This CD has a lot of good songs on it, but it just too bland for our taste. We prefer Western music to sound as though genuine cowboys are singing it - not a fancy chorus!

For anyone who likes movie/tv music from westerns should purchase this CD. What a wonderful collection of both film and tv with great renditions of each piece. I'm about to purchase Vol. 1 to complete my collection.

5 out of 5 stars Hard to Find Great Western Themes .......2006-03-16

This CD has a number of great western themes that are not in some of the standard lists. For example it includes "The Hallejuah Trail", "Blazing Saddles", and "Giant". This CD also has what I consider the true theme of "The Comancheros". I have been disappointed with some other CDs I have purchased listing "The Comancheros" which had a song rather than this theme. Many of the tracks on this two disk CD go beyond the main theme music and are actually suites. The "Big Country" and "How the West Was Won" are just a couple of examples. It may be a little more expense than some CDs, but not bad for a two disk set. I am really happy with my purchase.

I enjoy this CD. It has many familiar melodies. Good background for reading, nice to listen while driving. It is also the only CD I've ever found that has the great theme from the movie "Giant."

This is the second collection by SilvaScreen, who are also responsible for "The Wild West: The Essential Western Film Music Collection" (see my review). And it's just as good as the first. There are themes in here that everyone will recognize ("Bonanza," "A Fistful of Dollars"), themes that may not be so familiar ("Duel in the Sun," "The Hanging Tree," the lively "Blazing Saddles"), and even themes you may not associate with Westerns at all ("The Friendly Persuasion"). And no duplication either: when this disc includes a piece from one of the same sources covered in its predecessor, it's a different piece. One great treat: the full lyrics to "Gunfight at OK Corral," which I've never heard outside the soundtrack of the movie itself. The arrangement from "Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid" includes not only the familiar song "Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head" but an overview of the music--seguing almost seamlessly into Bernstein's magnificent "The Comancheros," a rare find indeed. An expensive item, but if you love Western film music, well worth it.

5 out of 5 stars The whole project was underrated.......2003-10-23

This was Dennis Martin's first game soundtrack, and I was impressed. I enjoy all the songs, especially the vocal. A lot of people have criticized the game and its music. Well, he's no Nobuo Uematsu but he does a fantastic job for a first-timer. Even Uematsu didn't become so widely acclaimed with just the Final Fantasy I OST. I was only dissappointed when I saw that some good songs form the game were not in this CD.

Regardless, I hope there will be an Legend of Dragoon 2. Dennis Martin said in one interview that he would gladly work on LOD again. I sure hope so.

Here are some songs that were missing:
-The chanting song, usually when their talking about the Dragon Campaign. Its a great song, one of the many reasons I got this OST.
-The wingly forest song. Another wonderful song.
-The Queen fury song. I forgot how it goes but I remember it was pretty good.
-There's a creepy, sudden song in the game (one of those trademark LOD songs), its played several times (I think it is played when you beat Lenus in the Sun Chamber in Fletz and she flies away)
-The cave song. Techno, not very appealing.
-The song played in Vellweb and in a few other places.
-The main menu song and the "sleeping" song (both of these are barely memorable).
-Shirely's Temple song; its very serene.
-Two songs: the one that plays in volcano villude and the song that plays when you beat the Virage in the volcano and it sinks into the lava.

Well the album was awesome. I loved how it would go in sequence to the game. But there were two songs that were missing in the album but that's cool. Over all if your a band geek like me you'll love this soundtrack. Dennis Martin did a great job over all.

I was amost completely happy with this soundtrack. What upsets me is that there was on particular track from the game that I loved, and it was because of this track that i payed for this c.d. It was upsetting to find that this c.d. contained every song from the game except for the one that influenced me to buy it in the first place.

4 out of 5 stars High Priority for Game Music Lovers, but minorly incomplete.......2003-07-01

I think that this soundtrack deserves much recognition. Typically, I've found that VG music is mediocre, but this is an exception in my opinion. The music is equal or better to some contemporary songs. The only reason I gave it four stars is because it seems to be missing a song. I have played most of the video game and throughout there is a song played whenever the characters are in an ancient Wingly village, such as Ulara. I don't understand why the producers omitted this song. Please correct me if I'm wrong since I'd love to know where this song is (I'll correct this review). Otherwise, the CD makers put a lot of time and effort into the album.

If you like Video Game songs, get this album and you may want to also invest in the Shadow Hearts album.

This CD, like the first in the series (Volume 1) provides expert performances of some of Sousa's famous, and not so famous, compositions. It is great fun to hear the suites and other "non-march" numbers. All of these, as well as the marches, are well performed and recorded, and at a very reasonable price. Highly recommended for those interested in classic concert band music!

Ya know its a hard life when no one can understand why you want to listen to what appears to be cats on heat. "No, its Chinese opera", you cry, "its really good". Then you're just faced with looks of disbelief and confusion. They might question your sanity too. But as for me, I adore it. And I adore annoying everyone else within hearing range as well. I was introduced to Chinese opera through viewing the excellent film 'Farewell My Concubine' (right your task for today is to hunt out that dvd and buy it!). I don't think it is necessary to have purchased Chinese opera volume 1 to fully enjoy the volume presented here. The cd booklet does not contain any lyrics or translation but it does contain information concerning the opera, giving a brief storyline with each song. The operas themselves are taken from different regions of china and are fairly distinctive in style. There aren't many Dana (male) solos, which is a shame, but the exquisite female vocalization redeems that negative factor completely. These incredibly talented women (in my personal opinion) harmonize their voices with the string instruments, going up and down accordingly while maintaining perfect key. It is definitely an acquired style so I suggest listening to the samples offered above before purchasing. It sounds very strange indeed to unaccustomed ears, and at first I could only experience it in small doses. Now I play it all the time. Whether I'm cleaning, cooking or just relaxing it's a perfect compliment to my tasks and is very cheerful, except for the last song. It almost sounds like she's weeping at the beginning. So, if you're still with me after all that and have managed to experience some form of Chinese opera in the past and enjoyed it, get this cd.

This is a great introductory CD for Chinese opera. The selections on this disc are great and very interesting to say the least. However I think that you should have heard some kind of Chinese opera before you even think of buying this. Most people either love or hate Chinese opera; i've yet to encounter someone who doesn't have a strong view on it. I myself love Chinese opera, but most of my friends hate it. This CD is, to me, a jewel, although i gave it 4 stars rather than 5 because some of the tracks drag on a bit. Otherwise a wonderful CD!

Pearl's second "Golden Operetta" CD can be welcomed and enjoyed on all counts. Firstly, the selection included several rarities which collectors are unlikely to own already. I wonder how many listeners have encountered the Hartman items sung by Aksel Schiotz, or would expect to hear Lauri-Volpi singing "The Legend of Kleinsack" (incidentally is "The Tales of Hoffmann" an operetta?). Secondly, the singers to be heard include some who excelled outside the golden operetta repertoire in both opera and lieder. This is a generous selection, too: 18 items totalling 74 minutes in all.

    5 out of 5 stars Girl Scouts linguistics album.......2005-04-15

    This album is more appropriate for Cadettes and Seniors but Brownies and Juniors would also enjoy this. This album contains the first recorded Girl Scout rap, now how about that for Girl Scouting! This is one rap song I would not mind having young girls listen and dance to its beat. This is another terrific album, okay, all the albums in this series are wonderful and worth owning. A total of seven languages including Maori (Pokare Kare), Surinam (Kyrie), Belgium Congo (Ira Congo), Hebrew (Shalom Chaverim), French and German in "Music Alone Shall Live" and English in "America The Beautiful" for one, are sung in this album. The Maori song Pokare Kare is very soothing. This album starts with the Sussex Campfire song, a perfect example of singing in "rounds". Singing Along the Open Road is joyful and the Thanksgiving Canon is an everyday prayer! Beautiful album!
