Product Description
SOUTHERN MEETS SOUL is a jubilee of American music in the style of southern and country gospel with soul and r&b seasoning. It's an exciting new sound, but not a brand new trip for The Jordanaires, The Light Crust Doughboys, Nokie Edwards and Larry "T-Byrd" Gordon--since these innovative artists have been cross-pollinating the very best in American music for decades. This album is the latest in the Greenhaw Records' series of gospel albums which have been Grammy Award-Nominated the past 7-out-of-8 years and Grammy Award-Winning in 2003 for the album WE CALLED HIM MR. GOSPEL MUSIC: THE JAMES BLACKWOOD TRIBUTE ALBUM. SOUTHERN MEETS SOUL is the story of influential singers and instrumentalists blending music from the legendary sounds of Texas, Nashville and the Pacific Northwest. The Jordanaires, The Light Crust Doughboys, Nokie and T-Byrd are singing and playing with unbridled fire and creativity as they bring their artistry from thousands of recordings and stage! performances to this signature, career album.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Album of the Year.......2006-07-17

This innovative album is a masterpiece of a production. What an idea: southern gospel with soul-as in "r&b" soul! The singers, the arrnagements, everything is just marvelous. Harkens back to the very best of Elvis Presley's and Jim Reeve's classic recordings. Voice of Art Greenhaw of The Light Crust Doughboys with The Jordanaires is rich, expressive, velvety. The women in my family go wild when they hear it. The guitars are fabulously twangy. In short, a classic, essential album that represents the best in performances and recording arts. Applause to the tasty sax of TByrd Gordon who adds just the right soul touches.

5 out of 5 stars This is another one of those great southern gospel cds .......2006-02-15

This cd picks up where the other great cds of this group leaves off. I never cease to be amazed at what this group is able to accomplish. It's been said that the sky is the limit and I feel like this is very true about this organization.

As far as the grammy awards are concerned, this cd was nominated for this coveted award and should have taken the prize. Maybe next year will be the time for another award!

Mr. Greenshaw, keep up the good work!

5 out of 5 stars Gospel Album of the Year!.......2005-10-26

Greenhaw Records has done it again and given us the album of the year in gospel. This fantastic, concept album has more pop and classical elements giving this masterwork a "baroque-country" feel, if you can believe it! A lot of beautiful, classy guitar work here, evidently in the Ventures mode. The contemporary vocals are at an all-time high, and it's especially wonderful to hear legendary tenor Gordon Stoker of The Jordanaires dueting at times. This album has the ability to introduce American gospel music to the world-----with its catchy tunes, poetic lyrics, and hit parade and Top Ten appeal of the songs. This CD is the perfect, even more artistic follow-up to Nokie Edwards of The Ventures and The Jordanaires and The Light Crust Doughboys gem from last year, 20TH CENTURY GOSPEL. If you think they don't make records like they used to at RCA and Liberty and Capitol and Columbia, just spin this 2005 masterpiece from Elvis' vocal group and the western swing kings and the Ventures' most famous guitarist and the soul man, "T-Byrd".
