This best-of is loaded with the usual smash suspects plus three new cuts--the sub-Mellancamp "Someday I'll Be Saturday Night," the Bed of Roses-style ballad single "Always," and a low-key remake of "Living On A Prayer" titled "Prayer '94." Love 'em or not, there's no denying the loyalty of the fans. --Jeff Bateman
Customer Reviews:
A great Bon Jovi collection.......2007-06-09
For the most part, this is a great Bon Jovi collection. I do not equally enjoy every song on this album, but this collection includes nearly all of their early hits.
Cross Road.......2007-06-09
I love this CD, it's awesome, the songs are the best. Especially "Always", "Bed of Roses" and "I'll be there for you"
Decent Beginner's Set.......2007-05-22
For people who only know Bon Jovi from their "Have A Nice Day" and beyond years, "Cross Road" is a very good collection of tunes for them to check out. It gives the listener a solid set of their most popular tunes from their hair band heyday before they got all earthy/Mellencampy. This album is by no means a complete gathering of their greatest tunes. It leaves out at least two songs ("Living In Sin" and "Born To Be My Baby") and instead fills those holes with the dismal "Prayer '94," the forgettable "Always" and the harbinger of things to come, "Someday I'll Be Saturday Night." "Someday" is actually a very good modern roots rocker, but people don't buy greatest hits albums for the new songs. People buy this album for songs like the original "Livin' on a Prayer," "Wanted Dead Or Alive," "Bad Medicine," and "I'll Be There For You."
Lesser known tunes from their earliest offerings(particularly "Runaway") signal the beginnings of a great band to come. Later songs such as "Keep The Faith" and "Bed Of Roses" reveal a band in rock decline and quickly headed for the adult contemporary sound. In short, "Crossroad" gives the listener a pretty good take on how a band from Jersey made it big, leveled off, then headed for the sweet and steady success of light rock. Just to shake things up a bit, "Blaze Of Glory" from Jon Bon Jovi's solo "Young Guns II" project is included. Sadly, we do not get a sample from any of Richie Sambora's solo works. He really is a much better guitarist than he's given credit for, and it would have been nice for one of his tunes to be included in this collection.
I grew up during Bon Jovi's prime, and am proud to say that I own original cassette copies of "Slippery When Wet" and "New Jersey." Although they weren't my favorite hair/glam/hard rock band (that was Def Leppard), they were still one of the best around at the time. Bon Jovi is no longer the band they once were, but for people who want to know where they came from, this is the album to pick up.
BON JOVI AT THEIR BEST!!!.......2007-02-17
Words cannot describe how awesome BON JOVI is!!! I am their #1 fan and no other group in this world produces such quality / entertaining / heartfelt music. I RECOMMEND YOU BUY HAVE A NICE DAY and ALL OF THEIR CDs!!!
We'll give it a shot........2007-01-26
I have soft spots for a lot of these songs; during my radio days, a rocking Bon Jovi single was good for a lift during the airshift. Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Samboro were always good for a rock-candy riff amid the other pop tunes. The ersatz Springsteen may have been cannon fodder for critics and snobs who'd insist that the band wasn't 'rock' enough, but "Living On A Prayer" and "You Give Love a Bad Name" were meaty shout-outs for car-radio cruising.
Which is why "Crossroad" is such a great Bon Jovi record. The albums were always fair to average, but the singles were mega-shots of energy. Even the melodramatic ballads could convey the angst of blue-collar relationships. "Always" is romantic, "Wanted Dead Or Alive" outlaw mythology. I often get irritated by those who accuse hit-makers of being "corporate;" there is a skill and a knack to being a good songwriter. It means people pay attention to your songs and take them to heart.
Therein lies the rub. Bon Jovi took a lot of flack for some of these songs. But he (and the band that bears his name) have outlasted many of the 'important' artists that came and vanished with little or no consequence. "Crossroad" contains several rock classics, and that alone is enough to give it four stars. (But it is due for an update...)

Review(How original huh?).......2007-01-25
Personally, this is one of the absolute BEST soundtracks I have ever listened to. The music is calming, soothing, and truly wonderful. The music is so well put together and nicely coordinated and I feel like I am watching the movie again...it also makes great to read the Laura Ingalls Wilder books too. Try it...you might be suprised how well it fits. :)
Music that transcends simple meaning..........2006-07-16
Mark Isham's score for the motion picture A River Runs Through It is one of the most memorable and emotionally captivating film scores of all time. The arrangements of strings, piano, woodwinds create a meditative and reflective range of music throughout the film capturing all the emotions of this powerful drama about an American family in rural Montana. It is at once deeply haunting, moving, nostalgic and sentimental and captures the innocence and beauty of nature and childhood, as well as darker themes of rebellion and tragedy. There is a profound sense of emotion that is embedded within the music that sweeps over me every time I hear it. A combination of happiness, sadness, excitement, and reflection. There is something simply sweeping and majestic within his music. I couldn't think of anything else that would better compliment the film. Highly recommended.

Customer Reviews:
I got this one AFTER getting the CBS / Sony set........2007-05-30
First of all, they're both great. Where this album gets 5 stars, the Sony one would get 4. The main reason that I like this one over the Sony is because it has the original 29 on one disc. The Sony spreads it out over 2 discs, and (here's the annoying part) puts the alternate take right after the original take (I thought about even livening it up by having several comedians (Like Cheech Marin, Bobcat Goldthwait, Steve Martin, etc.) make comments like "One More Time !!!" between the takes). The sound quality of this is a A LOT better than the Sony. Either the Noise Reduction was improved, or Proper had much better originals.
Let me put it this way. If you want to study RJ's method, and listen for subtle differences, get the Sony. If you want it for entertainment purposes, with better sound, and spend a lot less bread in the process (even though it's an import), get this one.
The thin end of the blues wedge..........2005-02-19
"Malted Milk" and "Walkin' Blues" from Eric Clapton's Grammy-winning "Unplugged" (1992) were both Robert Johnson originals. His recent "Me and Mr. Johnson" and "Sessions for Robert J" prompted me to try this disc and I am thoroughly satisfied with my purchase. It feels great to listen to the original "Hellhound on my Trail", "If I Had Possession Over Judgment Day", "From Four Until Late", "Crossroad Blues", "Milkcow Blues", "Queen of Spades", "Sweet Home Chicago", "Me and the Devil Blues", "They're Red Hot" etc after falling in love with Eric Clapton's high-fidelity renditions. If you liked "Sessions for Robert J", you will most likely like this original with all of Robert Johnson's (29) songs.
This is a really good deal........2005-02-01
Robert Johnson only recorded 29 songs. Sony would like you to think that you should either get the complete recordings (with many alternate takes back to back with the master takes) or one of their "historically important" single disc comps. Proper gives you all the songs on a single disc. Sure Robert Johnson doesn't get a dime from this, but he sold his soul to the devil, who sold it to Sony. The art is a bit cheesy, but it's got every one of his songs on a single disc. That's a proper deal.

The Ulimate Jon Bon Jovi Experience!!!.......2001-10-21
If there is only one Bon Jovi Cd to own this is it!!!! I wasn't a major Jovi fan before listening to Crossroad, but after a friend of mine lent it too me I HAD to own it myself. I play it everywhere, in the car, at work, at the gym. It has a perfect balance of classic Bon Jovi rock and famous Jovi love songs. A beyond amazing combination of Jovi's best songs! I can't express in words how much I LOVE this cd!!!!!! This is a must have for anyone who calls themselves Bon Jovi fans!!! If you're not a fan of Bon Jovi, you will be after listening to this album!!!
the best of the best.......2000-09-23
I bought this album not long ago. I have to confess that I'm not a Bon Jovi fan from the first hour. The tophit I'ts my life brought me to this band and a girl made sure that I stick to it. I just love the balades and Always will forever have a very special meaning for me as it ties me to that important person. That's what romance is made of. That's what Bon Jovi's music is made of. And you can feel the power that is in these songs by listening to the records on this album. Take 'In these Arms' for example...It's full of desire and strenght...those who don't enjoy Bon Jovi are always laughing at me...but I don't care...that's another theme that somehow appears in the Bon Jovi lyrics: Just stick to what you are, stay how you are. There's no other way to describe this album...It's full of emotions.
Bon jovi's best yet!.......2000-08-24
Well it's official, it is the best Bon Jovi album to date! Full of old classic's as well as some new releases. It will take you back to the 80's as well as make you feel all romantic with it's slow ballads. Favorites include Bed of Roses and Keep the Faith. Great CD, a must for all Bon Jovi Fans!
Great Music from Jon from the past and present!.......2000-07-30
I began listening to Bon Jovi again after his recent new release CRUSH. Crossroads is a great CD that brings me back to the 80's. If you loved his music then you are guaranteed to love it now. Favorite songs are Living on a Prayer, Blaze of Glory, Always and Bed of Roses..The whole CD is great. A must have for any past or present Bon Jovi fans.

A must-have for all loyal Bon Jovi fans.......2007-02-17
This CD/DVD combo is a re-release of the original "Crossroads" compilation. Disc #1 is the same, with 2 favorite added tracks: "In these arms" & "Never Say Goodbye". Disc #2 has bonus tracks, some tracks from the Box set & various other hits from Slippery When Wet & These Days. My favorite on disc #2 is "Blood on Blood" LIVE (from the New Jersey record).
The DVD is part of the Live from London concert already released earlier.
Its part of my collection, I've been a fan for over 20 years.
Decent - Could have been much better!.......2006-08-31
I bought this at Strawberries Records for $28.00. I bought it mainly for CD 2 of "rarities & B-sides". It contains some great songs but there are 4 songs that are not rare at all. In fact, 3 of these songs are from their biggest selling album so to say they are rare is crazy. "Wild in the Streets", "Diamond Ring", "Let it Rock" and "Raise Your Hands" are all studio versions found on the original releases. Why not put some more live songs for us?! CD 1 is the same as the one released in 1994 except "Prayer 94" is replaced by "In These Arms" and "Never Say Goodbye" is added making 15 tracks. Adding "Never Say Goodbye" makes total sense to me but I miss "Prayer 94", I thought it was a great version. Lastly, the DVD from Wembley seems a bit week, the sound is muddy (on my system anyway) and you have to really turn up the volume. I don't have the original release so I don't know if it's the same. Overall for the price I paid, I think it's good but improving on the above mentioned would have made it great.
Bon Jovi is always good!.......2006-01-10
The Greatest hits cd, is what it is......If you are a big bon jovi fan you will love this cd, Personally I love it! Thats why I gave it 5 stars! Nice job bon jovi!

There's a lot of schlock on Broadway these days, so it's especially frustrating when a small, off-Broadway show doesn't get the recognition it deserves. Carried by the indomitable George Dvorsky and Sally Mayes in the title roles, Pete 'n' Keely should have been a lot more successful than it was, so we're lucky to have this recording to immortalize the little show that should have been. Inspired by the likes of Steve (Lawrence) and Eydie (Gorme), Pete and Keely are two high-voltage entertainers; the show purports to document their hectic 1968 TV special. Dvorsky and Mayes are fantastic as they frenetically go from clever originals by Patrick S. Brady and Mark Waldrop to over-the-top Rat Packy takes on classic tunes such as "Fever" and "Besame Mucho." As for the finger-snapping rendition of "Battle Hymn of the Republic," you've got to hear it to believe it. Our only qualm: the recording doesn't do justice to Bob Mackie's delirious costumes. Oh well, can't have it all. --Elisabeth Vincentelli
Customer Reviews:
It's Perfect.......2001-12-31
I lent my copy of Pete 'n' Keely to a friend. When she returned my CD, she said that it was perfect. I agree. Many of the songs are an enjoyable trip down memory lane that brings back many fond memories. The new songs by Patrick Brady and Mark Waldropfit right in. Sally Mayes does the best rendition of "Black Coffee" that I have ever heard.Goerge Dvorsky's Fever" is also fantastic. It is not unusual for me to be sitting at my desk at work and have one of the songs run through my memory. That isd without any music in the background. My friends who have heard me play the CD have purchased a copy for themselves, they liked the CD so much.
Upbeat Musical Magic.......2001-12-11
This album is a MUST for any fan of Broadway - full of upbeat musical magic performed flawlessly by George Dvorsky and Sally Mayes.
The cd captures wonderfully the manic energy of Pete and Keely - a television couple that reigned supreme in the 1960s. Throughout the album we hear them at their best as they recall their joint musical career and their award winning signature tunes.
Dvorsky is a smooth as silk baritone with shades of Robert Goulet. His rendition of "Fever" on this album is alone worth the cost of the cd. Although done with a slight comic edge, the song comes alive with a wonderful nuance that Dvorsky delivers effortlessly. You'll find yourself replaying that track again and again.
The same could be said for Maye's sparkling "Black Coffee". Her voice is pure velvet, with a touch of "seen it all and done it all" flowing throughout this sensational track.
This original cast recording has been produced perfectly. The sound quality is superb, and the inner liner has some great photos of Pete n Keely in their glamorous Bob Mackie costumes that were such a huge part of the New York City premier.
If you like Broadway - then this cd is a must have...
If you like to smile when you listen to a cd - then this recording is a must have...
And....if you like your music upbeat and infectious - then this original cast recording is a MUST HAVE for your collection...

This recital was recorded when April Verch, a Canadian Grand Masters and Canadian Open fiddle champion, was only 22 years old. It reveals a maturing artist with a strong technique and a burgeoning musical imagination. She was born in the Ottawa Valley and was performing on the radio as a fiddler and step dancer before her 10th birthday. Her playing reflects Appalachian, Quebecois, Cape Breton, and other North American, Acadian, Anglo and Celtic traditions, but rhythms borrowed from South America and Stephane Grappelli's Parisian "Manouche Swing" add a playful, worldly sophistication. The tunes include a selection of Verch's originals, plus Canadian reels, a French contredanse, a treatment of a Brazilian choro by Jacob do Bandolim, and even "The Old Rugged Cross." The accompaniment is deferential, which permits the precise bowing and tonalities of the fiddler to reign supreme, but Bob DeAngelis's beautifully realized double-reed solos also make a strong impression. --Christina Roden

Eh-plus!.......2002-02-07
Four words: This One's A Keeper. Tasty, tasteful and diverse, I play this one over and over without ever tiring of it, and for me that's saying a lot. This, her first US release, is so good it made me immediately start searching around for how to get her Canadian stuff. April tackles Canadian Celtic reels as well as oldtime Appalachian and Swing styles, all with a confident energy and a teasingly sly slide (especially in "Sneaky"). Maybe "Verchuosity" is so listenable because of its diversity- as you listen through the CD it's constantly changing moods, from swingy to mysterious to the irresistibly funky "Diabinho Malucco" (hey, anyone who puts a Jacob do Bandolim tune on their CD gets my immediate attention)... and all of them infectious. Her violin tone is rosy warm, her timing very satisfying. No matter what one's favourite style is, if Verchuosity doesn't reach you, see your doctor. And she's only 22!? Life is good.

Album Description
The Road Ahead album is a concept album. Almost all the songs were written while on tour from 1999-2000 in places like Nashville, TN, Mandeville, LA, Toronto, ON & Baton Rouge, LA to name a few. Very acoustic album with lots of nice percussion and tasteful production. Produced by Chris Rosser & Jerry York.

beautiful voice with incredible attitude........2004-10-01
I have just returned from seeing Martha's trouble live for the first time. 8 of my friends piled into a table and diverted our attention away from the screaming alcoholics in the background and focused fully on the beautiful talent on stage. First I must comment on Jen's (The lead singer) voice. Crystal clear, if I didn't know better I would swear she wasn't really singing. Pure talent that is so hard to find. She sits in a char with a bongo between her legs and an assortment of small noise-makers to add to the effect. Her husband Rob stands beside her playing guitar and a base player who keeps smiling at his friend who is seated one table over. The three of them together shoot out song after song, for 4 fantastic hours, including one cover of nora Jones' popular song and happy birthday to a fellow drunk girl. Singing various songs from all of her albums, "Story of two cities" nearly brought me to tears, "The road ahead" lifted my spirits, along with every song played tonight. I have yet to find a song by them I do not like. During a small break Jen sat down with us and talked about how happy she was that we could make it and how excited she was that we sang along with her songs. Wow, humble as well as multi-talented! She autographed a copy of her newest album "Forget october" and ran back to the stage to continue her concert. We stayed until the very last song, after she asked if we had any requests and resang our favorite song "Waverly" (Also from the forget october album). After the show was over and we were about to leave she and her husband, who has an amazing voice used not nearly enough, approached us again and thanked us for supporting their music. I asked if her husband was planning on singing any solos sometime, and she's talking him into it. I also asked what her favorite song to perform was, which she replied "Forget october" (number 8 from the self-titled album.) I left the concert feeling very fulfilled and lifted up. Although this review seems more for the "Forget october" album, I fully enjoy "The road ahead." Meeting the band has made me fall in love with their music even more. There is so much charm and happiness between them all, it's amazing. Their albums are so full of heart and soul. I recomend their albums to anyone and you should all catch them live if they are ever near you.
