2 out of 5 stars Stick to "Blues tracks" instead.......2003-05-26

After a number of albums sounding more or less the same, I have indeed grown tired of Pat Travers. And it's not just because he's doing the same thing over and over - the quality in material have become rather weak over the years. "Blues tracks" from 1992 may be Travers first real attempt on power blues and he did it very well indeed. After that, things have gone downhill with the exception of "Blues magnet" in 1994. But albums like "Just a touch" (1993) and "Halfway to somewhere" (1995) isn't really exciting, and "Looking up" from 1996 isn't good at all (primary due to lack of good material). But die hard fans, who can't get enough of this kind of repetitive blues will perhaps find pleasure in this release.

5 out of 5 stars Pat's the real Deal.......2002-02-21

"Lookin' up " is a great collection of original blues/hard rock compositions from P.T. played with the fire and intensity that has made this guy the most underrated guitar player ever!!

"Hypnotized" is a driving blues boogie back beat laced with concise guitar leads that will knock you out.

Pat's vocal's are strong thoughout and is not afraid to inerject alittle humor into his blues, as evidenced with "Suburban Blues".

If you like hard rocking blues, it doesn't get any better...do yourself a favour and buy this CD today!!

4 out of 5 stars Travers ROCKS the World.......2000-02-05

Although it is unlike his first 5 recordings, this title is ultimate Travers. There is no axe man in this world that can match Traver's intensity. This title shows the world that Pat is still around and doing well. "Ice Queen" is a masterpiece of rock and roll, and the title track serves notice of Traver's kinghood of the axe. For those of you who don't know Pat, buy it. Give it a chance. If you don't like it, e-mail me and I'll personally buy it back from you. LONG LIVE THE KING OF GUITAR ROCK!

Album Description

Another original gangsta classic from Eiht. This is one of the best albums McEiht has ever released. If you like gangsta rap this is a album you can't pass on. The tracks and the lyrics will bring the street life of southern califonia to you, like you live it every day. This album is a must have, if you are a true McEiht fan. Spice1(Welcome back to the ghetto) and Latoya London(Struggle)are also featured on the album. 1

3 out of 5 stars Disappointing by Eiht's standards.......2004-11-08

MC Eiht's worst solo album out of his 13 solo's to date (8/05) I have all of them. Has no real great songs and the production is a little weak (done by Eiht & Poetic 1). Has a bonus dvd but it's nothing special either just Eiht talking while smokin a blunt & getting his hair braided and Eiht in the studio. One song features Spice 1 and is the best one on here. It has 4 good songs and the rest are ok. If you're a huge Eiht fan get it but other than that I wouldn't recommend it, definitely cop one of his other ones - his best 3 are "Section 8", "Death Threatz", and "Tha8t'z Gangsta".

1 out of 5 stars what happened.......2004-08-16

All of these west coast rappers such as mc eiht, spice 1, e-40 have put out great work..........to bad it was all in the mid 90's now a days these guys are whack I bought this mc eiht cd and was hoping he would get back to his roots like his classic we come strapped" BUt my god what the hell is wrong with him every song on this cd sucks................west coast rap is dead........I guess I will have to go out and by little jon........even though I hate this new age rap its better listening to than these has beens trying to put out music.......

3 out of 5 stars another banger.......2004-08-14

This album was cool...classic eiht style.

Track 5 and the track with spice were classic, mello out compton realness....the rest of the album was nice and very listenable. It had the same formula that has made eiht my favorite. Hardcore, soul wrenching lyrics with nice subliminal gangsta undertones in the beats.

I only gave it a three cuz to me it was not as good as Tha8tz Gangsta.

I am still funkin on that one.

Compton 4 Death...jeah!

5 out of 5 stars eiht just keep coming street every year.......2003-08-23

eiht has been in the rap game over 12 years now released a new cd every year and deserves props for being around still underground and just keeping his music ghetto and avoiding the bubble gum pop stuff most rappers just can't avoid features spice 1 so you know it's gonna be another hood classic.

3 out of 5 stars Another Solid Album By The Great MC Eiht.......2003-08-11

This album while not his greatest, is surely a good album. One problem i have is when they said bonus dvd, I truely thought that the dvd will have all of his classic videos, but it didnt, it was just some interviews, and mc eiht rappin in a boothe. Overall this is a tight album that no true MC Eiht fan should miss.

    Album Description

This Grammy-Nominated "best southern, country, or bluegrass gospel album" for 1997 showcases the majestic voice of gospel legend James Blackwood of The Blackwood Brothers soaring throughout the string band swing of the original Texas Swing Band, The Light Crust Doughboys.

    Customer Reviews:

    5 out of 5 stars First-ever Blackwood/Light Crust Doughboys Pairing.......2001-09-10

To my knowledge, this album is the first-ever pairing of a major gospel singer with a western swing band; and it's a match made in heaven. It received the GRAMMY Nomination for best album in its field. It's filled with soulful singing, and the rhythms and organic, authentic playing of the Light Crust Doughboy masters are the perfect couerpoint to James Blackwood's mature, earnest, powerhouse sounds. If you're into real Americana roots music, if you appreciate the pure gospel interpretations of Ralph Stanley, Bill Monroe, Johnny Cash and other legends, you won't want to be without this most influential gospel album to a generation of gospel fans. Southern sounds abound here, as do hot fiddles, tenor banjo, take-off guitar, and even a sprinkling of black gospel background singing. This is a true genius and soulmate pairing, and the music covers 100 years of American gospel folk music...an exceptional value, also, featuring about 17 or more tracks...If super-slick, techno gospel is your bag, then this is not that...If Spirit-filled, spontaneous gospel folk music is your thing, you won't find a neater, finer example...Amazon's other Blackwood/Light Crust Doughboys' music CDs are gems, too, but this one started it all, and for me, is the earthiest, rawest, most powerful of the lot...

5 out of 5 stars HEAVEN CALLED OUT, AND THE DOUGH BOYS ANSWERED.......2000-06-19

When Heaven calls out, we need to listen to the call. In this case the Light Crust Doughboys responsed. This is truly a remarkable cd. The songs are from the heart and genuine. I think that we need music like this to rekindel our spirits. Thanks so much to the Doughboys for giving us what we need, beautiful music.

5 out of 5 stars CLASSIC, HARD GOSPEL!.......2000-04-28

Wow! If ya wanna hear where white gospel has come from, there's nothing better than this vocalizing by gospel James Blackwood of The Blackwood Brothers and the bluesy, cowboy jazz of The Doughboys backing him up! James is the best, neatest gospel singer in the world in that "stand flat-footed and belt 'em out" style, and The Doughboys' and James' artistry really give this CD a folky feel......raw, plaintive, Pentecostal-style gospel, yet incredibly rich and beautiful in its textures.....fans of this release will also LOVE The Doughboys and JAMES quartet tribute album: THEY GAVE THE WORLD A SMILE.
