About the Artist
Hello, everyone! My name is Patricia Baker. I am a certified rehabilitation registered nurse and a published lyricist. I started writing poetry and lyrics 6 years ago. I'm an avid music lover. My tastes range from classical to pop to jazz to country to bluegrass to Celtic to rock and everything in between.
My father had the biggest influence over me, musically speaking, as I was growing up. He was a fiddler until he had a heart attack twelve years ago. He taught himself how to play during his hitch in the Army. He played in a band. I remember looking at old pictures of him onstage and thinking that my dad was the most handsome fellow up there. He purchased his first fiddle in Germany. His favorite music is bluegrass. I grew up listening to him listen to tapes of Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs. He loved Hank Williams and Patsy Cline. He liked Emmy Lou Harris and Loretta Lynn, Ralph Stanley and Bill Monroe, Joan Baez and Ray Charles. He loved classical music-and, still does!
Because he had a large family to support, he wasn't able to play out regularly except at occasional VFW dances and bars. Mostly, he just jammed with friends and family every chance he got and at home where we were his "audience". At the time, I wasn't fond of bluegrass and country. At the time, I was more into Led Zeppelin, Alice Cooper, Elton John, Deep Purple, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. I was into the hippie beads, the long stringy straight hair and pale pink lipstick. Then, along came The Eagles, Journey, The Pointer Sisters and Christopher Cross. Then, B.B. King, Percy Sledge, The Four Tops, Diana Ross and the Supremes, The Fifth Dimension, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson (before he got too weird, that is), Al Green, Barry White, Rod Stewart, The Bee Gee's and that whole Saturday Night Fever thing. Yeah, I loved platform shoes, sequined halter-tops and John Travolta! Whew! What a musical journey it was in the 70's and 80's! !! As time progressed and I got older, I found bluegrass comforting and familiar. I discovered that I really loved country music. It had a different sound than the "trad" country I grew up with. I'm not knocking "trad" country at all. After all, I love Marty Robbins, Hank Williams, Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, Conway Twitty and George Jones. Nobody will EVER take their place. I remember seeing Conway Twitty in person once about twenty years ago. I fell in love with him and his music. He was so REAL. That sort of clinched it for me. It's been a love affair ever since.
The whole point of music, for me, is that it makes me remember times, places, people and faces. It allows me to travel to places I've never been before and takes me back to my childhood. It stirs my emotions. It makes me FEEL. And, THAT is what I hope to accomplish with YOU as you listen to my songs.
