Album Description
Imagination Movers combine pop, hip-hop, rock and world music with educational themes for kids and their parents. The Movers sing about healthy eating, separation anxiety, sibling rivalry and other topics that relate to being a little kid, but the group's musical style has a decidedly grownup groove. Think Mr.. Rogers meets the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Regardless of how you describe it, Movers music is catchy stuff that parents and children will want to listen to over and over again!
The Movers' new disc, "Calling All Movers," features the band's trademark blend of kid-friendly themes and sophisticated rock and hip-hop music. "Please and Thank You" is a Caribbean-touched homage to every parent's three favorite words. The call-and-response jam "What's in the Fridge" is evidence of the Movers' continued obsession with snack food. And "First Day of School" is a sentimental look at a milestone from a child's point of view. These and 12 other new Movers tunes will be favorites in family CD players for years to come.

The Movers Rock!.......2007-03-13
My 2-year-old loves these guys! Ever since the first time she saw them on Playhouse Disney, they have been her favorite. And now they're mine! All of their songs are loaded with good messages and I love all the musical influences. Each song is different and great in its own way. I just cannot say enough good things about the Movers, and especially this album. Check out "Looking Out the Window" (one of my favorites) and "First Day of School" (my daughter's favorite, along with "I Want My Mommy" from "Good Ideas"). We also bought the Movers' "Good Ideas" album and love that as well (although personally, I prefer this one!). :-)
Fun for Parents, too!.......2007-02-18
This music is GREAT. We are from New Orleans, but unfortunately never attended an Imagination Movers performance! I am kicking myself now. My sons, ages 4 and 2, request this music every time we get in the car. And I enjoy listening and singing along, too. It's like good adult music with kid lyrics. Can't beat it! Thanks you guys.
Think outside the box!.......2005-11-16
This guys are great! Kids love them! Parents can tune out the lyrics and the music will take you back to your college days! I've dropped my kids off at school and continued to listen without them in the car! Baton Rouge, LA
I got it - You get it!.......2004-11-24
We've had Good Ideas for a while and just bought Calling All Movers. Wonderful! Simply wonderful! My kids love the Fridge song and the Recipe song and I like Please and Thank you. Do youself a favor and buy this for your kids because this is real kids music - you'll get hooked too:)
Wow, a pleasant surprize!.......2004-07-31
My son got this as a gift for his 5th birthday. I heard it in the background one afternoon and walked to his room to see what it was. I was shocked when I listened to to lyrics and realized it was music for him. I sat an listened and watched him dance around. Remarkable music. Two thumbs up. One kids size and one grown up. Now I need to get their other CD.

Of the three simultaneous releases that Michelle Shocked bills as her latest trilogy, Don't Ask Don't Tell is the most seriously ambitious and eclectic, so much so that she might have considered combining the strongest tracks from its companions with the best here to make a single powerhouse release. It's also the least conceptually focused, though the centerpiece of a kiss-off song, "Hardly Gonna Miss Him," suggests a theme of love gone bad, reinforced by titles such as "Elaborate Sabotage," "Fools Like Us," "Evacuation Route," and "Goodbye." Whatever Shocked has lost with the end of a relationship, the song cycle benefits from a creative emancipation. Like a musical chameleon as she adopts various vocal styles, she sounds willing to try anything--from the jazzy sophistication of "Early Morning Saturday" to the hipster spoken-word wisdom of "How You Play the Game" to the rollicking New Orleans spirit of "Don't Tell." Most atmospherically audacious is "Don't Ask," which sounds like a cross between Dr. John in his Night Tripper days and Uncle Remus. Don't miss the unlisted bonus track, which ends Shocked's most diverse collection to date in an explosion of punk-rock fury. --Don McLeese

...Don't Remember.......2007-01-28
Well, the music here is fine. But largely this collection sounds uninspired. Whereas previous albums of hers had me glued to the lyrics and re-listening every chance I got, I have to remind myself to listen to this one. Not that it is awful. It just doesn't go anywhere. She sounds bored, so I guess I'm bored too. I know what she's capable of, so I miss the clever lyrics and brassy sound of CAPTAIN SWING, the passionate and original voice of SHORT SHARP SHOCKED, or the musicianship of ARKANSAS TRAVELER.
I still give this one 3 stars, based on her previous track record and the simple fact that this isn't really a bad album, especially when compared to her peers. Also, she retains a "one of a kind" quality that some singer/songwriters never come close to achieving.
Don't get me started on the *genius* who designed the packaging.
Terrific collection of songs.......2006-09-20
I don't what I like more: the cover or the music. Mind you, the cover is a hoot. I still laugh every time I reda the liner notes. Michelle has a career as a comedy writer if this song thing don't work out.
But the song thing is superb. Not as idio-syncratic as you might expect, but still filled with wry observations, terrific melodies and finely crafted instrumentation: as you would expect, everything is perfectly suited to each tune.
As angry as you can get with W, God bless MS for bringing a much needed smile. Imagine what havoc would be wreaked if she came home as Mary Cheney's new girlfriend? I'd pay hard money to go to that Thanksgiving Dinner.
So, enjoy this CD, it's great craic start to finish, and even if yer tone deaf, you'll find yourself laughing out loud at the humour.

A Return to Her Peak of Perfection.......2005-08-31
If you are looking for an album with a homogenous theme that will wrap you in its "sameness", giving you a comfortable place to retreat to... this is NOT the album you want. All tracks are extremely well performed, recorded and produced. However, each track could have been done by a different artist. While I doubt it was intended, the first track has somewaht "breathy", yet full vocals akin to early Maria Muldaur. The next track reminds me of several Patty Smith tracks in its direct vocal style, texture and delivery. The third track uses wistful talking/singing to present a story laced with often made-up words delivered in a Laurie Anderson-like style. The list goes on, however, there is no doubt that each of the tracks is genuinely Michelle Shocked. At times playful, always intelligent lyrics are enveloped with and supported by excellent musicianship. Her best work since Arkansas Traveller, her prior "peak of polish & perfection". Definitely worth the "price of admission."
EXCEPTIONAL EFFORT / A TRUE WORK OF ART / BRAVO.......2005-06-23
This CD is composed of strong, diverse and intelligent songs that come straight from the artists heart. The music explores a variety of musical genres from rock, soul, folk, to jazz all with her unique signature fusion of styles. The listener is engaged from the outset with a full range of emotions from empathy to humor. It reminds me of the Kinks at their best in the 80's. Each song has a unique flavor and after the CD is over you have no difficulty remembering the tunes. You only are disappointed it has come to an end. If you have a brain... you should not be bored or untouched by this collection.
The sound quality is excellent. The arrangements are done with care and tenderness. The accompanying musicians and vocalists are used wonderfully and they clearly have a stong connection to the project.
I will not bore you with a song by song description. Anyone who has ever appreciated Michelle Shocked in the past will find their own favorites... which will likely change over time with your mood and circumstances.

Songs and lyrics with subtle impact.......2005-03-10
This CD combines the melodic originality of Stahl's music with the creative lyrics of Harriet Reisen to provide a modern day classic. With songs ranging from the humorous "Chocolate is It" to the nostalgic "Jersey Shore" this album will appeal to both baby boomers and their children.

Great Follow Up.......2004-04-28
Poignant, difficult, funny, insightful, painful, brutally introspective - ALL things Rick Reynolds does so well. Not everyone will "get it" wondering why a 'comedy' album has elements of such tough reality - but no one can do this as sharply as Reynolds. You will find yourself laughing out loud and wincing with the complete realization he HAS exposed many truths of all our collective, messy thoughts, failures, successes, desires, pettiness and introspection about enigma that is life.
After listening to it the first time, listen again and you will hear something new.
Not nearly as engaging as his first album........1999-06-06
I stumbled upon Rick Reynolds back around 1990 when I bought (without knowing his material) his first album, "Only the Truth is Funny." That album, which is the recording of his long-running show, is arguably one of the ten best comedy albums of all-time (Woody Allen's "Stand-Up Comic" being #1, followed by the likes of George Carlin, Mel Brooks, Bob Newhart, and Allen King). "Only the Truth," sadly, is now out of print. But after hearing it, "All Grown Up" simply falls flat. I got the impression that the things that made Reynolds the malcontent he was in the first album (the things that likely inclined him towards comedy in the first place) were dealt with so eloquently, so unforgettably, in the first album, that his dealings here were as uninspiring to him as they were to me. Better off to find "Only the truth is Funny." That's a comedy gem. This is mediocre and, at times, overbearing.
Comedian Rick Reynolds tries to make sense of his life..........1998-08-24
...and what better place to do it than in public? This monolog is both hysterically funny and disturbing. Reynolds takes a look at himself, "warts and all", as they say. What he finds is a story that is relevant to all of us. If you find this kind of exercise whiney and self-indulgent, then you probably won't like this either. But if you like this kind of self-exploration, this is riveting.
