Patriotic.......2007-01-16
I bought this CD for my car, so when my grandkids want to listen or if I need a "patriotic" lift, these songs do the trick. There is one favorite of the kids that I too have gotten to like, as it pays tribute to each of our armed services, specifically mentioning the Army, Navy, Marine corps and Coast Guard.
Just give us a sermon instead.......2006-10-05
There are of course, several songs on this CD which are actually songs, i.e., tracks 2-7 and 9-10. But Lee Greenwood only wrote one of them, and it is the least melodic and the most hokey.
Tracks 1 and 8 are just awful. "Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, ugh!" Puh-leeez. It's not even good music.
Not to mention the fact that one track lists two freedoms of - speech, religion - and then two freedoms from - want and fear ... a complete butchering of the First Amendment.
But what else is new in our hyper-patriotic, hyper-consumerist country?
We should all be real Patriots.......2006-07-06
Lee Greenwood at his best. A real classic in American music. John Phillip Sousa would have loved it. It exhudes the kind of Patriotim that your parents and grandparents knew and understood. Now it is time to "rally-round-the-flag" in our generation with Lee Greenwood. It makes you feel good about yourself and your country!
Four Stars for God Bless the USA..........2006-05-16
but I didn't really care for the arrangements of the rest of the songs on this CD. The musical accompaniment as well as the vocal improvs were too over the top for the classics included in this collection.
Excellent.......2005-08-16
Excellent! This is the 4th time I have purchased this CD. I have one in the car and one in the home and two I have given for gifts. My 3 and 6 year old sons love number 8 "The Great Defenders" and so do I. God Bless America!

Music we all need to hear once in a while........2007-01-04
This album is well put together and I enjoy the old standards. Music is an integral part of our heritage. Often when I listen to this album, I think about what our country has been through and how very, very important it is to appreciate what we have. I spent 3 years living in France in the 60's and I cannot tell you how much all Americans looked forward to going "Home!"
Enjoy!!
A very good CD.......2005-06-16
If you like a mix of songs and marches very well played, this CD is for you. The voices of the singers are good, the music support the lyrics and it is easy to listen or to sing along. Also, nearby half of the tunes are played by the Band of the Grenadier Guards and for me, this Band is the best band to play Sousa marches and military marches. The precision of the execution is perfect, the sound is lovely and the technical quality of the recording is perfect. When I listen Anchors Aweigh, I always hear the sound of the waves and it is one of the only bands that gives me this feeling. If you have just one CD of military music to buy, you may buy this one; it is a best buy.
Revision of history.......2005-03-27
As usual, "Dixie," "The Bonnie Blue Flag," and other songs of a Southern genre are conspicuously absent. Why not throw in a couple of rap tunes to make this album truly "American?"
Lovely CD--shameful misspelling on the song titles.......2002-11-22
I do not own this CD--though it appears it would be a wonderful album to listen to. I was compelled to write my review because of the misspelling of our national anthem, The Star-Spangled Banner (as opposed to "The Star Bangled Banner" as it appears not once but twice on the song list). I do hope this error is corrected.
The Ultimate Patriotic Album.......2002-07-20
For all those patriots out there who want to listen to classical patriotic music, then get this album. This has a lot of tracks from yankee doodle march to the Washington post march. Even Amazing grace is here. The orchestras and the chorus here, gave there best performance ever.
Enjoy

Makes me feel closer to everyone... .......2007-05-30
When my husband deploys, I feel alone, scared and yes worried.. As a military wife you usually aren't allowed to admit that.. :) This cd is amazing... I love it and it makes him being gone a lot easier.. I don't care what anyone says... We are in the right fight.. at the right time with the right President. I don't like him being gone.. But its worth it.. This CD makes me feel patriotic.. it tugs at my heartstrings.. makes me smile.. I can imagine driving with Private Andrew Malone.. I can feel proud to be an American... I can cry over "I'm already there.." All the songs make me smile... So yes.. worth every penny and more!!!
God Bless America!!!
Nashville hacks singing for faux-patriotism.......2005-12-23
Brooks & Dunn, Kenny Chesney, Lonestar, Martina McBride, Montgomery Gentry, Aaron Tippin, Lee Greenwood, Neal McCoy, Kenny Rogers, Randy Travis, Phil Vassar, The Warren Brothers, Dusty Drake, Hank Williams Jr., Alabama, The Charlie Daniels Band, David Ball, and Blackhawk.
What do these artists have in common? Cutting edge musical geniuses? Gifted songwriters able to speak to a wide range of audiences? Innovators in their genre?
Err, no.
Actually what they all have in common is that they all appear on this package, created to commercially exploit the war on terrorism, one which contains songs like Where The Stars And Stripes And The Eagle Fly, This Ain't No Rag, It's A Flag, and Back Where I Come From. In other words, maudlin, xenophobic, cliche filled, black/white dichotomous sentiments, and the lack of any attempt at rational or questioning political analysis, all set to fiddles and pedal steel guitars, and to be marketed and sold at Wal-Mart. I should add that I am not against patriotism, when it is intelligent and well informed; this, however, is dumb, reactionary faux-patriotism. Nothing is more so than the song God Bless the USA. As an American who loves his country, I can say that this song, with its syrupy sound and its naive lyrics, does not speak for me.
I listened to a bit of this schlock on a plane ride a while back just to see how much of it I could take. The answer was - not very much. What little I could take made me want to drink, and heavily.
Some of these performers, specifically Brooks and Dunn, Randy Travis, Charlie Daniels, and perhaps Kenny Chesney and even (I hate to admit) Toby Keith are actually fairly talented; others, like former lounge singer Lee Greenwood, Alabama, Montgomery Gentry, etc, are 3rd rate musical hacks.
Ultimately, listening to this nonsense, I'm reminded that some of the greats of the genre, like Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, George Jones, and Willie Nelson were neither knee-jerk
reactionaries nor apologists for a ruling political party. Then again, Dusty Drake, Montgomery Gentry, and Blackhawk are no Johnny Cashes. Just Nashville hacks, soon to be forgotten.
Great CD.......2005-08-21
It is a great CD. If you like country music, this is a great buy. Not all the songs are about America, but make you feel good and proud of where you come from.
NOTE: Most of the bad reviews below have to more with politics than music. These folks probably have never listened to all the songs let alone actually buying the CD.
To to a kids review.......2005-07-31
"would like to say that this is a great cd and I love it when people write reviews like the one written on Dec. 21, 2004 titled (One of the worst cds ever). People like you make me sick, first you don't use your real name (like your a terrorist wearing a hood), next you play it off like a kid wrote that review, very cowardly. "
I'll tell you I'm a kid (age 16) and some don't want to use their real name because this is the internet, not real life. If you knew my name or the original reviewer's real name, would that make any difference? Anywa, you say since a reviewer doesn't use their real name, they are a terrorist? Very intelligent.
"If your home is destroyed by someone, you are not going to look for the people or person involved. No you are going to the proper authorities and they will handle it.
That is what happened here. We were attacked and the proper authorities are handling the situation."
We were not attacked by Iraq and the proper authorities are not handling the situation. We attacked Afghanistan, but Iraq has nothing to do with this.
"Look I am all for freedom for imagrant's but they took it to far with the attacks. Living in our country, working here, becoming friendly with the neighborhoods and gaining the trust of everyone around just to destroy part of the country you love (so you say) is just something that cannot be tolerated. At least we had the guts to tell them we were coming. You should be thankful that you have a country who is willing to protect you and your family. "
So you think it's immigrants fault that we were attacked? And you call yourself an American? You should be blind to race and country of origin, we are all Americans here. The country of Afghanistan attacked us and we went after them, that has nothing to do with immigrants.
"Right after 9/11 happened EVERYONE was togther as a whole to make sure the people behind this act of cowardly violence (kind of like the way you wrote your rewiew) and any kind of terroristic threats on U.S.A. would never happen again. But I guess for some of you people that was just like hopping on the band wagon for a short period of time."
It was not cowardly violence. In a war you strive to kill the most enemies you can. I would only Hope the US would strive to kill or detain as many terrorists as they can just as their target was civilians. Whatever you say, suicide bombings are not cowardly, they are actually pretty effective. Find me a US citizen willing to fly a plane into a building full of terrorists to kill our enemies.
"It's not a matter of what song's are good to listen to and what songs aren't. It's about a bunch of people who support the country (they love) so they can feel safe to go shopping, go to work or just go for a walk and not have to worry about some idiot flying a couple of planes into some building's or into the ground and never see their loved ones or the light of day ever again."
Ah, back to the actual review of the CD, which you have made a minor detail. I don't care about what these singers support, I care about their music. I care about what politicians support, and how singers sing. I happen to like many of the songs on the CD, but I didn't buy it because I own many of the songs already.
"How can you say you love something if you are going to let it get hurt and not try to justify the situation. I feel sorry for the people in your life."
Well more people are in car crashes every year than were in the WTC during 9/11, so you should be pushing for safety in cars. How can you say you love something if you are going to let it get hurt and not try to justify the situation? Of course you are a very effective tool of the terrorists, the typical American scared out of his pants when a building goes down, scared to shop, when you are in more danger driving your car. We have killed over 10 times the ammount of CIVILIANS in Iraq (nothing to do with 9/11) than the 9/11 attacks killed. Of course I'm sure they aren't people to you.
But back to the CD, I am really thinking about buying it mainly just for "Hey Mr. President" and I'm dissapointed they didn't put it on another CD, I love the song and the Warren Brothers.
Most of the songs are really great, although "God Bless The USA" was overplayed and I used to love it, but now I'm just tired of it. All of these songs are great, although some don't even seem to be patriotic. But that doesn't matter to me, because great music is great music, which is worth buying.

Eeww!.......2006-06-19
This is like the music to one of those theme park Celebrate America type shows. The musical arrangements have that hokey, somewhat dated, overly sweet and enthusiatic feel I hate. I thought I was getting the standard versions of these songs but what I got was the cruise ship extravaganza, yuck!
this land is your land.......2006-04-17
to think that "this land is your land" is a patriotic song is laughable at best, however is a common misconception of the song. you'd think that the creators of this cd would research the songs they put on the cd a little more, and find that "this land is your land" is actually a protest song (original lyrics contained lyrics such as "on that sign there it said private property/but on the other side it didn't say nothing/that side was made for you and me", an obvious attack on capitalism".
America's Favorite Patriotic Songs.......2005-09-30
The title says it all.
Good old fashioned "goose bump" music.
Great Place to Start a Patriotic Music Collection.......2002-09-12
This choral collection features a majority of the best known and loved patriotic songs from our country's history. I'll admit I was a little leery of the choral part when I first picked it up, but I've found that, for the most part, it works really well.
It especially stands out on the acappella version of "My Country 'Tis of Thee." It's absolutely stunning. Other fun songs are "This Land is Your Land," which I really wasn't familiar with before I bought this, and a personal recent favorite song "God Bless the USA." I love having the "Armed Forces Medley" on here so I can learn these songs. And the instrumental arrangement on "Stars and Stripes Forever Medley" at the end has me taping my toes every time I hear it.
There are a couple missteps, however. I've heard better versions of "The Star Spangled Banner." I think one reason I'm disappointed with it is that they only include one verse. I love the other verses of our national anthem, and wished they'd included at least one more since they included multiple verses of all the other songs. Also, "If My People" and "God Save America," while find songs, just don't seem to fit here.
Overall, you can't go wrong with this collection. I'm just starting to look for patriotic music, and this has been a wonderful first CD.

Album Description
Patriotic Country 2 is the follow-up to 2004's popular debut, Patriotic Country. It serves the dual purpose of providing entertainment for country music fans as well as raising awareness for the Armed Services YMCA, a charity supporting the families of junior enlisted military personnel.
Patriotic Country 2 features 17 popular, patriotic-themed songs from today's hottest stars and the legends of country music. Patriotic Country 2 is filled with chart-topping favorites including Alabama's "Down Home" and Darryl Worley's "Have You Forgotten," both of which rose to #1 on Billboard's Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart. Other songs such as Buddy Jewell's "Sweet Southern Comfort" and Aaron Tippin's "You've Got to Stand for Something" have topped the Billboard Hot Country Recurrent Chart. American music for American heroes, Patriotic Country 2 is an uplifting project, helping to unite the nation behind a vital, common cause: support for our troops and military families.
Artists appearing on Patriotic Country 2 are thrilled to be involved with this important national project.
Aaron Tippin says "We are so blessed in America. Here's a nice way to say thank you to the people who guarantee our freedom, and to remember the enormous sacrifices their families make."
John Conlee, who dedicates the Army's offical new anthem, "They Also Serve" to the CD, agrees. "I feel so strongly about this. We have to do everything we can to support the families of our men and women in uniform."
In addition to helping Americans remember the sacrifices our troops make every day, Patriotic Country 2 will raise awareness of the Armed Services YMCA. S. Frank Gallo, RADM USN (Ret.), National Executive Director of the Armed Services YMCA explains, "The Armed Services YMCA works tirelessly to enrich the lives of the families of junior enlisted military personnel. We are proud to be involved in this incredible effort, and are delighted to have the support and enthusiasm of all Americans who seek new ways to show their appreciation for our young men and women in uniform." The Armed Services YMCA has branches located on or near 34 U.S. military installations around the world and serves more than 450,000 people each year.

This is the second CD in a set, and it is great. There is a lot of really great country music on both of these CD's.
Do yourself a favor, go out and buy it. You'll love it.
CountryInterviewsOnline.net Review in Michael's Music Room.......2005-07-04
By: Michael Coyle
In honor of this year's Flag Day, Sony BMG Music released the Patriotic Country 2, the sequel to the very popular original Patriotic Country. In terms of holidays, however, the feel of this CD would be much better suited for a Memorial Day release with many somber songs about fighting and dying for the red, white, and blue. In fact, most of the CD is very intensely thought provoking with its fine blend of old and new favorites. Older key songs added, and songs that were surprisingly not included in the first compilation, include Willie Nelson's "Living in the Promise Land" and Billy Ray Cyrus's "Some Gave All." Both these songs exemplify the way a patriotic song should be done, unlike some present day, overly dramatized wartime lyrics. Still, the newer fare provided in this package can create as much impact as some of the older unwavering standards. Songs such as Darryl Worley's "Have You Forgotten", Chely Wright's "The Bumper of my SUV", Lonestar's "Somebody's Someone" and John Conlee's "They Also Serve" all prove that great patriotic music can still come from times of great tragedy and war.
Nevertheless, like adding a fourteenth, fifteenth, and sixteenth stripe on the American flag, some songs just didn't seem to fit. In terms of country music, some songs like Montgomery Gentry's "You Do Your Thing," Phil Vassar's "This is God," and Buddy Jewel's "Sweet Southern Comfort" are truly great country songs and belong on a number of country compilation CD's. However in terms of American nationalism, the songs don't seem to mesh with the US spirit-heavy theme. Whereas 13 tracks would have been a perfect fit, songs such as these just seem to be added for the American merchandising side instead of American allegiance. But the songs that do portray the heart of liberty and freedom do so poignantly and just as strikingly as those on the original Patriotic Country CD. All in all, this compilation may not be the Fourth of July celebration starter, but it certainly makes a great repertoire of reflection in a time of our nation's struggles.

This is a really great album, which I wish I had before now. I ordered it for a friend who was interested in quoting the "Rugged Old Flag", and in the process discovered an album full of the essence of Johnny Cash. Sorry I waited so long. I thought I had all of his albums, but this is a treasure.

I love this traditional music, even better with a great
singer like the late JR Cash.
Thank you!
I don't like to brag........2006-08-29
This album was released in 1974. Believe it or not, it was the first album on which Johnny Cash wrote all the songs himself. "Ragged Old Flag" was the single from the album. It's a great, patriotic song, but it only reached a disappointing #31 on the Country chart. Most of the other songs on the album are good, adressing subjects like the environment, the working man, prison and the Lord. Fans of The Man in Black should enjoy it.
Cash in the '70s -- a great time to be a fan.......2003-09-29
"Ragged Old Flag" is a pleasurable album to listen to on many levels, a period-piece that holds up well in Johnny Cash's extensive catalog. First, it showcases Cash at a vibrant, conscious period of his career in the early- to mid-'70s. His baritone voice is warm and full, his songs are lyrically thought-provoking and easy on the ears, and his vision and demeanor seem focused; you can tell he was an authentic working man who admired other working men and women. And, though Cash was well-known for covering the work of other great artists' songs, on "Ragged Old Flag" every song is his own, written exclusively by him -- and the results are great.
The fiercely proud, storytelling title track is an ode to past American wars, and the song's prose is stunning. Cash succinctly sums up, in his heartfelt way, the hardships "Old Glory" has endured through the many years and wars this country has fought, through the eyes of a smalltown gentleman who's been around for a while. "Don't Go Near the Water" is a simple song where Cash is fishing with his young son, lamenting the growing deterioration of the water's content, speaking to the larger issue of worsening environmental conditions in the U.S. at that time. However, this 29-minute record is far from a political diatribe, as most of the songs are classic Cash tunes that speak to good old-fashioned middle-Americans, living ordinary lives. "All I Do is Drive" is about the grueling life on the road of a semi driver; "King of the Hill" deals with climbing up the ladder at work; "Pie in the Sky" talks about death; "While I've Got it on my Mind" speaks volumes about the benefits of marriage; "I'm a Worried Man" talks about the worry that's involved when there's young mouths to feed and not enough currency in the household. Interspersed with this sing-along campfire music is the background vocals from the legendary Oak Ridge Boys (see The Definitive Collection (Oak Ridge Boys), whose presence lends a lushness to the otherwise stark but worthy Cash-written songs.
Overall, it's just simply hard not to like this simplistic album that not only captured a time period, but also captures Cash at a poignant moment in his long, storied career. While many of Cash's older live albums, and his later Rick Rubin-produced records get more attention (see American V: A Hundred Highways), "Ragged Old Glory" is a fantastic starting point to discover the Man in Black's admirable mindset and great music.
A powerful political album.......2003-02-26
Ol' Johnny really had a few bones to pick on this issue-oriented album, which reflects the disillusionment and disaffection of Middle America in the post-Watergate era. Environmental collapse, unemployment, homelessness, substance abuse and patriotism are all adressed, with Cash adopting a somewhat aggrieved tone, an exasperated insistence that us folks could probably all pull together and make things a lot better than they've been. A good album, although a bit more "message-y" than his work tends to be. The title track is a classic country recitation, while the rest of the record has plenty of solid music to back it up... and plenty of powerful lyrics, many with real emotional punch.

Very Disappointed.......2006-06-26
The renditions of these great songs are an embarassment. If you are looking for rousing versions of patriotic music forget it on this CD. Also not the same title list on the CD as on the item description on Amazon.
Kind of disappointed! .......2005-03-22
Was'nt exactly what I expected. There must be two versions to this CD. The tracts are not the same as the CD listed on Amazon.
There are 16 like the other one, but a lot of the songs are different. All are vocal. I would'nt buy this CD unless you can get it really cheap and you are willing to get a CD that is different from the one listed. Has good sound but is not my style.
Looking at the release date makes one cringe, but good album.......2004-05-16
Trust the distributor to release this compilation on 9/11 of all days!! However it is still a good collection of America's best patriotic music. Favourites include 'Yankee Doodle' and the national anthem 'Star Spangled Banner'. A fine album for proud Americans

Outstanding Performance and Collection of Songs.......2006-03-29
I am impressed with the quality of the Gramercy Brass Ensemble's performance of these traditional American Patriot pieces.
Beautiful sound, outstanding musicianship, classic yet spirited arrangements, and wide variety from national anthems to branch-specific armed forces hymns.
I would recommend this recording to anyone looking to hear American Patriotic music at its best. A very nice CD.
Great Patriotic CD.......2004-02-21
This is a great CD if you ever need or want to have patriotic music. American music played by an American brass band. This group sounds terrific. For those of you unfamiliar with brass band, it is comprised of 25 brass players and 2 or 3 percussionists. You get a rich, full sonority and these guys play GREAT! This CD is HIGHLY recommended to all bras players who want to hear tone quality, timbre, intonation, and more. Band directors would be wise to use this as a model for their students for everything from pitch to phrasing. Everybody else would be wise to pick it up if you like Americana. I know people who use this for their commute because it is upbeat and uplifting. Excellent CD!!!! You may also want to check out their second CD entitled "Christmas Time Is Here". Also highly recommended.

Customer Reviews:
not to great.......2007-04-04
We were disappointed with this CD, but for the price I guess we can't expect much. I didn't care for the new style presentation of the songs. I like a more traditional rendering.
Not so bad, 100 tunes for 4$.......2005-06-22
I red the comments of two other people who have bought this 4 CD BOX SET and it is not really so bad. I will even add that there are some excellent tunes. However, I must agree with the fact that few tunes seem to have been recorded 40 or 50 years ago, mainly when you hear the scratches of an old turntable but it is just 2 or 3 tunes. Furthermore, if you do not know American music, it is a good BOX SET to buy if you consider that you received 4 CD for 4$ including 100 tunes. On these 4 CD, I have heard some orchestration that I have never heard before and I consider that they are different but interesting. Any way, after hearing these 100 tunes, you will say to yourself that you like this tune, this other tune, this other tune and so on and you will be able to buy a more expensive CD with the tunes that you like. However, I have bought many CDs in the last few weeks and as you know, there are always some tunes that you like and some tunes that you do not like on every CD that you will buy. So, don't buy it at 25$ but at 4 or 5$ dollars, it is a very good choice for 100 tunes.
You get what you pay for........2004-07-04
You get what you pay for. The singers put their own spin on the singing of each song. If you didn't hear the words you would not recognize some of them. Even some of the music sounds like a bad recording of music played on a turntable. Definitely not worth the price.
Now I know why there were no song samples to listen to ..........2004-07-04
I wish this review had been here when I was thinking of purchasing it. I guess you get what you pay for. If you are thinking of buying this, you are better off recording your own CDs (or at least buying one that you can listen to a sampling of the songs). This album includes songs that were mere recordings of the songs playing on an old record player. It's almost so unbelievable that it is funny.

There's NO ONE Like Charlie Daniels!.......2007-03-16
If only we could find a man like Charlie Daniels to lead this country back to what we once were - The Greatest Nation On Earth! He may be countrified, he may be a Simple Man, but by the grace of God he is EXACTLY what he is: a red-blooded American who pulls no punches, and leaves nothing unsaid. God bless you, Charlie Daniels, and God bless our still-great country.
AMEN Mr. Daniels!!!.......2006-02-27
A fantastic CD for any true American to have in their collection.
You don't even necessarily need to like country music to enjoy this very Patriotic music, But, loving America will pretty much guarantee you will be glad you bought it.
great american country album.......2004-08-28
i really enjoy this album. it is a must have for all of us fans of mr daniels. i feel just about like him when it comes to america. like america should be freedom of speach. he's welcome to his' just as i am and you are. he is the king of sothern country music and always will be. so but this one if you like ole charlie daniels. its a must have. you'll be glad ya did. i am.
jingoistic pablum.......2004-06-30
Mr. Daniels is clearly profiteering from the War on Iraq, just like those idiots who were selling t-shirts with pictures of the twin towers exploding a day after 9/11. Shame on you, Mr. Daniels.
Strong words to make you proud.......2004-03-05
I am not an American, but I live in this country as a foreign worker and I appreciate everything good that America stands for. I am here legally, I didn't sneak across borders, nor am I living on welfare. I love this country as though it were my own. So I despise self-hating American liberals and those who would sell out this country to the villains of the world, including the corrupt United Nations.
I thank Charlie Daniels for being one of those rare celebrities who are proud of their country and unashamed to be public about it. I listened to this entire album in Borders before I bought it. The opening track is a spoken word piece taken from Daniels' book "This Ain't No Rag." It's a beautiful description of all that's great about America.
The rest of the songs are all patriotic. Country music is not my favorite genre, but this music is good because of its lyrical content. There are even some songs that got my foot tapping, like the "Summer of '68," about the way the Vietnam Vets were persecuted by self-indulgent hippies who had neither the courage to lay down their lives nor the insight to appreciate it. "American Farmer" is a salute to the unappreciated farmers that the Democratic Party is trying to take subsidies away from. Charlie even salutes MLK Jr. on "Let Freedom Ring." "The Last Fallen Hero" is a ode to US troops currently in Iraq. It's like an anthem but it has a sound that reminds me a bit of Leonard Cohen. "Simple Man" is an expression of outrage at the lack of justice in liberal-dominated courts and Charlie suggests a few alternative means of justice!
This album is an excellent counterpoint to the empty-headed refrains of Steve Earle, the Dixie Chicks, Bruce Springsteen, Chrissie Hynde and other knee-jerk liberals.
