic sense of how great it was being a fan of Take That in the 90's. Mark's What You Believe In is an elusive bluesy pop-rock number. Finally, Jason Orange's breakthrough Wooden Boat is a country influenced acoustic number (Jason actually has learned to play guitar and write songs over the 10 years that passed), and turns out to be one of the highlights on World. There's also a bonus track that appears shorty after Boat fades out titled Butterfly, a sweet catchy ballad written by Gary.
Beautiful World might not be as great as Everything Changes or Nobody Else, and Take That might not be as young and exciting as they were once. The album does lack the typical Take That dance and upbeat tracks along with the piano-driven ballads that made past efforts much more balanced. However, their return with this album deserves a very warm welcome. I'm sure the fans will agree!
So I will end by saying: Take That, welcome back...and hopefully, for good this time!

Not The Best.......2007-03-28
If You Like The Old "Take That" this Is Not for you.
I have all The Cd's They put out and This New One STINKS! compared to the rest, doesn't even sound like them
Best Ever Yet! Must have!.......2007-03-18
This come-back release for Take That is absolutely superb. You would never have guessed that they were ever gone from the music scene for the past few years. The tunes are right on with today's hits yet it retains the sound that made the group a hit in the past. You would never have guessed that Robbie Williams is no longer a part of the ensemble. Take That is positively right on.

Album Description
After four years, this is the long awaited second album from this Chicago pop rock band. Plain White T's have long been recognized as the hardest working band on Fearless playing 250 shows a year. Not only are they loved by fans, but their peers have embraced them as well. For fans of Sugarcult, Simple Plan, and Fallout Boy.
Customer Reviews:
Another one hit wonder.......2007-07-10
I'm soooo tired of hearing the Tees squeek out their one hit wonder "Delilah". This song should be used as a torture device to get criminals to spill their guts. Hearing this over and over and over would invite madness. This is my most hated song of all time, surpassing "I Shot The Sheriff", "Betty Davis Eyes", and "Loving You". Dull, sappy, weak, thin, garbage.
as expected.......2007-06-03
the merchandise arrived to my house in a reasonable amount of time as described.
Definately a good CD.......2007-05-31
Plain White T's CD is definately takes care of your alternative itch. The CD has really good pacing, is fun and and smart.
Plain White T's are All That We Needed!.......2007-01-14
A mix of power pop/alternative/and indie songs, Plain White T's put a lot of passion in their music. The songs are very good and well written even if they are slightly repetitive. Many of their lyrics are sweet love songs or songs about relationships gone wrong that would appeal to many who listen to emo music. However I would not classify them as emo for their music is generally upbeat. If you like to listen to just a few songs off a CD Plain White T's, All That We Needed, is a good buy. You will find that you fall in love with ½ the songs and the find others are good also. Listening to a CD as background noise you will love the sound and the lead singer, Tom Higgenson, has a great voice. The song "Hey There Delilah" sinks into your soul and make you want to melt in your shoes. It is soft and sweet love song it starts off with;
"Hey there Delilah,What's it like in New York City?, I'm a thousand miles away, But girl tonight you look so pretty,Yes you do,Time Square can't shine as bright as you,I swear it's true"
If this is the only song you've heard off that album I will warn you that it is the only real acoustic song on the album. The other songs are good in a different, more 'get up and jump around,' kind of way. The music is passionate and have very good beat that cause you to want to put it in your CD player on repeat. I would 99% recommend this album but try not to over play it as soon as you get it!
One Good Song.......2007-01-11
This CD get 2 stars for the last song and 0 stars for the rest. I bought this CD spefically for the last song, "Hey There Delilah." I had hopes that there might also be some other songs on the CD that would be worth listening to. In my opinion the last song was the only one worth listening to because all of the others are simply annoying.

A poll-winning fiddler since her teens, Alison Krauss was an established bluegrass star when her label persuaded her to step out from her usual projects with Union Station, her crack band, and sanction this compilation of various band and solo guest performances. The ploy worked, yielding a wonderful, odds-beating crossover hit with Krauss's cover of "Baby, Now That I've Found You," a carousing late-'60s pop chant transformed into a delicate, vulnerable declaration of love. Focusing on Krauss's lovely, yearning soprano, the track elevated the musician above her resolutely democratic role in her quintet, catapulting Krauss to the biggest bluegrass success story in over 30 years. Krauss has stayed true to her bluegrass roots, as well as to Union Station, but this cross-section of contemporary bluegrass songs, joyous gospel, and canny rock covers testifies to the young artist's luminous appeal. --Sam Sutherland

From Amazon.co.uk
Hot on the heels of their shock UK No. 1 single "I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor", Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not confirms Sheffield's Arctic Monkeys as the UK underground's most proselytizing young preachers of the DIY gospel. Marrying nervy, caffeine-and-cigarettes indie clatter to conversational, pretense-free lyrics and the occasional burst of off-the-cuff eloquence ("No time for Montagues or Capulets/Just banging tunes and DJ sets," proffers "Dancefloor"), it's an instant, pulse-racing hit.
No question, the Monkeys are more sinners than saints. The opening "The View from the Afternoon" predicts a ruckus with a whole lot more grit than the Kaisers can muster, while on the mellow "Riot Van," a tale of underage drinking and cop-baiting culminates in a messy beating in the back of a station wagon. Look beyond the Arctics' bristly, laddish exterior, however, because it's actually affairs of the heart that comprise this album's secret core: see the sweaty-palmed "Dancing Shoes," bearing testament to the trial of nerves that is pulling in a suburban indie nightclub, or "Mardy Bum"--a tribute to a moody girlfriend that, for all its witty barbs ("I've seen your frown and it's like looking down the barrel of a gun"), is tinted with sweet affection. --Louis Pattison
Album Description
Musically, there are bits of The Stone Roses, "What's The Story Morning Glory", and "Nevermind". As catchy as those reference points are, it's the songwriting that has won the band a fiercely dedicated following; a mix of the observational storytelling of Davies and Weller crossed with the harsher documentary eye of Mike Skinner of The Streets and "Ghost Town" era Specials. Two #1 UK singles. Press already lined up with Rolling Stone, Spin, Entertainment Weekly, and Interview, to name a few. Three more US/Canadian tours planned for this year, including headlining Domino's label showcase at SXSW.
Customer Reviews:
A great fresh sound!.......2007-07-05
They are not that popular in the US yet, but are huge over in Europe. If you listen to 2 of their songs you will be hooked. Its a new kind of sound and a breath of fresh air from a lot of the crap music now-a-days. I would recommend this CD to anyone who like music!
Great CD.......2007-06-26
This is an excellent catchy CD that rock and rolls pretty well. My favorite tracks are "Red light indicates doors are secure" and "marty bum" Also check out "The Redwalls" first CD "Universal Blues" if you liked this CD.
Catchy.......2007-06-09
If you like big names from the UK, no one's bigger. It doesn't live up to the hype completely, but it's catchy and entertaining. I find myself singing along with it all the time.
Liked it.......2007-06-08
For once, a band that got a lot of hype actually is worthy of the praise.
Cold climbers.......2007-05-18

As fans of Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy know, each film exists in two versions: the theatrical one and the extended one that appeared on DVD. This luxurious box set--which also comes with a detailed essay on the movie's musical themes--features the full extended score, so many cues not on the CDs of the individual movies are included. Granted, the majority of listeners will be perfectly happy with the shorter versions of the scores--it's a safe bet that most people can live without hearing, say, Ian McKellen's 35-second-long ditty "The Road Goes Ever On" at the beginning of "Bag End," or Viggo Mortensen's performance of his own composition, "The Song of Lúthien," within the track "The Nazgûl." But if you're a completist and/or a devotee of Howard Shore's pounding tympani and overwhelming choral compositions (featured particularly prominently on disc 3, a large chunk of which is devoted to a battle scene), then this set is a dream come true. Audiophiles should note that the fourth disc, a DVD, offers the score in Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound. Fire up those speakers so the whole shire can hear. --Elisabeth Vincentelli
Album Description
An epic film score receives epic treatment with The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring/Complete Recordings. Released for the first time on CD, the complete score for the first film in the Lord of the Rings trilogy contains more than 180 minutes of music on three CDs plus a DVD-Audio disc of the entire score in Surround Sound. Breathtaking and majestic, the 2001 Oscar and Grammy winning score compsted by Howard Shore also includes Enya's Oscar nominated "May It Be." For fans of any of The Lord of the Rings films, the Fellowship of the Ring/Complete Recordings is an essential experience.

Beautiful.......2007-06-15
I picked up this set because I am both a LOTR fan, movies and books and I need music to help me work. There are some tracks that I skipped over, like the short little ditties in the bar, but many of the songs, such as the Elvish chants are easy to get lost in - its just too bad they don't last longer. The packaging really is well done, though the DVD disc was loose when I received it in the mail, but unharmed. I will have to wait until the price on the second set comes down a little more, but I can't wait for ROTK.
Awesome.......2007-06-12
This is by far the editon to get if you loved the lord of the rings soundtrack. It has every song on it from the extended edition. and the DVD-A version is very nice.
Excellent Music tracks from Movie.......2007-05-03
Brings the movie back as you listen to the full version of the track.
Complete?.......2007-04-07
This CD collection is wonderful; it has much of the material from the movie that was only included in the extended edition DVD, but it is far from complete. While it does have the complete version of "The Passing of the Elves" and two versions of "The Road Goes Ever On", many of the songs are highly incomplete and inferior to the originals. "Aniron," the theme for Aragorn and Arwen performed by Enya, is incomplete and the lyrics are hard to match to what is being sung. The sound quality for this song is even worse on the accompanying DVD, which is supposed to have all of the music in "superior sound". The song "Prophecy" is reduced to two barely-audible lines and "May It Be" is shortened and different than the original. $60 for this when there are more complete songs on the original soundtrack is ridiculous.
Great Collection, Poor Packaging.......2007-04-03
I realy can't add to what others have said about this set, the music is simply the best LOTR soundtrack collection out there! It is all here, and the contents of this set will make any LOTR fan happy and the music DVD is a great one disc addition if you want to hear the entire score in one sitting (to which I have done a number of times already).
My only complaint is the somewhat flimsy cardboard box that houses the contents of this musical treasure. Mine came damaged, and considering the price, I expected better packaging. This is a minor quabble on my part and NO, I havent returned it due to the fact that the music itself Is what I truly treasure, It just would have been nicer to have recieved it undamaged.

Laurie Berkner serves up a heaping helping of whacked-out, slaphappy lyrics and get-you-moving acoustic guitar licks. The littlest listeners (Berkner's fan base barely skims the surface of the six-and-up crowd) will want to slip on their dancing shoes for such originals as the opening track, "We Are the Dinosaurs," on which a pack of prehistorics prance around, stopping only to eat their food when they're in the mood and take a rest over in their nest. The blues-soaked "I Know a Chicken" teeters on frenzied, shaky eggs and an over-the-top tempo, and the sweet, musically simple "123" tickles sentimental sides with its "koochie-koochie coo / I love you" refrain. Besides her surefootedness with her own songs, Berkner also nails a number of traditional tunes here, most notably "She'll Be Comin' 'Round the Mountain," "ABCD Medley," on which she artfully melds the ABC song with "Row, Row, Row Your Boat," "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star," and "Wimoweh (The Lion Sleeps Tonight)," a gloriously kiddified rendition of the already infectious original. Overall, this record reflects Berkner's knack for stacking on the fun. Best of all, because of its standout instrumentation, parents are apt to groove along ungrudgingly, thereby setting the stage for a squabble-free shared musical experience. Whaddaya think of that? --Tammy La Gorce

family favorite.......2007-07-06
Both my [...] love this CD. Hard to find something to please everyone. It's silly but fun and the songs definitely get stuck in your head. This is our first CD and we will be buying more.
Laurie Berkner is brilliant.
A MUST-HAVE for Toddlers.......2007-07-04
This is the first CD purchased for my son that I have not grown tired of listening to. We recognized a few tunes from a baby music class, tunes like "We Are the Dinosaurs", "Animal Fair", and "These Are My Glasses", all of which my son really enjoys. I love this music because so many songs lend themselves to movement, sign language, and the use of toddler-friendly musical instruments (e.g., drums, shakers). She uses a variety of styles and sprinkles in a few classics, like "She'll Be Comin' Round the Mountain" and a fabulous "ABCD Medley". If you buy one CD for your toddler, buy this one. You'll find yourself singing the songs even when the CD isn't playing!
Kids LOVE it!!.......2007-06-29
And we love it. It's not annoying when your driving in the car. She has great music!
More than 5 stars!!!!.......2007-06-28
I'd rate this CD even higher if I could. Laurie Berkner is seriously the best children's music singer I've heard. She sings in a way that kids just love, and the parents don't get sick of it!!!! I've found myself listening to the CD in the car and singing along with all the songs while running many errands....not once realizing I was listening to kids music with no kids in the car, LOL. The lyrics are easy to remember, they're funny, and some of them even teach something. I buy this CD for every new parent as a baby shower or just plain baby gift :)
Best kids cd ever!.......2007-06-24
The kids and I enjoy this even more than Greg and Steve which is saying ALOT!! Great songs, get kids moving and listening and thinking! Catchy tunes I find myself singing when kids aren't even around! Best Ever!! Buzz Buss and Victor Vito are other top favs of my kids!

With each new Dan Zanes and Friends release, many fans worry that his homespun magic will eventually hit the right note with the masses. Zanes' music, as offbeat as it is organic, is so special to forward-thinking young families that plenty have batted around half-baked plans to attach a password to it. Anybody else can sell out, the thinking goes, but please, please not him. Catch That Train, then, is bound to meet with a lot of hand-wringing. For one thing, it's the first Zanes and Friends release since the crazy-haired, asparagus-stalk thin artist started appearing in videos on the Playhouse Disney channel. For another, Starbucks has stepped in to lend a promotional hand. Those are ominous indicators indeed, but if the largely on-track Catch That Train proves anything, it's that Zanes isn't lock-stepping it with the boardroom goons just yet. Once again, the high-profile collaborators (The Blind Boys of Alabama, Nick Cave, Natalie Merchant) could cause a childless hipster to heed the all-aboard call, but also as on previous discs, it's the usual suspects who supply some of the strongest tracks: Barbara Brousal on "Mariposa Ole," Father Goose on "Choo Choo Ch'Boogie," and the Rubi Theater Company on "Walkin' the Dog." True, "Let's Shake" seems suspiciously TV-ready; skip it and pretend it never happened. Then keep your fingers crossed that, once this train leaves the station, Zanes--plainspoken hero to so many--won't trade it in for a stretch limo. --Tammy La Gorce

Customer Reviews:
Very good, but not our favorite.......2007-07-01
This is our sixth Dan Zanes album, and I guess one of them has to be our least favorite. I am sorry to say that Catch That Train! holds that dubious distinction in our household. I am not writing this review to slam the album, but merely to offer the opinion that if you are new to Dan Zanes, you may wish to consider one of his other albums first.
As other reviews have indicated, Dan Zanes is fun, loose and all about the sing-along. I suspect that's why he collaborates so often and so well. If you're looking for tight, sophisticated arrangements, look elsewhere. If you're looking for music that everyone can get into, music that is accessible to children without being cloying to adults, then start filling your cart. Bruce Springsteen gets a lot of credit for bringing the Seeger catalog and other folk treasures to younger audiences, but we think he got the idea from Dan! We love the folk/americana covers, Dan's originals and the songs that he pulls in from other cultural traditions. Here are the albums we own and how we'd rank them:
1. Sea Music
2. Parades and Panoramas
3. Rocket Ship Beach
4. Family Dance
5. House Party
6. Catch That Train
Kids music has changed for the best!.......2007-06-12
Dan Zanes has set a milestone for kids music, no more does parents have to be forced to listen to Barney or the Wiggles, (ugh!). With Dan Zanes, parents and kids can both enjoy the great sound and lyrics of classic fables set to a variety of musical beats. This is Dan's latest album, which we really enjoy on car trips or just to crank up while at home. You'll find yourself singing the music on here long after the kids have gone to bed.
Music kids and parents can enjoy.......2007-06-01
Dan Zanes' music is fun and genuine and does not come across as so many recent bands that seem to be trying to cash in on Playhouse Disney and Noggin. He works with lots of guest musicians and the diversity is refreshing.
Fantastic Mix for Kids & GrownUps.......2007-05-26
I was so impressed with this CD from beginning to end because it really exposes kids to different music styles. I now catch myself listening to some of the songs even when the kids aren't around. I think that this is the right kind of compilation for just lounging with your little ones - except of course that many of the songs do make you want to get up and boogie.
Quickly became a favorite!.......2007-05-26
I purchased this CD for my children - ages 2 and 4 - and they immediately fell in love with it. We play it in the morning to get our day started; we play it during the day to laugh and dance together; and they ask to have it on every night to go sleep with. I enjoy the songs, too, which is HUGE! A few weeks after this purchase we attended a Dan Zanes and Friends concert and my kids were thrilled to see their favorite singer in person. I highly recommend this cd.

A Great Collection To Have.......2006-04-06
It just gets me everytime when I read reviews written by "critics" that are really too up their own ar*es to actually admit that pop music from five guys that dance can actually be good.
After reading the credits carefully, one would actually realize that Gary Barlow writes alot of the lyrics and co-produces many of the tracks. Ok, so there are loads of other musicians that don't write 100% of their music themselves - Bruce Springsteen, Eric Clapton, The Monkeys - are just some of them. But do these same "critics" discredit them for talent? No.
I just hope this double-standard stops once and for all. Music is music. And if you're too ashamed of admitting to liking a 'boyband', then just keep quiet, and don't bother writing reviews about "how awful" they are. This is good pop music and that's that.
Total crap.......2006-01-13
Take that are amongst the lousiest groups ever.they are even more worse than N'STYNC,OLD MEN AROUND THE BLOCK and southlife.this should be called as worst songs instead.A MUST AVOID.Get ECHOES BEST OF PINK FLOYD and FOGHAT LIVE from FOGHAT instead.
Eight number ones!.......2006-01-12
Take That had an amazing EIGHT number one hit singles in the UK, more than Pink Floyd, more than Zeppelin, and more than Foghat! Take That is adored all over the world, and they're preparing a reunion tour that will be a smash everywhere! Get this CD and brace yourself for some seriously good music.
i must admit i kinda like take that.......2006-01-01
i like take thats music and even though they are no longer around i occasionally listen to my mums take that album and find that i do like their music. i also watched the take that documentary and found out that they are not as sweet and innocent as everyone may have thought they were during the time they were around cos they done some quite rude and naughty stuff!
British Sound!!!!!!!!!.......2005-11-30
If you quit keep comparing this kind of musical proposals with Pink Floyd or Led Zeppelin (because doing this is absurd)you may actualy enjoy this genre, British Pop is very enjoyable and Take That were one of the finest groups in the field

She does it again.......2007-01-29
An outstanding follow-up to her debut album, Learning How To Fly. Inga's voice is smooth and accurate while at the same time retaining a sense of intimacy and warmth.
Inga sings and swings.......2006-07-09
A great album of great songs. Inga sings with feeling and is ably supported by the Bill Peterson Trio. 'Black Crow' and 'Just in Time' are exceptional tracks, but then the whole album is superb. Excellent.
