Packs into 5 CD's a sampling of Broadway tunes from the 20's thru (almost) today, mostly from original cast recordings. Includes not just well-known hits, but also some lesser-known gems. Sound quality is first rate, booklet is informative too. Have given this as a gift to several friends with rave reviews.

This is THE definitive collection of Broadway hits. I have other collections, and none of them measure up. A great deal of care was obviously taken in compiling and presenting this box set. It covers a lot of ground, starting with some long-forgotten but still very enjoyable hits from the days of yore, and finishing with present-day favorites. To the best of my knowledge, the recordings are by those who made them famous. You won't be disappointed.

The album"Tall tales and short tempers" is one of Jim Reeves best album.Only available at Bear Familys giant 16 cdbox.
The other half"He`ll have to go" is not the same as the one released in 1959.
Somebody at RCA/BMG messed it up.
Only a few songs is from "He`ll have to go"
Buy it because you will probably not gonna buy "Tall tales and short tempers" this cheap elsewhere.

bMG made a big mistake in reissuing these two albums! Shame on you BMG! The album He'll Have To Go is not the 1959 album which is the original version it and has songs such as I'm Beginning To Forget You, Home, Partners, After A While, He'll Have To Go and others! This album is simply a useless compelation of live radio broadcasts which are on several other CD's and the Tall Tales And Short Tempers album!The version of Danny Boy is not t he released version with the Anita Kerr Quartet! BMG you should check before you release albums like this! I of course havve all of these albums on the big 16 CD box set but do not and I'm warning all fans out there, do not buy this album because they are not the original albums!

Thank goodness that these well filled CDs of selections from three of Offenbach's most entertaining and tuneful operettas are available. Exactly the thing to provide some hearty nourishment for Winter nights. Ideal also for a Summer barbecue. In both cases, a glass of champagne, or at least some other bubbly beverage, would be good to have at hand - everything here no doubt will call for a toast or several.

It is so nice to be able to hear in these translations the witty words, sung with welcome clarity and meaning by these admirable artists. As I recall, there were no microphones in sight, and perhaps not even used, when this production of Orpheus In The Underworld was brought to Australia, with a few cast changes but the same sparkle as shown here. Crisp diction and lively, often lovely, singing - a great recipe for enjoyable listening indeed.

The recording sounds a bit shrill here and there, but what a churlish quibble; to Hades with such curmudgeonly qualifications! This is music to raise the spirits, and not just those from Hades.

    I was looking for a CD version of the Jim Reeves classic album "He'll Have to Go" and found this. Since many of the songs were the same, I took a chance that this import was a repackaging of singles.

    It's not. These are live performances taken off the radio - in fact they sound like they might have been recorded off the air. The sound is tinny and the editing is a bit rough (some songs cut off suddenly during applause, but on another you get to hear Jim clear his throat after a song).

    After all that though, the album has its charms. The tracks are all live and Jim introduces several of them. If you're a big Jim Reeves fan, this is a chance to hear him in a more open context than a studio album. Still, his voice without any bass does seem a bit of a waste.

    I do NOT recommend this CD - I got it cause I thought it was the album He'll Have to Go" - but it's radio broadcasts and certainly not a good sound and not worth the money! A real disappointment and now I'm stuck with it!.
