Album Description
'Whisperings' is a 'best of' collection of fan favorites from David Nevue's first four albums, 'The Vigil,' 'The Last Waking Moment,' 'While the Trees Sleep' and 'The Tower.'
An Excerpt from the Linear Notes...
"With a piano style somewhere between Chopin and George Winston, David Nevue brings melody and heart back to instrumental music. His neoclassical piano stylings reflect his wide musical influences - Clannad, Chopin, Pink Floyd, Rachmaninoff, Renaissance, George Winston and Rush. David's music also reflects his love of literature, quoting numerous influences from C.S. Lewis to The Bible.
David's artistry is demonstrated not only in his music, but in his thematic approach to each album. Rather than creating collections of unrelated compositions, David treats each individual work as but one chapter in a much bigger story that stirs the imagination and carries the listener to a gratifying conclusion."

Whisperings the Best.......2007-02-05
I stumbled onto David Nevue's piano work while surfing the web. This CD is a compilation of (I presume) some of the best compositions from his other CDs. Whisperings is absolutely stunning and outstanding. Unlike a lot of New Age music where you hear it once and then you move on, David's original works tend to stay with you. The melodies are really quite intricate and his playing is superb. I guess the finest compliment I could offer up for this CD is that my 16 year old daughter (who can switch between rock stations on my car radio faster than a speeding bullet) mentioned to me the other day "Hey Dad, this music is really, really nice to listen to!" Enough said.
Simply said - Excellent.......2005-10-03
I need not say anymore as the previous few reviews have done justice to it. Simply put, this is an excellent Piano player, composer. His songs are deeply touching and moving. I enjoy listening to it whenever i feel the need to relax. It is highly recommended by me.
from Solo Piano Publications.......2003-06-17
"Whisperings" is a "best of" collection of fifteen piano solos from David Nevue's first four albums (1985-2000) and two previously unreleased pieces. Nevue's playing and composing styles are pensive and deeply personal, but communicate clearly to the listener in a gentle musical language. Often thoughtful and introspective, Nevue's work tends to be positive without being sugary, and reflects the strength as well as the surrender of profound faith. Nevue occasionally polls his listeners from his website about what their favorite pieces are, and such a poll was done to help in the selection of which pieces to include in this collection (similar polls are done from time to time to help decide which pieces to release in sheet music form). The four albums that are represented are "The Tower" (1992), "While the Trees Sleep" (1995), "The Last Waking Moment" (1997), and "The Vigil" (2000). Although the pieces are not in chronological order, it is very interesting to hear how this artist has developed over the years. Most of the selections are original compositions, but a few are arrangements; those are "A Turn to Grace," which evolves into a lovely setting of "Amazing Grace," "I Wonder As I Wander" by John Jacob Niles, and the classic hymn "Be Thou My Vision." A few of my own favorites are "No More Tears," "The Vigil," "Psalm 77," "Ascending With Angels," and "The Night Season." If you are new to David Nevue's work, this is an outstanding introduction. If you have his previously released albums, this is a really nice "cream of the crop" collection.
The Best Kept Secret.......2003-04-29
I ran across David Nevue by accident while surfing the net late one evening. After listening to his free mp3 downloads, I purchased all of his CD's. This particular CD is a compilation of his greatest hits. I recommend this CD for your collection. You will not be disappointed. It is outstanding! The music is excellent. David Nevue is the best kept secret in contemporary piano music today. Buy the CD and you'll see what I mean!
Great.......2003-04-28
I've been enjoying David Nevue's music for years. I'm thrilled to see that he's now showing up on Billboard's chart.

Album Description
"The title track, OVERCOME, is a musical expression of unspeakable emotion. TAKE MY LIFE AND LET IT BE is an arrangement of the traditional hymn by Henri Malan. VARIATIONS is simply a "mood piece." TREASURE FALLS, Colorado, is where I was the moment my father passed away. BROKEN is a condition we sometimes must reach before we truly turn our circumstances over to God. AS THE DEER is an arrangement of the popular worship chorus taken from Psalm 42. THE VIGIL is an updated version of the composition of the same name from my fourth CD, "The Vigil." A MOMENT LOST is a song about regret, for things that should have been said or done but were not due to a lack of courage or conviction. WHEN THE HARD RAINS COME is about taking shelter under God's grace and mercy while waiting out the storm (see Psalm 91). PSALM 5 is an interpretation of the popular worship chorus of the same name by Bill Sprouse, Jr. WORDS LEFT UNSAID is a lament. WALKING IN SHADOW is based on Psalm 23! :4, "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me." THERE IS A REDEEMER is an arrangement of the praise song made by popular by Keith Green. THE OLD COUNTRY CHURCH was composed for my father, who loved good-time gospel music. IT IS WELL WITH MY SOUL is an arrangement of the popular hymn by Philip P. Bliss. A fitting end to a difficult journey.
My prayer is that this album will be an encouragement to those of you who feel overwhelmed by your present situation. May the music carry you from a place of pain to a place of peace."
Customer Reviews:
A worthy award-winner.......2007-05-17
"Overcome" won the "Best Instrumental Piano Album of 2005" at the Lifestyle Music Awards. There's no question that this album deserves that kind of recognition. I agree with the previous reviewer that David Nevue is among the very best of solo pianists in the "New Age" category, and there are many very good ones. What makes him stand out for me is the consistency of his pieces that are each nevertheless unique; they all have a nice melodic theme, and I think his sense of harmony and timing is outstanding. For someone who was essentially self-taught, with hardly any formal training, his composition and playing skills are all the more extraordinary.
David Nevue's melodies and playing exude a simplicity, passion and grace that are remarkable. I best enjoyed the title track, `The Vigil,' and `It is Well With My Soul,' but I can (and do) get into every song. It's a rarity when every track on a CD is enjoyable, but I can listen to this CD over and over and never get tired of any song. I own several of his CDs, and while I greatly enjoy them all, this one reflects a growth and power that deserves all the praise it has received.
Stellar album from one of the best solo pianists composing today.......2007-02-15
David Nevue is, in my opinion, one of the best solo pianists in the nebulous
category of "neo-classical" or "new age" music. His work is easily on a level
comparable to that of David Lanz, Stanton Lanier, and George Winston. One
aspect of Nevue's compositions that make them stand out against many new age
pianists is that his pieces tend to have very strong, memorable melodies. In
other words, a criticism often heard (and occasionally fairly earned) of new
age music is that it is 'elevator music' or 'sounds all alike.' David Nevue's
work does NOT sound all alike, and it is definitely not elevator music. His
pieces convey an emotional intensity that is unusual to find in this genre.
This particular album, "Overcome," is even more emotionally intense than his
previous work. According to the liner notes and his web site, Nevue composed
these pieces in the aftermath of his father's death, and an atmosphere of regret
and abiding love permeates the pieces. The standout, in my opinion, is the title
track. Intense, sad, perhaps even slightly ominous, arpeggios in the treble are
counteracted by unrelenting bass hand runs. The piece progresses to a clash of
chords, and then the main theme emerges again, quietly and this time peacefully. It
is my favorite of all of David Nevue's pieces. Other favorite tracks of mine on
this album include The Vigil, Variations, Winter Walk, and Walking in Shadow-- but
every piece on the album is strong, and it encourages repeated listening.
Lastly, for any pianist out there who may be interested, Nevue makes available for
purchase the sheet music for many of these pieces on his web site. I know that I enjoy
greatly the opportunity to learn to play music that I enjoy listening to. I can't (yet)
play "Overcome" as smoothly and with as much emotion as Nevue does, but it has been a
rewarding effort.
Great CD! I found a new favorite!.......2007-01-10
His CD reminded me of another one of my favorite pianists, George Winston. The CD is beautifully done and I love all the songs especially "Winter Walk." It makes me want to put lyrics to it. His style is original and not like the norm. I highly recommend this CD to anyone who enjoys the serenity and peacefulness of the piano with an inspirational twist.
from Solo Piano Publications.......2005-05-03
"Overcome" is David Nevue's ninth solo piano CD, and comes from the emotional journey of losing his father in the fall of 2003. Nevue emphasizes in the liner notes that the focus of the album is not sadness or sorrow, but the process of passing through it. A deeply religious man, and the son of a street preacher/evangelist known as "Brother Hallelujah" to those he preached to in Africa, Nevue includes his arrangements of five hymns and praise songs as well as ten new pieces and a new arrangement of "The Vigil," which was the title track of his 1999 CD and the piece he opens every performance with. Several of the pieces are very intense and convey the mix of emotions that comes with the death of a loved one. Some are quite dark, but the hymns bring light and a sense of healing. The last two tracks are much more upbeat and peaceful, having "overcome" the grieving process and making it through to the other side.
The title track is a very dark, powerful piece, full of deep emotion - one of Nevue's best, I think. "Winter Walk" is another favorite. The crystalline opening notes in the upper register are chilly and clear. The rest of the piece is more introspective with the leisurely pace of a long walk to think things through and to just let yourself feel. The feeling is very sad, but not without hope. "Treasure Falls" is another beauty, although it is much lighter in feel. Alternately introspective and almost dancelike, it reflects a contrast of emotions. "Broken" is again very solemn and deeply emotional, as are "A Moment Lost" and "When the Hard Rains Come." "Words Left Unsaid" is another favorite. Nevue calls it "a lament," and the sense of regret is palpable. "Walking In Shadow" is based on a verse from the 23rd Psalm, and is very dark, indeed, but a feeling of hope breaks through in passages, again contrasting some very different emotions. "The Old Country Church" was composed for Nevue's father, who loved good-time gospel music. It isn't exactly joyful, but as the song develops, it is going in that direction. Nevue's arrangements include a lovely version of "As the Deer" as well as his personal interpretations of "It Is Well With My Soul," "Take My Life and Let It Be," "There Is a Redeemer," and "Psalm 5."
As an artist, David Nevue keeps reaching new heights by setting his life experience and faith to music. His music is not complicated or flashy, but comes from deep within, letting us know him and his heart in a way that words would never do. "Overcome" is amazing in its candor and openness. Very highly recommended!

An Excerpt from the Liner Notes...
"As I look back on my music over the years, it's fascinating to see how each of my albums reflects a particular period of my life. It's almost as if my history, since the age of about 20, has been put to music. "Sweet Dreams & Starlight" is no different. This particular album, however, marks my transition into fatherhood.
What makes this album somewhat unexpected is that up until a few years ago, I wasn't even sure I wanted to be a father. When Julie and I married in 1989, we agreed to wait ten years before having kids. That allowed me to push all consideration of fatherhood to the back of my mind.
We kept to our schedule. Almost exactly ten years after our wedding, Julie became pregnant, and on March 9th of 2000, my son Nathan was brought into this world.
That was the moment everything changed...."
Customer Reviews:
from Solo Piano Publications.......2004-05-31
"Sweet Dreams and Starlight" by David Nevue is the eighth release from an artist who seems to keep getting better all the time. Nevue's albums have themes about things going on in his life at various times, and this one celebrates becoming a father after many years of not being sure if he wanted to take that step. Nevue states in the liner notes that he made this recording because he wanted to give his children an album they could call their own. I expected something very light and playful, perhaps including some lullabies; it is so much more than that. The pieces are very gentle, but the emotional depth is amazing. Many of the pieces have a strong sense of wonder, and it seems that they capture the joy of discovery as a child as well as the joy of discovering new places within yourself you didn't know existed as an adult. As a result, this really isn't a children's album at all, but an expression of humanity that anyone can relate to.
The fourteen tracks are all solo piano, and include ten original pieces and four delightful arrangements of favorite tunes. Nevue pays homage to one of his early influences, George Winston, in the title track. The opening melody is simple and heartfelt, beginning in the upper registers of the piano, much like a music box. He repeats the melody, fleshing it out, and brings in a middle section that sounds very much like a Winston passage; a reprise of the melody closes the song with a sigh. A great beginning, and one of Nevue's best pieces ever. His arrangement of "Greensleeves" is sweet and simple, with a wonderful gentle flow. "The Moment Everything Changed" is almost a lullaby - very quiet, with a sense of wonder. "Jesus Loves Me" is truly a classic children's hymn, and Nevue's theme and variations approach to it is lovely, keeping it warm and childlike. "Song For Noelle" is a charming, tender ballad for Nevue's daughter. Quiet enough to be a lullaby, the loving emotions flow through. One of the surprises is a great arrangement of The Turtles' "Happy Together." Nevue gives it a semi-classical approach that works really well. I've always loved this song, and Nevue's version made me realize how strong it is musically. In the liner notes, Nevue writes about how much he loved looking at the stars as a child and how, as he got older, he got too busy to remember to do so. One of the first words Nathan learned was "star," and his discovery of a starry sky has brought "Daddy" full-circle to loving to look up again; "Ursa Minor" has a gentle, twinkling quality that describes a night sky. My favorite track is "Taking Flight," which has a graceful, rolling left hand that gives it momentum, and a melody that suggests excitement and anticipation. I hope this will be available in sheet music soon! "Across the Velvet Sea" is kind of a dark, dreamy waltz. "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" is another theme and variations, and is totally charming in its innocence and wonder. "The Face of the Deep" is a bit more mysterious, but is tranquil and calm.
"Sweet Dreams and Starlight" is one of my favorite albums so far this year. Very highly recommended!

Album Description
While the Trees Sleep is filled with themes of winter and solitude. This haunting album is still a fan favorite.
An Excerpt from the Linear Notes... "I often think back to one very cool winter morning. Snow lay like a sheet atop the forest floor, and the air, heavy with fog and moisture, turned anything beyond a few yards into grey shadows. The forest was eerily quiet, the only sound the faint whisper of the wind. Time seemed to stop, and for a few moments I felt total peace...
Such moments have had considerable effect on me. I carry them with me wherever I go, into whatever new challenge I face. One of the reasons I compose is to reexperience that woodland peacefulness, and wander in mind and music to this 'quiet place' of renewal. It is my hope that these compositions will take you to your own personal 'quiet place'. Perhaps I will meet you there."

What a beautiful CD.......2006-11-10
This is a lovely CD, that tells a story of a overnight candlelight vigil. From beginning to end, full of hope and quiet, despair, joy, relief, lots of emotions and all told without a single word - all piano and instrumental. You can hear strains of some old gospel favorites, like Amazing Grace, in a special and new arrangement. I am a massage therapist and my clients love getting an hour long massage listening to this. Very highly recommended.
A Wise Decision ..........2005-09-10
I originally purchased "The Vigil" as a gift for my brother; however, curiosity got the better of me, so I just had to hear the CD for myself. Well, as it turned out, I liked it so much that I ended up buying one for myself.
David Nevue's music has both a soothing and spiritual effect on the listener. If I had to name a "favorite track", I'd say #7 - Chasing Shadows"; however, without hesitation, I can also say the entire album is a winner.
"Once upon a time", I studied the piano, and after hearing "The Vigil", it inspired me to want to start playing again. It's been a long time since I've felt this way. Music should be an "inspiration", and I give the artist full marks for the wonderful album he has put together here.
So make "a wise decision"! Get yourself a copy of "The Vigil" today!
Spiritual, Grounding and Uplifting.......2004-07-24
David Nevue's piano works on this CD are intensely spiritual and helped me to connect more deeply with my soul and life purpose. Thank you, David, for this incredible gift you are sharing with the listeners.
Haunting Indeed.......2003-04-29
As I was preparing to write this review, I read the words from the CD's liner notes, "hauntingly romantic." Indeed, this is a wonderful description of this CD. I was preparing to write that this CD is "hauntingly beautiful." The Vigil is an outstanding work. David Nevue's heart and soul are revealed in each and every song. You will love this CD for a "hauntingly romantic" and "hauntingly beautiful" evening. In my book it is a "must have." But, so are all of David's other CD's. Find out what you've been missing and discover what his fans already know. David's music is simply wonderful. It will take your breath away and renew your spirit.
My favorite David Nevue album........2003-04-26
From the first notes of track #1 be prepared to be drawn in for an emotional rollercoaster unlike any other! I've been a long time fan of David's since I found him ...and probably will be until he stops making music altogether. I cannot recommend the current 3 albums enough that Amazon has listed and his 3 other albums previous to The Vigil (The Tower, While The Trees Sleep, The Last Waking Moment) and 1 more after Postcards From Germany (O Come Emmanuel; A Christmas Celebration)! Get them any way you can and prepare to wear out your CD player 'til the CDs can play no more!
David, thank you for making your wonderful music available to amazon. Continue to bless the world (both Christian and non-Christian alike) for many, MANY more years! God Bless! :)

Album Description
An Excerpt from the Linear Notes...
"When my wife and I took a vacation to Germany in November of 1998, I must admit I was totally unprepared for what awaited us there. I had always imagined Germany a rather dark, industrial country. I couldn't have been more wrong. Germany is a land of wonders, filled to capacity with ancient castles and cathedrals. Everywhere we went we seemed to look back in time. There were days we felt like we were exploring a fairy-tale land; a strange, storybook world, where everything was bigger and more fantastic. Needless to say, it was an extraordinary trip, and a wonderful adventure.
After we arrived back in the States, I found my mind returning again and again to our time in Germany. Before long, I began to put some of my favorite memories to music, trying to capture, in some small way, the moments that made the biggest impact on me. That's how this album, a collection of musical 'postcards', came to be."

Postcards from Germany.......2007-01-10
I am very happy with this CD. The song i most wanted; One Night at Motzarts, is very beautiful.
Breathtaking.......2003-05-03
I "discovered" David's music on a popular music website about a year ago. I've been hooked ever since. His compositions, while simple, are absolutely elegant. "Postcards from Germany" takes me away- to alpine heights and heavenly realms. Comtemplative. Spiritual. Prayerful. Romantic.
Mozart would be proud. ;-)
The Newest Piano Sensation.......2003-04-29
If you enjoy the music of Jim Brickman, George Winston and David Lanz you will love David Nevue. He is an extraordinary artist and musician. His music is absolutely wonderful. You will not be disappointed in this CD.
Different, but breathtaking nonetheless........2003-04-26
Postcards differed from the normal David Nevue sound of his previous 4 albums, but if anything it is a change for the better. As usual there is a healthy dosage of slow, melodic tracks as well as many upbeat tracks (ex. The Amazing Accordian Man). No question "One Night At Mozart's" was the fan favorite that has gotten much radio play worldwide, but my personal favorite has to be "Big Snow In Salzburg". Every time I listen to it I get a perfect mind's eye vision of a beautiful light snowfall on a pitch dark night with the stars shining majestically overhead. This is definately a CD for any instrumental/piano lover. Get it (and Nevue's 6 other albums) AS FAST AS YOU CAN! You won't regret it.
from Solo Piano Publications.......2003-04-26
"Postcards From Germany" is a collection of fourteen solo piano pieces inspired by a trip to Germany that David Nevue and his wife took a few years ago. Most of the tracks are quietly poetic, offering musical glimpses of places and experiences encountered on the trip. There are no polkas or beer-garden romps, but rather the subtle beauty of the countryside and the explorations of castles and cathedrals. This is David Nevue's sixth CD, and his artistry grows with each new release. The title track carries a feeling of setting out on a new adventure, full of anticipation and hope. "Wonderland" is a gorgeous piece that has an easy, contented sense of peace and serenity. It evokes images of gently falling snow or a meadow full of wildflowers and the gentlest of breezes. "In God's Hands" offers a sense of surrender and a willingness to let go of control. A deeply religious man, Nevue often composes about his spiritual life. Sometimes these compositions are a bit turbulent (as on "The Vigil"), but this piece is tranquil and serene. Nevue mentions in the liner notes that he and his wife were impressed at how often both of them strongly felt the presence of God during their travels, and this comes across in several of the pieces. "The Kindness of Strangers" is a warm and happy "thank you" to a stranger who led the couple out of a mountain snowstorm and took them in for the night. "The Walled City" is probably my favorite track on this CD. It is a little bigger, moodier, and more complex. There is a mysterious feeling as well as a sense of sadness. It is an especially beautiful and evocative piece. "Castle Hunting" is lighthearted and reminds me a little of some of Robin Spielberg's compositions. It suggests the fun of exploring something new and finding delightful little surprises at every turn. "Postcards From Germany" is an excellent CD, and I recommend it very highly.

The Armenian Philharmonic is just the orchestra for this kind of thing. Hardly a world-class organization, what they lack in polish they more than make up for in sheer color and enthusiasm. There's a tendency in today's orchestras to play everything with the same, highly finished gloss. This is simply a function of their high level of proficiency. And while there's nothing at all wrong with technical perfection, the fact is that this music usually doesn't arouse the kind of dedication you notice when a musician really feels proud of having conquered a tricky piece of writing. Well, you do get that sense of pride with the Armenians, and it's probably as close as we can come to what the music sounded like in the composer's own time. --David Hurwitz

A Comment from the Artist...
"With 'O Come Emmanuel,' I've done my best to create a Christmas album a bit different than anything you've heard before. I realize there are a million Christmas CDs out there. That's one of the reasons I resisted the idea of doing a Christmas album for so long. I mean, do we really need another solo piano Christmas CD?
But one of my friends challenged me on this idea. 'Consider it an opportunity, David. Rather than thinking of it as 'just another Christmas album', think of it as music written to express the emotion of the Christmas story. Take these songs people have loved for years and wrap them around your piano style. People love your piano music, and they love Christmas music. So, put the two together. Just create a Christmas album you yourself would like.'
These words gnawed at me, and I began thinking about how I could use my music to tell the story of the birth of Jesus. And so, I started working on it, playing around with some of the popular (and more traditional) Christmas melodies and began adapting them into my personal style. Now I'm ready to pass the CD on to you. It's most definitely not your 'typical' Christmas album, but for that very reason I think you'll find it refreshing. Of all my CDs, I can easily say that 'O Come Emmanuel' is the album that I'm most proud of."

from Solo Piano Publications.......2003-06-17
Being a piano teacher who starts students on Christmas music in early-November in preparation for the winter recital, I'm not always very receptive to reviewing Christmas albums much past Thanksgiving, but David Nevue's "O Come Emmanuel" is truly exceptional. David's retelling of the Christmas story with his solo piano arrangements and interpretations is deeply personal as well as spiritual and inspirational. The fourteen selections include two originals, and all are of a religious nature. David Nevue has a wonderful way of taking a simple melody line and making it full of meaning. His elegant playing style is never overly showy, preferring a direct and honest approach, which takes a lot more skill and heart than pure showmanship takes. Nevue set out to create a Christmas album that was truly something different, and succeeded well.
The CD opens and closes with hauntingly beautiful arrangements of the title song, rich in its dark minor key moodiness. "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel" is one of the oldest Christmas carols still sung today, but in capable hands such as Nevue's the song is both ancient and contemporary, full of deep emotion that is ageless. "Away in A Manger" is a song that is often the first Christmas song learned in Sunday School, and Nevue introduces his lovely version with a one-hand melody line, emphasizing the children's view of this sweet song. He then brings in some of the other melodies (there are at least 40 melodies that go with this song!) that are often used, making each verse a little different. "Watching Their Flocks" is one of the two original pieces, and is quietly introspective, possibly suggesting the peaceful solitude of shepherds tending to their flocks late into the night - very beautiful. "Joy to the World" opens with a long, improvisational intro and then comes into the song itself at the chorus - a very interesting and effective approach. "Silent Night" is pure peacefulness. "Coventry Carol" is one of my favorites. Nevue again opens the piece with a long prelude that is mysterious and dark, and his interpretation of the piece itself is emotionally charged - a wonderful arrangement. "The Gift" is the second original piece, and it is also a real beauty in its simple honesty and gentle message. "God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen" is the most upbeat piece in the collection, with a jazzy treatment - starting out slowly with a rubato rhythm, and evolving into several variations. Great stuff! "O Come Emmanuel" is one of my favorite Christmas albums now, and I highly recommend it!
