Paul Stan loves making music. His deeply personal CD grabs hold of you with its infectious energy.

Product Description
It is difficult to describe what a unique musical experience the listeners of Paul Stan's self entitled debut album have in store. However, from the first chords of the opening song "Don't Know Why", to the solo fiddle in the final "The Weekend's Here", a The innovative fusion of country, folk, and rock proves captivating to all who indulge in his art.

Upon listening to Stan's CD, it becomes evident that each of his songs has a singular quality. Within the first track, "Don't Know Why", a pleasantly uncomplicated melody paired with an irresistible beat is intoxicating. Stan's lead vocals emphasize his need for a woman in his life.

This theme of companionship appears again in the second song, "Can't Live Without You". Stan's dominant baritone mingles pleasantly with female backup and generates another exceptional piece for the album.

The third track, "I'm Hurtin' Inside", decelerates the CD by presenting a mixture of guitar and vocals that beg the listener's sympathy. Stan's sincere solo suggests his pain resulting from lost love.

"Life Is Just A Gamble" instantly entices the listener with the opening and closing sounds of casino chaos. A prevailing fiddle and intimidating baritone endow Stan's fans with the message communicated in the song's title.

The listener can sense the smile on Stan's lips as he sings of enduring romance with vocalist Annie Buonocore in track six, "Lots of Love".

Track seven, "The Land Lord", changes the musical trend of the album yet again with an upbeat guitar intro and upper register vocals. The lyrics exhibit Stan's belief in the oneness of faith and music.

Demonstrating his sincerity in track eight, "What a Woman Can Do", Stan accentuates the power of a woman with a speaking introduction and memorable lyrics.

Once again following an emotional theme in his album, Stan hints of his desire for a resilient relationship in "So Much To Me".

Stan's premier album has proven to be thoroughly entertaining, and fans will be pleased to know he is currently in the process of releasing his second. With a slight change in style and collaboration with vocalist and songwriter May McSorley, he is certain to generate joy in his listeners once again.

5 out of 5 stars ChiCago, the best movie, the best soundtrack.......2003-11-10

The movie was sensational, it seems almost impossible to capture all of it in a soundtrack, but they did a wonderful job of it. Every sngle song captured the spirit of the movie, it was almost like going to a broadway musical because of the quality of this music. Catherine Zeta- Jones did a amaizing job of singing the songs "All That Jazz", "Cell Block Tango", "I cant Do it Alone",and so many more. This music is almost magical, I would recammend this soundtrack for anyone!

5 out of 5 stars The Best of Chicago.......2003-10-08

If you loved the movie Chicago I'll garenty that you'll fall in love with the soundtrack. You can never get to bored of "all that jazz" with Catherine Zelta Jones singing it, you can tell that she's the real star of the soundtrack. Don't be surprised if you run across "The cell block tango remix" and all that junk, it just didn't blend in with all the other songs, I always avoid it.

5 out of 5 stars great.......2003-08-28

the movie had great songs and great music and this soundtrack captures all of it.

3 out of 5 stars I'm sorry, but this is overrated; get the 97 Broadway record.......2003-08-09

I'm surprised by the enormous volume of glowing, 5-star reviews here. This soundtrack isn't THAT great. Maybe I'm biased. I was fortunate enough to see "Chicago" on Broadway in early 1997 (the matinee right before the cast walked over to Radio City for the Tonys, of which it won 3 or 4). That was a few months after it opened, with the original revival cast: Bebe Neuwirth as Velma, Ann Reinking as Roxie, James Naughton as Billy, Joel Grey as Amos, Marcia Lewis as Mama Morton, and D. Sabella as Mary Sunshine. Right afterwards I bought the CD and have listened to it many times since. So I can't help but be stuck on it. (I even have the 1975 Broadway recording, which I like though not as much as 1997.)

This soundtrack simply does not feature the vocal chops to be found on the Broadway recordings. The music itself is comparable, but certainly not an improvement. And the rap version of "Cell Block Tango" is a too-obvious attempt to take modern pop "stylings" (if you can call it that) into consideration when they are NOT at all relevant here. (Okay, more bias, since I despise rap.) Plus that last track with Anastacia, or whatever her name is, is awful. She tries so hard to sound like a modern R&B singer, but she can't do it. (And, again, I hate modern R&B, so yet another pre-disposed strike for me).

I liked the movie, but it (and the soundtrack) don't hold a candle to the Broadway "original revival" cast. I highly suggest getting that recording instead. You'll hear Bebe Neuwirth wail even better than Chita Rivera did, and James Naughton blows away Jerry Orbach (and certainly Richard Gere, by FAR).

And the DVD version isn't worth it. It really only has a 10-minute featurette that I'm willing to bet is on the DVD that's about to come out. And I can see that some people here have taken Richard Gere too seriously when he mentioned that Renee Z has a Billie Holiday quality to her voice. I laughed when I heard it then, and I laughed again when I see people repeat it here (as if it's their own words--yet they spell her name Billy). Not that Renee is bad (nor is Catherine ZJ), but by no means is she anywhere near the ballpark Billie Holiday is still in 45 years after her death. (And before anyone else takes Richard Gere too seriously: no, Catherine Zeta-Jones isn't really like Dusty Springfield, either).

5 out of 5 stars Razzle Dazzle Me!.......2003-06-15

Wonderful sound track! Anyone, who enjoyed the movie, will certainly relive the experience listening to the CD. I cannot wait for the DVD to be released in August.

4 out of 5 stars Klassical KISS..........2004-06-25

KISS tribute albums started cropping up more than a decade ago very quickly oversaturating this market with a multitude of cds of varying quality (Hard To Believe, KISS of Death, Spacewalk). Now comes a tribute cd that offers a fresh and unique take on old KISS classics. Classical orchestration has long been a staple of KISS' repertoire, going back to the string ensemble used for the mega-hit Beth in 1976 progressing to the orchestral leanings and gregorian style chanting of the Elder album (1981) to the symphonic version of Black Diamond on their official KISS My A** tribute album to 2003's full blown KISS Symphony project.
This quartet interprets both well known KISS tunes (Detroit Rock City, Rock and Roll All Night) and more obscure material (Goin' Blind). Some of the choices are downright offbeat, a string quartet version of the funky Ace Frehley number New York Groove...surely you jest...but what is remarkable is how well it works.
Undisputed highlights are the beautiful renditions of Hard Luck Woman, Goin' Blind and Beth. The quartet incorporates subtle new parts that compliment these well loved melodies tremendously. Love Gun and I Was Made For Lovin' You are extremely powerful renditions also, if not just a little too reminiscent of the KISS Symphony cd and dvd. Even overplayed numbers like Calling Dr.Love and Rock and Roll All Nite are given new life by this incredibly talented ensemble.
From the Rock and Roll Over album influenced cover art to the last strains of New York Groove, this unique tribute cd is a winner all the way.

5 out of 5 stars From a (classic) KISS and Classical music Fan!.......2004-04-23

EXCELLENT! I just bought this CD, and have already listened to it a half dozen times. I am a HUGE fan from the classic KISS years (1974-1979 - the years with Peter and Ace in the group).
If you are a KISS fan, and also like string quartet music, you will love this. If you are a fan of either (KISS or string quartet music), you will have a better appreciation and like for both after purchasing and hearing this CD.
These guys give the correct respect to classic KISS performance and it is especially seen in the string harmonies, and Ace's guitar solos in each song (except of course "Beth" which didn't have a solo by Ace until the "Unplugged" CD). The only down side of this are the songs that aren't on it, but hopefully that will mean a Volume 2!

GREAT CD!

The Alumni Tribute to Stan Kenton (01/01/1987) by Paul Cacia Album Review A fine first trumpeter, Paul Cacia has long had a love for the music of Stan Kenton. On this CD, he brings back 11 arrangements from Kenton's prime periods plus an eight-song medley. Among the Kenton alumni who are heard from are trumpeters Jack Sheldon and Buddy Childers, trombonists Carl Fontana and Dick Shearer, and altoist Lee Konitz. Singer Janine Cameo fills in for June Christy. In addition, some of the Kenton alumni have opportunities to reminisce briefly about the bandleader. The music is heartfelt yet creative, sounding like performances that could have been recorded by Kenton. Well worth searching for. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide Credits Trumpet: Cacia, Paul Liner Notes: Sahl, Mort Mixing: Jennings, Terry Guitar: Almeida, Laurindo Trumpet: Childers, Buddy Sax (Tenor): Cooper, Bob Composer: Kenton, Stan Sax (Alto): Konitz, Lee Trombone: Fontana, Carl Conductor: Rugolo, Pete Piano: Rugolo, Pete Conductor: Russo, Bill Arranger: Richards, Johnny Conductor: Rogers, Shorty

This compilation from Atlanta-based Jamdown Records takes its title from Rasta firebrand Anthony B's track. But young Anthony's hardcore culture chat--along with other "conscious" offerings from Stanryk (misspelled here as "Stan Rick") and Major Christie in combination with dumpling-cheeked Don Yute (essaying a hardcore, Capleton-inspired, somewhat unconvincing style)--rest uneasily amongst the CD's field of lover's rock crooners. Though the set suffers from a lack of integration and flow, it does give listeners the opportunity to hear from artists other than the usual reggae suspects found in these collections. Veteran Frankie Paul, missing in action for a while, turns up in fine form with "Call Me." Spanner Banner, another original and mysteriously neglected stylist, soars in "Go for the Good Times," as does his little brother, Richie Spice, putting his own reggae twist on "Slang a Slang." --Elena Oumano
