Impressive debut...The result is one HOT album!
Product Description
This album contains a whole handful of Aces. Ace of Spades: This isn't the kind of music being delivered today by Nashville. This is Pure Traditional Contemporary Texas Music. -> Ace of Hearts: The songwriters are phenomenal. Having written number one hit songs recorded by Patsy Cline, Trisha Yearwood, Merle Haggard and George Strait, to name only a few. -> Ace of Clubs: The musicianship is unparalleled. Country music's number one road band [George Strait's] "Ace In The Hole", and select members from "Asleep At The Wheel" collaborate to make this album truly extraordinary. -> Ace of Diamonds: Patrick's smooth, rich vocals are the real "Ace in the hole" on this album. This is one of those uncommon albums that you'll enjoy playing again and again. The complete collection of songwriters, musicians, song selections and vocal style make this a bona fide gem.

Sublimity Beyond "Words".......2007-02-01
Prime Cuts: Guys Like Me, Everything But the Words, I Think Somebody's Trying to Tell Me Something
It does not take a genius to figure out who Glenn's hero is. With a pliant tenor earmarked with a distinctive Texas drawl, it wouldn't take much to realize Glenn's sounds very much like George Strait. Glenn not only shares a sonic resemblance with the monarch of country music, but all 11 cuts of his debut come from the pens of Strait's favorite writers including Jim Lauderdale, Dean Dillon, Melba Montgomery, and Leslie Satcher. Even the tenor of Glenn's choices cover the same gamut Strait's corpus would have: from Texas two-steps to propulsive radio candy to stone cold country ballads. However, at the end of the day, such heroic emulation has work advantageously. "Everything But the Word" is a stellar hardcore country CD with paeans of a strong melodic flair gorgeously executed and impeccably produced by Glenn himself with Benny McArthur.
Just like Strait, Glenn has mined the same Jim Lauderale-terrain with the famed writer contributing a whopping five cuts. Best among the bunch is the gorgeous title track--a stately ballad of unrequited love--which was also cut by Patty Loveless. Though Glenn doesn't come close to Loveless' smoky and sultry delivery, Glen's version is still redolent with the ache and uncertainty inherent in the song's plaintive lyrics. With a more Cajun feel flourished by some rejuvenated-sounding fiddles, "All Road Leads Back to You," another Lauderdale co-write, is a delight to the ears. However, as with Strait, Glenn does not seem to be able to shake off Lauderdale's quirky vocal intonations that have been imbued so much into his songs. Hence, "The Goodbye Song," a Lauderdale and Harlan Howard composition, brims with the writer's signature melodic twists and turns.
Leaving the Lauderdale tuff, "Guys like Me," with its infectious melody that calls to mind Strait's "Blue Clear Skies," has the word "hit" stamped across it. While the album closer, "I'll Be Waiting Here Til Then," is a Western-styled mid-tempo shuffle finding co-producer Benny McArthur also in the songwriting seat. While the Curtis Wright and T. J. Knight's "I Can't Stand to Watch My Old Flame Burn" is an open invite for some good-time Texas two steps. And for those who like their country stone-cold in the Vern Gosdin traditional, "The Dust on My Shoes" is a beer-drinking broken hearted lament adorned with lots of steel and fiddles.
Among the many George Strait clones, Glenn comes the closest. But such is only a cursory observation: after repeated listening, Glenn is very much an artist that can stand his own ground. His ear for good songs is by no means second to his hero. Further, while many can claim to pattern after the multi-platinum artist, it also takes talent to sing and tackle the songs winsomely as Strait does. To this end, Glen does a splendiferous job--he sings these 11 cuts not under pretense, but he treats them as if they were lifted right out of his life. Hence, such a dazzling CD demands listening; for such sublimity is everything but mere words could ever convey.
This Should Be Album of The Year !!!.......2004-01-31
Patrick Glenn's CD is Excellent.
If you buy only one CD a year. This is the one.
This CD has some great Country Swings, Shuffles, and Two Steps. The musicians playing on this CD are the best in Texas. The Song Everything But The Words is a beautiful love Song. All women will love this song.
There are 11 songs on the CD. Songs penned by some of Nashville's greatest songwriters. The Musicians are from (2) of the best road bands in Texas, being members of The Ace In The Hole Band and Asleep At The Wheel.
When you hear Patrick Glenn's voice, it will bring to mind some resemblance to a few other Great Artists, such as Merle Haggard, Alan Jackson, George Jones and George Strait. You need to pickup a copy of this CD today. You will never regret buying this CD.
