    The Dickel Brothers are part of what might be considered the second string band revival... What makes The Dickel Brothers so intriguing is that unlike their second-wave contemporaries, who put a new twist on the old styles, the Dickel Brothers sound so much like the original artifact that you'd swear you were listening to cleaned-up masters from the Harry Smith Collection.

    Many of the songs are covers of tunes by the likes of the North Carolina Ramblers and the Carter Family, but there are a couple of originals too that hold up quite nicely (Cascade Hollow and Dig My Grave). Note how completely dark the song material is; it makes punk look positively jovial. Also note that the LP contains bonus tracks not included on the CD - how cool is that?!

    These guys (oregon based I believe) have an authentic awsome old timey style. If you like charlie poole and old three piece bands of the appalachians these are your guys

    First off I have to say this is not the usual music I listen to. After all I grew up on Van Halen & the Rolling Stones. However I have grown to really enjoy & have fun with this ole style grass roots music. I even have my favorites "The Farmers Daughter" & "When I Die" It's not your conventional pop music but I strongly suggest you give a chance. You might find you love it & open a whole new world of (old world) music.

    On my last trip to Portland, a friend MADE me sit down and listen to an entire Dickel Brothers record. While I think it is amazing and important music, what must be more impressive is to see it played live.

    This is important American music, but it is also great fun to listen to, and to see played. Get the album. But if they ever play live anywhere near you, then force YOUR friends to go see them.
