Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars True Country.......2006-03-11

I listened to this on cassette when I was younger, and now it has been released in CD format, Mel Street, unknown to many, stepped onto the country stage at the wrong time, though Nasville music has always overlooked many great artist, and has been demonized by many artist who went on to become quite reknown, and the same continues today, great artist like Chris Knight, who lives in Kentucky and others like Ray Wylie Hubbard, who was responsible for writing the song "Up Against The Wall Redneckmother" Ray Willie himself says it shouldn't have been written, jokingly, because it is as popular today as it was thirty tears ago. and Brian Burns who has a great album"Heavy Weather". Mel came around when country started to go from country to pop, remember"Smoky Mountain Rain" I try to forget. Here you will here real country in a song called Smoky Mountain Memories. Tragicaly, Mel decided to leave us as that song became a minor hit. I believe he saw where country was going, and it turned worse in the early eighties, with a lack of any talent, from some of the biggest names Nashville continued to push. For some,a loss of a style of music can be hard to deal with, and so it was with Mel.
Waylon, Jonny, and many others are gone, we still have Willie, Kris, and David Allen still performs, and Moe Bandy has a great recent CD, If you have not seen one of their performances, please check some of these artist, both old and young. If country dies it will leave a hole in are soul. Michael

4 out of 5 stars Really Sad.......2005-11-11

Mel Street was a talented singer. It is a shame that his life ended so young. The song "Lovin' on Back Streets" is one of the best cheating songs of all time. Lets hope his music and memory lives on.

5 out of 5 stars My first listen brought back a wonderful voice I had forgotten over the years..........2005-10-05

He is simply one of the BEST hard-core country singers of all time. The sadder the songs, the more I love 'em!

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR HARD-CORE COUNTRY MUSIC LOVERS!

5 out of 5 stars Superb.......2005-08-27

Let's face it, the '70's just plain sucked for music....and country music hit the skids then nearly as bad as it has now. But Mel Street was the epitome of all good things about honky-tonk music. This album is absolutely fantastic. Personally, I consider Mel Street the second coming of Stonewall Jackson, and you can hear the influence Stonewall had in Street's sound. You can also hear the magic that Ronnie Milsap tried to capture with Street's sound, but never quite got there. Well worth your money, and your time. Besides, it makes you forget that it was the decade of disco and Kenny & Dolly.

5 out of 5 stars Too bad he ended his life!.......2005-08-02

He would have given music lovers many songs they wanted to buy!
