A super budget 5 CD collection of all of Grainger's Piano music.
Every last note!
The shipping alone would be $17.00+ for the 5 individual Cds.
Englishman Martin Jones plays these as if he wrote them. He is thoroughly inside this music.
I think his best work to date.
He is joined on CD #5 by Richard Mcmahon and Phillip Martin. Where they rollick in various combos and trios on 1, 2 and 3 pianos. This is exhilerating. Especially on an truly uplifting version of Green Bushes.
The entire set is strongly idiomatic and given a clear, crisp, warm and spacious recording. FIRST CLASS sound.
There are too many highlights to single out, but the In A Nutshell Suite and Green Bushes are especially GOOD!
There is not a bad note or "vibe" on any of these CDs.
Highly recommended for Granger fans and fans of English Piano Music.

A Joyous Tribute.......2005-09-05

The Jordinaires had fun doing this tribute album, inspired by the Christmas music they recorded with Elvis Presley; they did not try to duplicate the recordings, but re-interpreted them, with their honey toned voices and fabulous harmonies. Elvis broke new ground in Christmas music, adding his flair and rock & roll beat with songs like "Santa's Back in Town." The Jordanaires performed and recorded with Elvis from 1956 through 1970 (including 28 movies), and originally recorded this in June of 1978, 10 months after Elvis' passing, when The Jordanaires consisted of Gordon Stoker, 1st tenor, Ray Walker, bass, Hoyt Hawkins, baritone, and Neal Mathews, Jr., 2nd tenor. Also included in these sessions are Jimmy "Orion" Ellis, Scotty Moore, and D.J. Fontana.

Favorites include a terrific "Blue Christmas," and the incredibly happy "Here Comes Santa Claus." For me a Christmas album is not complete without "O Holy Now," and the version on this CD is a lovely chorus arrangement. A more complete disc, with 23 tracks, is released as "Christmas to Elvis," and this 12 track CD also has been issued as "Blue Christmas." The final track is of the guys reminiscing on their days with The King. The Jordanaires are in the Country Music Hall of Fame, and have won accolades and awards too numerous to mention. They are also the ones that started the "Numbers System" for chords, which is now universally used in sheet music. Total playing time is a very short 27'24, so tracking down a copy of "Christmas to Elvis", with its 23 tracks is recommended.
