About the Artist
Chris Yurchuck has been writing & performing pop Americana and rock songs for the last six years. He has signed licensing agreements with Premier Tracks Music Library and 5 Alarm Music to promote his catalog to film & TV. You can hear his music in the upcoming DVD release of Felicity (4th Season) as well as at Regal Cinemas nationwide this winter (courtesy of 5 Alarm Music). His new CD, Coming Attractions, was produced & engineered by Jamie Siegel (Lauryn Hill, Carlos Santana, Del Amitri).

"Chris Yurchuck finds the balance that seems so elusive for the majority of songwriters: he has a contemporary flair about him but also has deeper roots in more time-tested music. While one hears the influence of acoustic-based rock bands such as Dave Matthews and the Jayhawks, sprinkles of Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan & Tom Waits can also be felt. This CD truly sounds as good as anything that's out there. I hope we hear more from Chris, because we need him." - Musesmuse.com

4 out of 5 stars That's right, he's not just a great guitar player.......2000-10-14

If most of America hasn't heard of Adrian Belew, they've certainly heard his playing with Paul Simon, David Bowie, Nine Inch Nails, Talking Heads, et. al. This CD allows the world to see what a talented singer, songwriter, arranger and producer Adrian Belew is. Hearing the pop mastery of 'Valley Drive' gives one the feeling that Belew could have easily sold himself as a genius popsmith all these years, but he decided to make music for himself as well as us. Witnessed by the iconoclastic performers who have hand picked him through the years (Zappa, Robert Fripp, etc. etc.), we can truly say that he's a true original.

4 out of 5 stars Belew Your Mind........2000-04-29

Adrian Belew is still not a household name, but in some music circles he is one of the most exciting and respected guitarists of his day. He has worked with David Bowie, Talking Heads, Paul Simon, Mike Oldfield, Nine Inch Nails and many others. He's made solo albums since 1981's "The Lone Rhino". He's worked as a member of King Crimson and The Bears. Yet, mention his name and most people will look at you with a perplexed brow and say, "Never heard of him." On his latest outing, "Coming Attractions", Belew compiles new, old and redone songs for our listening pleasure. This is good since he hasn't released anything in America since his 1998 compilation "Salad Days". Here we find Belew writing, singing and playing songs he does best like "Inner Man", "Predator Feast" and "117 Valley Drive." Also included are some live recordings of "Inner Revolution" and "Time Waits". An interesting demo of King Crimson's 1995 song "People" is included. All in all, Belew has put together a fairly smooth and entertaining compilation of songs here. While not as great as 1989's "Mr. Music Head" or 1992's "Inner Revolution" or even 1990's "Young Lions", "Coming Attractions" is by no means unworthy. If you like experimental guitar with a David Byrne sounding voice and clever and insightful lyrics, Adrian Belew might interest you. Recommended for Belew fans and non-fans alike.

5 out of 5 stars Inner Revelations.......2000-03-27

Belew offers a preview/review of some seriously innovative pop tunes and a few unusual and pleasing guitar pieces. What is particularily outstanding about this record is that it is a true anti-greatist hits compilation. It a rare artist indeed that has the courage to give us such a personal look at his work. This CD is top notch start to finish. high lights- live cuts from Argentina/House of Cards.

Writing music for movie trailers can be an anonymous and thankless job. In usually two minutes or less, musicians must convey enough to seduce potential ticket buyers. For all that labor, they are rarely if ever part of the "official" movie score, which is often finished after the trailer music has orchestrated the advertising campaign. Since the mid 1980s, John Beal has been acclaimed as the world's foremost theatrical and television trailer composer. This two-disc collection of 69 musical cues captures his best moments, with textures that range from synthesizer symphonettes to electronic trance compositions to traditional orchestrations for pitching movies like Heathers, Police Academy, and I Know What You Did Last Summer. Though Beal dominates the roster, there are also appearances by Jerry Goldsmith and Tangerine Dream. --Joseph Lanza

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Real Music FromTrailers, Not Movie Themes!.......2005-04-25

This is a very unique and special CD set.

This is a fascinating award-winning collection of music from the trailers which sell movies. It was an Amazon top-rated soundtrack gift for the holiday season of 1998, and listed as one of Amazon's top-selling soundtrack cds of summer, fall and winter 1998. It won the Film Music Critics Jury Award, The Golden Score award, Scorelogue Readers' Choice award, Moviescore's Most Entertaining Composer Compilation and many more.

Unfortunately, Daniel A. Pulliam (Acworth, GA United States)is not accurate in his statements.

There is no pretense that it is the film scores. While he does have numerous hit television series and many films to his credit, that is not what John Beal does on this CD. This very impressive 2-CD collection gives an overview of an incredible range of musical styles required to sell movies during the 80's and 90's and the liner notes give additional information and confirmation attesting to his talent.

Contrary to Mr. Pulliam's review, John Beal is indeed the composer of all of these recordings for theatrical film trailers and is one of Hollywood's most famous trailer composers. Every studio in Hollywood calls on him to help sell their biggest films. According to his numerous web sites, he's done over 2,000 movie advertising projects and his works include thirty of the top-grossing films of all time. Go to any other movie music site and you'll see confirmation.

Fact: You will not hear the theme from "Police Academy," or the theme from any other movie score. This is an amazing compilation of music from the trailers, not the film scores. It could not be more clearly stated on the front, back and inside liner notes.

Fact: Where there is an actual film title attached to the track, these are exactly as used in the trailer. Where additional changes were made to the music as the trailer went to final release or if they used a different version, they carefully did not include the film title, only hinting at the movie trailer it was written for. This is quite clear.

We may like or dislike the quality of the compositions or recordings without argument. I liked most of these tracks. Some left me disinterested. My personal rating is 5 stars because no one has ever done such a compilation and because it was packaged and presented so well. Two collector CDs packed with unique film music for the price of one. Excellent notes. Excellent sound quality. Not a bad deal.

But to state that the leading composer of trailer music didn't write the movie trailers he's presenting here is clearly inappropriate. It is disappointing to see such misleading comments are allowed to be posted.

For collectors, this is a must-have. For people looking for the current J-Lo "soundtrack" it's probably not!

2 out of 5 stars Warning: This Is NOT Original Trailer Music!.......2004-05-22

Hi there. I bought this for a few specific cues. Mainly, I wanted the Ghost Trailer music, as the original trailer (heavily) used elements from Hans Zimmer's out of print Black Rain score (which I love). I loved watching the Ghost trailer for the music at the end alone, which I thought was incredible. This cue is similar to the trailer, but NOT the same. TRUST me on this. It is NOT the music from the trailer. I guess I just felt lied to after that. I mean, what would you expect to hear on the track "Academy March" from Police Academy? The Police Academy theme song, right? Wrong. Just some march that sounds nothing like it. Track after track of that kid of letdown. I am really disappointed in this (especially since I THOUGHT it would be really cool when everyone else told me they thought it sounded stupid). This collection, rather than being from an artist who emulates other scores, seems like it's from an artist who emulates people who emulate scores, if that makes any sense. Just to give you an idea, I was DYING to get this cd (I actually turned bargain bins inside out at Media Play before just ordering it online), and now I wish I had the $6.50 back that I paid for it. :-(

5 out of 5 stars INCREDIBLE TALENT.......1999-09-11

I just bought the new album EVERGREEN: MUSIC FROM THE FILMS OF BARBRA STREISAND and discovered John Beal, so I searched for some of his other work and found him performing an exquisite suite from X-Files plus a dance mix of La Femme Nikita on THE SNOW FILES and powerful takes on Men In Black and Predator on WATCH THE SKIES, then I discovered him on HEART OF THE OCEAN doing three completely different style tracks and now - FINALLY - I HAVE FOUND HIM PERFORMING HIS OWN COMPOSITIONS. This guy is an amazingly versatile artist. I LOVE THIS 2 CD SET. For the price, you will not find a more interesting collection of film oriented music. I highly recommend this album to anyone who likes the variety and excitement of film previews.

5 out of 5 stars BEST OF ARTIST!!.......1999-05-23

I've heard this guy on other compilation albums, but this album is the the best I've found of his work. Every possible style of music is here, from pretty and heroic orchestra to the most contemporary house, industrial, world beat and electronic. He has the most range of any of the composers whose work I collect. He should be doing full movie scores, not just movie previews. I hope Hollywood wakes up and realizes he is right under their nose, promoting their own films!!

5 out of 5 stars Truly Unique.......1999-05-16

"In recent years, the difficult art of composing music for trailers has been getting more and more recognition and the master in the field is undoubtedly John Beal, who has written music for more than 500 trailers, which includes campaigns for an amazing amount of big box office successes...This is a truly unique album - a very, very entertaining listening experience. Skillfully produced, the album constantly shifts in mood and genre, action is followed by comedy, followed by horror, followed by epic adventure. It's all done with a twinkle in the eye with a lot of humurously entitled cues... It's amazing to notice John Beal's eclectism, there is virtually no musical genre he doesn't control - there is jazz, synthesizer minimalism, heavy metal, atonal orchestral writing, melodic romanticism - everything! A lot of the cues on this album have an instant originality. I am particularly enthusiastic about the horror trailers included: DEADLY BLESSING, including the kind of frantic choral writing which makes me sweat abundantly, and DISTURBING BEHAVIOUR, with a great, energetic orchestral finale. I can't wait to get the chance to hear John Beal's original scores for horror films THE FUNHOUSE and TERROR IN THE AISLES, soon to be available on two promo CDs. All in all, COMING SOON! THE JOHN BEAL TRAILER PROJECT is a very unusual album with a lot of thoroughly fun listening experiences. Be aware of the fact that this isn't an ordinary film music album and you'll have more than two hours of energetic music entertainment which pushes a lot of buttons."

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Three gems.......2003-09-17

The Coming Attractions Q-single by bait-oven features three solid songs by the band comprised of Patrick Bamburak on vocals, guitars, bass, and keyboards, and Joe Gutsick on drums and percussion. bait-oven's recorded work covers all styles of music from punk to pop to country to rock. That same musical variety is jammed into this three song disc released in the summer of 2001.

The first song, "Big Top World," is a piano-based track set against a metronomic drum pattern that creates a dynamic tension throughout the song. "Big Top World" is both melodic and dramatic with rich lyrics painting images in deep colors. The middle song in this three song set is "Inherit the Earth". This song is a mid-tempo acoustic track that features a lead-guitar part by Patrick that can only be described as "cold falling water". When you hear this song, you'll know what I mean. "I Cherish You," which completes the set, is a conventional rock track at first glance, but with a second look, the lyrics pull the song into deeper waters.

Coming Attractions is alot of music presented in a neat, compact package. By virtue of its title, the disc is a little preview by bait-oven of what we can expect from the band in the future. Like any good preview, it tempts the listener to come back for more.
