5 out of 5 stars Upbeat album is my favorite of Barbara's.......2006-01-23

Barbara was always particularly good at sad songs but, unlike Tammy Wynette, the sadness in her song was not mirrored in her personal life, which was mostly happy. On this album, there are fewer ballads than usual, resulting in an album of mostly good-time, happy music. Furthermore, Barbara comes closer to a traditional country sound than usual here.

The saddest this album gets is the mid-tempo song, I dropped your name, about a divorce but even here, the sadness is in the past and the recovery is in progress. The only other slightly sad songs are Mirror mirror and the closing ballad, Till it's love again.

There are two covers on this album, both of upbeat songs. Big big love is a cover of a Wynn Stewart country song from the sixties. I wish that I could fall in love today (the biggest hit from this album) is a cover of an even older Harlan Howard song, which was a country hit for Ray Price song.

The album begins with the title track, which has a slightly strange metaphor for making sweet music but I love it anyway. The other songs - Blanket of love, My train of thought, My heart is the right place this time, If we fall we will fly - are all upbeat songs of the highest quality.

I never tire of hearing this album, so it's one that I'd take it (with nine other albums) on that mythical desert island trip.
