brilliant.......2007-04-04
This is a fantastic album. Anyone who enjoyed the Telluride Sessions will love it. It is amazing the variety of feelings these three musicians can create, with rhythm that will have you tapping your feet for days (and no drumkit in sight).
Great bluegrass.......2007-01-11
I just can not stop listening to this cd. I wish these guys made more than just this effort. It is superb musicianship
More stars plz, kthnx........2006-06-20
Plenty of strong reviews, and the disk is worthy of all praise, and more than five stars. My reasoning for this recapitulates another reveiwer's experience:
Was bombing across the Palouse (flatlands of eastern Oregon) recently, heading for the coast, and put this CD in...listened to The Hymn of Ordinary Motion, From Ankara to Izmir, The Travels of Mr. Hulot...and realized that hours into this trip, I wanted nothing more in the world than to be right there, in that moment...hearing these guys play, with my wife and daughter peacefully asleep as we crept across that vastness. I literally had tears of joy.
We are, most of us, most of the time, far removed from any deep appreciation of the moments in which we live. Any music that can bring you closer to that appreciation is to be treasured, and is beyond criticism. (Well, for me anyway.) I've bought three of these CDs (AFTER I downloaded most of the tracks) and I still feel I owe these guys.
Your results may vary, but aside from any potential cosmic results, the virtuosity of the playing and the creativity and humor and raw beauty found variously in these tracks make it one of the best CDs I've ever heard.
Buy this CD - you won't be disappointed!.......2004-05-30
If you've been reading these reviews and still haven't decided to get this CD, just go now to checkout and be done with it! I bought this just recently - I'm sorry I wasted about 10 yrs not having this in my collection. Oh yeah - buy an extra one for a backup in case it gets misplaced (or more likely, borrowed to never return) - it's that good!
Here on Earth.......2003-08-09
Here on Earth is the title of Track 11. I think I'm right in saying it's the loveliest piece of music I've ever heard in my 45 years on this particular planet. Maybe you can find better elsewhere in the galaxy, but I rather doubt it. I used to wonder why a melody so powerful, so magical, was also so fleeting, passing by in a moment and leaving you clawing the walls for more. Then one day I thought about the title again, and realized its woeful shortness is completely appropriate. The excellent sleeve notes say of track 11: "The intention in the title is matter of fact - simply that making music like this is one of the things we do in our life here on earth. It springs from a feeling of acceptance infused with awe and wonder."
Not many evenings go by when I don't ask my CD to play at least tracks 1, 3, and 11, and "awe and wonder" sums up my reactions nicely. I have a couple of newgrass discs ('Into the Cauldron' and 'Telluride Sessions') where I feel the musicianship on offer sometimes exceeds the music itself, but the compositions here are all quite wonderful. This is especially true of those written by Russ Barenberg, who is also a guitarist of extraordinary brilliance - six strings of gold and purple, rich and vibrant and majestic. Jerry Douglas is the king of his instrument, while Edgar Meyer plays acoustic bass with his usual gusto, originality, and wit. (And if you're wondering how an instrument that big could ever be described as 'witty', it can only mean you haven't heard Mr Meyer play yet: often he sounds like he's sawing the poor thing up for firewood, not bowing it...)
Their achievement is all the greater because they recorded this dazzling CD while being attacked by a hundred angry bees in the pouring rain. At least, that's what it sounds like. The background hiss varies from irksome to atrocious, and sabotages what ought to be a peerless masterpiece where even the album photos are a source of pleasure. With the world so full of burgers crying out for flipping, it's tragic that the sound engineer's undoubted talents are all going to waste in a recording studio. By calamitous misfortune, 'Here On Earth' is the worst affected track of all - another thousand bees join the party, and the rain turns into a torrential hailstorm. The bee-free version is probably playing on Radio Heaven right this moment.
But such is life, and if you have a lousy hi-fi, or play this in your car, you probably won't notice. Either buy it or have yourself locked up, but forget about any kind of third option. My reason for writing this review is simply to thank every one of the musicians for this astonishing gift to me and everyone else who, due to them, now skips and hops and wobbles.

Good Sh*t.......2005-08-19
This is a pretty hot album. I wasn't expectin too much from this album but there are some serious tracks on here. I wouldn't go as far as giving it a 5 star because not every track is bangin but I Suggest you listen to "what's Up" that track is hot. also the maon track from this album "Nolia Clap" is hot. The Remix's are just as good as well

3 Bad Brothers.......2005-07-07
If anybody doubted Juvenile's UTP crew wouldn't make it, they were dead wrong. Juve pretty much laced the hit "Nolia Clap" w/ Wacko and Skip WHILE "In My Life" and "Slow Motion" w/ Soulja Slim were still getting' the Cash Money spins. "The Beginning of the End" has plenty of firepower to give to Juvenile fans, as "Solja", "What's Up", and "Who The F**k is This" all give the fans somethin' cool to bump to, which all were produced by Slice T. And if you think Wacko and Skip slack on the mic, you're wrong again, as they complement Juvenile through this album. They all have great chemistry together, as seen on the 2pac-sampled "War Sh*t", which I think the albums best track is. One of the underrated songs on this album would probably be "Juvenile,Wacko,Skip(3 Bad Brothers)", it has a Run-DMC sample and all three lace 80's style rhymes to complement the song. Overall, Juve, Wacko, and Skip gave the fans a nice album, and it only makes you anticipate the next one from them.
I likey.......2004-12-07
To the reviewer who gave this album a one and said he guess people like garbage. That would have been true if pac was alive but, it is a new era unfortuanately, and the south is running the show so, get wit the program for now. Be on the look out for aliasmainman.com coming soon (perfection takes time). Anyway, I think the album is very good from the newcomers and juve is definitely a better rapper then I thought he was initially, (I thought he was total garbage). If you like nolia clap then you wont have a problem with this album.

Pretty Good solo debut from Skip.......2006-06-13
One of the members of Juvenile's UTP group (along with Young Buck & Wacko), Skip drops a decent album. I heard him on a few albums (lil Flip, G-Unit mixtapes, B-Legit, MC Eiht) and I his verses and style, it was something different then I saw this for a few bucks and I picked it up. It has a good amount of songs (17), 1 or 2 I skip, 9 are good, 1 is almost a classic, and the rest are ok. Guests are on slightly over half the songs and are from his UTP click. Production is decent as well with Juvenile and DJ Divine doing 15 of the songs the other 2 are by: Cool & Dre and Pied Piper. A nice album for fans of his or some good down south rap check this out.

Top Songs-"Pimps/Players"1 wich is surprisingly not terrible."Lap Tops" has a carribean beat. I think skip was in a group with Juvenile Young Buck and Wacko."Let me"2 I believe features Juvenile."Black Robbin hood"4 he sounds like Eminem freestyling."Big Thangs" has Young BUck on it sounds alittle like the Big Tymers circa 2000."Keep it Gangster"3/4 has a laid back beat that I like."Murder Murder" is not terrible."Broke and Lonely" is okay the beat is okay."Make it Happen"3 has some storytelling on this he needed more."Three kids" is another okay song."Wac and Skip"5 has actually good beat but it is to low.Obviously since this is the First time I heard it that it is Indie Hip Hop from the South. Buy a Juvenile album

Skip and Wacko make it worthwhile.......2006-10-18
Standout tracks: NOLIA CLAP(original and remix), WHATS UP(original and remix), DONT START, WHO THE F**k IS THIS, JUVIE WACKO AND SKIP, SOULJA, WAR S***, AT U BITCHES, THE BEST YEARS and RIDE TONIGHT. Filler: Whats your brains like is a wack sex record with a nice beat and on Thats all I know Juvenile basically used the same verse from Money on the Couch(on the SOULJA RAGS album)to complete the song. Bottom line: Wacko and Skip are the main reasons why this album stands out. Their flows are crezy plus they outrap Juvenile on every other track! No disrespect to Juve but he hasnt been the same since he dropped that sleeper album Project English.
Down in the Dirty.......2004-09-14
I love this album, I from Jersey, born and raised, so coming across new music is refreshing to me! All the song's was great, funny at times. What's your Brain Like, is one of those freaky songs that have you thinking! And Nolia Clap just proves that we all can get along in hip-hop! No Beefs! Yeah, we hear that Nolia Clap. Wacko is holding his on on the album as well as Skip, they are doing they thing.
This album is worth buying!

Classic 50's teenage rockabilly.......2002-09-25
This 2-CD box set gathers all the Collins Kids' best, and that means poppy rockabilly with a real whallop! Larry Collins was a real guitar whiz, and is frequently joined by his mentor Joe Maphis on many of these tunes. And the songs themselves are real doozies, '50s rock classics such as "Whistlebait," "Hod Rod" and "Hoy Hoy," as well as revved-up, rockified goofs on old country and pop standards like "Walkin' The Floor" and "Soda Poppin' Around." Sure, the Collins Kids were spunky and cute, but they were hardly just a novelty act... they really did tear the roof down!
Legendary rockabilly from 50s brother-sister act.......2000-05-22
Though the Collins Kids appeal initially as a novelty, with Larry as the young-teen guitar ace and older-teen Laurie as the babeful singer, they were (and are, since they still turn up at the occasional rockabilly festival) a terrific roackabilly act.
Their music tends more to the pop end of the rockabilly spectrum, but Larry's stinging guitar leads (often matched against those of his mentor Joe Maphis) are bona fide. Their unabashedly teen-oriented songs fit them to a tee. Even Larry's few turns at vocals, like "Hot Rod," are filled with the sort of exuberance rarely heard in todays highly-polished world of pop music.
This double disc is just about everything they recorded in the studio. Disc two is filled out with a number of Larry's later solo country recordings, and, truthfully, they don't measure up to their duet tracks. (True, he did go on to cowrite "Delta Dawn," but he was a better songwriter and guitarist than he was a singer.) The single disc compilation that Columbia has put out avoids these later tracks, but also loses a number of the duet tracks (as well as extra intrumentals that Larry cut with Joe Maphis).
It's expensive, but you get the requisite Bear Family quality: a huge number of well remastered tracks stuffed onto each disc, and an excellent full-size (12x12) book crammed with great photos. If you love the Collins Kids, it's worth the money. If you're only curious, the single disc domestic compilations may suffice (or may lead you to buy this one in the end).
