Love it!!!.......2007-06-13
I love this CD. My favorite songs are Don't Give Up, Eloquent, and Thank You. I think you should get this CD.
SR is hitting the mark.......2007-05-14
Starting off with a punch, the CD hits the mark. Not Alright is the kind of razor sharp truth that sets SR apart from the top-40 CCM crowd. The title track Face Of Love is the high water mark for this band, surpassing Alone on their last album. It's no wonder it was the most played CD of last year. PLEASE make a live/remix album?????
Nothing like Rockin Christian Tunes! .......2007-01-04
Sanctus Real - Great Group - Great Music - Great Message - GREAT CD
They Are Alright.......2006-11-27
I have enjoyed the singles 'The Face of Love' and 'I'm Not Alright' so I decided to get this album. I have not heard any of the previous music by Sanctus Real.
This is a quality rock album with very good lyrics. Some of the issues that the songs deal with are as follows: The loss of a loved one through death, encouraging married couples to 'Don't Give Up', and praising the Lord 'Thank You'.
The song 'We're Trying' has a catchy sound. It is talking about how we as Christians/humans sin but are trying to do right. It says: 'We're liars and thieves, we're destroying the peace, but we're trying.'
'Benjamin' is a song about a person who has lost his father about the same time that his child was born. It is very moving.
I am quite impressed with this album and would recommend it.
Wow.......2006-11-09
I purchased this CD around three months ago, and it's already becoming one of my altime favorites. It expertly blends pop ballads, soft rock, and Sanctus Real's own blend of passionate rock and guitar. Some of the best songs are "I'm Not Alright", "Fly," "The Face of Love" "Where We Belong" and "We're Trying." All and all, a great rock album with great lyrics.

Customer Reviews:
Very good show which I hadn't heard of..........2007-05-13
I was very into theatre in high school and college and thought I was up on most musicals, but had never heard of this show until recently. It's comprised of three short stories which were adapted into the musical format. The first two stories are tied together very well, although the last seems tacked on. But the songs are catchy and it's fairly easy to figure out what's happening simply by listening to the songs. There are two songs which are tied for my favoritism: "It's a Fish" from Adam and Eve and "You Are Not Real" from Passionella. Check it out.
THE APPLE TREE (1966 ORIGINAL BROADWAY CAST).......2007-04-10
IT WAS EXACTLY WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR. I WENT TO THE REVIVAL OF THE APPLE TREE ON BROADWAY IN NEW YORK CITY AND LOVED THE SCORE BUT THERE WASN'T A SOUNDTRACK AVAILABLE SO I PURCHASED THE ORIGINAL VERSION AND I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!
I still remember these songs after 40 years.......2006-11-05
I saw this show on the stage when it first ran, and have never forgotten it. The key to a good Broadway show is this question: Are you humming the songs when you leave the theatre? In the case of The Apple Tree, the answer is a resounding "Yes." I have been waiting 40 years for this show to be revived, and I have tickets for the revival opening in December at the Roundabout. I hope not to be disappointed, for the trio of Barbara Harris, a very young Alan Alda, and the late Larry Blyden were terrific. The three-part concept can be jarring because just when you're getting into the story, it ends -- but just enjoy the kind of songs they just don't write anymore.
Really 2.5.......2006-07-25
SO this is another show thats actually three one acts. The first "The Diary of Adam and Eve" is the best by far. It has really cute songs and nice plot. Thats the only reason I rounded this up from 2.5 to 3 stars. The rest of the show is nothing great. "Lady and Tiger" is short and boring. And "Passionella" is exactly what it sounds like, a knock off of Cinderella. But hey, its a good show for collectors and "The Diary of Adam and Eve" is nice. Favorite Song: "Its A Fish"
Boring material that you forget very easily.......2006-06-29
According to some reviews, this musical was supposed to be very good and I bought it. Unfortunately, I was quite dissapointed. It's composed of three different tales, the first one referring to the Adam & Eve biblical story. The lyrics here are very silly and tedious. The second tale, "The Lady or the Tiger?" contains songs that are simply awful, probably the worst ever written for a Broadway show. The third story, "Passionella", contains music that does nothing to make things better. The album contains a good informative booklet in English, German, French & Italian (as Sony uses to do)which says that Time magazine defined this show as "three moldy figs". I entirely agree. I would recommend this musical to those suffering from insomnia: it will put them to sleep right away.

This Ron Howard film parlays the troubled story of Nobel laureate John Forbes Nash Jr., a gifted Princeton mathematics professor tormented for decades by paranoid schizophrenia, into something considerably richer than typical Hollywood triumph-against-all-odds fare. Howard has teamed here again with frequent collaborator James Horner, and it's the composer who deftly shades the film's difficult emotional landscape and helps impart a compelling humanity. Horner's first task is not inconsiderable: musically portraying the arcane realm of mathematical theorems that are the story's backdrop. In doing so, the composer leans heavily on modern minimalist technique, bright flourishes that recur briefly throughout an orchestral score that increasingly reflects Nash's bleak inner landscape in its quietly somber and brooding tones. And while Horner has frequently been accused of excessively repeating himself in his scores, the neo-minimalist gambit employed on this reflectively pastoral, postmodernist soundscape neatly nips such criticism in the bud. Nash's triumph is ultimately an intensely personal one, well reflected in Welsh soprano Charlotte Church's lilting performance of the Horner/Will Jennings ballad "All Love Can Be." This enhanced CD also features notes by the director and composer, as well as exclusive photos and the film's trailer. --Jerry McCulley
Customer Reviews:
Haven't I heard this before?.......2007-06-20
As other reviewers will tell you yes this is another Horner machine made soundtrack. But it still sounds good! If you are a Horner fan by all means buy it otherwise "at your own risk"!
And another thing that gets me is no one even bothered to mention "Alicia Discovers Nash's Dark World" I happened to like this one this is the song that plays when he is in the hospital.
a beautiful score.......2007-02-09
James Horner's soundtrack for A BEAUTIFUL MIND is as psychologically intense as the film it so effectively embellishes.
Charlotte Church provides an appropriately eerie and largely non-verbal soprano to this remarkable motion picture score, yet one that would seem only quirky were it not so beautifully embedded in a musical stream that draws one inexorably and almost vicariously into the emotional turbulence of the Princeton mathematician John Nash.
There is an angelic nature to the shape and texture of this music, one that is able to turn demonic as the story line requires. Both by brilliance and by dementia, Nash seems the object of external forces, rising with supreme heroism (at least in the film's version of events) to conquer. The music is there at each score, coaxing the viewer into empathic solidarity with this deeply troubled man and his long-suffering and preternaturally beautiful wife.
This is mood music of the deeply engaging variety. Its lush tonal landscape is achieved under the baton of the composer himself. The score's vast range of volume and expression would certainly have made it a joy to watch in performance.
Alas, we don't have that.
But we have this.
An ethereal, compelling, even gripping tone poem. Buy it.
A Beautiful Mind.......2006-08-09
Absolutely gorgeous - my husband keeps it in his car and listens to it whenever he's driving.
Haunting, lovely, majestic.......2006-04-04
The sound track for "A Beautiful Mind" stayed with me long after the movie. The CD has all the themes that made the movie so emotionally powerfull. James Horner, composer and conductor, perfectly matches the excitement of genius and the terror of mental disability. Charlotte Church's clear and gentle voice compliments the music and used instrumentally creates a haunting refrain. I loved the movie and this music is wonderful.
Dark.......2006-02-20
This is one of the darkest and most emotional soundtrack, and yet it is filled with more inspiring songs.
Best soundtrack ive ever heard.

This collection includes Ernesto Lecuona's complete 1954 recordings plus a series of 78s made in 1927-28. Ten of the recordings were previously unreleased. This is a lot of lightweight Cuban piano music to deal with at once, but it's definitely worth doing. Lecuona's music, which is having a major revival, may not be important. But it's consistently charming and entertaining. The 78s, which sound surprisingly good, reveal even more of a virtuoso than do the later recordings, but throughout we hear playing that expresses the spirit of the music extremely well. And yes, the famous Malagueña is here, sounding very sexy. --Leslie Gerber
Customer Reviews:
Lecuona Plays Lecuona.......2007-05-12
Oh Boy! What can I tell you about this magnificent collection of musical jewels from our Maestro Lecuona. I bought the original Long Playing Record back in the 50's in my country.
I purchased it again shortly after my arrival to the US, and I was lucky enough to buy it on DVD from Amazon, once I found out they had it.

Lecuona the Cuban pianist is Great!.......2005-08-17
In my opinion this is one of the best CD's from Lacuona, Most of his piano compositions are recorded here (original ones), What, Ms. Leslie Gerber forgot to mention is that Mr.Lecuona was a band leader,"Lecuona and the Cuban Boys", remembers him? Or maybe she does not have sufficient information about him. The music from Lecuona still is very well alive today. I came across his recordings on my own, no one ever told me about this great pianist. I happened to hear the Malague?a by another great Cuban composer and band leader Perez Prado (The Real Mambo King) in one of his albums and Lecuona was the author. That got me interested in him. I'm pretty sure that Ms.Leslie Gerber does not mean any harm trying to put this composer down. It's just that maybe all she knows is Gerber baby food stuff!
The Cuban Chopin.......2004-06-18
What a great album and great value. There is music here that will make you smile, break your heart, inspire you, and Lecuona's skill is breathtaking. If you enjoy classical piano music (with a Cuban/Spanish influence), you'll love this. No, it doesn't display the virtuosity, complexity or seriousness of Lizst, Chopin or Beethoven, but it's fun, beautiful, dramatic yet accessible. You'll love it.
Lecuona, the musical genious . . . . ........2002-10-16
I feel compelled to identify myself first. I am Cuban born who arrived in the US in 1960 at the age of 16 years old. I am a US citizen since 1965 and a US Army Veteran of Viet Nam. I will die defending the right Ms. Leslie Garber has of expresing her opinions. But what I will not condone is her ignorance. To say that Lecuona writes "lightweight Cuban piano music" and that "Lecuona's music may not be important" is to show ignorance. A musician that composes GREAT music in several genres of the music world, a musician that in all genres has highly succesful pieces, and, a musician that after many years, (70-80 years) is still heard and admired can not be called other than MUSICAL GENIOUS and a CLASSICAL MUSICIAN. His music is so beautiful that it will live forever. From his Afro-Cuban compositions, to his romantic popular boleros, to his valses, to his Zarzuelas, Lecuona demonstrates once and again, time after time his immense musical talent. His Afro-Cuban "Cafetal", his romantic boleros "Noche Azul" and "Amapola", His vibrant and colorful "Comparsa" and "Andalucia", his classical Valses, just to mention a few things, makes Lecuona to stand together with the great musicians of the world. The fact that Hollywood made a film around "Estas en mi corazon" and that great singers, like Placido Domingo, want to sing Lecuona's music speaks immensely well of Lecuona/s greatness. The fact the popular instrumental orchestras like Faith, Conniff, Mantovani, Cugat have arranged and interpreted a lot of Lecuona's music also says a lot about Lecuona's versatility in his work. Lecuona is probably important to many millions of people and his music is certainly not lightweight. And if the only thing Ms. Garber can say about "Malaguena" is that "it sounds very sexy" is to demonstrate that she does not know a thing about music. It definitely does not give her the priviledge of commenting about Lecuona's music.
LECUONA IS NO LIGHTWEIGHT.......2002-02-27
Lecuona is one of the most important composers of Latin-America. He is by no means the "unimportant" and "lightweight" Leslie Gerber (whomever that may be) claims, having been hailed for performances of his earlier (and "less mature") works by the likes of Maurice Ravel.
In my opinion the highlight of the set is the devilish "La 32". It's also interesting to compare his interpretations of the same works at different times in his career, like the two recordings of "Por que te vas?" and "Amorosa", especially keeping in mind that Lecuona seldom notated and improvised quite frequently, leaving the transcription work to his students.

Dolly: Burlap & Satin / Real Love.......2007-05-15
love these albums - must have for any collector of Dolly's music.
DOLLY AT HER BEST.......2007-05-13
This is Dolly at the top of her game. This cd shows a contemporary side, with a hint the of 50's and 60's era thrown in, to Dolly while still letting her remain country.
A rare jewel.......2007-05-08
I've been looking for these two on CD forever! About 12 years ago my cassettes broke... totally used to schreds... and not until now did I get the CD's :) I recommend these to anyone who loves Dolly's incredible voice, song lyrics, her tender touch to both romance and heart ache and just everything Dolly :)
My faves from these two? I love these albums, but if I had to pick I'd listen to Gamble either way, Appalachian memories, Once in a very blue moon... and... of course... the VERY funny I hope you're never happy :D
"More Rare Dolly".......2007-04-05
"Burlap and Satin" makes it debut in CD format and this makes "Real Love's" second appearance on CD. The original CD version of "Real Love" goes for a lot of bucks as it has been out of print for years so it's nice to see it get a renewed life again. Two great Dolly albums with perfect sound and wonderful CD artwork. Get these copies while they last as they will become collector's items very soon.
My Favorite In This Collection.......2007-03-25
Finally after all these years two wonderful Pop/Country albums that first were released on LP, are on one CD together. "Burlap & Satin" features one of Dolly Parton's most beautiful album covers that she's ever made & the artcover to "Real Love" is equally beautiful.
The album's first ten songs are from "Burlap & Satin" which were released in 1983. They contain some of Dolly's best of the 1980s like the moving & heartbreaking "Appalachian Memories" which she wrote for her father who tryed making it in the big city, but couldn't, it also is one of Dolly's fan's favorites too. A enjoyable "I Really Don't Want To Know" which is a duet with Willie Nelson and "Potential New Boyfriend" which was a top twenty country single (even though it's more Pop) and was accompanied by Dolly's first ever music video. Another songs on the first half are kind of forgettable but still good like "A Cowboy's Ways" and "A Gamble Either Way" which were outtake songs from Dolly's movie "Best Little Whorehouse in Texas".
The second half of the album is from "Real Love" which was released in 1985 and was Dolly's last album for RCA. The second part also contains more pop then "Burlap & Satin" contained. The highlighted songs from the second half is "Think About Love", "Tie Our Love (In A Double Knot)", "Don't Call It Love" and "Real Love" (a duet with Kenny Rogers that reached #91 on the U.S. pop charts). My only problem with this two albums on one disc is the sound, it's very low and theres no bass in any of the songs, however the price is great!.
Both of these albums include their original artwork from the LPs inside the CD booklet, it also haves linernotes, but no lyrics.

Customer Reviews:
Great to hear some different versions!!!.......2007-06-29
I was excited to hear this after purchasing "Free as a Bird". As usual, the sound quality is above average, but some of the performances are not. Yellow Submarine's new sound-effects mix was too much, and it took away from the song itself. Here, There and Everywhere's new mix wasn't very good either, as it featured only a guide vocal by Paul for the instrumental takes, not a stronger vocal take. I understand that these are meant as a glimpse into the process of creating these masterpiece songs, but surely some better material could have been used.
On the plus side, "Baby's in Black" sounded fantastic, and makes me wish that all of the material from the Hollywood Bowl concerts would be reissued. Overall, not a bad disc. I guess Beatles fans should take what they can get since EMI and Capitol are still withholding some of the most prized Beatles recordings in their archives from CD release.
For the diehard Beatles collector .......2006-12-21
I bought this CD single back when "Anthology 2" was new in the stores, and the CD single was available as an inexpensive domestic release. I don't know if it's worth the asking list price as an import unless you're a diehard Beatles collector.
The song "Real Love" is definitely one of Lennon's loveliest, and George, Paul, Ringo, and Jeff Lynne did a fine job of fleshing out the original demo into something that indeed sounds like an actual Beatles track. It's also available on "Anthology 2" and it's so good it almost makes you wish that the Beatles had given us more than two "new" songs in the late 1990s. The bonus tracks, however, are a mixed lot. There's a live version of "Baby in Black" from the Hollywood Bowl concerts which helps us to understand why the Beatles nixed plans for an official live album in the 60s, and why the late 1970s "Hollywood Bowl" LP has never been released on CD. It's awful. There's a remix of "Yellow Submarine" that has since been put to shame by the version on the "Songtrack." Finally, there's an alternate version of "Here, There, and Everywhere" that I truly wish had made it onto "Anthology 2" rather than being buried here. It's one of my favorite McCartney ballads.
So, if you're a tried-and-true collector, you're going to want this one. If you're not, you can get the best song here on "Anthology 2"
Great song, but it ain't the Beatles.......2006-06-10
Even given the tragic circumstances that prevented a full-fledged reunion of the Beatles for the "Anthology" mini-series of the mid-Nineties, "Real Love" is, in the end, no more a BEATLES song than was "(Just Like)Starting Over" for example. Except for George Harrison's definitive slide guitar breaks, this is John Lennon's showcase through and through. Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr might well have participated in this recording, but you'd never know it from listening. This isn't to say that it's a bad song...on the contrary, it's as good a Lennon paeon to love as he ever wrote in the late Seventies. But that's the point, really. Never mind that this wasn't the John Lennon who had written "Tomorrow Never Knows" or "Strawberry Fields Forever;" he wasn't even the guy who had written "This Boy," "If I Fell" or "Yes It Is," to name just a few of his love songs from the pre-Pepper days. For better or worse, John Lennon had simplified his songwriting craft considerably by the time of his death, and "Real Love" is planted firmly in that place in time, a time that was long past that of the Beatles. The question that will never be answered, of course, is, would he have made the same changes in his songwriting if there had still been a Beatles after 1970? We'll never know.
The other three songs on this CD are fine if minor inclusions, with "Baby's In Black" particularly standing out as a slice of life from the Beatles USA touring days in 1965.
Great Song.......2005-02-26
In 1995, the Beatles began working on their "Anthology" project, and I believe this CD serves as a good preview to the set. You get the newly recorded song, "Real Love," and outtakes plus a live version of "Baby's in Black" from the 1965 Hollywood Bowl concert (which, I might add, was not released on the 1977 Hollywood Bowl record, so it is truly unreleased.) I now own this single on CD and vinyl, just because I love the Beatles. "Real Love" is one of John's best songs ever.
Excellent single.......2004-03-24
In 1995 and 1996, The Beatles Anthology set was released. This was a six disc set (three volumes of two discs), and it featured a plethora of rare tracks. Among the tracks on the sets were two old John Lennon demos which the remaining members of the band got together to finish - Free as a Bird and Real Love. Read on for my review of the former single.
The title track here is John Lennon as you knew and loved him. It's just a shame this little rarity didn't surface earlier! But, the surviving band members' new touches to the song make it nothing short of excellent. In my opinion, this song is superior to Free as a Bird, the other "newly finished" John Lennon demo. Furthermore, the single includes some rare B-Sides! First and foremost, you get early demos of the classics Yellow Submarine and Here There and Everywhere. You even get an excellent live version of the underrated masterpiece Baby's in Black, recorded at the Hollywood Bowl!
The Free as a Bird and Real Love singles have been discontinued in America, but if you're a Beatle maniac, I recommend hunting them down, as the rare tracks make them a worthwhile purchase.

Touching and Beautiful.......2007-04-09
This is Not Real Love is a beautiful song with Mutya from the Sugababes. It has an old school new school feel to it. This song shows that George Michael gets better with age musically and lyrically.

Great compilation.......2002-05-10
I don't actually own this particular compilation, however, since I own nearly every recording represented on these discs...I think I'm qualified to comment. This is a wonderful representation of the high quality of work that DRG Records does.
The previous review is way off the mark. This is definitely not a waste of time or money. This is 25 years of preserving Broadway shows, Off-Broadway shows, studio recordings (mostly from the city center concerts), etc. So what if they "aren't as good as the original", DRG is preserving many recordings and artists that other mainstream labels don't or won't. You have wonderful recordings from Brian Stokes Mitchell, Nathan Lane, Debbie Gravitte, Tyne Daly, Anthony Perkins, Joanna Gleason, Marin Mazzie, Carol Burnett, Heather Headley, Patti LuPone, Barbara Cook, etc., and many of these are from Original Cast Recordings just as they appeared on Broadway. This is an excellent sampler of the work going on at DRG. No...I'm not an employee...just an avid listener and collector of theatre recordings.
A disappointment.......2001-12-15
There's a reason you've probably never heard of most of the songs and shows on this album, not to mention most of the artists. This is a second-rate collection of second-rate numbers performed by mostly second-rate artists. In the case of the shows that were revivals, the performances on the original cast recordings were better. Don't waste your money.

The American psychedelic movement was bound to produce unexpected progeny--including the 1970s, which began as a mainstream attempt to absorb the "free love," recreational drug use, and sartorial eccentricities of the previous decade. But there were parallel repercussions elsewhere in the world, and nowhere was this phenomenon more fascinating than in West Africa. As LPs became cheaper and readily available, local musicians began to incorporate the fuzz and wah-wah guitar vamps, cheesy organ riffs, blatting saxes, and fat, funky bass lines of sixties R&B plus Santana-influenced Latin rhythms and the extended, destination-free guitar solos typical of the San Francisco sound. These were not emulated by rote but freely adapted by younger Africans, mostly students, whose own acoustic traditions had already been transformed by exposure to urban technology. The resulting amalgams, whether they evolved in Benin, Nigeria, Gambia, Cote d'Ivoire, or Mali, remain incredibly lively, funny, inventive, and surprising. --Christina Roden

Neat Collection.......2006-12-16
I won't say this is the best "world music" CD I've ever heard, or even the best Luaka Bop production, but it is very good and very unusual. Let's say certainly well above average - as are the lengths of many of the songs. The music is hard to compare to anything else... maybe psychedelic reggae? Maybe not. Anyway, if you're broad-minded, musically speaking, chances are you'll like it, so buy it.
Love it love it love it love it.......2006-09-21
This is a great album. I bought the first week it came out and still have not tired of it a year and a half later. Get it! You will put its songs on mix tapes and people will think you're awesome for having found these rare but outstanding songs!
Funky and Original.......2006-08-10
This is a great CD. Even richer and more nuanced than I expected.
Real Music.......2006-04-19
This is the best 12 song compilation cd I've ever experienced in my life. Anyone who votes anything less than 5 star is obviously a cheap wad or doesn't know anything about music.
Funky For the Money.......2005-10-19
If you like funk, or rock, or jazz, or just love good music you will like this CD. It is like a mix between James Brown and Jimi Hendrix. Every song is amazing and they are all different. Sure you may not understand the language, but funk is international. Hands down worth the price.
