This collection is "wonderful". Also, try to see the live show, "Always....Patsy Cline" when it comes to your area. The show is much more than just singing as a "fan" tells the story of her supposed "involvment" with Patsy. Both this CD and the show are "the greatest!"

I looked for awhile to find a colllection that included almost all the songs I remembered from my younger days. This CD pretty well does that. I have heard a lot of imitators over the years, but no one has come very close to her great style and sound.

This is a terrific collection with a wide range of songs from one of the most spectacular voices the music industry has ever heard. Patsy Cline's gorgeous voice and the emotion she put into her songs makes them heartbreaking to listen to, or if an upbeat song, especially fun to listen to. She just can't be topped. I only wish there were a Patsy Cline Christmas album available. I highly recommend this CD to any Patsy Cline or country music fan. Great selection of hit songs!

I just love listening to this old style of music. Patsy Cline has such a pure tone to her voice. I have to remind myself that even though some of these subjects are a little degrading to women it was a different era and it's the lady's voice that I love. I experienced some volume fading and getting louder in few of the songs. But, that's my only complaint.

The Country Music Foundation offers 104 songs--more than four hours of music--even though Patsy Cline died at 30 after less than a decade of recording. Given the wavering quality of her later string-laden work, four CDs might be excessive, but this set comprehensively follows Cline from upstart country boomer to pop diva. She could take charge of a song from day one, as the two 1954 radio transcriptions prove. On her vibrant late-1950s work, she moves from honky-tonk and rockabilly to soft ballads in commanding fashion. "Walkin After Midnight," her first hit, features Don Helms's gentle steel guitar while her vocals blend raw power with emotional vulnerability. By 1957, vocal groups had entered into the mix, and in 1961, hits such as "I Fall to Pieces," "She's Got You," and Willie Nelson's "Crazy" brought her pop stardom. --Marc Greilsamer

I'm really happy with this purchase. I enjoy all the CD's in the package and the booklet that came with it. I love Patsy's music and some of the songs I didn't even know that she sang, I wasn't born whine Patsy was alive. Her songs are timeless and never out of style. Her style of singing really draws you into the song and when she sings she's living the words in that song. She really did sing from her heart.

This collection is an excellent portrait of Patsy Cline's career, and contains many live performances as well as her most beloved classics. There are also a number of selections you won't find in any other compilation. The best box set on the greatest country singer to ever live.

I just bought a 2 CD Boxed set of Patsy Cline and listening to her is something else. We lost a great singer way too early back in the early 60s during that terrible tragic plane crash. She is definitely a classic woman. I would highly recommend this boxed set to anyone who likes the oldies. I am definitely going to get this one to go with the others that I have of Patsy Cline.

    Poor Patsy has been gussied up and repackaged so many times that only Elvis and Hank Williams can rival her for Most Popular Dead Star. This collection of 32 tracks on two CDs doesn't really live up to its name--it's hard to imagine an "ultimate" anthology that omits "There He Goes" and "Three Cigarettes in an Ashtray" over such inclusions as "Bill Bailey, Won't You Please Come Home." But for fans who want more than a single CD and less than a box set, there's plenty here that thrills, and not just the major hits. Listen, for example, to Cline's pinpoint intonation on "I Love You So Much It Hurts," or how she nails the stratospheric last note on ol' Hank's "Lovesick Blues." Production-wise, some of Owen Bradley's Nashville Sound seems dated, of course, but emotionally, it all sounds so intimate as to have been piped in from the grave. Lord knows there's no contemporary Nashville singer wielding this kind of artistry. Or, for that matter, moxie. --Alanna Nash

      Like many prominent singers of the 20th century, Patsy Cline was encouraged by label figures to stray from her roots and record pop standards intended to broaden her appeal. However, only the greatest singers--talents like Ray Charles, Frank Sinatra, Nat "King" Cole, and Etta James--can put a distinctive stamp on war horses and invest them with enough fresh emotional power to actually emerge from the experiment with an enhanced reputation. Cline certainly belongs in this group, as evidenced by this collection of 14 standards. Like James, for instance, Cline wasn't necessarily supportive of crossover dreams, but as long as she was in a studio she might as well deliver the goods, whether the musical backdrop was a steel guitar or a string section.         Perhaps more than any singer this side of Elvis, Patsy Cline's legacy has been hashed over time and again by numerous posthumous recordings, most of which are of marginal quality and seldom tell the story properly. This set contains some fine material from the latter part of Cline's career--gorgeous readings of Irving Berlin's "Always" and Hank Williams's "Your Cheatin' Heart" show her aptitude for making standards of both pop and country her own--but it misses the mark by including none of her biggest hits from the era, such as "Crazy," "I Fall to Pieces," and "Sweet Dreams." This collection wins points for truth in advertising--its title reads "Classic," not "Best of"--but approach this one only after you have something more representative of Cline's career--12 Greatest Hits, for example--already in hand. --Daniel Durchholz
