About the Artist
Paul Pace is country. Eastern Kentucky is his home. Home is where Paul picked up grandpa's guitar to strum along with Haggard and Jones tunes. Home is where the Pace family gathered, out on the porch, for lazy afternoon guitar pulls.

Home is where Paul Pace stayed close to when he went to Cumberland College in Williamsburg, KY to study more about the music he loved and how to make a living at it. He soon formed a band and began writing songs. His hometown radio station hosted a talent contest where his smooth country voice singing his own songs won him first prize. Afterwards, recordings of some of those songs found their way onto the airwaves - ‘round home.

After the contest, Paul found that booking live gigs became quite a bit easier. Each gig gave him more notoriety and more confidence. And, the more popular Paul Pace became, the more he worked. He played his live show further and further from home, honing his skills and style the whole time.

He worked so much he needed a manager to help him out. He found one in Nashville, about 300 miles from home. Paul's workload increased dramatically. He worked so much that a Nashville record label heard him play and sing. He signed with Music Mill Entertainment and found himself a new home.

Now living in Nashville, Paul Pace is closer to the family of songwriters and musicians that continues to give the city its "Music City USA" reputation. He has found new energy writing and working in-studio with the good folks on Music Row. He still takes his extremely successful live show on the road to the hometowns of real country music lovers - whether its hundreds of miles away or just a few blocks down Broadway close to the home of The Grand Ole Opry.

No matter where Paul Pace calls home, he continues to prove that he is as smooth and as country as ever.

1 out of 5 stars Horrible Techno Muzak with Beautiful Singing.......2007-06-21

This is a Dr. Jeckal and Mr. Hyde CD. The singing is so incredibly beautiful but it's totally ruined with synthetic background "music". The drum machine parts are so bad it's like listening to a joke from Saturday Night Live.

5 out of 5 stars Not for the Opera purest..........2007-05-19

A doctor buddy of mine and I were working the ER one weekend and he put this CD on. Now, I love just about any kind of music EXCEPT Opera and Country music depresses me after a few songs. Now, this CD sure smacked of opera but I was not offended. In fact, the longer I listened, the more I liked it. I didn't much care for the treatment of Bizet's "Carmen" but that was the only song I didn't care for just because I loved the original classical and just didn't like this arrangement. I guess I was primed for this sound through Yanni's "Aria" from his Dare to Dream CD. Thus the blending of contemporary instrumental music with an operatic voice or voices was born.

As for the disappointed opera fan/reviewer, this IS NOT opera and it was never intended to replace or even imitate true opera. Paul Schwartz was exposed to the opera, orchestral symphonies, rock music and dance clubs that were all within walking distance from his home as a young man. He simply took the sounds that appealed to him and put them together. Thus this, his first effort, leans heavily on traditional classical music that is familiar to a great number of people. I personally found his second release, "Aria, Vol. 2: New Horizon", to be much more enjoyable. "Aria 3: Metamorphosis" was released five years after "New Horrizon" and shows a more matured sound and is highly enjoyable. Paul embarked on another venture through the "State of Grace" series during those five years which I haven't heard, yet. I love listening to all three Cd's with #2 and #3 being my favorites of the three. So if you are an opera purest, Paul Schwartz's "Aria" compositions are NOT what you are looking for. But, if you're a New Age enthusiast with even a little appreciation for classical music, then you'll probably enjoy this CD along with his other works.

5 out of 5 stars Opera meets contemporary music for sophisticated listeners.......2006-11-12

I listen to this CD over and over again. Traditional opera voices backed by modern instruments makes for distinct music that appeals to sophisticated adult ears. You don't need to be an opera fan to enjoy this beautiful, unique style of music. A true opera fan below was disappointed, but after buying Aria, I became interested in opera and added a couple of authentic aria CDs to my collection.

5 out of 5 stars buy this cd!.......2006-10-08

When i first heard this CD i hated it. i had heard about it from several people and decided to buy it. i actually bought the box set that has all three Aria cd's. As i checked this cd out, the woman ringing me up said this was the most beautiful thing she'd ever heard and told me i'd love it. i told her i was more of a metal fan. Here i was, a fan of Metallica and Danzig and Tool, buying opera!? i did like the programming on this cd. the drum beats are clean and accompany the music just right; not too loud and not too quiet. the vocals, which at first i didn't like, are really endearing and beautiful. Rebecca Luker sings many of the songs here. i enjoyed this cd more and more with each listen. I like the fact that the lyrics were translated in the booklet so i could understand the words. Bottom line: this is an excellent CD! i would recommend this to anyone. give it a few listens and let it take you. Ignore what you think you know about opera and let his music enter you and enchant you and speak to you. your heart and soul will thank you. let the vocals of Rebecca Luker wash over you and show you the true emotional range of the human voice.

5 out of 5 stars Incredible music from opera's master composers.......2006-03-04

If I could give this CD 10 stars, I would certainly do so. Five stars is not sufficient to describe this wonderful work of art. I am an opera fan but I am certainly not offended by these contemporary arrangements which brings these wonderful works to a modern audience.

The selection "Willow" from Verdi's Otello is haunting and mystical. "Un Bel Di" from Puccini's Madama Butterfly soars. Other works from Purcell's Dido and Aeneas; or Mozart's The Magic Flute; or Bizet's Carmen are arranged to be unique and evoke the context of the original opera.

Rebecca Luker's voice is superb. The electonic approach to these classics updates them, but never replaces the originals. They were not meant to replace only to offer a unique approach to classics.

1 out of 5 stars Not worth buying!.......2007-05-29

I found this recording basically worthless. It contains only very short excerpts of the song. Not enough to get into and enjoy!

1 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money.......2007-01-18

This is the worst purchase I have ever made. It is a truly dreadful piece of work.I was so disgusted with it that I threw it into the trash can.

5 out of 5 stars Perfect for "drop the needle" style tests.......2006-11-19

If you want to hear full recordings of arias, then this disc is not for you. It plays only tidbits of 99 arias. Contrary to the title, this is definitely not the only opera disc you'll ever need. You shouldn't take it seriously. This disc has next to no value for an opera neophyte. But for opera fanatics, there has never been a better test of your knowledge of operatic repertoire and singers. It's a great challenge for opera buffs. Sit down with your opera loving friends for an hour, play this disc, and try to be the first to identify the singer, composer, opera, and piece. If you're a music professor, this disc would make for an awesome pop quiz. Find out how well your students really know their opera repertoire.

1 out of 5 stars A CD with Attention Deficit Disorder.......2006-10-02

I don't know anyone who would enjoy this CD. It will drive opera fans nuts with a hundred exerpts that run about 30 seconds each, then fade out without the singers even finishing a single verse. It's more like an index of arias, or a volume of teasers that hucksters might use to sell opera CDs.

I never realized how much Bernstein's "Glitter and be gay" sounded like Delibes' "Bell Song" until I heard 35 seconds of one, followed 23 seconds of the other.

Maybe the TV show 'Jeopardy' could use this CD. 'What is "Hush little baby don't you..."??'

What a waste of beautiful voices and great music. 38 seconds of Enrico Caruso, followed by 31 seconds of Jussi Bjoerling, followed by 38 seconds of Dawn Upshaw.

My copy is going to go sailing into the wastebasket as soon as I finish this review.

1 out of 5 stars This sucks..........2006-03-31

I should only blame myself for not checking out more reviews... this is a CD filled with short, little snippets of great operas songs... and I mean SHORT, LITTLE snippets of 30 seconds or so, each. Don't buy this CD... it is a complete rip off... and that is saying ALOT since it is only $4.00... Again, my fault for not reading the reviews but I trusted that something called a "Music CD" would actually have complete songs... What else does this company offer? A "Music CD" that only has the intros or applause tracks to great songs...?

Move on to something else... Amazon has a great selection... just not this one.

4 out of 5 stars Good stuff.......2007-03-30

to listen to while lounging around the house. :) Very peaceful and soft.

5 out of 5 stars "Haunting" is a good word for it.......2004-10-21

I find my favorite tracks are Dido, Secret Tear, and Willow, though I also like Pace Pace and other tracks. While looking for the lyrics for Dido, preferably in English, I tripped over Amazon's listing and these reviews. I WILL be going out to find Aria 2 and 3 right after work, because if 2 is even better than 1, I'd better not be doing anything else of importance when I listen to it. This first album is really great stuff, and now I know to look for more by Paul Schwartz. I can't get technical about the music, as I don't have that kind of expertise, but I can agree that these tracks are generally relaxing, and some of them REALLY speak to me. It would be nice if I understood what they were SAYING, so I'll continue my search for lyrics. :-D

4 out of 5 stars Traditional meets Modern.......2004-06-21

Like every project composer Paul Schwartz takes on he bring it to life and this album is simply breathtaking! This may not be his best work ever but 'Aria' is his debut into the world of classical crossover and the material here shows great potential but with much room for improvement, and his growth as an artist has become apparent with every release thereafter. The sublime music he creates becomes more divine with each new endeavor and he's proven himself worthy of my attention time and time again, becoming a musician I deeply respect. His arrangements overtake me, filling me with the irrefutable beauty he provokes, causing my senses to soar as I close my eyes and allow the glorious sounds to seep in and release me into a momentary state of bliss.

"Secret Tear" was the first song I ever heard by Paul Schwartz and is probably my favorite on here but despite how many times I've heard "Un Bel Di" remade, aside from the operatic singing, the melody is distinctly his own with lovely Japanese strumming in the beginning and a jazzy saxophone that comes in after about 2-minutes of playing... Other highlights for me include "Willow" and "Dido", which are both positively gorgeous with lush strings and hypnotic beats (you can also hear a wonderful trance remix of the latter on DJ Tiesto's 'Summerbreeze'), and "Pamina Blue" is a hybrid of modern r&b and traditional opera with the primary vocalists being Rebecca Luker and Michelle Ivey throughout this album.

'Aria 2: New Horizon' is far better than this but fans of Paul Schwartz need this in their collection; however, good luck finding it new. I had to get mine used and it was a promotional copy that contained no booklet inside.

4 out of 5 stars Breathtakingly beautiful.......2003-01-29

I recently got into Paul Schwartz's music in the past few months, beginning with "State of Grace". I absolutely loved that album, not to mention the concept of fusing classical and pop music together. The results simply takes my breath away. I moved on to "Earthbound", Paul's latest album which is another winner in my book. I didn't realize up until recently that I had already heard Paul Schwartz's work as a composer with his album "Aria". I kinda put that cd aside and allowed for other music to take hold of me in recent months. So I dug around in my massive cd collection and found my copy of "Aria" which I had purchased used at my favorite cd store. As I am listening to "Aria" for the first time in months, I immediately recognize Paul's work on this particular album. I can't really pinpoint my finger on Paul's sound but I definitely hear it here. On "Aria", the music is more classical with operatic vocals than what I'm used to hearing on "State of Grace" and "Earthbound" which are heavily influenced by pop music as well as classical music. The vocals are provided by Rebecca Luker and Michelle Ivey as opposed to Lisbeth Scott like on "State of Grace" and "Earthbound". And of course, Paul's choice in vocalists is impeccable. Both Rebecca and Michelle have absolutely stunning vocals. Musically, "Aria" is not my favorite Paul Schwartz album but it is still very good nonetheless. I jus prefer "State of Grace" and "Earthbound". I however enjoyed "Secret Tear", "Willow" and "Habenara" a lot. I am definitely a fan of Paul Schwartz's music and look forward to hearing more from him.

5 out of 5 stars What a concept!.......2002-12-03

Maybe I've been living under a rock somewhere, but this music is all new to me and I'm blown away! Closing the gap in time and recognizing beauty in a relationship between the rhythms and sound effects of 21st century techno combined with the timeless passion of 19th century opera is an incredible concept! Equally balanced and not overpowering, it's the best of both worlds. This music will take you places if you let it! Even if you thought you'd never enjoy opera... this may change your mind!! Pace Pace mio Dio

Who would have guessed that 10 years after it became the theme tune for the 1990 Football World Cup, "Nessun Dorma" would still be doing good business? And if tenors show no sign of going out of vogue, this DG production with 19 arias from 12 great tenors will help to keep the ball rolling. Yes, the Three Tenors are here--Domingo, Pavarotti, and Carreras--but so are figures such as Fritz Wunderlich and Carlo Bergonzi. And how marvelous to see that most intelligently musical British tenor Anthony Rolfe Johnson opening the CD. But that's not all. Lurking in the digital depths is interactive CD-ROM material that lets you play the music on your PC while studying the score, make your own interpretations in MIDI format, edit the score to your own liking, and make high-quality printouts. There is extensive information on each piece, including all words and translations (you can choose English, French, German, or Spanish) and brief biographies of the performers. This all comes with a comprehensive Help file. The cover is strangely modest about the multimedia element--to get all this added value for no more than the price of a normal audio CD seems extraordinary. --Keith Clarke

This is a landmark set: the complete works of one of the most important composers of the 16th century, in performances of grace and clarity. However, you can get it for less than half of the US price by buying it at Amazon.co.uk. At GBP65.20, it works out to just over $100, or about $10 per disc--quite a bargain on a major addition to any serious early-music collection.

      Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Great performance spoiled by the sound engineers.......2006-12-13

This recording features a terrific cast of singers, all in very good voice. And Riccardo Muti conducts the forces of La Scala in a great outpouring of passion. So why only three stars? Quite simply, the recording is irreparably marred by poor sound quality. There are two problems. First, the microphones are placed way too far from the performers--and second, the recording studio is painfully deficient in natural reverberation. Increase your playback volume, and the resultant sound becomes strident, even harsh. I assure you that no amount of fiddling with your stereo's settings will substantially ameliorate this situation. The performance lacks all sense of presence. My ear simply could not adjust--and I therefore cannot recommend this otherwise fine performance.

Your best bet for "La Forza del Destino" will undoubtedly be the Levine recording, which features great sound, the only drawback being Leontyne Price in a voice that is just slightly past its prime.

All in all, a terrible shame--because Freni and Domingo are both just terrific here in this recording . . . singing somewhere out there in the distance.

5 out of 5 stars Two of the best interpretations.......2001-10-18

I bought this double-CD set to hear Ingrid Haebler's version of the Schubert Bflat sonata, since her complete Schubert set for Philips is out of print. It was definitely worth the purchase as I was completely moved beyond comprehension. Her playing has to be one of the best that I've ever heard.

This last great sonata of Schubert is known to be very difficult to interpret. Many pianists fall into the trap of playing it very gingerly and slowly. Ingrid Haebler plays this sonata with a delicate pianissimo that doesn't seem overtly sentimental. She plays this sonata with a certain regality, yet with a touch of reverie that just makes her interpretation very moving.

Her playing of the great 2nd movement is extremely powerful. Most pianists tend to play this movement as slow as possible. Ms. Haebler somehow works her magic where she plays it as a straight forward adagio, yet the sound that is created leaves a lasting impression that is unforgettable.

As for the rest of the disc, it is a splendid showcase of the finest in the Romantic piano repertoire. But there was one huge surprise for myself when I heard one of the recordings in particular.

I say this with a complete honesty, that Rafael Orozco's version of the Liszt bminor Sonata is probably the best that I personally ever heard.

The Liszt sonata is one of the most widely recorded sonatas ever. I heard over ten versions of this sonata and pianists either tend to play this sonata as a firestorm or as a poetic work. Orozco plays this sonata both ways where he blazes a trail with the octave passages, and plays the adagio passages with a certain grace. It really is a wonderful recording. The sound quality of this recording is excellent as well.

We all know Mr Bruson's fine singing and art.

This collection was a good idea in itself but is not the achievement it could have been.

First of all the singer force his voice into a dark, throaty timbre which disguises its softness and beauty. Secondly he has made no proficient effort in rendering the correct style and sings the arias as he sings Donizetti.

The result varies according to the single aria and, his technique being after all Bruson's technique (agility included), this compilation may well sound pleasing to the ear but is nevertheless a wasted opportunity.
