About the Artist
Tamalyn is a California native whose soul was born in Nashville. As a child she would try to emulate the greats such as Conway Twitty, George Jones and Tammy Wynette. THe thought of persuing a music careerwas inconceivable when Tamalyn had to support herself at 17. Nineteen years later she befriended Gene Viglione a record producer who could'nt believe what he heard. This album, entitled "Unbroken" is a collaboration of talent by some of Nashville's most respected musicians including: songwriter Jimmy Jackson, producer, pianist Gary Smith, world famos pedal steel perfomer John Hughey,Brent MAson on guitar and Joe Spivey on fiddle.
Product Description

In an age when the old-timey soundtrack to O Brother, Where Art Thou? sells 5 million copies, it's hard to imagine how revolutionary Will the Circle Be Unbroken seemed upon its release 30 years ago. The triple album (now rereleased as a two-CD set) paired many of Nashville's venerable country and bluegrass performers (Roy Acuff, Mother Maybelle Carter, Earl Scruggs, Doc Watson, Merle Travis, Jimmy Martin, Vassar Clements) with the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, or as Acuff called them, "a bunch of long-haired West Coast boys." The idea seemed nearly as foreign as Martians setting down in Tennessee, but the Dirt Band were Colorado hippies steeped in the genre, so there was no disputing the authenticity of the music, or its earthy appeal. Aside from the sheer joy of the performances (listen to Jimmy Martin's "whoop" on "Sunny Side of the Mountain"), there's great fun in hearing Roy Acuff give the boys a lesson in doing a song right the first time (and using the word hell before launching into a religious number). And Mother Maybelle wafts through like a benevolent ghost, or at least a patron saint. One caveat: The boast of four previously unreleased tracks is balderdash, since three are really between-track conversations and rehearsals, and only "Foggy Mountain Breakdown" qualifies as a real song. But that's nitpicking. Buy it. Love it. Wallow in it. O brother, that's country music! --Alanna Nash

all time classic.......2007-06-11
was the first record on blugrass I heard, is still an all time classic
I don't know, mate..........2007-05-29
Everyone seems to love this record, and I can see why. It's relaxed, old-tyme bluegrass from some of the masters, both (then) young and old. I don't want to come down too critically on this album, as it is quite solid, but - to my ears - that's the problem. It's solid without being inspirational.
Be honest- if you weren't familiar with the cast, it would just be another bluegrass album, no? It's just a hodgepodge of famous names, and very rarely do these all-star casts ever prove inspirational. Everyone seems to be enjoying everyone else's company, perhaps sipping a drink or two, and singing a few tunes here and there. Even Doc Watson sounds a little flat, save for "Black Mountain Rag." That should tell you something.
If you want FANTASTIC bluegrass, save your money. Buy a Kentucky Colonels or a Muleskinner record. Heck, buy an original album by any of these artists that have fire, inspiration, and are truly sensational.
A piece of history.......2007-05-16
I first purchased this album on in 1974 or there about. I recently re-purchased it on CD. It is as good today as it was then, maybe better. The music is breathtaking in it's straight forward simplicity and unadorned honesty. This is one if those albums that just happened at the right place and time. Sadly, so many of the folks on the album are no longer with us. This should be required listening for all the "young country" stars of today. Country music was never better than this.
Great Album, Great CD, Great Amazon!.......2007-02-21
Had been searching for this since hearing the LP in my youth. Just as good as I remembered. Love the additional tracks and great instrumentals. Great service from Amazon all the way to NZ.
Great old country music.......2007-02-11
I own the original LP and could no longer play it because I have gone to only CD's. I had been looking for the CD and was very happy to finally find it. This is a great classic BlueGrass album. I just love this music. If you love Bluegrass you need this album, it's a must have.

John Williams' lovely and moving score for the sixth Star Wars film brings thirty years of collaborating on George Lucas' beyond-popular intergalactic franchise to a close. (Is this really the end of Star Wars? Can't Lucas and Williams work together on a prequel to these prequels? Let us hope so, and that Jar Jar Binks is nowhere near it.) As this music accompanies the most exciting Star Wars film in many a moon, the soundtrack itself is more fun, more evil, more nasty and bumpy. Many of the heroic, anthemic themes woven throughout Episode Three: Revenge of the Sith will necessarily be familiar to any fan of the series, from the "Imperial March" to the main theme. It's remarkable how stirring the latter can be, no matter how many times you've heard it, and even for those who do not have all their money invested in S.W. memorabilia. There is a lot of new music here, and the lush, extensive range of both Williams and the London Symphony Orchestra is on display, most notably in the menacing, percolating "General Grievous" and the rousing "New Hope" end theme. --Mike McGonigal

Star Wars: A Musical Journey (2005) (V).......2007-06-21
product: Star Wars: A Musical Journey (2005) (V), included as bonus disc in Episode III soundtrack.
The bonus dvd with this soundtrack was the reason I purchased. I enjoy film soundtracks, and science fiction, but this dvd was a real highlight for me. I got the soundtrack cd out of the local library. The cd was missing from the case, but I found this wonderful dvd instead that I went out to purchase later.
With optional segments of dialog from Ian McDiarmid, this film is a stunning visual and musical overview of the full epic story of episodes I-VI of Star Wars. For those of us who felt that eps. IV-VI fell short of our expectations, this film presents them well as parts of the whole story. The Musical Journey also stands as a summary of the entire SW opus for someone who is not familiar with the Star Wars characters and plot. Highly recommended.

Not one of his bests, but very close.......2007-05-21
The Episode III soundtrack is very good. Not great, but very, very good. You can tell that Williams is getting old, but he still manages to weave together a very memorable score.
My favorite tracks are "Battle of the Heroes," "Anakin's Betrayal," Palpatine's teachings, "Anakin vs. Obi-Wan," and the "Immolation Scene."
The others are very good as well, but these are especially nice. "Battle of the Heroes" is Dual of the Fates for Revenge of the Sith. "Anakin's Betrayal" is a very sad track that is, in my opinion, one of William's most powerful pieces. "Palpatine's Teachings" is really, really neat. It's very dark and moody, a perfect piece for the evil emperor. The only weird thing is the end. "Anakin vs. Obi-Wan" is the action piece that plays during the battles of Anakin and Obi-Wan, and Yoda and the Emperor. Finally, "The Immolation Scene" is another sad piece, even more so than "Anakin's Betrayal."
Although I really like this CD, there are some things that are missing (as usual). First, the whole sequence where the droids are looking for Obi-Wan after he was shot. You see Obi-Wan in his ship with Senator Organa on the Hologram (or whatever it is), and Obi-Wan says that his clones turned on him. That was some pretty awesome music that OF COURSE was left out of the CD. Then there was Dual of the Fates in the movie, but completely absent from the CD. And probably the most annoying was that whole piece of music before Obi-Wan and Anakin fight. It was so touching and sad and I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY LEFT IT OUT! Absolutely amazing. Also, did anyone notice that some little bits were cut out? For example, in Anakin vs. Obi Wan, they cut out about a second or two of choir. What?! What the heck is with that? It's when Anakin is running on the long thing and jumps on the droid on the lava. Also, there was some pretty cool drumming when you see Yoda and the Emperor fighting, and you can see the whole stadium (the big room). There's also drumming in "Enter Lord Vader" that is muted in the soundtrack.
Oh well...if I'm going to collect movie scores, I'm going to have to get used to the fact that in almost all cases there's not going to be every bit of music. I've experienced this in both Pirates of the Caribbean, Jurassic Park I (there was very little left out on this score), and almost everything else. At the moment, I'm just waiting for the 22nd, for the Pirates of the Caribbean 3 soundtrack. It's gonna be amazing.

John Williams' finest work.......2007-04-20
There is little more I can say that hasn't already been said about the soundtrack to Episode 3, especially what Amazon contributor Dan Mohr wrote in his review of the soundtrack on 2/2/2006. His review captured almost all the thoughts, feelings, and emotions I had when I first listened to the soundtrack, and was, IMO, the best review of John Williams' greatest masterpiece.
Having said that, I will say that few soundtracks have ever so perfectly captured the underlying emotional currents of their respective movie; in the case of ROTS, the contemporaneous tragedies of Anakin's fall to the Dark Side, the extermination of the Jedi, and the rise of the oppressive Empire. The listener is confronted with the depth and totality of the evil that has beset the entire galaxy to a degree that the film could not reach in only 2 hours.
Bravo, Dan Mohr, and BRAVO John Williams!
A Great Conclusion to the Prequel Trilogy.......2007-04-07
This is a great work of art. I rank it 4th among Star Wars soundtracks after A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back and The Phantom Menace. I had a hard deciding which I thought was better, The Phantom Meance or Revenge of the Sith, but I decided that The Phantom Menace lays the foundation for so much that is in this soundtrack and is thus the more masterful work. But that doesn't mean that this score still isn't great. Every piece is a thrill to listen to and pace never lets up. "Battle of the Hereos" is an amazing piece and the rendition of the "Funeral Theme" from Episoded I captures the film's tragety magnificently. Also I do not think John Williams could have portrayed the Jedi's extinction more perfectly than he did in "Anakin's Betrayal". This is without a doubt the best score of 2005 and one of the best of the decade.
Williams is slumming it.......2007-04-01
Williams's score for Revenge of the Sith is almost entirely overbearing, lacking any emotional subtlety. The music is overcomplicated and even a bit confusing, especially in the tracks that correspond to action sequences in the movie. His overuse of choral tracks and vocals is too bombastic and irritating to be listened to without the explosions and laser blasts of the soundtrack to soften them. (Yes, this music is actually softened by the sounds of warfare.) Worst of all, much of the music has simply been lifted from earlier scores. At times his self-imitation was so blatant that I actually wondered whether the editor who had complied this score had made a mistake and I was listening to The Empire Strikes Back or A New Hope. Also suffers from not including the entire score, in some cases cutting out musical segues in obvious and awkward ways.

The original Will the Circle Be Unbroken is undoubtedly a landmark country-music recording. A peace offering between rock-reared longhairs and rock-ribbed Nashville patriarchs (and one matriarch, Mother Maybelle Carter), it exposed generations of upstart pickers and singers to old-time country music and its impact is felt to this day. The organizers of the 1971 sessions that led to the initial three-LP set, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, have produced two sequels, the first in 1989 and the most recent in 2002. This six-disc collection (including an all-star concert DVD) pulls together all three Circle sessions and, naturally, captures dozens of essential performances, plus a fair number of inessentials. Anyone with an interest in country music will want the original. Its mission is clear, the performances are inspired, and its significance is undeniable. The second Circle strays far afield from the original concept, bringing in the rather lightweight likes of John Denver and Michael Martin Murphy to mix with volume one holdovers Jimmy Martin and Earl Scruggs. The final volume is also more diffuse than one would like, though eminent guest stars such as Del McCoury, June Carter Cash, and Johnny Cash help it capture the spirit of the original more frequently than does its immediate predecessor. Completists will relish having all three collections in one box, while those who think three times around the circle is two too many are advised to stick with the 30th anniversary reissue of the initial album. --Steven Stolder
Customer Reviews:
Will the circle be unbroken.......2006-02-23
I bought this boxed set after watching the DVD. previously I wasn't particularly a country fan, now I am converted. The recordings span 20 years, each one is excellent, the whole collection being superb. If you want to try "true" country, this is one of the best places to start. A lot of the artists are difficult to get hold of, but all together they make a CD set of many colours. Well worth the price, a thoroughly good collection; to be well recommended.
American Bluegrass Music - Yesterday and Today.......2005-01-27
"Trilogy" is a monument to American Bluegrass music. Within its seven hours of music is a living history of this American art form, from the 1930's until today. It brings together all three volumes of "Will The Circle Be Unbroken" and adds a DVD performance disc, and adds updated notes about the history of this three decade long project by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.
No other collection of country music brings together "founders and originators" such as Mother Maybelle Carter, and the Carter Family, with their musical "children", Roy Acuff, Chet Atkins, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Earl Scruggs, Merle Travis, and Doc Watson, and the third generation...Rosanne Cash, Vince Gill, Emmylou Harris, Allison Krauss, Tony Rice, Dwight Yoakum...some of the greatest talents of three generations and six decades of American music.
Each generation of singers and musicians remain faithful to the "roots" of this music, playing with acoustic guitars, banjos and fiddles. The mood is that of a group of talented friends, sitting in the living room, and singing and playing the songs they love the best. The feeling and heart in these performances can be felt, as well as heard.
The sound quality is exceptional. It is easy to forget these are recordings...it feels as if the musicians are sitting right next to you while they joke, chat, sing and play these songs.
This is too much music to digest in a single sitting. Instead, it is more enjoyable to select just one CD, savor it for a day or two, and then move on to another. I have no doubt that people will be listening to, and loving, this music a century from now. This will be one of the living treasures of American culture for generations to come.
It is amazing that a seven hour collection of some of the greatest music of our time is available for less than $50...less than $7 for each incredible hour of music. At this bargain price, even folks who own one or two of the previous sets included in "Trilogy" ought to buy this collection...and perhaps buy another for their children or a good friend.
5 stars are not enough.......2003-12-16
This is a dynmite collection of blue grass music. After 5CDs and you think it can't get any better there's a DVD that puts it all over the top. Can not say enough good things about this package....
Ultimate NGDB!.......2003-10-09
The ultimate NGDB collection piece I've ever owned. The bonus DVD is spectacular and superb quality - the guest artists on it are incredible. I own all three Circle volumes and have them scattered between the car, home and office. This is the best piece to have all three together in one package. Next on my list of NGDB 'must-haves in a perfect world' would be a new studio album.
I remain in NGDB heaven with my new box set!

"We've lost the living room," Emmylou Harris says before her ethereal version of "Mary Danced with Soldiers," "but today I think we got it back." Full of back-home warmth, inspired pairings--Roseanne Cash and John Hiatt, Levon Helm and the host Nitty Gritty Dirt Band--and a song selection that walks the line between traditionals and excellent contemporary material, somehow this follow up to the barrier-breaking first volume is never nostalgic nor aimless. In fact, it's nearly as good--even John Denver sounds inspired. Jimmy Martin sings "Sitting on Top of the World" as if his life depended on it, and Ricky Skaggs and Levon Helm both turn in vocal performances that stand comfortably beside any of their careers. --Roy Francis Kasten

Vol. II SUPERIOR to Vol. 1.......2005-10-25
As a fan of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band for more than 30 years, it is easy for me to pick "Will the Circle Be Unbroken Vol. 2" as the band's best effort, by far. In 1989 the album won the Grammy Award for "Best Country Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal" plus two other Grammys for individual cuts, and won the Country Music Association's "Album of the Year." Pretty much enough said. Highlights include Paulette Carlson's vocal on "Lovin On the Side," John Denver's vocal on "And So It Goes," the incomparable John Prine on "Grandpa Was a Carpenter," and fine work by NGDB members throughout. (If you want to hear the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band in microcosm, listen to their version of Buddy Holly's "Rave On" on the "Uncle Charlie and his Dog Teddy" LP.)
In the sky, Lord, in the sky.......2004-09-16
Some 17 years after their groundbreaking album Will the Circle Be Unbroken, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band decided to record a "sequel". While the original album featured the Dirt Band performing with veterans of the Nashville scene, they are more inclusive this time, teaming with old timers, contemporaries of theirs and even younger people who they may have influenced. While the results are not as good as the original Circle album, (and how could they be?), this is still a solid, enjoyable album. While it is hard to pick a favorite here, I am partial to the Jimmy Martin sung "I'm Sitting on Top of the World". There is a lot to enjoy here. Recommended to fans of "roots" music.
Genuine heart-felt mountain music played by the best.......2004-07-12
I bought this CD back in 1990 and it is one my favorites. The audio is supreme. The music sounds like a bunch of friends having a good time. Cash, Prine, Helm, Hiatt and Cash are the standouts. Even John Denver has a great song. I am not a "country fan." My tastes are Gov't Mule / Phish / Allman Bros.
My favorite Circle album.......2004-06-28
There are three Circle collections. General opinion is that the first album is the best, the third album is a close second and that this is the weakest of the three. I love all three but this one particularly appeals to me. It has many traditional musicians and singers but also a few less obvious singers like John Denver, Levon Helm (of the Band), John Prine, Roger McGuinn (of the Byrds), Paulette Carlson (of Highway 101) and Bruce Hornsby. Perhaps it is the presence of such guests that some dislike but you can't please everybody.
Whatever you may think of the normal music that some of the guests have recorded, they all justify their place on this excellent album of traditional music, sometimes singing songs they've previously recorded, but adapted to a traditional setting. For some of them, it may have been their chance to record some traditional country without upsetting their fans or their record label. Both would understand that this was (for them) a one-off. They certainly made the most of their opportunity.
So we get Bruce Hornsby singing and playing piano on Valley road, but in a traditional country/bluegrass style. Roger McGuinn and Chris Hillman, both ex-members of the Byrds, sing and play guitar on You ain't going nowhere, a Bob Dylan song that was recorded by the Byrds in the sixties. Michael Martin Murphey sings and plays guitar on Lost river, one of his own songs. John Hiatt sings a duet with Roseanne Cash on One step over the line. John Prine sings and plays guitar on his song Grandpa was a carpenter.
Some of the songs are oldies like Life's railway to heaven (featuring Johnny Cash), I'm sitting on top of the world (featuring Jimmy Martin), the title track (featuring everybody but particularly Johnny Cash, Roy Acuff and Ricky Skaggs) and Amazing grace, an instrumental solo by Randy Scruggs. Other songs appear to be originals including And so it goes (featuring John Denver), Mary danced with soldiers (featuring Emmylou) and Lovin' on the side (featuring Paulette Carlson).
If you haven't got any of the Circle albums, this album is a great one to start with, especially if you're relatively new to traditional country music.

Like so many Americans during the Depression, the Carter Family found themselves forced to stay in motion throughout the 1930s. Rural economies, the locales where country music had taken root, were hit unusually hard by the economic crash. The Carters left their original record label just prior to recording the first 17 of the 20 tunes on Can the Circle Be Unbroken, joining ARC for long enough to prodigiously churn out material they'd previously recorded. The 17 ARC songs here were recorded over 3 days in May 1935, and all reveal a Carter Family growing musically comfortable with their execution on these tunes--especially the slight dronelike quality in Sara's voice, which sounds settled and at times almost languid. Maybelle's voice and guitar emphasize the appropriately unhurried pacing (this was the Depression, after all). As for the closing trio of tracks, they come from a post-Decca session during their short tenure at Columbia, and all bear the mark of greater vocal harmonies between Sara and Maybelle, as well as an increased pitch in the vocals that quickens the pace a tad. These are vitally important recordings, to be sure, a fine, more multihued complement to the band's '20s-era recordings. --Andrew Bartlett

I absolutely loved this c.d. It took me back to another place and time in which I wasn't even born yet.

I never new I could be more pleased with Folk music as I was when I received my Carter family CD from Amazon. Their music is as close to the best of Folk as you can get.
The Carter family- gift to music industry........2007-02-06
Spending time in Carter Fold and seeing and being in A.P.Carter's little mountain home and seeing that Johnny and June just kept it nice made me love thier music more then ever. I want to say Americas first family of music but as a musician I have learned to never anwser that question; "who is the best". I just urge you to have this C.D.

Is the tape speed too slow?.......2005-08-20
Let me first say that this collection of recordings is wonderful. It is the first Carter Family CD I have ever heard.
But, since then, I have heard ealier versions of the songs, and later versions, and have come away a little confused. Their voices on the Columbia recordings are much lower (which at first I thought was cool that Sara sounds like a man) and the tempos are slower. I can only assume that the tape speed is considerably out of whack. Does anyone else know anything about this? I know that Columbia has made this mistake before, most notably on Mile Davis' "Kind of Blue".
Still, the Carters are the real deal. Virtually any of their recordings are fabulous.
Carter Family.......2005-07-23
After watching the PBS special about the Carter family, and loving their music from my childhood, I wanted to hear again the many wonderful songs and sounds. I have always loved hearing the autoharp.
The cd is great.

The title of this tribute to the Carter Family alludes to their best-known spiritual, "Will the Circle Be Unbroken." While that standard isn't included here, the roster of artists renews the spirit of the circle, a familial legacy that encompasses Mother Maybelle's daughter June Carter Cash, June's husband Johnny Cash, Johnny's daughter Rosanne Cash, and generations of artists inspired by them. Highlights range from the yelp of George Jones on "Worried Man Blues" to the surge of rockabilly energy in John Prine's "Bear Creek Blues" to the banjo-driven, fiddle-tinged bluegrass of the Del McCoury Band's "Rambling Boy." As for the family's performances, Rosanne brings a depth of expression to "The Winding Stream" while a sense of mortality pervades Johnny's "Engine One-Forty-Three" and June's "Hold Fast to the Right." And Willie Nelson's solo reading of "You Are My Flower" gives it room to bloom. Album producer John Carter Cash (son of Johnny and June, grandson of Maybelle) makes every one of these tracks feel like family. --Don McLeese
Customer Reviews:
Wonderful tribute album.......2005-09-05
The original Carter family began recording in the 1920's and continued into the 1940's with a brand of music that has influenced many country and folk singers of subsequent generations. Not only that, but the family has itself produced some notable singers such as June Carter (daughter of Maybelle, who sings Hold fast to the right) and Carlene Carter (daughter of June but not featured here). Janette and Joe Carter (daughter and son of Sara and A P Carter) sing here on Little Moses.
This tribute album largely avoids the most famous Carter family songs so you won't find Wabash Cannonball (recorded seven years before Roy Acuff's even more famous version), I'm thinking tonight of my blue eyes (the tune of which has been used for Great speckled bird, Wild side of life and It wasn't God who made honky tonk angels), Keep on the sunny side, Homestead on the farm a.k.a. I wonder how the old folks are at home, Will the circle be unbroken, Jimmy Brown the newsboy, Little darling pal of mine, Lonesome valley, Foggy mountain top and Wildwood flower.
Without any of those classics, the best-known songs here may be Worried man blues (covered here by George Jones), You are my flower (covered here by Willie Nelson) and Gold watch and chain (covered here by Kris Kristofferson and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band - Emmylou included this song on her bluegrass album, Roses in the snow). You should also recognize the tune to Bear Creek blues (here sung by John Prine) as it is the same as Orange Blossom Special.
In poor health, Johnny Cash (whose sixties recording of Orange Blossom Special is the most famous recording of that song) clearly struggled to sing Engine 143 yet the song works well in the circumstances. At the other end of the age spectrum are the Peasall sisters, who have previously appeared on the O brother soundtrack. Her, they join Emmylou for a fine rendition of On the sea of Galilee.
Sheryl Crow (No depression) and Shawn Colvin (Single girl married girl) represent the contemporary music scene well. The other excellent tracks here are Never let the devil get the upper hand of you (Marty Stuart), Black Jack David (Nancy and Norma Blake with Tim O'Brien), Will my mother know me there (The Whites with Ricky Skaggs), The winding stream (Rosanne Cash) and Rambling boy (Del McCoury Band).
My copy of this album is a limited edition that includes a bonus sampler CD. Two of the tracks on that CD are covers of famous Carter family songs. While I appreciate the effort taken to record obscure songs, those two tracks reinforce my belief that this would have been an even better album if two or three famous songs from my earlier list had been included. Still, this album is not - and was never intended to be - a substitute for a collection of the original family's recordings.
If you enjoy traditional folk-country music, you'll surely love this album. You might also enjoy another Carter family tribute that I reviewed a long time ago by Ginny Hawker and Kay Justice, simply titled Bristol.

A play on words that plays! .......2005-01-07
If you like Carter Family music and want current performers this is a good choice. The nice thing is that John Carter Cash keeps the music true to the roots. This is something A.P. could have done and would like. Very well done and something worth having
The Carter Family Revisited.......2004-12-19
John Carter Cash, the son of June Carter and Johnny Cash, has produced here a fitting tribute to the original Carter family. First he has managed to select some of the less often recorded songs and has gathered an interesting, talented group of entertainers to pick and sing these A. P. Carter numbers. Additionally he has written a thoughtful, insightful introduction on the relevance and influence of the Carter Family on bluegrass/folk/country music, whatever you choose to call it. There are some really beautiful numbers here. It's difficult to pick a favorite from so many. Emmylou Harris' rendition of "On The Sea of Galilee" with Randy Scruggs' acoustic guitar sounding so much like Maybelle Carter's style, however, is as good as this kind of music gets. Willie Nelson accompanies himself on guitar in a soulful "You Are My Flower" reminiscent of his "Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain," that was such a big hit years ago. Janette and Joe Carter's (A. P. and Sara's children) arrangement of "Little Moses" complete with Janette's lacy autoharp playing is quite beautiful. These two singers are almost in a time warp and have a sound closer to the original Carter family than anyone else on this CD. "Gold Watch and Chain" by The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and Kris Kristofferson rounds out my favorite four. The two cuts I like least are "Worried Man Blues" by George Jones and "Hold Fast To The Right" by June Carter Cash with vocal backup by her husband. Jones, whose velvety tenor voice I love appears to have pitched this one one key too high; June Carter, although she co-wrote a country classic, "Ring of Fire," and was a great comedienne, was never known for having a beautiful voice. Sad to say, here she basically sings off-key. Perhaps Mr. Cash should have selected another number by her since she does some much better A. P. Carter on her previous solo albums.
There are 15 selections here, certainly something for every bluegrass/Carter Family fan. Wouldn't it be a fine day for music if Emmylou Harris did an all A. P. Carter album, along with Dolly Parton and Linda Ronstadt!

In the early '70s, the original Circle teamed the Dirt Band, a group of longhaired young country-rockers, with several country and bluegrass legends. In an era of polarization between young and old, it introduced countless baby boomers to that music, paving the way for the recent triumph of the O Brother, Where Art Thou soundtrack. This time, the Dirt Band reunites with Jimmy Martin, Earl Scruggs, and Doc Watson, veterans of the first Circle, and adds a host of other country, folk, and bluegrass greats. Despite several stellar performances, among them Del McCoury's bracing "Take Me in Your Lifeboat" and Martin's snappy re-creation of his 1950s favorite "Save It, Save It," most of what's here is merely pleasant. Attempts to replicate the feel of the original, complete with copious between-take studio chitchat and an acoustic guitar coda by Randy Scruggs, come off a bit self-conscious and forced. The original Circle remains a landmark, but in a time when cameo appearances and cross-generation collaborations are so common--Nashville calls them Vocal Events--what was once a unique concept often seems anticlimactic and mundane. --Rich Kienzle

The circle HAS been broken.......2006-04-04
I have both Volume I & II so couldn't resist buying Volume III. The music was good, can't complain about good pickin' like that but I did notice that the original intent of the album is being re-thought it appears and it takes away from the entire concept for me.
Will The Circle Be Unbroken II was originally made to showcase the talents of the decendents and family of the original players/singers on Vol I. It was keeping the "circle" alive by bringing in fresh new sounds from new generations of musicians of those who played on volume I.
TOM PETTY?? Where does that come in to play? How does he fit in the circle? I was amazed that "this ones son" and "that ones son" were invited to play on this album, but the Huskey's (whom I loved for their bass playing) were totally ignored this go 'round.
Junior Huskey played Vol. I, Roy Huskey Jr. (Junior's son) played Vol. II. Why wasn't Roy's son John invited to play on Vol III? Isn't that the purpose of this album? To keep the circle alive? Roy Huskey Jr has 2 sons, one of which is a musician (not sure about the other one). Where was he? Given the tradition of the albums, I don't see how Tom Petty could possibly be invited over a 3rd generation family musician. I was very disappointed to find the Huskey's not on this album. They were the backbone of the first two.
Not just the Huskey's, but there are other noticeable's left out of this album as well. It's just a shame that such a great concept has gone down the tubes.
It seems to me, that in favor of the elite, the circle has most definitely been broken which really takes away from what the album was intended for.
WILL THE CIRCLE BE UNBROKEN, VOL. 4"
Too Much.......2005-07-07
Now, don't get me wrong, I am a huge fan of NGDB, and have at one time or another owned all (or most) of their albums on tape, CD, or vinyl. I saw them in 1972, and 1975 when (in my opinion) they were at their creative peak. They are (again in my opinion)
a wonderfully talented band, no matter who's in the line up.
But, I have to say I was never fan of multi-artist albums. It seems to me a band's creativity can become diluted by straining it through everone else's musical filter. The first Circle album was ok, simply because the concept was unique, and the songs were really good. The second and third time around, it has become tiresome and boring. The Dirt Band records so infrequently any more that it seems they put out a Circle album when they realize their fans are becoming restless. This newest version of Circle has to be the final one. How far can this concept be taken? The idea of long-haired, seeming rocker types doing country and bluegrass with stars of that genre in 1972 was novel and quite interesting, but this Circle album and the one right before it finds the Dirt Band stretching things a bit. Why can't NGDB record more original studio albums? Why can't they rekindle the innovative, original spark they had when I first discovered them? I realize people change as they get older, and musicians don't carry the creative fire with them throughout their long careers, but Lord a Mighty, this Circle stuff is getting old!

Another good one!.......2007-04-19
I like what I hear. I have not really listened to HammerFall, before. But, now I have 2 of there ablums. It's heavy stuff.
THE BEST POWER METAL ON THE FROZEN EARTH!!.......2007-02-04
This ranks along with GLORY TO THE BRAVE and CRIMSON THUNDER as one of my favorite HAMMERFALL albums. It's a carefully constructed anvil of straight ahead Power Metal!! It does have a slower feel, but every song is LOUD and POWERFUL!! Even the Ballads. The production values on this album rival CRIMSON THUNDER and surpass their BEST album, GLORY TO THE BRAVE.
Every track is great, but my favorites would be BLOOD BOUND and BORN TO RULE.
If you're looking to start a collection of Power Metal, Sweden's HAMMERFALL is the place to start!! THEY ROCK THE FROZEN NORTH!!
As well as the albums I've mentioned above, also get The Double Live album, ONE CRIMSON NIGHT and LEGACY OF KINGS. Hell, buy them all!! RENEGADE is GREAT too!!
Unfortunately, their lastest THRESHOLD is also their weakest. Avoid that one.
RAISE THE HAMMER!!
ENJOY.
Good metal .......2007-01-17
I took a chance on this from the 30 second clip. I was not disappointed. Good riffs and lyrics. Good rhythm and tempo. If you liked the older metal from the early to mid 80's, you'll like this(and I don't mean the hair metal).
Pretty darn good!.......2006-12-02
This is power metal make no mistake about that and for what it is, it's very good. It has all kinds of nicely played well arranged parts that flow together seamlessly. It really is nicely done. It's not ground breaking power metal, but it's good stuff . The mix is excellent as well which makes it even better in my books as I hate crappy mixes.
The only thing I could have done without was the Yelling/grunting/whatever you want to call it at the beginning of the last track, Knights Of The 21st Century. Ok already, enough with "the Prophecy argh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hell yeah", we get it already!
This is a fine cd, so pick it up if you enjoy power metal, prog metal, 80's metal etc as I'm sure you will not be disappointed.
Just don't expect anything groundbreaking from these guys..........2006-07-11
Just don't expect anything coming from this band to be original, onnovative or whatever. Hammerfall is stuck into his style more than Iron Maiden or AC/DC or Motorhead, and they could not care less. They simply don't / won't change even a little bit.
This album is exactly identical to the others: theme of the lyrics, general sound (producer Charles Bauerfeind makes all European power metal bands sound the same).

This One Is Good---But Not "The Best".......2006-09-12
Type the following into the search on Amazon to find the best English version of The Merry Widow: Léhar: The Land of Smiles; The Merry Widow; The Count of Luxembourg (Highlights)
Arguably "The Best" English "Merry Widow ", September 11, 2006
The "best version" of the "Merry Widow" is NOT this one. The best version is the one with English translation by Christopher Hassel sung by June Bronhill. I loved that rendition ever since I first heard it in about 1960. What's to love? First the translation is the best I've heard. The language doesn't sound "stilted" as some others. And, you can understand almost every word sung. Plus, the famous song, "Vilja" has some wording that moves me every time I hear it: The soprano sings, "Love me and I'll DIE for you!" with "die" somewhat emphasized. I don't know, there's just something "powerful" about someone saying they'd "die" for love! AND, at the end of "Vilja" the chorus and soprano raise to a crescendo hitting a high note together. In many renditions the chorus is heard but not the soprano on the final high note. In THIS version, the soprano, June Bronhill, can be heard rising to the final high note LOUDER than the chorus---which gives a very thrilling effect as she holds that final note, I assure you!
The "problem" is that this June Bronhill, Reid, and Hassel version is hard to find on CD. For example, the Bronhill CD is made in Holland and "there is one left", so it says on Amazon. But, if you can find it, I think it would be very much worth a listen. Then, after hearing it, if you think there's a "better" Merry Widow, please let ME know! Thanks. Email:boland7214@aol.
Joan Sutherland under the baton of Richard Bonynge.......2004-02-24
THE MERRY WIDOW, Franz Lehar's dizzying and delightful operetta chestnut, is given the grand treatment in this highlights album featuring Joan Sutherland.
There have been many widows (including June Bronhill, Anna Moffo, Beverly Sills), though Joan Sutherland's WIDOW has always been especially grand. The supporting cast on this recording features Werner Krenn as Count Danilo with Valerie Masterson as Valencienne, Regina Resnik as Zo-Zo and John Brecknock as Camille, with Francis Egerton, John Fryatt, Graeme Ewer and the Ambrosian Singers.
Sutherland's performance as Hanna Glawari is full of masterful strokes and she approaches the score with a twinkle in her eye, aware of the comedy in the piece. Richard Bonynge conducts the National Philharmonic Orchestra and they are especially chill-inducing with the Overture.
All-in-all a superlative recording at a bargain price.
Performances better than the recording.......2004-01-18
Unfortunately this CD was made from the Australian TV tapeing of The Merry Widow, a shame that the microphones are not of high enough quality to capture the really fine performances, it is hard enough to understand what is being sung when properly recorded let alone when the equipment stinks, however if you enjoy Joan Southerland as much as I do you can overlook the flaws in the recording and just get carried away with the voice, it would be nice if a libretto had been included, a rarity today, that used to be common in the era of the LP

It doesn't get as UNORIGINAL as this.......2005-05-18
bad band, bad music, these guys obviosuly have NO TALENT. not original at all.
Not Quite Up To Standards.......2005-03-26
First, I'll start this review by saying that I'm basically a metal guy, but I do like some other genres, hardcore / metalcore being two of these (though I have grown a bit out of both genres recently). So I bought Atreyu's album "The Curse" a few months back when it came out and there was sampler with three other Victory records bands on it, A Perfect Murder being one, with their track "Possessed". I loved the intro riff. I loved the intense buildup, to the metal-ish solo, to the breakdowns, all of it. I had to get this album, but of course a few other CDs came out first that I had to get and all that, so about four or five months later I finally picked this album up and of course listened to the track "Possessed". Then I went on to listen to the first track and, to say the least, I was not impressed. It just seemed like another generic hardcore track. Basically, it didn't even begin to touch what I expected from this album given the song "Possessed". The rest of this album was, much to my dismay, pretty much like the first track. There are some catchy parts, like the breakdown in "Speak Without Faith" and the clean guitar and drum passage halfway through "No Truce" that I always find humming, but overall, this is just one of those CDs that you listen to and don't really remember afterwards. The singer sounds way too much like Jamey Jasta, which makes all the vocals sound alike and eventually grow a tad tedious. The musicianship is passable. The guys obviously aren't amateurs, but I think they need to work on variation and not just follow the ever growing hardcore crowd. If they don't restrain themselves to what's trendy, I know they have potential. "Possessed" proved that. Also, there's an amazing instrumental track on here called "No Pulse in my Veins" I recommend you download.
What was I thinking?.......2005-01-04
I had heard a couple of short clips of them over the net and I thought they sounded pretty promising. I went out and bought this album and I was disappointed. At times the music makes no sense at all. It goes from fairly heavy riffage to like an 80's hair band feel. That's what I got out of this album, it's not worth buying...
Metal-core at its best..........2004-10-15
I was blown away when i first listing to the band a perfect murder's "unbroken" because of their sound... It rimends me of the old metallica, pantera, and, hatebreed all blending in together. All the songs are brutal and very much agressive beyond words can truly express. Amazing lirycs, production, sound, and, energy as well as how talent " a perfect murder" realy is with not one weak track to be found, in the whole album. I recommend.
Hardcore with that metallic punch.......2004-09-23
Hatebreed hardcore if you will. The singer has a more aggressive bark and the guitars hit an almost thrash metal speed at times. But the hardcore chuggachugga and stark breakdowns bring this all back into the core pit territory. When A Perfect Murder slows things down to a sludgy crawl, the bass rumbles through with more clarity and the unit strikes with a more forceful impact. When the music speeds up, it's just good hardcore with the metal influence. Lots of that around nowadays. A Perfect Murder make a good dent in the genre by taking the roots of hardcore and bringing in the thrash guitar, the aforementioned sluggish drawn out punch and the slick guitar break (and even the occasional more rock influenced solo). Then dose it with plenty of those pit swirling breakdowns where the whole song pulls itself into one big riff and just pounds through the listener. File as another of those bands that doesn't really bring that much new to the hardcore table, but what they do bring is well done and worth a listen.
