Customer Reviews:
Outstanding Bluegrass!!.......2002-02-17
My wife and I first saw the Chapmans during a downpour in Amana, Iowa. We got wet and so did they, but the music was superb, and the vocal harmony was incredible.
This group is tight and very professional, but also fan friendly and just nice folks.
"You Can Run, But You Can't Hide" has made it to the charts, as well it should. The song will grab you and not let go, even after you've heard it dozens of times.
The same goes for virtually every other song in the CD. Personally I'd have loved to hear a little more banjo playing by Bill, the father. But the mix of songs, instruments and vocal harmony left me more than satisfied. Enjoy!

Customer Reviews:
Beautiful music from the Himalayas by the truly gifted Manose.......2006-12-14
I bought this CD along with two others after hearing him play with Deva Premal & Miten (he did backing on a recent world tour). In one song Deva & Miten sang they brought Manose in to play along with them - fully improvised... what a challenge and the result was breathtaking... I'm sure he sold dozens of CDs that night on that performance alone! Manose hails from Nepal, although he's travelled the world and has worked with Jai Uttal and Peter Rowan and many other talented musicians. He has a beautiful life story that you can read on the web if you desire.
He is undoubtedly a beautiful flautist. He plays the bamboo flute and trained in Raga music. I really love the work of Riley Lee and am always keen to pick something up new on the flute, so was grateful to be introduced to his music.
I bought this CD along with 2 other's (Suskera and Dhyana Aman: Meditation Of No Mind) both available here. I didn't listen to them before buying them though as I had no idea that you would be able to get them from a shop. This one is mainly of a folk style... which personally, I'm not all that enthused about. OK, the title the is 'Folk'... and that's what I ought to have expected, I guess I was just blown away by his live performance that I didn't think before buying it and it will get few listenings in my house, it's just not my personal taste.
The others discs I mentioned though (available on Amazon) are fantastic and I highly recommend them (the meditation CD does indeed have some beautiful tracks for meditation.
(I've rated this four stars upon reflection, the playing is beautiful, it's just not my style).
Manose is a great player and a beautiful human being. I encourage you to check out his work, perhaps starting with Suskera.

A local surprise.......2006-11-21
I am from the DC area and had never heard Rick Whitehead until he did a brief appearance on a local radio station during their fund drive. I was so impressed I'm thinking about booking him for a private party next year. I bought this CD at a closeout sale at Tower Records and it is a gem.
Rick brings a great facility to the art of solo guitar. He is technically brilliant but you are not distracted by it--it's all about the music, not the chops. He does straightforward but fresh versions of several standards, except for a rather unconventional and somewhat outside version of Wave, which only hints at the melody. As a guitarist, I envy those that can really pull off an entire CD of solo work of rich harmony and improvised lines without leaving big, gaping holes. I enjoy this CD even more than Joe Pass's Virtuoso series, though it may be sacrilege to say so. Rick has such a mastery of harmonic structure and voice leading that you forget that you are listening to only one man playing six strings. I would recommend this CD to any jazz guitar lover, and if you're in the D.C. area you'll want to see him live.
