Customer Reviews:
Beautiful!.......2005-12-12
If you're not familiar with Cajun legend Dennis McGee's fiddle playing, this is a great place to start. He and Sady Courville had played twin fiddles together as young men, but took a decades-long hiatus to raise families and work. When they got back together in the seventies, the magic returned and this album is the result of that.
These songs are beautiful, I was most surprised by the sheer elegance with which they are played.... most of the Dennis McGee music I'd heard before had a sort of scratchy quality, but these songs are really gems. The version of the Fruge' Reel (pronounced FROO-zhay, if you care) is possibly the best recording I've ever heard anyone do and the Waltz that Finished in the Corner of the House is breathtaking.
For those of you who think Cajun music is only about accordions and drums, think again; this album is two fiddles and minimalistic guitar, and it's essential!
