Editorial Reviews

The amiable Texan has such a casual and unaffected delivery, you'd swear you could do as fine a job yourself. Of course, making it all sound so easy is tough work. These early-1950s radio transcriptions, recorded in Thompson's cutting-edge home studio in Oklahoma City, boast impeccable sound quality and offer a treasure of rarities from the Thompson songbook. Thompson straddles the line between Western swing and honky-tonk, and all of these cuts, even his potentially silly novelties, are disarmingly endearing, unpretentious, and danceable. His band, spearheaded by guitarist Billy Gray and steel-guitar force Bobbie White, is flawless and always tasteful. --Marc Greilsamer
