Tara Jane O'Neil is a US singer-songwriter with three previous albums, two on Touch & Go's Quarterstick (Calexico & Rachel's). She previously played with early post-rock pioneers Rodan, contemporaries of Slint (both from the burgeoning Louisville, Kentucky scene), plus Restin, Come & the Sonora Pine. 'Bones' features tracks spanning ruminative, hypnotic instrumentals to subdued, enigmatic post-folk, vocals floating in airy layers of guitar, strings & piano. Two tracks featured come from 2003 minor-release 7 inch & one from O'Neil's Japan-only art book (which featured a bonus three inch CD). 12 tracks packaged in a miniature LP gatefold sleeve. Mirwais, Oasis, Massive Attack, Overseer, Klint, Madonna, even some of the grreaat one-lines from the movie. "Do you know what nemesis means?" Well get this soundtrack either way. Mirwais' "Disco Science" is awesome, as is "Fuckin in the Bushes" by Oasis (and I am NOT an Oasis fan). "Angel" by Massive Attack...incredible. Just get it.

that doesn't stop that from being one cracker of a cd. the UK edition has 15 songs and 8 quotes from the film making a total of 23 tracks in all. the tracks are very cool the stranglers golden brown and 10cc's dreadlock holiday and overseer's supermoves being my faves but the cd as a whole is pucker. if there is one cd soundtrack you need to get this year is the one. one quick note the US tracklisting differs slightly in terms of running order i do believe in closing if you enjoyed the film (i know i did i saw it twice) you will dig the music on this disc.

Once again Frankie has outdone himself with this classic gem which was created as a tribute to 9-11 since he lives in NYC. This man is amazing!!! Anyone who can take 18 of their own original songs and make an entire mix without it sounding repetitive is a god. The secret track at the end of the cd is a very touching track leaving the listener with an emotional response of what a New Yorker must have felt on that tragic day.

It took me two years to track this CD down. If you love Frankie Bones it's a must have. If you see it you betta grab it. P.L.U.R.

Both b-sides on this single, "Born To Cry" and "Little Lil", are right on pace with The Hives' smashing third LP, Tyrannosaurus Hives. So, given that, I would highly recommend buying this if you loved the entire album. "Little Lil" (written by Mel Larson) has some excellent guitar work, while the lyrics are a bit on the straightforward side compared to some of the lyrical masterpieces on T-Hives (i.e. "Abra Cadaver", "Missing Link", "Walk Idiot Walk", etc.). There seems to be a lot of shouts of 'little lil', though they are not really off-putting. It's a good song overall, but having it as a b-side doesn't seem improper. "Born To Cry", on the other hand, is a definite hidden gem amidst all that The Hives have done, although it is a Dion (Dimucci) cover. It kind of reminds me of a fusion of "Diabolic Scheme" and Veni Vidi Vicious' notorious "Find Another Girl", as it has more of a slow hard-rock feel to it. Fitzsimmons' voice really outshines the music--the opposite of "Little Lil". Fittingly, his voice takes on a howling, crying attitude; from the fake weeping in the organ-fronted solo to the final shout of 'I was... born to cry!'

One small problem with this single is that it's over before you know it. The two-minute "Two-timing Touch And Broken Bones" is backed with equally short b-sides (approximately 2:17 for each song), which makes a total run time of just over six and a half minutes. But that's The Hives for you. The last thing featured on this single-CD is the video for "Two-timing Touch And Broken Bones", which should pop right up when you put the disc in your computer drive. As far as videos go, I guess I'd say it's probably pretty good. In conclusion, the two rarities featured here--although apparent covers--are worth checking out if you fell in love with Tyrannosaurus Hives. Even though neither b-side is in my top 10 favorite Hives songs, "Born To Cry" is a close-behind eleventh or twelfth favorite while "Little Lil" is worth it for some stellar guitar work. I recommend this.

    For those that already own the US version you will probably don't want to purchase this CD. While the addition of Deja Vu is a great track that is sadly missing from the US version I'm not sure that it is worth paying an additional 16 or 17 dollars for. Hopefully it will be available on a music service for 99 cents.

    This one of those CD's that every song is brilliant from the first song Golden Lion to the twelveth and last song Deja Vu. It's hard for me to pick a favorite sone because they are all outstanding.

    There are some songs that remind me of the band White Stripes in terms of their sound and style. Some of the vocal styling that Karen uses also reminds me of Kate Pierson of the B52's and Debbie Harry of Blondie, but by enlarge their sound is unique to them.

    Karen has toned down her vocals somewhat and I think that works very well for her and the band on this CD, she has a beautiful voice. On the cut Cheated Hearts she has a very sultry sexy style that really makes the song work. Brian Chase plays the drums in a style that really lends a backbone to the songs and Nick Zinner is great on keyboards and guitar All of the songs have a nice soul and passion to them and each song has its own personality to it. The music on the CD is very well done. This is a three musician band that has that kind of eclectic style that you get with three piece band but Brian Chase, Nick Zinner and Karen O's styles mesh so well together that their sound is so much bigger then that even in their live performances. It's an amazing blend instruments timing with the occasional random sound thrown in that makes the CD so interesting to listen to.

    The CD mastered and engineered in a way that really highlights the bands style.

    This is the best new release that I have come across in a while in the art-avant-punk-genre.

        The Koma and Bones crew have released a propa artist album after many remixes, etc. I'm very glad they did. Stylistically, this is breakbeats at its best. The album is beat and bass heavy and there's not a bad cut here. This is a must for fans of BT, Lee Coombs, Plump DJ's and Freq Nasty. A couple of vocal tunes (Forged Minds and Dead Beat) round out the effort. Much of the album could be played out, but it's also a nice at-home listening experience. There are cool metallic effects on High Rollin' and Powercut sounds like a truck full of bongo drums running off the road and down a steep hill. This is intended as a high compliment. Overall, a top-notch effort by and for beat-lovers.
