God Bless America !.......2005-10-27
I bought this for the Kate Smith tune, but soon realized, I had Much more ! Many songs I've heard all My Life at Parades and at Church. In this day and age We live in, this certainly lifts your spirits. I think this would be a very good basic "CD" for everyone to have in their collection, who is America minded !

Just when you thought the Oak Ridge Boys were all out of acorns, something whimsical and significant this way comes. These long standing kings of main street country have wrapped up a great little package of holiday merry making that will draw chuckles and occasionally dampen eyes. The title track explains why one guy savors his wife's Christmas cookies all year long (a fattening recipe for a happy marriage, in other words), and "Uncle Luther Make the Stuffin'" is a good old novelty tune about the family gathered a little too comofrtably for the holiday. Of course they flirt with the maudlin on a few tracks (how can you not at this most sentimental time of the year?). But even those tracks--especially "Ordinary Days" that sounds like a well crafted Jimmy Buffet tune written for a movie version for "Tuesdays with Morrie"--sound right at home next to the Christmas classics like "O Come All Ye Faithful" and "Jingle Bells," played here in hoedown time with dobros, guitars and fiddles a-blazing. In the familiar harmonies of the four Ridges, this album will be a welcome addition in their fans' collection. For everyone else, it will come as a mild and satisfying revelation. --Martin Keller

Customer Reviews:
A most Merry Christmas !.......2007-01-18
The Oak Ridge Boys really know how to warm the heart. Over 15 years ago I had one of their Christmas cassettes and made copies for our girls. Over time the tapes wore out and each year the girls would sing those songs from memory and recall how great that music was. Everyone thought back to those trips to the grandparents each year listening to those heartwarming tunes. I was able to recreate those memories through Amazon and obtain that "old" music on CD, AND got thier latest Christmas works this past Christmas, now life for our kids who are now grown up may enjoy those "new" memories for many more Christmases to come ! Thanks Amazon ! Larry G. (Georgia)
Great Christmas CD.......2007-01-18
This CD is fantastic. I love the Christmas Cookies song, and Uncle Luther Made the Stuffing is hilariously true. Of course, I am a long time fan of the Oaks, but they sound so good together even a newcomer would find themselves listening repeatedly.
Excellent CD.......2007-01-16
I heard Christmas Cookies on my XM radio, and wanted to buy a fun CD for the holidays. I fell in love with this CD ! I'm usually not a big country fan, but this is my all time favorite Christmas CD. It's the middle of January and I'm still playing it in my car. From the title song, Christmas Cookies to Uncle Luther made the stuffin..I love it !!!!
no so good.......2007-01-10
I really enjoyed The Oak Ridge Boys Christmas Album from a few years ago, but this one just did not measure up. I bought it for my mom as a Christmas present and she agrees with me
ANOTHER COOKIE CUTTER CHRISTMAS CD.......2006-09-25
This CD has a bunch of common Christmas tunes with a hillbilly theme to them. This album is just a re-make of some classics and a few that are not. I recommend classic Kenny Rogers, Anne Murray, or Alabama Christmas albums, in which you will find a truer classic Christmas sound, in my humble opinion. I really cannot recommend this one...a real let down for sure.

Well-Produced, Warm, and Inviting Contemporary Christian Christmas Album.......2006-12-31
It's been said before that Amy Grant's A Christmas Album (1983) is the Nat King Cole of contemporary Christian Christmas albums -- the one that you always bring out year after year. I think that was true a decade and more ago, but I wouldn't be surprised if Stephen Curtis Chapman's The Music of Christmas (1995) has taken over that spot now. The Music of Christmas is just as inviting, inspiring, contemporary, and well-produced as Grant's album -- and some might say more so.
This is no small feat given the fact that Christmas albums (like, in prior decades, live albums) seemingly are career requirements for successful contemporary Christian artists. Chapman started work on this project in 1993, just after completing his Great Adventure tour supporting the album of the same name that catapulted him into stardom. He abandoned work on it, however, in favor of releasing a live album that fall. He then came back to this album two years later, after the even bigger success of Heaven in the Real World.
And the singer on this album sounds like the Steven Curtis Chapman of the Heaven in the Real World period. Oh, you'll only find only one purely pop song here ("This Baby"); this is a Christmas album, after all. But this album is still the work of the Steven Curtis Chapman who had not yet been stretched vocally, lyrically, musically, and just plain all-around artistically, on the Brown Bannister contemporary Christian music production rack. (The beneficial results of that stretching would be seen on Chapman's next pop album, Signs of Life.)
Nonetheless, Bannister is here as co-producer on The Music of Christmas, his very first venture with Chapman. As he proved on Grant's classic, Bannister knows how to create a Christmas album that is both contemporary and traditional at the same time -- and how to make it lush, warm, and inviting. Partly this effect is achieved through photographs of cabins, snowy Tennessee mountains, and Chapman and his wife Mary Beth enjoying the winter rustic setting. The message is clear: come and join our family in the celebration of Christmas.
The album itself begins with Chapman alone on guitar singing "Hark, the Herald Angels Sing." But just in case you'd forget that this is a contemporary Christian album, we only get the first verse and chorus before a nice musical segue leads us into the title track. With singing children, a large choir, beautiful orchestrations, and an incredibly catchy chorus, it's no wonder that this song was successful on contemporary Christian radio.
From there, the album continues with a mixture of contemporary and traditional offerings. The old carols sport new arrangements that nevertheless mostly maintain a traditional feel. (The one exception here is a very modern arrangement of "Angels We Have Heard on High" with backing vocals from pop/rock band Chicago's Bill Champlin. Champlin also guested on Grant's first Christmas album and other Grant/Bannister pop collaborations.) The contemporary songs are pop in nature, but most of them honor the spirit of the season with some sense of reverence, awe, and even solemnity. There's even one instrumental medley of Christmas hymns that serves as an interlude. (Did Chapman and Bannister design the album with Christmas concert performances in mind?)
There are also an amazing number of potential singles on the album. Beyond the title track, "Christmas Is All in the Heart" (a duet with guest vocalist CeCe Winans), "Our God Is With Us" (co-written with Michael W. Smith), and "This Baby" are all Christmas single material. These songs easily could have provided Chapman with a year's worth of contemporary Christian music chart toppers. "Our God Is With Us" is particularly impressive, with Chapman surveying salvation history and Christ's incarnation for signs of hope.
The album does decrease in quality just a tad with its last two tracks. "Going Home for Christmas" tells the tale of a (fictional?) grandmother who died during one Christmas season. It's honest and emotional, but a little sappy and too pop country. (Chapman would tell a much more harrowing, and far better, story of a relative's departure on his next album's "What I Would Say.") "Precious Promise" concludes the album with a final telling of the Christmas story. It's not bad; unfortunately, neither is it memorable, since it sounds too much like a typical Chapman closing ballad.
These minor flaws aside, The Miracle of Christmas truly is an excellent album. You probably will not get any better than this among Christmas albums from popular contemporary Christian artists.
Excellent!.......2006-10-13
Steven Curtis Chapman proves why he is one of Christian music's most loved artists! My favorites on this CD are "Christmas is all in the Heart," "This Baby," and "O Come All Ye Faithful."
Chapman brings a heartfelt quality to classic songs I have listened to for years, and really keeps the focus on the true meaning of Christmas. Definitely a must buy!
OK, but not my cup of tea.......2006-01-18
Well produced, but not the style of Christmas music I was looking foor
A FANTASTIC HOLIDAY TREAT FROM SCC!.......2005-12-28
Steven Curtis Chapman's first Christmas album, "The Music of Christmas," is an instant classic. Chapman, who is the master of Contemporary Christian music, created a masterful recording full of joy and peace that are an instant part of the Christmas season. Each song has the power and emotion that one comes to expect from a SCC recording, which makes this a CD that belongs in every collection of great Christmas music.
Grade: A+

In Christmas music, all of the gifts that Steven Curtis Chapman have to share with the world conspire to

EVERYONE who loves music should own this album and celebrate.

RCA has repackaged and reshuffled Elvis Presley's Christmas canon yet again, coming up with the 25-track, chronologically sequenced collection pulled from 1957's stunning Elvis' Christmas Album and 1971's lesser Elvis Sings the Wonderful World of Christmas. Just like the U.S. postage stamps chronicling the svelte and the bloated Elvis, this set segments the singer's career into two parts. As a result, it has something for everyone, except perhaps Irving Berlin, who attempted to get Elvis's '57 recording of "White Christmas" banned from radio play, deeming it "vulgar and disrespectful." It was, which is part of why the drastically rearranged tune is so memorable, as the then-young singer masticated the contemporary classic, adding his idiosyncratic dynamics and vocal trills; he turned a white Christmas into white trash with splendid results. Equally irreverent and just as riveting is the King's gritty take on Leiber and Stoller's "Santa Claus Is Back in Town." Also tucked under the tree is his rollicking "Here Comes Santa Claus (Right Down Santa Claus Lane)" with the Jordanaires, and the wistful "I'll Be Home for Christmas," which cemented his reputation as pop's top dreamboat. And who can forget the song that changed the hue of Yuletide, "Blue Christmas"? --Jaan Uhelszki
Customer Reviews:
Both of Elvis orginal Christmas albums are here.......2005-12-29
This CD has all the songs that were released on Elvis' Christmas albums. Elvis recorded and released 20 Christmas songs during his career. All 20 Christmas songs are included here, plus 5 non-Christmas songs that were originally included on one of his Christmas albums.
Eight Christmas songs were included in his original 1957 Christmas album along with the 4 Gospel songs from the "Peace In The Valley" EP. His orginal Christmas album was repackaged and re-released in 1970 with the 4 Gospel songs being replaced by "If Every Day was Like Christmas" and the non-Christmas song "Mama Liked The Roses." In 1971 his final Christmas album was released "The Wonderful World of Christmas" which included 11 Christmas songs.
Elvis' performance on the songs from both versions of his Christmas album are excellent! Several of these recordings have become Christmas classics, still receiving significant radio airplay nearly 50 years after they were recorded! The songs and performances from "The Wonderful World of Christmas" are just not as strong. Elvis' voice seems to be straining on some of the songs and the material is just not as strong as the earlier recordings.
If you are looking for every song that was included on an Elvis Christmas album (including non-Christmas songs), this is the collection for you. However, if you are just wanting a comprehensive collection of Elvis Christmas music, you would do better to buy the "If Every Day Was Like Christmas" CD. It contains all 20 Christmas songs found here in addition to 4 alternate takes not available anywhere else.
Great CD.......2004-12-25
I purchased this CD a few weeks ago. I didn't play it much at first. I had other Christmas CD's that I enjoy to listen to each year. However, the last few days I couldn't get enough of listening to the Elvis' White Christmas CD. I will probably listen to it for a few weeks after Christmas, since I enjoy it so much.
One song that seems to strike a cord with me is "If I get Home on Christmas Day". The one line in the song about being half a world away reminds me of our troops abroad. I am surprised that this song has not gotten much, if any, air play due to this. I would have expected the radio stations to do some kind of mix of the song with holiday messages from their loved ones from abroad, as they have done with other songs over the past couple of years.
Bottom line, this CD is a must buy.
Very good Elvis Christmas collection.......2004-12-17
I've seen several people complain about this disc and I have to say, I don't understand it. This disc has all great songs, great sound, what more do you want? It does contain 4 of his '57 gospel songs and his '69 "Mama Liked The roses", which are non-Christmas, but I don't see the problem. They fit in well with the Christmas songs and all of his great Christmas songs are here. I highly recommend this disc.
If you love Elvis, you'll love this!.......2003-12-21
I've read the reviews for this cd and disagree w/them. I bought this 2 years ago, and love to listen to it every Christmas. Not sure whats NOT TO LIKE?!?! Its fun, Elvis has a great voice, and it has some great songs. Please give it a try. Buy it used if you like, but this is a wonderful cd.
I really enjoyed this CD.......2003-11-10
I have really enjoyed listening to this CD, although the new CD, Christmas Peace has come out. I still thought this CD was pretty good.

Elvis Never Disappoints.......2007-03-19
Christmas Peace is an excellent album that everyone who likes Elvis Presley should own. It combines one CD of Christmas songs with one CD of the Gospel songs that were so close to his heart. They are not only inspirational to listen to, they also show that Elvis was a deeply Christian man who was overwhelmed by his life circumstances. Would any of us do better? You cannot sing with the conviction he does on his Gospel selections and not believe it. The songs on this album capture both the sacred season of Christmas and the sacred theme of Gospel music.
Christmas Peace - Elvis.......2007-01-09
The CD is great! It's a must have for all Elvis fans! It contains Elvis' greatest Christmas songs and a CD that contains his inspirational songs.
WHERE is the Christmas Message from Elvis????.......2006-07-10
I'll give this cd a 5 star---------BUT WHERE IS THE CHRISTMAS MESSAGE FROM ELVIS-----WHICH I REALLY WANTED TO HEAR ?????? On the Christmas cd #8 states Christmas Message from Elvis on the discription list of Songs. I received this cd and there is no suchChristmas Message !! (VERY DISAPPOINTING) !!!! On the Cd Disc #1 (Christmas) if you look at the back where the list of songs are it does not say anything about this message being on the disc----Amazon has this WRONG on their list---Because it IS NOT THERE !!! BUT I would still get this CD---It's Still GREAT because it's ELVIS !!!! I LOVE ELVIS -----So I WANT ANYTHING HE SINGS !!! So get this cd, Elvis' Singing will NEVER let you be sorry ! I could never get threw the Holiday's or any other day without this CD ! This is a great christmas CD, don't let the fact that there is no Elvis message on this stop you from odering this If you want to have Peaceful Holidays you will love this cd. There is no way I could handle Christmas without Elvis! Dina
Christmas plus Gospel.......2005-12-29
Another repackaging of the 20 Christmas songs that Elvis recorded during his career. The twist on this package that makes it different from previous Christmas releases (such as "White Christmas" and "If Every Day Was Like Christmas") is the second CD containing 20 Gospel songs.
Elvis' performance of the earlier Christmas songs (the ones recorded in the 50's and 60's) are outstanding! Elvis is in top form for these songs and several of them have become Christmas classics still receiving radio play 50 years after they were recorded! The Christmas songs recorded in the 70's are good but not in the same class as the earlier recordings. His performances of the Gospel songs on the second CD are excellent!
If you are looking for a collection of Elvis Christmas music AND some of his mellow Gospel songs, this is the collection for you!
However, if you are just wanting Elvis Christmas songs, I would recommend that you save a few bucks and buy the "If Every Day Was Like Christmas" CD, which contains all 20 Christmas songs found here plus 4 alternate versions on a single CD, making it the most comprehensive Elvis Christmas collection available. If you are just looking for some Elvis Gospel music I would recommend you buy the Elvis "Ultimate Gospel" CD.
ANOTHER WINNER FROM ELVIS.......2004-02-15
Elvis has always been my favourite artist. This cd shows how wonderfully capable Elvis was at singing any style of music he chose. Great sound quality and packaging make this another winner from BMG .

Beautiful Chistian Christmans Music.......2003-12-21
One of the best of the various Christian artist ever produced. I have enjoyed this cd since original release in 1997. Especially the Ray Boltz rendition of "Still Her Little Child". It brings tears to the eyes.
Best Mix of Christmas Favorites.......2003-11-12
This album is a wonderful mix of favorite sacred pieces - some rocked up, some beautifully arranged with sweeping sentimental accompaniments. The first track "Joy to the World" is the most awesome rendition I've ever heard!
Wonderful! Makes you wish it were Christmas all year long........1998-11-14
This is a truly uplifting collection of Christian Christmas songs, both familiar and new. I especially liked "O Come, O Come, Emmauel" by Steven Curtis Chapman, and "All Is Well Tonight" by CeCe Winans. I heartily recommend this recording!

With contributions from Uillean piper Liam O'Flynn, Dire Straits guitarist Mark Knopfler, former Skara Brea singer Maighread Ní Dhomhnaill, harpist Patrick Cassidy, and country singer Ricky Skaggs, the fourth in Windham Hill's Celtic Christmas sampler series is a varied and somewhat austere collection of winter ballads and yuletide airs. Guitarist William Coulter turns in a lovely arrangement of J. Scott Skinner's "Cradle Song," while harp and mandolin player Lisa Lynne, backed with bouzouki and double-bass, performs the two-beat "Morning Star." W.G. Snuffy Walden's lyrical "St. Stephen's Green," with added guitar by Dean Parks, sums up the album's moody yuletide sentiment. A Christmas to reflect and relax. --James Rotondi
Customer Reviews:
Scaggs is fine, get over it!.......2006-12-12
Vol 4 is great and covers the DIVERSITY of celtic tunes. There's an obvious link to these tunes and the last track and, admittedly Windham Hills didn't do it as gracefully as the majority of folks would wish but plz folks, get over it. I enjoy reading the feedback of others because I generally learn much - I agree and thank the reviewer who pointed out 'Derdriu' - great piece of music. Glad I got 'Light of the Stable' (by Emmylou Harris) in the same shipment with this one; perfect bookend piece.
If anyone out there hasn't heard Vol I, II and III you really should but you might OD on traisping through the highlands, that's why I like Ricky.
Soul-lifting, but not your average Christmas album.......2005-12-18
This is Nightnoise at its best, although but one track bears the group's name. However it has nothing to do with standard Yuletide albums- if by that you mean the umpteenth rendition of "God Rest Ye" or "Hark, the Herald Angels Sing".
It is pervaded by a Northern Christmas atmosphere that is unmistakeable, and brings to mind the snow-covered flatlands kindled with the small distant lights that go with the image.
(Although to a Mediterranean Roman Catholic as myself, it is quite obvious that Jesus Christ was born on a cool but definitely not snow-ridden night in Palestine)
I totally disagree with previous reviews on the last two tracks. "Kitty Magennis" is a tune by Turlough O'Carolan that has nothing to do with Christmas but in this setting by Patrick Cassidy acquires a certain spirit that makes it fit for the context. And "Christmas Time's A-Comin'" is a beautifully humorous contrast with the rest of the album.
Thoroughly enjoyable, in our family it is one of the two pillars of our Christmas season, together with another album which I highly recommend: Tuck Andress's "Hymns, Carols and Songs about Snow".
Down with "Kitty" and "Ricky"!.......2005-12-12
I am in accord with most of the previous reviewers in that I also feel that "Kitty Magennis" and "Christmas Time's a' Comin'"
are the "wild cards" popping out of the pack and do NOT belong on this CD! I greatly enjoy Maire Breatnach's "Derdriu," which is almost Appalachian-sounding in my opinion. My favorite cut is the poignant "December Rain" by Brian Dunning and Jeff Johnson.
Skagged!.......2002-09-13
I greatly enjoyed this CD except for the last two cuts, "Kitty Magennis" and "Christmas Time's A'Comin'."
"Kitty Magennis" seemed too bland and didn't have anything to recommend it. The presence of the Ricky Skaggs song felt like an attempt to make the CD more "Christmassy." Its inclusion in the collection felt like an afterthought or a "throwaway" cut.
My wedding music.......2001-03-05
I, like so may others, picked this CD up at Christmas time 3 years ago. I love it so much, that I am using it for my wedding ceremony to be held outside in July if that tells you anything. PS- All brides looking for Celtic renditions of "Here Comes the Bride", forget it... it is not out there!

Customer Reviews:
Unquestionably my favorite Christmas album.......2006-12-01
Even fourteen years after its release, this compilation of Christmas songs has a timeless upbeat feeling to it that never gets old. Every year I find myself going back to this album for my favorite Christmas music.
It starts with timeless carols. We have sung these songs every year for hundreds of years at every Christmas because they are truly great music.
I like my music upbeat and with a bit of an edge, and these versions deliver. Little Drummer Boy, O Come, O Come, Emmanuel, Jingle Bell Rock, and Angels We Have Heard on High are all classic tunes with a modern, rock edge on them, which increases their power dramatically.
Other tracks are almost tearjerkers for me. These artists, as Christians, take the meaning of the songs seriously, and that feeling comes across in their performance. This is evident in Little Drummer Boy (yes, again), What Child Is This?, O Come, O Come, Emmanuel (yes, again), O Holy Night, Away in a Manger, and Angels We Have Heard on High. Some are even tearjerkers for me fourteen years later.
Even the original track "Home for the Holidays" is, for me, an instant classic, and Steve Taylor's irreverent but funny Winter Wonderland is a humorous break halfway through.
A true classic album.
Great blend of christmas cheer!.......2002-09-22
This album has so many genres of music in it it's hard to believe it is a Christmas album. There is rock with Whiteheart's version of "Little Drummer Boy" (which is an AWESOME version), R&B with Tim Miner's "The First Noel", and even Tejano with Steve Taylor's "Winter Wonderland", which features a verse in Spanish! This is a fun filled album filled with the best of Sparrow artists of the 80's. I recommend to all!

great dialogue and songs.......2006-05-15
I have ALL of J. Cash's Christmas albums, as well as many, many others. I like this one especially because it DOES have dialogue and gives listeners who are truly big fans of his a better insight to him and his family/friends.
Too Much Talk, Not Enough Music.......2006-02-04
I love Cash and his songs on this CD are good, but there is way too much dialogue between the songs. I bought this CD so I could listen to Music, not the singers/band talking back and forth about what christmas is/was to them.

They Changed The Lineup.......2007-05-06
I have a cassete of this copyrighted 1990 that has the original lineup of artists (including Jim Nabors, Mitch Miller, etc). It was released by CBS Special Products: catalog number BT 14309.
Not as good as the original 1977 Release of this album.......2003-11-29
This album was originally released on LP & Cassette (& possibly 8 Track Tape) in 1977, with a different cover. When Sony re-issued it, they dumped some of the artists such as Jim Nabors, Mitch Miller & The Gang, and Anita Bryant, and replaced their songs with the same songs by different artists. I give the original 1977 version 5 stars out of a possible 5, but this newer version gets only 1 star, and it doesn't even deserve that! Stick to the original, if you can find it!
