HOT HOT HOT!!!.......2007-01-10
This music is awesome!! It's kinda like somebody threw Pink Floyd, Santana, Procal Harem & Traffic into a blender, then threw in the mysterious ingredient that know one else knows. The production is exceptional...very sharp, clear sound. I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys good ear candy. :)
This album is a must!.......2002-07-27
I'm quite new to Snowy White as I heard him for the first time at Roger Waters' In The Flesh Tour in the summer of 2002. I liked the soft and bluesy sound of his Gibson Les Paul and decided to check out his discography.
Restless was the first Snowy White album that I got and I like it a lot. It's very laid back and pleasant. My favorites are the slow ballads on track 2 (The Time has Come), 5 (You Can't Break My Heart), and 7 (Softly). Especially You Can't Break My Heart could run forever. In return I'm not too enthusiastic about the jazzy passages on track 3 (Restless). It might rock on a live session but it becomes a little to tense on a studio album in my humble opinion. But it gets over in just 2 minutes, so never mind. Luckily track 4 (Restless Too) saves the total image of the title track. On this track Snowy White is using a little more effects than normally and I just love it.
I have subsequent noticed that Snowy White occasionally re-issue old tracks on his albums - either in a new arrangement or in the original version as a bonus track. As for instance, The Time has Come on Restless appears in a more unpolished version on the album Highway To The Sun. I hope Snowy White & The White Flames will make a long version of You Can't Break My Heart, perhaps with a mix of acoustic and electric guitars like track 3 on the Toxic album, and put it on a future album. It really deserves it!
Restless is one of the best albums I have bought for a very long time, and it continues to grow every time I hear it. I can only recommend that you order it immediately. This album is a must...

The great snake sheds more skin..........2000-10-25
I believe most longtime WS fans will dismiss this album as an unfortunate last gasp at recapturing the former Snake glory. If that's all they're looking for, they'd be right. But there's far more to this final(?) Whitesnake release that deserves mention and even a little praise. First of all, I'll get the bad stuff out of the way. Coverdale is clearly in his weakest voice, not quite hitting those high ones anymore, and having to augment the backing vox with female singers (which is, actually, not bad-sounding at all...). Some screams have been replaced with melodramatic whispering, others simply displaying a very aged voice no longer in top form. Adrian Vandenberg, who wrote and played brilliantly on this effort, is recorded on (what sounds like) a single track, pushed way off to the right in the mix, and has no fullness or bombast. Pity. While this intimacy level works well on the slower bluesy numbers, it makes the full-on rock songs sound thin and amateur. Lastly, Coverdale's lyrical content is sadly still relying on cliche, double-entendre, and effortless rhyming. Here is a man who probably has some of the best stories to tell in all of rock, and instead gives us the same silly "heart/apart", "mine/time", "I'm drunk again and I lost my woman" lyrics. Did the alternative music revolution do NOTHING to inspire this man to begin telling his life stories with finesse and zeal? All that notwithstanding, this would make a fairly interesting Coverdale/Vandenberg solo record, and should have been titled as such. Coverdale's baritone is still the coolest thing to hear, and as mentioned earlier, Vandenberg shines. I admire that Coverdale & Co. stuck to their guns an put out a quasi-blues rock album instead of more L.A.-style hair metal, but the talent displayed here had SO much more to offer. But.....if you feel Coverdale is Shakespeare and can do no wrong, you'll love it. The rest of us are just left wanting more......

Customer Reviews:
Great CD find from 1985.......2003-07-30
Remember the 1980's guitar style? ... just picture an amazing guitar lead with that style without the glam. Although not as good as Cacophony there are some great parts on this ablum. In case you don't know this is Marty Friedman's "major break through" band that gave him his "first noterity." If you are expecting a "Hawaiian" sound, you won't get it, it's purely 1980's metal. This was recorded in Honolulu in 1985 because afterall that's where Marty's from. On the 1997 "import" from France there are 9 tracks. I don't think they were "remastered" because the quality isn't as good as one would hope. As for the band 'Hawaii' (discography): in 1984 they put out "LOUD, WILD AND HEAVY," then an E.P. (unknown name), and lastly "THE NATIVES ARE RESTLESS" in 1985. Overall minus my objections of the recording (I'm sure it's the best they had with their budget at the time) this album makes me wish I was on the beaches in Hawaii blasting this CD for all to hear. This album starts off with soft Hawaiian style music, and gets loud and heavy. It's a little bit dated and thus is a little on the lame side because of the singer's glammed voice, but it's still good for any Friedman fan.
