Few bands of the 1960s retained as much a sense of the roots of rock and roll as did Creedence Clearwater Revival. Their music is rife with country, rockabilly, and R&B influences, a combination that produced several hit singles--most of which are present on this collection. These include "I Heard It through the Grapevine," "Lodi," "Up Around the B ," "Who'll Stop the Rain," and of course "Bad Moon Rising." This is an excellent greatest-hits collection, and a perfect introduction to the music of a band that has been enduringly influential. --Genevieve Williams

CCR.......2007-06-28
An excellent greatist hits CD, I used a handful of songs to burn a CD with other related style of music.
great stuff.......2007-06-27
listening to this CD makes you realize how great john fogerty was back in the day. great songs, great sound.
Gets me going in the morning.......2007-06-27
I've been listening to this CD for 2 weeks in my car on the way to work.
Soundtrack of an era.......2007-06-15
This is an excellent compilation of CCR's tunes from the late 60s, early 70s. There's a reason why Credence tunes kept popping up in movies and commercials. It's great music and evocative of the era from which it comes. No need for me to review the individual tunes; anybody with a radio has head most of them. A must-have for any music fan.
Fogerty.......2007-06-10
Great value. If you are into the 60s' and 70s' you will love this one.

Amazon.com essential recording
Hank 101. Country 101. After 27 years in print as 24 Greatest Hits, Mercury kindly reduced it to 20 Greatest Hits. It's still excellent value, and it's still sobering to realize that Hank recorded just 66 songs during his lifetime, almost all of them essential. Here are those that serve as a working definition of country music, and as an admonition to artists who try to get too wordy or try to lose themselves in minor keys. "Your Cheatin' Heart," "Honky-Tonk Blues," "Cold, Cold Heart," "Lovesick Blues," "You Win Again," "I Can't Help It," "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry," and the rest. Fifty years later, they still have the power to move, and the power to shape modern country music. --Colin Escott
Customer Reviews:
Hank made a lot of great music!.......2006-11-10
Listening to this CD brought back a lot of memories of some great songs. I had forgotten how many songs Hank wrote. The quality of the recording is pretty decent, considering that some of the music was originally recorded a long time ago. There's quite a number of songs that have been recorded by others later, but Hank was the guy who wrote them...
HANK TELLS IT LIKE IT IS.......2006-08-29
I remember Hank. He could not write a bad song if he tried. The majority of his songs were about life, love and living. Often I saw myself in his songs.
To me, this collection is the best-of-the-best of Hank. If you like a good love song that tells a story, you will love this CD -- all 20 songs.

Classic.......2006-08-21
Anybody who likes Hank Williams will love this album. Classic Hank (tear jerker songs) Wonderful country poetry lyrics. This album has been remastered beautifully. Enjoy!
Never grows old.......2006-03-16
Hank Williams layed the foundation for all the kids that came after Him to Build.
The Best Cd Ever.......2006-03-09
I am 31 - but grew up on country music. I love all music - but especially older country music. I love Hank senior Johnny Cash etc. This CD is one of my very best purchases ever. I have a large music collection. If you enjoy his music -this is a must buy. Don't think twice. The best music is a souls essence released in song.

Asleep at the Wheel.......2007-06-08
Never received the item, had to get in touch with customer service to resend the item. Other than the delay in getting the CD the process worked well.
Gotta love Texas Swing!.......2007-05-15
Since the 70s, Ray Benson and Asleep at the Wheel has kept the spirit of Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys alive and well. This is a good representation of some of their favorites, including "Route 66", "Choo Choo Ch'Boogie" and "Take me Back to Tulsa". Because there have been quite a few personnel changes throughout the years, this collection could have used better annotation so listeners know who played what on what and when the songs were released. Otherwise, no complaints. The remastered CD sounds great and brings back a lot of memories.
Excellent selection, mixture of fun, serious, and in between.......2007-03-26
Thank goodness CDs have more room than vinyl. It's hard enough to restrict the collection to 20 songs. The collection has a nice diversity, with instrumentals, ballads, swing, and free-spirited fun. The band is in fine form throughout, with crisp playing in both studio and live numbers. Be prepared for some foot tapping and singing along.
Obviously AATW recorded many of these songs many times. Only "Route 66" came to mind as having a better version elsewhere, because the vocals here didn't have the style I prefer.
The other vocalists (mostly Ray and Chris) were right on target. Ray conveys such energy and fun in the rousing "Choo Choo Ch'Boogie" and the amusing "Smoke! Smoke! Smoke! That Cigarette" and others, when he and the band let loose. His voice is not a classically great voice, but he seems so well-suited also to "Miles and Miles of Texas" and similar, more moderate tunes. Ray must believe in the old chestnut, "Know thyself".
This is not the album if you want to feature Chris' vocals. She leads on only three.
The liner notes could have used more retrospective. If the band wants this to be considered a key collection, now would have been a good time to provide some more text about the band and the specific songs. They ended up with a relatively sparse amount, in my opinion, and even had a couple of typos in the list of songs.
Asleep at the Wheel - 20 Greatest Hits.......2006-07-20
This is super album that helps me recall their many great songs. There could be a bit more documentation with the CD since this covers 30 years of their production.
What a Ride !.......2004-08-09
I remember buying my first "Asleep at the Wheel" album in the early seventies, so this band has been giving us fine music for over thirty years ! Of course, various musicians have come and gone, but there is one constant factor that keeps this band playing great stuff--Mr. Ray Benson--his leadership, talent and ear for a great song form the backbone of "AATW".
After all this time, no single CD or even a boxed set can cover all the music this band has recorded--but for a single, "best of" disc, this one is hard to beat. Of course, "AATW" diehards will want more than this--much more--but for the casual listener, this is a marvellous CD that is never going to become boring or dated. I first played this disc in my car, driving out in the country--a perfect combination !
Texas swing is alive and well in this music. It wouldn't be hard to imagine the ghost of Bob Wills near the stage, tapping his feet and grabbing his fiddle ! At the same time, these twenty tracks really highlight the versatility of the band. For example, I think that the lovely ballad " Texas Me and You" has always been one of AATW's best songs. Of course there are jump tunes aplenty here--"Take Me Back to Tulsa", "Bump Bounce Boogie", "Route 66", "Choo Choo Ch'Boogie" ( Ray must be a Louis Jordan fan too ! ), and "Corrina Corrina" to name a few. Guests like Brooks and Dunn, Lyle Lovett and Bela Fleck add to the fun. Speaking of fun, Ray Benson really knows how to inject humour into a song too, for example, the old Tex Williams classic, "Smoke ! Smoke ! Smoke ! ( That Cigarette ). A couple of previously-unreleased songs round out a terrific CD.
Bottom line--a wonderful, one-disc retrospective of a great band that has shunned gimmicks and fads to remain true to its roots. Mr. Benson--if you ever read this--Thank You !

Classic.......2006-12-26
If you love Alabama's classics, this is the CD for you. All the popular songs are included. Alabama is a good ol' country group that will never grow old. Get this CD!
Another repackaging but..........2006-01-03
Ultimate Alabama is yet another greatest hits album from Alabama. However, it's a very good starting point for a casual Alabama fan.
This collection has had a great remastering job as well. I purchased this for my wife, and I could tell a big difference in sound quality versus older Alabama cd's.
You can almost smell the cornbread cooking!.......2005-10-30
While I agree with other reviewers that this collection is a bit concise, I still think it is a phenomenal collection. Nearly all of my favorite Alabama songs are represented, and at least I don't have to switch CDs while I'm driving to hear the other half of the collection.
These songs hold so many fond memories - Alabama is one of those great bands that has it all - beautiful harmonies, catchy riffs, and lyrics that make you proud to be (or wish that you were) Southern! I put this CD on when I miss the south - my home - and instantly, songs like "Down Home", "Born Country", "Mountain Music", and "Tennessee River" take me home. If you know Alabama, you know that no one can express the little nuances of the south quite the way they can. And when they start up with the fiddle - watch out!
This CD has been in constant rotation as a driving CD, and I bought a copy for my dad last Christmas. It may not be the definitive Alabama collection, but it's pretty dang good.
Cassie
Solid Alabama Primer.......2005-03-27
For casual country fans, "Ultimate Alabama" is a great starter. It features twenty number ones, though they had plenty more. I'll agree with another reviewer that the definitive hits package by Alabama is their double disc set, but for those of us who may not be able to or do not want to plunk down a nice hunk of change for the double set, this one will suffice. Also, if you aren't a huge fan of Alabama, but want something representative of their work in your collection, I highly recommend this disc.
It's Alabama, so just about anything they put on a disc will sound great. Personal highlights of this album include "If You're Gonna Play In Texas," "Jukebox In My Mind," and "Roll On." Everything else contained here is great.
Once again, this is an excellent introduction for the casual country fan, but hardcore Alabama fans probably already have everything on this disc.
Highly recommended.

Red Sovine 20 All Time Greatest Hits.......2007-03-08
I bought this to introduce my kids to someone I listened to as a child. They do enjoy some of the songs, for instance "Teddy Bear" and "Daddy's Girl". It brings back some nice memories for me. My dad liked listening to Red Sovine, I feel like I am back to being a little girl at times when I listen. Very good CD.
Excellent Collection.......2007-02-11
This CD is an excellent collection of Red Sovine's hits. Well worth the price for anyone interested in the genre of music.
Absolutely Wonderful.......2006-07-28
All the best Sovine on one disc. All I hoped for and more.
"Puppy's Girl".......2006-04-17
This song will always bring tears to my eyes. I grew up listing to this music with my grandfather I used to change the words in the son to puppy's girl instead of daddy's girl because that's what he would call me. I wish there were more of the singer/songwriters out like there used to be such as Red Sovine, Hank Wiliams, Charlie Pride etc. There music will never die.
Problems With the Title!.......2006-03-11
Woodrow Wilson ("Red') Sovine, from Charleston, WV had 13 chart hits from 1955-1976. (There were 2 gaps/ dry spells in that span). The only problem is that only 6 of the 13 appear on this compilation! Given those facts, it is difficult to understand how an album of his "20 Greatest Hits" can be produced. Among the actual chart tracks that appear here, this reviewer liked "I Didn't Jump the Fence" (1967) and "It'll Come Back" (1974). 2 nice tracks that failed to hit the charts are "18 Wheels Hummin' Home Sweet Home" and "Daddy's Girl". The latter featured the same child's voice as in "It'll Come Back". Red tries his hand at "Old Rivers" and "I Know Your' Married but I Love You Still" but those were done better by Walter Brennan and Bill Anderson/Jan Howard. The bottom line is that this compilation is unsatisfactory. Why not produce a straight compilation of those 13 hits? This very album contains releases from 3 record labels. How difficult can permissions be? This is the perfect example of why shoppers need to be suspicious of "Greatest Hits" or "The Best Of" titles. This reviewer actually likes Red but one has to call reviews as he sees them, not as he wishes they could be.

Best Single Disc of Tammy's Solo Hits, But Far From Complete.......2003-07-25
Tammy Wynette was the country queen of unstable domesticity. Her tear-stained voice conveyed the effects a rocky marriage has on the kids in such sagas as "D-I-V-O-R-C-E," "Bedtime Story," "I Don't Wanna Play House," and "Kids Say The Darndest Things." She'd try her best to make a relationship work, as evidenced on her signature tune "Stand By Your Man" and "Run Woman Run," but when that wasn't ultimately possible, she would resign herself to getting on with her life the best way she knew how, be it hesitantly ("Til I Can Make It On My Own," "Til I Get It Right"), regretfully ("One Of A Kind," "You And Me"), or defiantly ("Your Good Girl's Gonna Go Bad"). Tammy did record quite a few thoroughly upbeat hits, such as the rousing "Good Lovin' (Makes It Right)" and "Singing My Song," but it is the heartbreakers that Tammy did better than anyone and for which she will always be associated.
This collection - the strongest single Wynette disc available - contains twenty of her best solo singles - including all of those mentioned above - released between 1966 (her debut "Apartment # 9") and 1978 (the defiant "Womanhood"), the lone major omission from this period being her spinetingling "Another Lonely Song." Thus, none of her celebrated collaborations with George Jones (get their collection 16 Biggest Hits) or even David Houston (on "My Elusive Dreams") are found here, nor such latterday solo toe-tappers as 1979's "They Call It Making Love" and 1982's "Another Chance." Until an expanded single disc of Tammy's best comes along, the only place to get all of these recordings in one place is her box set Tears of Fire (which contains a lot of filler).

Wonderful memories.......2007-03-14
Merle has that wonderful early country music warmth when he sings. It is all about his experiences and his feelings. He doesn't rely on all the electronic back ups to high light his voice, it is just him.
20 Of His Great Songs........2007-02-08
Well This Album Has What You Need, When You Like Merle Haggard
merle haggard.......2006-03-29

Great selection of songs by the "Master".......2006-03-16
This is the best collection of songs by the "Hag" that I have in my collection. Will bring back many memories to Merle Haggard fans.
You've gotta love this CD - It's the best of Merle.......2005-11-03
I was fascinated to find out that Merle either wrote or co-wrote most of the songs on this CD. I would recommend this CD to anyone who likes the "real country" music. All you have to do is listen to this CD and you will know that Merle has lived what he writes about. You will like this CD!

Early Dolly.......2007-05-14
Great sample of Dolly when she started. Porter Wagoner not at his best but Dolly was great. Especially "Jeannie is afraid of the Dark"
A fine collection.......2006-02-05
There are a few collections of Dolly and Porter out there, but this has to be the most complete. I had reservations about intially purchasing this since it was released by "TeeVee Records", but I will admit, I was wrong. It is a fine collection of original recordings, and "TeeVee Records" should be commended for this release. There are 20 numbers here, and I'm glad to say, there is no filler material; all of the songs are among their most popular. Besides the lighter material such as "We'll Get ahead Someday" and "Better Move it on Home", their two most tragic songs about dead and dying kids are also included, with "Jeannie's Afraid of the Dark" and "Silver Sandals". Get this album, as it will quickly become part of your regular rotation.
Porter & Dolly.......2005-09-07
Porter Wagoner & Dolly Parton - 20 Greatest Hits, is one of the best I have heard, it has all great songs. Porter and Dolly are one of the finest duet couples in country music and this recording of their 20 greatest hits will attest to it.
Great Listening.......2005-08-31
I received my merchandise in timely manner, the quality was excellent. The cd perfect condition. Would order from again.
I just love Amazon.
Awesome CD.......2005-08-26
This is one of the best CD's to date that I own. The only thing missing is some of dolly and porters funny songs like the ones listed on Two of A Kind CD.

That's who sings that song.......2007-03-24
This 70's collaberation of pop hits is one of many in this series. This particular one just so happens to have some titles that are really hard to locate by themselves. You can also impress your friends with your uncanny ability of music knowledge when you rattle off the artist when you hear these songs on the radio. Bill Whitt
CD with great memories.......2005-09-06
I initially purchased this CD by accident as a speedy checkout buy. I was concerned about the quality of the CD, but was very pleased when I was able to play through "my songs" without incident.
Temptations of "Disco Duck" and "Devil Woman".......2005-06-15
I'm mystified about how this can be one of the biggest selling HAND volumes. I think "Smoke From A Distant Fire" is passable 70s shlock, but the rest looks pathetically bad. I guess it's "Disco Duck", "Devil Woman", and "Get Closer" that reels them in.
A Zero Not a 1.......2005-04-03
This is by far the worst volume in this entire series. There's nothing here even of remote intrest or talent. This CD rates a zero(A CD full of one hit losers!)I believe it's OOP. Thank god.
The hits just keep on coming!.......2001-07-11
Since there are so many good songs on "Super Hits of the '70's - Have A Nice Day Vol. 20", hitting the continuation button on your stereo is highly recommended for a number of reasons. Volume 20 of this 25 volume series spotlights the pop/Top 40 hits from 1976-'77. There are untimely classic ballads of the tear-jerker variety found in Peter McCann's "Do You Wanna Make Love" (released in the late summer of '77) and in Engelbert Humperdinck's "After The Lovin'" (released at the beginning of '77). Continuing through the ballads, Seals & Crofts feature one of their final chart hits from late summer '76 with the up close and personal "Get Closer", while Mac Davis's "Baby Don't Get Hooked On Me" predates this collection of hits by some four to five years, with a release date of 1972. A hits collection wouldn't be a hits collection without the smooth, mellow vocal stylings of Cliff Richard, whose ghoulish smash hit "Devil Woman", is featured in this wonderful array of mostly late '70's favorites. Of David Geddes' two 1975 chart hits titled "Run Joey Run" (which can be found on Vol. 15) and "The Last Game of the Season (A Blind Man In The Bleachers)", the former tune is just downright crude and horrible, while the latter track is warm and sentimental, and therefore, fits rather snuggily into this collection with ease. Boomer Castleman's "Judy Mae" is the only weak entry of the bunch, whose lyrics sound a bit too "Hatfields and McCoys"-ish to suit me. Los Angeles based trio Hot had their only hit titled "Angel In Your Arms", which shows up here, and is yet another delightful ballad. This wouldn't be a true '70's collection without at least one disco song - that being "Disco Duck (Part I)", provided in a wacky style that only Rick Dees And His Cast Of Idiots can bring to the disco table. One-hit wonders Smokie had a major hit with "Living Next Door To Alice" in early '77. "Alice" was written by Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman, both of whom went on to even bigger glory as songwriters in the late '70's/early '80's for such artists as Exile, Bonnie Tyler and others. Smokie frontman Chris Norman teamed up with Suzi Quatro on the later hit "Stumblin' In (found on Vol. 22). If you're into '50's nostalgia, there's Dean Friedman's "Ariel" to whet your appetite. If there is a best song on this CD, that honor should rightfully go to The Sanford/Townsend Band's one and only hit smash, the jazzy-bluesy "Smoke From A Distant Fire". With so many good songs to choose from in this stalwart collection of marvelous compositions, "Have A Nice Day Vol. 20" is one CD you'll definitely come back to time and again. If you're a completist, you'll need this one in your must have, must own collection. Keep in mind that each CD in this series has its own style of songs to suit different musical tastes, so it's not necessary to collect all 25 CD's. On that note, it is most wise to pick and choose your favorites as you go along. "Vol. 20" is a sure-fire winner!

Those seeking an introduction to the "Rhinestone Cowboy" would be better served with the more-focused (and less-expensive) Very Best of Glen Campbell or perhaps the two-disc Glen Campbell Collection. This collection does include Campbell's biggest and brightest, but often wanders off course to include covers, live takes, and instrumentals. Not that these make for bad listening--they're simply not essential hits, as this set's title would have you believe. On the other hand, this package has the improved sound quality and offers a sense of the man's versatility. Options, options. --Marc Greilsamer

Glen Hits the Mark..........2007-03-11
The Glen Campbell 20 Greatest Hits album was the perfect gift for my wife. She has wanted his Wichita Lineman song and such for years and we found the right deal at the right time.
I liked this album!.......2006-05-24
Glen Campbell (b. 1936) was an ever-present part of the late 60s/70s music scene with such hits as Gentle On My Mind, By The Time I Get To Phoenix, and (of course) Rhinestone Cowboy. And then, came the substance abuse, and it all just fell apart. In 2000, this album was cut, combining various great tunes from along Mr. Campbell's career.
Now, as the album includes such as Sitting On The Dock Of The Bay and He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother, you can tell that this is not really a collection of his top selling songs. Instead, this album gives a good cross-section of great Glen Campbell tunes, showing off the range of his performances. Overall, I liked this album, especially the old hits of Southern Nights, Rhinestone Cowboy, and Galveston. So, if you are a fan of that great 70s country and rock, then you will like this album. I know I did!
The Wichita Lineman comes home........2005-12-11
Silky-smooth vocals and tender guitars are the hallmark of this, the Magnum Opus of Glen Campbell's catalog. Played against a back-drop of modern rock-n-country drivel, we all are reminded why we chose Glen to write the soundtrack of our lives in the first place. Five stars for the helmet-haired minstrel from Arkansas.
Great stuff.......2005-10-09
One of my favorite cd's to listen to on the road.
I was at a street fair a couple of years ago and Witcheta Lineman came on the sound system. I had not heard it in years and I thought man this is a great song, went and bought this cd a few days later and WOW! I was blown away at how much I loved it.
Good music but where are the hits?.......2005-09-25
Cheap collection of 6 or 7 hits with other tracks that never should have appeared on a Greatest Hits set.All the songs are great but when you read 20 GREATEST HITS on the cover, you expect to hear 20 hits.
Better try another CD if you want the hits but if you're just looking for great songs by Glen Campbell, you can try this one.
