Packs into 5 CD's a sampling of Broadway tunes from the 20's thru (almost) today, mostly from original cast recordings. Includes not just well-known hits, but also some lesser-known gems. Sound quality is first rate, booklet is informative too. Have given this as a gift to several friends with rave reviews.
Top Shelf.......2007-01-04
This is THE definitive collection of Broadway hits. I have other collections, and none of them measure up. A great deal of care was obviously taken in compiling and presenting this box set. It covers a lot of ground, starting with some long-forgotten but still very enjoyable hits from the days of yore, and finishing with present-day favorites. To the best of my knowledge, the recordings are by those who made them famous. You won't be disappointed.

If you are a fan of the Broadway Musicals, this is a collection that you should purchase. Since I got the 5 disc set I've enjoyed listening to it. The majority of the songs are done by the original singers. The collection is priceless considering that you will have over 100 songs from popular musicals since the beginning of Broadway

Perfect for the Season.......2005-11-19
I purchased this years ago and the enjoyment has grown every Christmas. Handel's Messiah is beautiful, The Nutcracker is a classic and the arrangement of hymns conveys the true wonders of the season. While there is a place for pop carols, these classics should be in every Christian's music library. I loved this so much, I actually purchased a complete replacement set when I lost one of the discs. Certainly an excellent value that any music lover would treasure.
FOR WHISTLING OR SINGING ALONG.......2003-12-28
The gifted Richard Hayman (Boston Pops arranger for more than 30 years) offers an interesting collection of holiday favourites. The back cover says "Orchestra and Chorus" - beware, there is no chorus. The sub-title "Philharmomic Symphony Orchestra" is rather pedantic. Why not simply "Richard Hayman and His Orchestra"? The opening and closing numbers are sing-along medleys... the liner notes offer the words. Two Leroy Anderson numbers receive a fair treatment: SLEIGH RIDE and SONG OF THE BELLS, the latter being played rrather slowly. There is a beautiful rendition of MUSIC BOX DANCER, the only version I know that uses the music box. The counter-melody is too loud and takes away the charm of the main theme. A few compositions by the conductor himself. A great collection for tree-trimming, whistling or singing along.

BUY THIS CD.......2006-08-01
I was a fan of Dawson's Creek for years and during that time this breathtaking music would be the underlay for a scene or these soulful vocals would arise. I finally sat down one evening and wrote down a bunch of the songs that touched me. I was surprised to find that the majority of these songs were performed by none other than Mary Beth. I IMMEDIATELY started searching the internet and came across "Goodnight Goodnight" and "A More Perfect World". I purchased both on the spot and am definately not disappointed. You can smile, cry, be melancholy - it touches the core. It is beauty in song.
Music for all moods.......2003-12-20
Mary Beth Maziarz was introduced to me through the television show Dawson's Creek. I bought her cd on a whim last year and it has not yet left my cd player. Her stunning vocals are highlighted yet not overdone. The music has meaning and can suit many moods. "Hold On" is the most beautiful in my mind, but the whole cd is a keeper. I only wish radio stations in Canada would play her music and introduce her to the public. Mary Beth deserves success.
If you like what you've heard from her you'll not be disappointed.
Jazzier "Supernatural".......2002-10-28
Marybeth is one of the best new female artists to come out as of late, and I know, i've heard most of them! However, I recommend "A more Perfect World" before you purchase this. "Good night" is a jazzier, much more...mainstream music sound, whilst AMPW is all of Mary Beth's quiet, spare sounds which are actually much more appealing.
This however is still very good. I hate soundec cliched, but, if you like Jewel, if you like Sarah, if you want something smooth, intelligent, melodic, you'll love Marybeth. ("Daydream Believer" played in Dawson's Creek)
Supernatural isn't worth getting compared to this or AMPW.
A 'Supernatural' Collection.......2002-09-06
Mary Beth's "new" album 'Goodnight, Goodnight' is a collection of songs, some new and some familiar to her fans. The CD contains thirteen tracks, including ten from her 1999 release "Supernatural". The CD box art is very similar to Supernatural - including the gold fish! This CD has been distributed by Morada Music, a large record distributor focusing on independent music artists.
The ten tracks from 'Supernatural' are - 'two satellites', 'aftershocks', 'come inside', 'lean on my love', 'hold on', 'too much', 'million different worlds', 'better than anyone', 'all I want is you' and 'someone still believes in you'. A couple of the cuts have new arrangements, with an increased level on the drums and bass. 'Two Satellites' is one example with a significantly increased drum level on the chorus. I personally find the original arrangement preferrable.
There are three new songs not heard on 'Supernatural'. The first is a new fuller sounding version of 'Tracks of my tears' (also heard on 'A More Perfect World') with drum, backing vocals and guitars. Two new songs are also on this CD - 'Goodnight, Goodnight' and 'Seasons of Us'. 'Goodnight, Goodnight' has a little bit of a Billy Joel type arpeggio piano feel - a sound you might have heard on Billy's early 1970's records 'Piano Man' or Streetlife "Serenade'. The second new song is 'Seasons of Us', a reflective song about self understanding and acceptance in a lilting 3/4.
I would recommend this album to the Mary Beth fan. The new songs are worth the investment.

I wish I was Swedish.......2006-06-10
This is simply my favorite disc of song out there. As a recreational singer, it's wonderful to come across a disc like this and be given an entire new world of song that you can't even find music for. The songs by Sigurd von Koch, who spent some time in Asia, are beautiful enough to dissolve your brain! In The Month Of Tjaitra and Of Lotus Scent And Moonlight are so full of beautiful imagery and wonderful music I can't see why people sing anything else. And the folk-inspired Pertersen-Berger songs are loads of fun too, although of course not as moving.
A feeling of discovery.......2000-09-23
The songs on this wonderful Swedish anthology may not be familiar to most listeners but they occupy an idiom not so dissimilar to the world of Grieg. (Otter and Forsberg's Grieg recital from a few years earlier is also indispensible.). The nostalgia-tinged melancholy (or is it wistful joy?) of Wilhelm Peterson-Berger's folk-inspired songs, for example, convey a hint of Grieg's art yet are distinctively Swedish. There are nine selections by Peterson-Berger, out of 31 total, and they all exemplify this composer in full melodic flower. The other composers offer something closer to what we think of as art songs: somewhat rarefied, reserved, melodically rich and often evocative. The piano accompaniments are always first rate. This treasury provides a rich and varied 74-minute overview of Swedish song.
If the quality of the Swedish literature as a whole is half as good as what's presented here, let's hope that this is only an introduction from Otter and Forsberg, who would seem to have this repertoire to themselves although one could not hope for more understanding interpreters. After all, they are Swedish! All of imagination of their earlier Grieg interpretations is present here as well. There is all the necessary depth of characterization without affected artsiness.
If that's not enough, this disc also won the coveted Gramophone Award.

RUSSIAN VOCAL SCHOOL -- SHINES!.......2000-04-29
I first saw Elena in a video that was made during the late '70s, while the iron curtain was still down. She sang a SCALDING "O Don Fatale", making every other's version seem mediocre. That vision has never left me, and is continued here in an original recording from the Soviet Union.The songs are folk, with many "folk" orchestra songs as well. Together, Elena and the period orchestra combine forces to produce wonderful, exciting, dramatic and certainly magical sounds! "Dark-Browed, Dark-Eyed" is one of my personal favorites here. The tempo, along with Elena's tremendous vocals, add up to a spectacular feeling of energy. ALL of the songs show off her incredible chest register, and many can bring you close to tears. The sound is in real stereo, with better remastering that I had thought. There are SO few recordings of just ELENA, so this is a treasure to own. She must certainly be pleased as well.

My favorite songs on this album are the folk songs, although all the songs are beautiful and wonderfully performed. They could do with a little less orchestral numbers, but they are also very nice. Elena Obraztsova is an exceptional singer.

Chakra has done it again. This song is so fierce. Starts with synth waves, then the pounding beats kick in. Excellent for a set opener, or closer for that matter. The female vocal is very catchy, and smooth. Great for peak time play. This song will definately get the party pumping!! This is a must have for trance dj's or fans.
